Changing Text Variables

Hello. I would like to maintain a text variable, but I cannot find where I can bring it up for edit. Are text variables not maintainable? Thank you.

It is possible that this relates to auth, and that could be auth to maintain the RKF, or CKF, or variables...this would reside with auth object S_RS_COMP.

&<your text variable>& - click on the same and a drop down will come asking you to edit or remove the same and choose edit.

0FISCPER text variable "External Characteristic Value Key" has changed

Hello!
Could somebody help and tell, why in BI7.0 version (but 3.x RRMX version) the format of the 0FISCPER text variable (also other time characteristics) has changed from 001.2007 (version 3.x) to 0/1 .0700 (version 7.0)?
I cannot understand the logic of the new Exterternal characteristic calue key. What can I do about it?

I figured out myself the reason for the problem: in the new version the fiscal year variant has to be defined in report so that the 0FISCPER would work.

Changing a variables length for text input in Captivate 6

I am using eLearning CS6 (non-subscription I believe, but no one at my office can confirm) and use a machine where all software is deployed via push from IT. The ability to check for updates has been removed from me.
I need to be able to have users enter data into the course and have it both be forwarded on to our database AND appear in later segments of the course.
I recall being able to update the TEB variable length in previous versions but can not find the option anywhere in CS6. or perhaps I'm imaging it.
I am running version 6.0.1.240 and there is no Format option in my TEB properties. I do not see alignment options, and instead see Characters as a menu above the Shadow & Reflection option.
I do know where to set the value in a text caption box. However, I seem to be limited to entering a single variable in the caption field in order for this to be option. However, there are times where we'd rather have multiple variables strung together on a single line, or a word or two of static text appearing before or after the variable.
If I want to string the user entered data from multiple variables into a single caption box there appears to be no way to change the variable's character length from 15 to a higher value.
Does anyone know of another way to work around this other than through the use of multiple caption boxes?
I've been driving myself a bit batty trying to think of a way around the 1 caption 1 variable limit...

Note: Please don't advise me to upgrade. I've already been told the office will not pay for an update to the software so quickly on the heels of our upgrade from CS 5.5 to CS6 (happened within a 6 month span).

15 characters is the default when you insert the variable into a text caption. But you can set this to anything from 1 to about 250...as long as you use the Insert Variable icon in the Properties tab > Format accordion to insert the variable. Look for the field in the dialog that allows you to specify the variable's display length.

Date format in Bex Output should be changed while using with Text Variable

I am using a Bex Query where have defined a Text Variable with replacement path. So whatever Date user enters in the selection screen variable (Input Variable) the same date appears in the report description.
For Ex: If user enters 30.04.2012 in Char Variable/Input Variable before executing the report, so once he executes the report the same date appears on report description like "ABC Analysis as on 20120430". Is also changes the report description whenever user changes the date in selection screen variable.
My requirement is......Date format should be come as 30.04.2012 (DD.MM.YYYY) instead of 20120430 (YYYYMMDD) in report description.
Guys could you please help me out to achieve the desired output.

Please check if you have selected Replace with Key in that text variable.
Instead of that select External characteristic value key.
This should help you in giving the desired output.

How to change the text variables for a standard report-writer report ?

I am trying to change the text variables for a report -writer report and transport the same so as to change the title page and the report output heading .I know the Report-Group 6Z02 and the library 6O1 to which it belongs.I tried using the change transaction GR32 after going to the area menu through FGRP . I try to change the text variables through but it throws an error "You chose a name in the reserved name range - try different name ".
I have also tried copying this report into another report and changing the new report . I was able to change and save the text variables . Now when I try to overwrite the original report 6Z02-001 with this new report , it does not allow that.
Let me know how I can change the text variables for the same

Error in creating Text Variable

Hi Gurus,
I have one requirement to create a text variable for the user & the user wants to put the description as input to the variable.
But when i am creating the variable,the variable type "characteristic Value" is by default selected and i am also unable to change the variable type to text variable.
Please any body have the solution to resolve the error.

Hi,
Just select a particular key figure and on the right side you will see its properties..
Now just besides the description of the key figure you will find a symbol for create variables, just click on that.. It will create a text variable...

How can I get an ampersand to show up when between two other letters, in a text variable?

Using Indesign CC 2014, on Windows 7.

The company name is used throughout.
Since this catalog will be re-branded for distributors at random, the company name will change all the time.
So, here's a text variable I'm defining:
The issue is that when I attempt to use an ampersand (&) between two letter with no spaces, the ampersand disappears.

Complex Sap text variable in WEBI with replacement path

My Output header(TEXT) in Bex as follows.

It's Completly working in Bex. I have used text variable and used replacement path to calculate the above texts.
WEBI : Even though the document from SAP says that the variables will work when it's derived through replacement path,
it's not working.
Question1 :
How can i achive this in webi . I saw some of the posts in SDN . They suggested to use 'USER RESPONSE' command.
Question 2 :
Assume we are using USER RESPONCE , when the current QTR = 2013Q1 . How can we derive the previous 8 Qtr 's , because
every Qtr the values are changing .

Used of Sap text variable with replacement path in Bo designer

Dear experts,
I created a univers based on a SAp BW query. In this query I used a text variable in order to get dynamic header columns.
The text variable is done by using "replacement path" that is the text is derived automatically from the user input triggered by a sap bw variable.
example :
the query contains a restricted key figure which shows net values for a selected year based on variable PYEAR.
The name of this restricted keyfigure is &ZYEAR& where ZYEAR is the text variable with replacement path from the variable PYEAR.
When generated the univers based on this query I get component &YEAR&.
When I use this unvers in WebI my result containts header with &YEAR& althougth I selected for example the year 2006.
According to several how to and white papers on SDN , it seems that text variables with replacement path are supported. So I am disapointed by this result.
Can you give me advise to get a rigth result ?

Hi Rishit,
I am trying to achieve the same as you, but it seems like text variables in restricted key figures do not work. I am using BO XI3.1 SP3 and SAP BW 7.01 SP6.
A work-around for me has been to use the "user response" function in webi to create a webi variable that holds the dynamic text title. If the user inputs Jan 2010, I change the input to a date using the "user response" and "ToDate" functions in the webi variable editor. After changing the input to a date I use the RelativeDate to extract 1 month (e.g. 25 days) from the user input. Then I have both Jan 2010 and Dec 2010 as webi variables to use as headers for my restricted key figures.
The formulas can easily become a little long, but by tweaking the user response string, you should be able to get dynamic headings by using webi functionality. But be aware that you need one webi variable for each dynamic heading if you use this method.

Text Variable With Replacement Path : supported in Webi 4.0 or Not.??

Hello to All WebI Gurus,
We are on BO 4.0
We are building WebI report on top of Bex query using the BICS connection from IDT.
Our BW query is having some Text Variable with processing type "Replacement Path".
Also its having fiscal year period in filter with user input variable.
the text variables references Fiscal year period and are used in Key figure description,
hence whatever value the input variable will capture the description of Key figure changes accordingly/dynamically.
But when I try to use it in BO it throws me an error msg saying :
Unknown error occured in SL Services
I am Aware that text variable in this fashion were not supported in BO XI3.1
Used of Sap text variable with replacement path in Bo designer
So are Text variable Supported in BO 4.0 in this fashion.
Any response will be highly appreciable.

Using a variable to change a variable

Hey Everyone,
Here's the situation. I'm creating a board game which has 3
variables, p1Move, p2Move and activePlayer.
p1Move and p2Move store the p1 and p2 location on a game
board. activePlayer stored who's turn it is at the moment.
I am loading a value in from a text file which changes the
value of move. This all works fine when i designate a player
directly:
p1Move = [insert variable name],
but i want to designate dynamically based on who's turn it
is.
Something like this:
_root["p"+activePlayer+"Move"] += Number(this.varAmount);
so that flash changes the value of p1Move (or p2Move
depending on who's turn it is) to varAmount. varAmount is the
variable being read from the textfile.
Hopefully that all makes sense. Basically i want flash to
change the variable associated with the active player only.

well as the docs say above, if you 're-declare' those
variables that it will 'replace' the _global instance, so i still
don't think i'd go that route.
now above you say the the 'activePlayer' var works 'some' of
the time - but that the var is sent from a text file. I think that
you might try to load the variable from the file under a different
name, and the declare the named var in the root, for instance in
the text file use something like:
playerActive=1;
then in the root timeline where you load use something like:
loadVariables('file.txt');
activePlayer = playerActive;
however it's likely that this wont be consistent either
because the file has to 'load' before the variable is instantiated
(available) so I'd suggest using the LoadVars class to monitor the
load and respond when it becomes available. something like:
var lv = new LoadVars();
lv.onLoad = function() {
activePlayer = this.playerActive;
lv.load('file.txt');

In the filter the value of text variable is not shown, only technical name.

Hi All,
We have some odd behavior of text variables in the filter screen of key-figures.
After entering values in the variable screen, the report is executed.
Within the report all text variables are filled, with the values entered in the variable screen.
I say all, because we use both sap standard variables &0T_FPER& as customer specific &ZFSCYR&.
When i want to change the key figures showned, i press the filter icon for key-figures (BW 3.5)
In the list shown: existing filtervalues, the textvariables of SAP standard are filled with the value entered in the variable screen. However the customer specific is shown with the technical name (&ZFSCYR&) and not the value.
Has anyone experience with this behavior or even better a solution to prevent this?

If ur custom text variable is not getting populated then you need to check out the code that u have written in there in CMOD for this and ofcourse if ur using this text variable after report execution then it will definately be in i_step 2.
So best way is to debug your code and check that using code RSRT.

How can I apply a GREP style to a text variable?

I have a question concerning GREP styles inside Paragraph styles.
1. I've created a text variable to generate a recurring title on the upper side of the page based on the main title paragraph style;
2. The recurring title is in Adobe Garamond Small Caps, all letters in lower case, and it is formatted with a paragraph style sheet in the master page;
3. I want to create a GREP style for the recurring title, according to which every time that in the recurring title appear an apostrophe or the double quotes, they are automatically lowered 2pt on the baseline
(I already created the character style sheet that lowers letters of 2pt).
What I need is the correct GREP formula to automatically apply the character style sheet to apostrophes and double quotes, in the line of text generated by the text variable...

Hi,
As I said, using Power Headers is the best way to do it.
As Power Headers treats the header as "live text", you can use a simple grep style inserted in the header para style:
… to obtain:
For the sample, I use a char style named "-2pts" with Shift -5 pts and Green color to show you the place of ' and ".
Don't forget that, even Power Headers treats the header as "live text", you only have to update Power Headers to make an update of the headers!
Even I use in another cases Tomaxxi's [JS] and it's a good way to treat the question, Jean-Claude Tremblay's solution is less interesting because the variable used is converted in text. If the variable text content changes, it's more complicated to manage the update!
