Changing the Apple ID from one to another

Hi, my wife and I have shared the same Apple ID since time (time defined as the point when Apple ID's were created :-) ), and with the advancement of the whole Apple range now, it's just not practical to share.
I've bought her a new 5 (not S), and have set her up with a new Apple ID. I have not yet set-up that new phone.
Her existing phone (which has it's own identifier (her name)) also uses my Apple ID - so when sync'd with the iMAC, I presume sync's against my ID.
I am trying to get all her personal data backed up to the new device on her new ID.  I know data can not be merged from an old ID, that is not what I'm trying to do.  As I see it, I could:
1.     Change the Apple ID in her exiting phone to the new one, and back up all the personal settings on her phone to the new iCloud/Apple ID account - how?
2.     I could change the Apple ID on our iMAC and then sync the old phone with the new apple ID on the MAC - would this work?
3.     Set up the new phone as a new iPhone, enter her new Apple ID details - but is there then a way to sync the data to that new phone (maybe from the iMAC           if we give it the same name as her old phone?
4.     Something else...?
We do not want to lose all her contacts, email preferences, phone preferences etc.  I'm not bothered if we have to sync music to it again, that we can do later, it's just all the personal data I'm trying to get across to her new Apple ID/sync record.
Suggestions please.

You would have to create a new Apple ID; however, that could create problems because anything purchased or downloaded using your old Apple ID won't be available. My advice is to stick with what you have.
