Changing the bit rate on iPod.

Alright, so I have a laptop with less memory than my 80gb iPod, so I've loaded most of my CDs onto my computer, put them on the computer, then deleted them off of iTunes and the computer. I have also made digital copies of old vinyl albums. The problem is that, somehow, quite a few of these songs ended up being over 200kbps, and the vinyl conversions are at 1411kbps. I only have 576kb left on the iPod, and I feel a little cheated. I try to select the "convert to AAC" tool under "Advanced", but it is faded, and I can't click on it. Does anyone know of any way that I can convert these files to free up tons more space without losing my precious play-counts?
Thanks a bunch.

then deleted them off of iTunes and the computer.
Bummer.
You have to convert the songs in iTunes, not on the iPod.

  • How do I change the bit rate for dls?? How times can I download one song??

I'm new to iTunes. I already downloaded 3 songs when I realized that the default bit rate is 128Kbps. I tried changing the bit rate to 192Kbps with a (Variable Bit Rate) checked.....unfortunately when I downloaded the next 2 songs the bit rate turned out to be the same.
Do I have to restart Windows or iTunes before downloading again?
And now that I have 5 songs with a lower br than I wanted... in order for me to have(download) the song at the higher bit rate...Is it possible to download one song more than once?
    Thanx.

You have no choice as to bit rate when purchasing from the iTunes Music Store. The official bit rate of all tracks there is 128 kbps (a very few have been reported to be at higher rates, but that's not a choice you can make, it's how the track was encoded by the record company). The setting in the iTunes Importing preference is for tracks you import from CDs only and has no effect on iTMS purchases.
Is it possible to download one song more than once?
No. Except in extraordinary circumstances, the iTMS allows only one download per purchase.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic before you post a question.

  • Can I tweak the bit rate for iPod video?

I am starting to produce quite a bit of iPod video for podcasting. Some of our newer pieces are up to 2 hours long and I want to cut the bit rate back so that the files aren't so large. There does not seem to be a way to tweak the m4v parameters in Final Cut Pro or Quicktime Pro. I was able to make an mp4 video file with what a I wanted. It worked in iTunes but the iPod would not recognize it. Is there anyway to tweak the bitrate when making a video for iPod?

Is there anyway to tweak the bitrate when making a video for iPod?To exercise the greatest amount of control, use MPEG Streamclip (free). The MPEG-4 iPod presets can be user modified to limit data rates as desired.
I was able to make an mp4 video file with what a I wanted. It worked in iTunes but the iPod would not recognize it.The "Movie to MPEG-4" exports are limited to the 320 x 240 "Baseline" profile (up to v1.3).
There does not seem to be a way to tweak the m4v parameters in Final Cut Pro or Quicktime Pro.The "Movie to iPod" export is adaptively pre-set for maximum "LC" (640 x 480) and "Baseline" (320 x 240) data rates. There are no manual adjustments.

  • How can  edit the Bit Rate on my music?

I have downloaded some lectures that are below 128 Bit Rate, so they are not being uploaded onto iTunes Match.
I was told to change the Bit Rate to 128, and that would solve the problem.
    How do I do that????

Thank you Airsculpture- I have gone into the menu bar on iTunes, but I can'rt seem to find the location where to choose or select a highter Biz Rate. Can you give me a little more guidance please?
Limnos- I understand it will not improve the quality. I just need to increase the Biz Rate so it is accepted on iTunes Match. Any Biz rate lower than 128, will not be accepted.

  • How can I reduce the bit rate of songs in my Music Library to enable me to

At the moment i can only fit about 1300 songs on my iphone and also have used up half the space on my 120gb Classic with 7000 songs which is a lot less than what i was told would fit on. so............
How can I reduce the bit rate of songs in my Music Library to enable me to fit more songs onto my iPhone or iPod Classic.. and what is the minimum rate that i should stick to in order to retain good sound quality.

    For existing tracks, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
For CDs you import in the future, change the Import settings in the iTunes -> General preferences.
As to what will be a good bit rate, that's going to be up to you and what quality you find acceptable, but many people find that 128 kbps AAC is the optimum balance between small file size and quality.

  • What are the Bit Rates of the Music Store and Podcasts?

What is the bit rate quality and format of a song downloaded in the Music Store? And podcasts? Are they perfect, Apple Lossless quality or what...?

This might be true, but you won't experience any improvement in sound quality. Here's some info on bit rates:
This was originally posted by the incredible Sparky the wUnderdog
"As a general principle, you can fit more CDs on your iPod if you encode at lower bitrates (making smaller files), but at the cost of audio quality. Lossless promises to capture all the data on the original CD (thus preserving quality) but coded so the file takes half the space. MP3 and AAC (an implementation of variable bit rate MP4) both eliminate some of the information on the CD in order to compress the digital recording into ever smaller files--the lower the bitrate, the smaller the file, but smaller files mean more information lost and consequent poorer sound quality.
iTunes's MP3 encoder is so-so; the LAME encoder is better at preserving sound fidelity to the original. AAC files ripped in iTunes certainly sound better than its MP3s, with audio quality close to the best LAME MP3s at higher bitrates. With the type of music I listen to most often, sound quality declines substantially as bitrates fall below 256kbps, but LAME or AAC @ 256kbps sounds pretty darned good, and at 320kbps LAME alt-preset-insane is amazingly faithful to the original. However many users claim that with the music they listen to they can't hear the difference between 192 or even 128 kbps files and the original CD source, so they naturally choose higher compression rates to fit more "songs" on their iPods.
CDs take approximately 10MB per minute of music; Apple lossless takes 5MB/minute; LAME insane takes 2.5MB/min; AAC or MP3 at 256kbps take 2MB/min; and iTunes Store files (AAC@128kbps) take 1MB/min. At these rates, a 20GB iPod (really 18.6GB) can hold anywhere from 30 hours to over 300 hours of music. (iPod marketers express this potential playback capacity as "songs," figuring 4 minutes per song--thus 300 hours at 128kbps = 4500 "songs.") You will need to listen to samples ripped with different bitrates and codecs to determine the optimum tradeoff point for you between quality & quantity. It's worth taking some time to do this at the start as it sure beats reripping everything in your collection 2 or 3 times to get it right later.
So far as convenience goes, nothing beats iTunes's one-step process. To change bitrate as you import from CD, go to the iTunes menu > Edit > Preferences, select the Importing tab, choose AAC or MP3 encoder in the "import using" selection box, then choose "Custom" in the "setting" box, and the window permitting bitrate selection will pop up. If you choose iTunes MP3 encoder, at least use VBR (variable bit rate) to maximize the sound quality. (VBR increases sample size as data complexity increases.)
If you would prefer LAME MP3s, fear not, for the easy-to-use CDex ripping software is a free download and requires only one simple extra step to get the files into iTunes for transfer to your iPod. Now if AAC sound quality is comparable to LAME MP3, you might wonder why you should even consider LAME: Because of portability to other devices. At present, hardly anything but iPods can read AACs or Apple Lossless, but almost everything reads MP3s. So if you plan to burn CDs of your compressed files for playback on your home or car CD player (for instance), it would be wise to choose MP3.
One other consideration specific to the iPod: It has a 32MB cache. If you choose a compression rate that results in large files (i.e. lossless), then the cache won't hold very much 'music' and the hard drive will have to spin up frequently to fill it, and that will shorten your battery life somewhat."

  • How can I change the frame rate mode?

Adobe Premiere Pro exports my videos with a variable frame rate. Because of this long videos are asynchronous. How can i change the frame rate mode? So Adobe Premie Pro exports my videos with a CONSTANT frame rate? The original video  has a constant frame rate...

Sorry my mistakes. I am from Germany.. so...I mean with asynchronous that the video file and the sound file are displaced. In the beginning of the Video it's normal, but if the videos is very long it goes VERY "asynchronous"

  • Is it possible to raise the bit rate of songs higher than 256 on iTunes? If not what should i use or do to raise the bit rate of songs?

Is it possible to raise the bit rate of songs higher than 256 on iTunes? If not what should i use or do to raise the bit rate of songs?

Songs you rip from CD can have their bitrate increased to a maximum of 320Kbps from the iTunes preferences; alternatively, the default encoder can be changed to a lossless one. Songs from other sources have a fixed maximum bitrate.

  • How to determine the bit rate with button over video subtitles?

I have a project where I've got several questions that come up on the screen. The DVD is subtitled in 14 languages, so depending on the language chosen, it will show the question in the proper language along with navigation buttons to go to the next question or track.
The problem is this: I added several new questions that each have a black only video that runs about 1min with 14 subtitle tracks made from photoshop psds. When I try to build, it fails saying "bit rate too high." When I removed all but 5 of the subtitle tracks, then it would build. I came up with a workaround, but then hit the limit of 99 tracks, menus or stories on a DVD.
I went back and tried combining all 3 questions in to one slide, but now with more information on the psd, it will only allow 3 subtitle tracks before it reaches the max bit rate.
How does it determine the bit rate? What can I do to lower the rate? I tried compressing the video at the lowest bitrate, but it didn't' help. I tried changing the psds to much smaller jpg files, but it didn't change anything. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
    Thanks.

    CS,
Almost all DVD SP Tracks should first be completely constructed in a Sequence in FCP, the markers placed there, and then everything encoded into a single Mpeg 2 clip with matching length audio (even if just low bit rate AC3 silent audio, as the case may be, because all Mpeg 2 clips in the Title domain should be accompanied by an audio stream), and then imported into DVD SP.
Lay your subtitles under that and see what happens.
    Take care,

i have an apple id on my ipod & another for my macbook & iphone.  how do i change the id for my ipod to match the one for my macbook & iphone?

    To change the ID:
For iMessage, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive (Receive At in iOS 5), tap the ID sign out, sign back in using the other ID.
For FaceTime, do the same thing in Settings>Facetime.
For Purchasing, do this in Settings>iTunes & App Stores (Settings>Store in iOS 5).
For iCloud, you'll have to delete the account, create a new account with the other ID, and migrate your data to the new account.  Before deleting the account, if you have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll or you will lose them.  To do this, open the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.  Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On iPod.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.

I changed the password to my ipod but it isn't working and I don't want to restore it. Is there a way of getting rid of the pass word or un-disabling my device?????

Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup.
    iOS: How to back up
Then restore via iTunes. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • How can I change the frame rate of a project in imovie 10?

My problem is: I made a gopro movie with a frame rate of 50 fps. I imported it to imovie. So far so good.
Scrubbing over the clip i found one single frame which looked amazing. So I draged some seconds of that clip into the timeline (the project if you will).
The goal was to make a freeze frame out of this "spezial" frame.
Unfortunately I could not find this frame in the timeline any more - it's gone.
I think imovie dropped half of the frames to fit the clip into the projekt, which I assume is using 24-25fps.
The only solution I found is to decrease the speed of the clip to let's say 50%.
But is there a better way?
Can I change the frame rate of the projekt somehow? I think it was possible in imovie 11.
    many thanks
    Rainer
    (from austria)

iMovie 10 won't share at 50 fps and so for 25 fps output probably drops every other frame.  This is different from Imovie 9 which could handle 50 fps.  However, if you do 50% speed it will use all the available frames so that is indeed the way to find the frame you want.  After you have made a freeze frame I think you can switch the clip back to normal speed.  I am not aware of a better way in iMovie 10  By the way there is also no facility to export a still of a frame in iMovie.
As a GoPro user I think FCP 10.1 would be the best choice.
    Geoff.

  • How can I get my installed plugins to show up in Logic after ive installed the plugin discs? ive tried changing the bit mode. it STILL doesn't work.???

I tried installing a program but when i open logic and scan the audio units, it doesnt come up. Even if i change the bit mode, it still doesnt show up. I even tried restarting my machine..Can anyone help me or give me some ideas.
i just wanna get this plugin to work.

Have you confirmed that the plug-in installed to one of the locations where Logic might find it? Most plug-ins go to /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components. Some (rarely) install to ~/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components (where "~" is your user folder). Look in both locations and see if the plug-in is actually there.
When installing plug-ins, if you are offered options as to what format to install, be sure to include Audio Units. Logic will not see other formats like VST, RTAS, AAX, TDM, etc. If you use other software that recognizes those formats, it's fine to install them too, just be sure you don't deselect Audio Units.
Finally, if you're sure the plug-in is installed to the right place, open the Audio Units Manager in Logic and check to see if the plug-in passed validation. Go to the main menu and choose Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio Units Manager. Check to see if your plug-in is listed there. If there's not a check mark next to it in the "Logic" column, that means it failed validation. If so, the "Compatibilty" column will tell you why. Keep in mind that if the AU is 32-bit, you have to launch Logic in 32-bit mode to see it here. Likewise, 64-bit plug-ins show up in the manager in 64-bit mode.
