Changing the Default Event Time Length?

Hello,
Is there anyway to change the default event length from 1hr? Nearly everything I schedule is 30min long and it's a pain to always have to change that.

npatelaz,
I don't think that it is possible, even using Terminal. If you want to change your workflow, "all day" events can easily be created in the Day/Week view, but as you stated the Month view poses a problem.
Calendar Help says:
To make:
An event that lasts all day:
In Day or Week view, double-click in the “All-day” section at the top of the calendar.
An existing event last all day:
In Day, Week, or Month view, double-click the event, click the date, then select “All-day.”
A multiday event:
In Week view, drag from the start time to the end time. You can drag across multiple days.In Day or Month view, create an event. Then, enter the start and end dates and times.
An all-day event into a multiday event:
In Week view, drag the all-day event across multiple days.

• Changing the default event time to all-day in Month View?

I updated to Mavericks today, and when I went to add an event to my Calendar, I discovered that all-day was not the default time.  In Mountain Lion, when going to add an event in Month View, it was automatically set to all-day, which is perfect because all of my events are all-day events.  Now, it's being set to 9:00 to 10:00, and I have to check the box to make it all-day.  I know that this isn't much work, but when I'm adding dozens of events it starts to get a little annoying.
Calendar 7.0, OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Changing the default Repeat Times list in iCal Alarms?

Has anyone ever figured out a way to change the default "repeat times" list on iCal Alarms?

I'd love to add a few to iCal's current offerings, like "4 hours" "8 hours" etc.

Dear Rich
Welcome to Apple Forums,
I'm not sure about either of these but it used to be that you could rook the finder into opening in which ever view you wanted by double clicking on your hard drive icon on your desk top changing it to the view you want and then resizing it slightly. If you then close it and reopen it it should open to list view again. Again i'm not sure that this still works but its better than nothing. Also there is a free program called Cocktail that might do it for you( i have an old version and there for the newer version might have it when might doesn't). I hope one of these two ideas works out for you.

• Changing the default meeting time in Outlook 2010 to 50 minutes

Is there a way to change the default time for a meeting to 50 minutes.  I can go to Calendar, View, View Settings, Other Settings, and change to 15, 30 or 60 minutes.  What about 50?  Any ideas or suggestion?  Thanks

Hi,
I think you have to choose another time scale on your calendar. Because Outlooks tries to match the timescale for new meeting requests. It is only possible to choose 30min or 60 min.
In order to change the timescale you will find a description here:

• Change the default event duration from 1 hour to 1/2 hour

In iCal, the default event is supposed to last for 1 hour. I want to change the default to 30 minutes. I know I can make the change event by event (which is cumbersome). I cannot find any configuration page to set the default event duration. Is there one?
(This seeming reality has been bothering me for years; but I'm considering migrating from Entourage to iCal/Address Book/Mail and some of what I feel are inefficiencies in iCal are blocking me from doing so.)

Typically any such defaults are configured outside of Logic via a utility that came with your Audio Interface.
Example: if you have a Motu Audio interface you use the Motu Audio Setup Utility to set the default Stereo inputs and outputs... which are then used by Logic via Coreaudio.
Not knowing what Audio Interface you are using (or mixer..) I would suggest you read the documentation that came with it.. and see how to configure it to what you need.
Note: Some cheap and/or badly supported interfaces/mixers simply don't provide a utility to enable/change default settings... in which case you are stuck with what they set as the defaults themselves.

• How can I change the default start time of an activity in iCal (Mavericks)?

My current default time in iCal is 9.00 AM. Don't know why. In iCal on my MBP it is 10.00 AM. Can I change that to 11.00 AM? I am not an early riser...

If the program does not open the last folder you visited you most likely have the option enabled to autoload Bridge on Startup.  Either disable that option  in PS or shut Bridge down before you shut off the computer.

If you always want it to start on a specific folder you can leave it on autoload, go to folder you want it to start on then exit Bridge.  It should load this each time in future.  Many of us discourage the autoload option as it can lead to other problems as well.

• Can I change the default wait time to redial after a busy signal?

If I fax using my external USB modem, and I get a busy signal, the system waits something like three minutes before redialing. Is there a way I can change that to 1 minute? I can't find the preference for that anywhere I've looked, but I'm betting it exists somewhere.
Thanks in advance,
rb

I'm not sure this will work, but you can try it. ..
Create a character style that does nothing but apply the contextual alternates attribute (check the box under OpenType Features inthe style defintion dialog). Then add a GREP style to your paragraph style to match the "a" and apply the character style you just created.

• Can I change the default transition in FCE?

Is this possible? Or is it at least possible to change the default cross dissolve length ?

Right-click on a transition in the Timeline and select Duration from the pop-up menu. Enter the desired duration.
Alternatively, you can double-click a transition in the Timeline or the Browser to load it into the Viewer window and change the duration to the desired number of frames in the upper left-hand Duration window of the Viewer. After making the change, drag the transition to where you need it on the Timeline.

I'm sorry to tell that we can't change the default snooze time in Outlook. We can just type a different time in it or select from the drop down.

I don'th believe that it's possible - I think your only choices are whether or not to have the system sounds enabled.

• Changing the deafult reminder time on Outlook All Day Events without turning off reminders

Hi All,
This has been something that has bugged me for years but now even more so I (and my colleagues) have work phones linked with exchange. I am tired of being woken up at 6am the day before an all day event has been set in my calendar.
I have multiple people update my calendar and the reminder time is not always cleared on an all day event. I (and others) want to keep a default reminder time set as it is a useful addition to the majority of calendar appointments, but for the life of me I
can't fathom out how to change the default 18 hour reminder time that is set on All Day events.
I have never understood why MS have made this reminder time set to eighteen hours, which means that the reminder always goes off at 6am, before the majority of office people wake.
We currently use Outlook 2007, but will probably update to 2010 in the foreseeable future.
If this can't be set in Outlook (?!?!?) can it be forced as an administrative policy?
ChrisChris

Hi Chris,
This has been asked for before, but there are no current plans to change the default of "18 hours" or to allow a means to modify the value.
As a workaround, you can use code in a macro, script, COM Add-in, etc. to reset the Reminder time to something more adequate to your needs.
DISCLAIMER: The code is provided only as a courtesy to our customers. It is not supported in any way by Microsoft.
Dim oApp As Outlook.Application
Dim calFolder As Outlook.Folder
Dim items As Outlook.items
Dim appt As Outlook.AppointmentItem
Dim i As Integer
Set oApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Set calFolder = oApp.Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar)
Set items = calFolder.items
For i = items.Count To 1 Step -1
If items.Item(i).Class = Outlook.olAppointment Then
Set appt = items.Item(i)
If appt.AllDayEvent = True Then
If appt.ReminderMinutesBeforeStart = 1080 Then  '1080 = 18 hours X 60 minutes
appt.ReminderMinutesBeforeStart = 60  '60 minutes
appt.Save
End If
End If
End If
Set items = Nothing
Set calFolder = Nothing
Set appt = Nothing
Set oApp = Nothing
I have emailed the Outlook Feature Requests alias on this. This is monitored directly by the
Outlook Product team. Additionally, you can call in and open a support incident regarding this issue and we can investigate this further.
Hope that helps!

• How can I change the default alarm for events in ical?

How to change default alarm

I've been curious about this issue as well. I think it would be nice if there were more options to select the default alarm... from within the preferences themselves. Even being able to choose how many days before vs. always figuring out how many minutes are in multiple days.
While someone has found a method for changing the sound to accompany messages, users are still not able to select the type. I prefer message only (no sound), although I supposed this is the same as the current default minus any sound. I tried blank and "" entries for 'Default alarm sound' in the .plist file with no success (blank reverts back to Basso, and "" just didn't work).
I wonder if there are some other items that could be listed in the .plist file to offer more choices such as "Default alarm type". Is there a way to figure out what key variables/values iCal uses for? Someone must have figured out that iCal will look in the .plist file for a 'default sound value'. I'm guessing that there are more of these values that could be set by the user.
A similar question - it would be nice to be able to set the default alarm time for all-day events. I suppose it doesn't matter all that much since 11:45pm probably means I'll just get the message the next morning; I still guess I'd prefer something like 8am though.
Forgive the novel...
