Changing the format of a DVD file

Hi Guys and Dolls,
I wasn't really sure were to post this but i know you alot are always a helpfull bunch. I am currently in the process of building a home media server (im not saying this to show off by the way) and am copying my DVD collection on to Hard Drive using mac the ripper however the film sizes are rather large.i was wondering if there is any way of convering the vdeo_TS files into something like a quicktime format. I don't need the menus or special features as i will have those on the original discs so i just need the main feature. thanks for any help you can offer
jimbo

Don't do it.
The DVD uses MPEG-2, which doesn't convert well, and offers pretty-darn-good compression, so you won't do much better without sacrificing quality. Finally, it will take your computer 10-30 hours to compress a full length feature movie into a "better" format than MPEG-2.
Then, if you commit all of that time and energy to recompressing and you don't like the result, or you find it only saves you 10-25% of the disks space, where will you be?
Just splurge on a 400GB hard drive and thank me later.

my mac disk is full and i cant transfer files from Mac to USB. saying the format is not good, how can i change the format and what happened to the files i have on USB?

Once something similar happened to me. The external drives I had set up for FCP to use for some reason were not mounted, and FCP put all its render files on the main drive and I couldn't find them anywhere.
Go to applications, and control-click (and hold down) on your FCP icon; you should get a pop up menu that says "show package contents". Select that, select the "contents" folder, then the "mac OS" folder. See if your quicktime file is in there, or if you've got render files in the "render" folder or audio render files in the "audio render" folder that don't belong there.
That's where FCP sticks stuff when your documents FCP project folders are not available or when external drives you've selected aren't available.

  • Is there a way to change the image numbers in a file in Aperture?

Is there a way to change the image numbers in a file in Aperture? We shoot with two photographers and so the img numbers are not in order but I would like to have the photos in chronological order on the disc when I give it to them. Does anyone know how to do this? I have them all in order ready to go in Aperture but when I move them to the disc to be burned they default back to the img number order. Thanks for your help!

What do you mean by "image number"? The file names like "IMG_7822.CR2" or "IMG_7822.jpg"?
You can create custom names with appended numbers, when you export your image files to be saved on a disk.
Sort your images by date in the browser, select them, then use the command "File > Export > Version" to write the files to the disk. Set the name format to "Custem Name with Index" or "Custom Name with Counter" to create numbered names in your current sort order.

  • How can I use single hard drive for both Mac OS and Windows without changing the formats and reformatting?

I have a windows PC and a Macbook Air and a 1TB external hard drive. They said in order to transfer large files into the hard drive you have to change the format of your hard drive (which would be from MS-DOS to Mac Os extended) so how can I use my external hard drive on my windows PC without reformatting its files? Please heeeelp

Natively Windows can read and write to NTFS, FAT32, and exFAT while the Mac can read and write to FAT32, exFAT, and MacOS Extended.
Option 1: You can purchase driver software for Windows to allow it to read and write Mac's MacOS Extended or you can purchase a driver to allow the Mac to read and write to NTFS.
Option 2: you can format the hard drive for exFAT and use it with both Windows and the Mac without purchasing any special drivers. (Obviously the 4GB file size limit is why you don't want to use FAT32)

  • Change default format in "save as" file format window

I month ago I asked the following question...
"How do I change the file format order that is listed in the "save as" file format window? Instead of having "Photoshop" listed as the default file, I'd like to have JPEG at the top, then TIFF, PSD, etc. I have to constantly scroll down the list to find JPEG."
Recently while selecting JPEG in the "save as" format window, I accidently selected "Large Document Format" while holding down either "control", "option", "apple key", or "shift", or a combination of keys. Now the default format in the format window is "Large Document Format" (ext.PSB). I've changed the default from "Photoshop" which is still listed at the top, to "Large Document Format". I'd like to change the default to "JPEG" but I cannot replicate the correct key(s) to change the default format in the window.

    Hello TomGroup...
I did not receive a satisfactory answer to the question. Yes, you can go
into the Scripts but that is for experts and it is too much work.

    Any updates on this issue?
I have a similar situation in that no matter what I'm working on, when I
click "Save As' then the default format option is always .tiff    If I save
as jpg and then go onto my next file, the default is still tiff again when I
try to save  No matter what I try, tiff is also my default selection.  It's
just one of those things that takes a mere 5 seconds to click the dropdown
and select .jpg, but 5 seconds times a couple hundred files per day...it
    adds up.

  • Do I have to change the format of my canon video footage in order to import

the format of some video footage that I recorded is currently .MOD and some are .MOI (I have no clue what that means, but that's what it says.. and I'm assuming it needs to be converted into another file-type)
my macbook pro can't recognize this format, so is there anyway I can change the format of these videos so I can edit it in imovie?
[I have a MacBook Pro and the footage is from a Canon FS100]
    Thank you!

The MOD files are MPEG-2 video formats recorded on tapeless media. Use MPEG Streamclip to convert them to Apple Intermediate Codec for editing in iMovie. The MOI files do not contain video; they are basically information files associated with the video files. MPEG Streamclip is free however you will also need to get the Apple MPEG2 Playback Component ($20 from the apple store) if you don't already have it on your MBP.

  • HT4007 I Just updated Apeture to 3.3.2  Now there are some photos that I receive a message..."Unsupported Image Format"  Are there lost?  can I retrieve them?  can I change the format?  Help...?!?

I just updates Apeture to version 3.3.2 after installing Mountain Lion.  There are some photos in Apeture that now say, "Umsupported Image Format".  Are these lost?  Can I retrieve them...how?  Can I change the format so that I can see them again?  Help?!?

Are these images "Raw" images? What is the make of your camera?
Check the version of the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update that is installed.  The version of the raw support is shown in the About panel: from the main menu bar:
         Aperture > About Aperture
Download the latest Raw Update from here:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.14
If you have the latest raw support installed, but Aperture does not recognize the format, try to register the raw support for your camera with the launch services db, see this post by Alan Roseman:
Re: Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish
But also read the following post, that explain how this is supposed to work and to correct the typo in the command
In short: Quit Aperture, open the terminal, paste the  follwing text in (all in one single line) and hit return; then reboot the system.
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -R /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library

  • How NOT to change the format

I have some AVI files and I want simply to edit out a section of one and save it, no change of format. When I try to save it, QuickTime pops up a window for me to choose between "Save as a self-contained movie, Estimated size 661.2MB" or "Save as a reference movie, Estimated size 1.7MB". I choose the first but it automatically changes the format to MOV. I don't want to change the format. Can't QuickTime save a file as AVI? I know I can export a MOV to AVI but the quality suffers quite a lot. The original AVI is excellent quality so I want to keep it like that.

You are completely mistaken about AVI. It is fully supported by Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992
Virtually every movie created on all Windows system is AVI. You also misunderstood what I said. I did not mention any degradation in quality from converting AVI to MOV. They are equal. I am talking about needing to keep the original format. I want to keep the AVI format. I only mentioned that using QuickTime Player to convert MOV to AVI results in reduced quality. I need to share the final movie with Windows users who need AVI format as it works perfectly with subtitle files of the most common type (filename.srt) while MOV files often fail to pick up SRT subtitles.
Now that we have all that made clear, let's solve the problem. What I want is simply an answer to my question. Can you folks drop the Microsoft Versus Apple battle for a while and just try to provide solutions?

  • TS1506 This is not an acceptable solution. Apple please fix this issue. I can't ask my customers to change the format of an email. Seriously?

Is it coming through as a winmail.dat file ? If it is then you could try one of the winmail.dat apps from the store and see if that works with it.
Or is it coming through as a PDF but isn't downloading, opening or displaying correctly ? If so then is just the one PDF, all PDFs, from one sender ? Have you tried closing the Mail app via the taskbar and seeing if the PDF opens/displays when you re-open the app ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

  • How to change the format of a picture?

I've saved a picture that I got from Twitter. The end of the picture file says ".jpg-large".
This file will not open in Preview, nor in iPhoto which are the two apps where I knew how to change the format.
Could anybody help me out in another method of changing this picture format?
    Thank you

Rename it to end in .jpg.

  • Changing the format?

How do you change the format of your pictures in iPhoto from jpeg to anything else? Do I have to open them up in another program to do that, and if so, what program? Is there something I can download? Thanks!

    Emma*:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can change the format by using the File->Export->File Export menu option. There you can select on of several formats, resize the file if desired and then export to a folder on the Desktop.

  • I changed the format of my external HD to GUID so I could boot form the disc. It now takes about 3 min. for the computer to find the disc, so it will not boot form the disc even tho a bootable system (snow lep) is on the disc.

I changed the format of an external HD to GUID so I could boot from it. I have 2 part. on the disc: time mach. and snow lep. It now takes my iMAc about 3 min. to find the discs, negating any boot.? Whats my problem?

I'm going to follow up, in hopes that my misfortunes may someday benefit others and prevent them from having the same issues...
It turned out that the sole problem was the burner not caring for the first blank DVD+R DL's I'd gotten for it. (Fuji, by the way.)
Although I'm definitely relieved, I can't believe I went through that much heartache...and it turned out to be something so stupid!
    Well, it's now working like a champ...so I'm happy!
Hope you all had a great Christmas.

  • To change the format of the list

    Hi Guys ,
I have schduled a batchjob its a report program runs every week and after completion of the job it sends mail to the concerned guy  with the details of the report .Its an Standard report everything is configured by using SM36 transaction .
Everything is fine but we have to change the format of the report to CSV could any one can guide me how can we change the format .
    Thanks in advance,
    Sathish.M

CSV means a text file, where the columns are separated by a character ";".
The best way to change a list to CSV is to create an internal table in the ABAP, with the structure of the required CSV.
You have to fill in this internal table.
Because you are running the program in background, you can't download the file, the best would be to store the file on the server in a separated directory.

  • Can you change the format when converting pdf to excel?

example.  I'm trying to export a PDF file to excel.  However, the PDF file isn't in a table/spreadsheet format so when it exports to excel, I can't sort at all.  It doesn't convert into any sortable columns.  Is there a way to change the format on the convert?  Or is that an edit in excel?

    Hi, jsking.
I'm sorry for the issues you're having. Without seeing your file, it will be difficult to diagnosis your issue. Can you send us a copy of your PDF file via this form and we can take a look? In the form, include a link to this forum conversation, so we have this additional context.
You may be able to do some post-editing in Excel to copy the data into sortable columns. OR, you may want to try first exporting the PDF to Word and then copying/pasting the data from Word into Excel - it's possible that may give you a better result.
But with a little more information, we may be able to help you more.
    Dave
