Changing the name on IPhone 3GS

I have given my husband my iphone 3GS and he needs to change the name. the 'name' function is not there under 'about' and the new itunes layout doesn't allow him to right click on the device name. Can anyone help?

What you should do is erase the 3GS. That way, you can plug it into iTunes, name it what you want & your wife can sync whatever content she wants to the phone. You have two choices to erase: 1. On the phone itself, Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings or 2. Plug it into iTunes & restore as a "new" device. I'd suggest making sure your wife has an Apple ID that is a verifiable email address first. You'll need that to take advantage of iMessage, FaceTime, etc. You can share iTunes content, but you both need separate ID's for the rest.

How do I change the 'names' of my iPhones on my MacBook Pro's iTunes?

I just upgraded my iPhone 4S to a 5, and shifted my 4S to replace my wife's 3GS, which I'll sell.
The problem is that the names of the phones and telephone numbers on iTunes are the old names/numbers. I know that I could just live with it but if there's a simple way to rename them I'd like to do it.
Any suggestions?

If you mean the name that appears in the iTunes side bar - select the name of the device with the mouse - you shuld get a highlight and a text ][ and then you can change the name.

Let me give more details..We have 3 iPods and 2 iPhone4....I recently purchased the iPhone4 and when we connected it..It was already reading my wife's iPhone4..We went to the Apple Store at the Grove today and was told to de-authorize the system and connect my iPhone4 back and I should be able to change the name.
Nothing happened..Right now, I clicked on RESTORE settings...and it is uploading a new iPhone update.

Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...sign back in with the ID you want to use.
Note: Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to originally obtain them. They cannot be updated using any other Apple ID other than the one they were originally obtained with.

The issue consist in by some way the iTunes or iPhone change the name of the artist to others, it looks like that is check marked some option to auto-recognize the name of the song and artist. Here is my scenario. I just got a phone, it had a bad wifi antenna and a funny pixel, so Apple replaced it (thank you). Since I had only had it one day, I had only done one back up in itunes. So, I decided to start from scratch and delete the backup. When I plugged in my phone for the first time, it went through the process of first time "iphone meets itunes" set up. I notice now, I just have a name of "iphone." I thought before I actually had my name "my name's iphone." Is there any particular reason that didn't happen again? How do I modify the name of "iphone" to my name?

I changed it in the itunes left column. Does that name not carry over to iTunes-Preferences-Devices??

You can also send a remote wipe to the phone via iCloud. There was also the option to send you an email if the phone is located when you were in Find My iPhone. Report it to law enforcement, change the passwords on all accounts that were on the device. Did you have a passcode on it?
