Changing the pitch of an audio file

Hi all, how can I change the pitch (make it sound like its gone up a key). I can see that I can seem to select the audio and go into the sample editor and do factory > time and pitch editor and change it but since its destructive I don't know whether to do it as I'm still using the sample elsewhere in the track. Will it alter the others too?

if it's only going up a tone, why not try the pitch shift plug in?
OK, if its vocals it'll sound cack, but for most other things in a mix it works.
Or buy melodyne uno.
Convert it into a new region b4 you do anything to though if you use time machine.

  • How do I change the length of an audio file?

How do I change the length of an audio file without changing the actual recording?
I want to aligne start and end points to the rest of my project.

Well, yes and no. I have tried the Bounce track in place function, but it did not do what I was after. However, today I got an idea that solved the problem. I copied the region I had punched in several times. Then I used the Bounce track in place function. This made a track that was just as long as all the other tracks. Finally I silenced the audio "clips" that I had used to make the region longer. I have now 24 tracks to transfer to the Alesis HD 24 that starts, and ends, at the exact same point. This will suit the Alesis software just fine, I think.
    Thanks for the tips.

  • How to change the pitch of a sound file

This is not an iTunes problem, but
I don't know where else to go and it is iTunes-mp3 related.
    I play keyboards and sometimes
the tune I wish to accompany playing in iTunes is just a bit
off. I can't change my keyboard settings for that.
Is there any small application (from Apple or another company) that could enable
me to change the pitch (*fractions of a semi-tone*)
of an mp3-4 file and save it back in a format
that can be read by iTunes without changing the speed of the sound of course.
There use to be an amazing program in Classic: SoundEdit. It did anything and easy!
Why didn't they make it for OSX....
    Thanks a bunch
    iMac, Leopard, iTunes 9, E-MU 61 Keyboard
(There is software that came with the keyboard but it's just
too darn complicated, I don't get any of it). I prefer using
little programs like Easy Beat (which can only change the pitch by whole semi-tones unfortunately, I
    need smaller steps than that).

Oh boy, there's a freeware beats per minute analyzer that is really part of a DJ package for Macs that includes this. I don't have a link to it but maybe that would give you a lead on a web search.

  • Change the volume of one audio file played in icm script

    Hello,
Using the play external script element to simply play queue music (recorded as 10 minutes long), is there a way to adjust the volume of the audio being played within the script without having to re-record that specific audio file?
95% of our static audio is recorded fine and plays at the appropriate volume, but we have new queue music coming in all the time (with sales info, annoncements, etc.) that is different in volume from time to time and it would be nice to have an adjustment filter for playing that specific audio file and then adjust back to the default (if needed) afterward.
This would be much easier than asking our vendor to re-record over and over again until tested right.
Anything possible with this? Or would there be something on CVP that could control volume for one specific audio file?
    Thanks for any info,
    Greg

Even if CVP could control the volume on individual files (It can't, as far as I know), you're better off normalizing the file in Audacity as David mentioned. Having some server modify things on the fly is just wasting resources, why not adjust the file? Audacity is free and open source.
We record our voice prompts using a Unity Connections Voicemail box... Not the cleanest solution, but it works well for us as we have small global contact centers all in different regions, with different voices for each center. I make a habit of running all of my files through Audacity before putting them on media servers - otherwise I would potentially have prompts recorded at different times having different volumes depending on how "the voice" and Unity were doing that day, not to mention all the pops and clicks from using a sub-optimal recording solution.  Normalize and the Envelope Tool are my best friends.

  • Importing audio voice file changes the pitch in Logic Express

I noticed something weird with my Logic Express 7. When I import an audio voice file. The pitch seems to be lower in Logic when I play the file than compared to the original file. Does anyone know what could be causing the pitch change? I though I was going crazy, but something is definitely change the pitch when I import an audio file.

    Hi,
The only thing I can think of right off is that the original is a higher sampling rate file than what you have set for LE.

  • HOW DO I CHANGE THE PITCH OF A MP3 TRACK IN GARAGE BAND 10.0.02

HOW DO I CHANGE THE PITCH OF A MP3 TRACK IN GARAGE BAND 10.0.02 , i could do it in old version looking at the you tube video, now the screen looks different cant find how to do it. Can some one put up a video please
    Thanks

    There are three ways:
Use an AuPitch filter on the track
Or turn the audio region into a loop
Enable "Follow Tempo and Pitch" for the track and use the transposition slider (that does not always work reliably)
    To add an AuPitch filter:
Enable the audio Units in the GarageBand Preferences and then open the Smart Controls.
To add the AuPitch filter audio unit, click the Audio Unit button and enlarge the Smart Controls pane by dragging the dividing line to the Track Area upwards.
click the Audio Units Brick and add the AuPitch filter:
Type the pitch change in cents (100 cents per half note step) into the text field below the pitch control.
To create a loop from the audio file:
Select the region in the track and use the command "File: Add region to Loop library".
Set the current key and tempo, name the loop, and save the loop.
Now add it from the loop browser to a new track and delete your old track. The search field in the Loop browser will help you to find the loop quickly.
You will be able to transpose the sample like a regular loo by changing the project key.

  • How do I change the pitch of all tracks in a session?

I have 6-7 midi tracks in the key of "C". Now, I want to sing on this (in an audio file) with my pitch G, which means I have to change the pitch of all the tracks to G.  How do I do this? Thanks!

    Transpose either +7 or -5.

  • Any way to change speed of a clip without changing the pitch?

When I do the command-J and lower the speed, the pitch lowers which I do not want.

    I don't think that's possible.
Think about it: when you slow down sound you are also slowing down the frequency of sound, making it sound lower and slower. The only way to slow it down and not change the pitch would be to take little sections of it and keep them apart from each other over a long period of time. However, this would not sound like your original audio file.
I don't know what you are looking for. Can you imagine a way in your head to slow down the audio, but not make it change pitch?
The only thing I can think of would be to slow it down normally, then try to correct the pitch using one of FCE's audio filters.

  • "An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types"

Getting ready for a deployment of version 9.2 of iTunes for 1400+ users.
Getting this error when a 'normal' user goes into Edit/Preferences of iTunes and makes no changes.
"An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types. you do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I've elevated privileges of the C:\program files\itunes directory for this user to Full Control however problem remains.
Tried to modify the folder to remove 'read-only', as found this suggestion on here, but read-only keeps applying itself.
User has full rights to the location of the media as specified under Advanced Tab. If I tick 'Set as default media player' and remove tick and then click OK I do not get the error. From what I've read it's affected older versions of iTunes also.
Doe anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I had a similar issue. Turned out that - somehow - one of the directories or files in my iTunes music folder had gotten set to read only. Fixing it was easy.
    Go to Edit/Preferences.
    Choose the Advanced tab
in the General subtab select the contents of the box labeled "iTunes Music folder location"
    Click Start, choose Run
    Paste the location
Press the button to move up one level
Right-click the music folder, choose Properties
If this is your problem, the read-only box will be a solid color or checked. Set it to empty and choose the default "apply to folder and all subfolders and files." This will set everything in there readable, which after I did so I stopped getting the error.

  • Upgraded to 10.3.1.55, now can't set iT as default player,"An error occurred when updating the default player for audio files types.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." How to fix?

After I upgraded iTunes, iTunes doesn't recognize CD in the drive, apparently isn't the default player.  It won't let me set iTunes as the default player, I get the error message "An error occurred when updating the default player for audio files types."  I tried Whitesides' remedy (changing Read Only status in folder in Windows) but it didn't solve the problem.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
    J

Oddly enough. I think I just solved it. It looks like, for some reason, my computer has about 8 different "iTunes music" folders, and I've been saving my music to the wrong one. Neat. Music now imports and plays as it should. Copying things over is going to be so fun tonight!

  • How do we change the name of a sound file once it is in the session?

how do we change the name of a sound file once it is in the session?
    Thanks
    Steve z

The only way that you can rename the audio file from within Audition is to do a Save As from the Waveform view AFAIAA. You can rename clips by clicking in the name box at the top of the Properties window or by right clicking on the clip and selecting Rename from the drop down menu (this will automatically open the Properties window if it isn't already open).

  • Changing the speed of the movie without changing the pitch

    Hi,
Is there a way to create a movie and change the speed of the movie without changing the pitch of the audio??
    Thanks in advance.

I think, this is a two-(many?)-step process, because 'speeding up' is allways pitching audio...
    so... my workflow would be:
    * extract audio from clip
    * speed up video
    * export audio (Quicktime/Expert/aiff
    * use any audio app which allows pitching (Amazing Slowdowner, Audacity...), change speed/pich
    * import back into iM....
probably a little tricky to find the right, sync settings... but you asked for a very .. 'advanced' effect ...

  • Changing the order for printing portfolio files in adobe acrobat 9 pro

Does anyone know how to change the order for printing pdf files that are part of a portfolio in adobe acrobat 9 pro?  The documentation seems to say that it prints files alphabetically by filename rather than by the internal sort order.  This won't work for me. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • How can I change the pitch of a track?

In Garageband 10.03, how can I change the pitch of a track?
It seems that I somehow mistakenly changed the pitch of a guitar track I had recorded, so that al the notes in the track sound like they're about an octave too high.
I don't know how I did that, and how to make the pitch slider appear so that I can try to lower the pitch.
I saw three Youtube videos that show how to change a track's pitch by using the pitch slider, but none of them explain how to make the pitch slider appear.
The pitch slider is supposed to appear in the lower, left corner of my window, but it doesn't appear in my window.  Instead the lower, left corner of my window says things like, Region, Notes, Time Quantize, Strength and Transpose.

There's much to learn in Garageband!
If you want a comprehensive introduction to the new GarageBand, have a look at Edgar Rothermich's book:
Edgar's "GarageBand 10.0 How it Works"  explains it very well with many screenshots. You can buy it as iBook from the Book store, as PDF,  or as printed book from Amazon, Only, this version of the manual has been written for GarageBand 10.0.1, Some features have changed slightly since then.

  • How do I get Garageband '08 to stop changing the pitches on tracks?

I just recently updated Garageband to '08. Since then, I have started having problems with songs that I started recording prior to the update. Garageband is changing the pitches/notes for both Live instruments and MIDI instruments. I have tried changing the Key of the song on the master track. This doesn't always work. What if my song changes keys?
I have tried deselecting "Follow Tempo and Pitch", but it just selects it again on its own. In addition, that is only an option on the Live instrument tracks. What about the MIDI tracks? In short, how do I get it to stop doing this? I am considering moving back to the previous version of Garageband.

I really wish the Apple team would fix this.  It's one of those nagging things that was overlooked, I would imagine, and no one but musicians that perform would notice.
Anyway, my workaround is this.  I just put a really long silent space at the end of the song giving me time to stop it before it loops.
