Changing the primary account

I'm certain this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the info I think I need.
I've just bought a used MacBook Pro (first used Mac I've ever bought).  It's a mid-2012 13" model running OSX 10.8.5
Somewhat annoyingly it's still showing the original owner as the main account/user and I'd like to change it to show my details (as my other and prior MacBooks do).
Is this possible and, if so, how is it done?
And while I'm on, I've reverted to using Mail rather than Entourage and, unlike Entourage, it's giving me grief over the fonts used in composing a message. Despite me selecting Arial 12pt as the default font, any message I send arrives in something that looks like Courier - even though on screen and before hitting send, it looks to be in Arial.  Anyone got any bright ideas?

  • TS4020 I don't want to delete the secondary iCloud account? How do I change the primary account without deleting the old primary account!?

We want to change the Primary iCloud account on one of the businesses computers and all it tells us is to delete it. We don't want to because we're afraid this will also delete all the meetings and other things saved on this account. Can anyone tell us how to simply change and not delete. Or can you let us know if you do lose anything if you delete an iCloud account??
    Thanks

Never mind, I figured it out!

  • My iPhone 5S prompts me for my password to an Apple ID email that no longer exists as an account.  How do I change my Apple ID address without having to change the primary address to a non-existent email account?

I cannot sign into icloud on my phone because the Apple ID is an email account that has been deactivated and deleted.  How can I change my Apple ID without having to change the primary email address to this non-existent account? If I did so, I wouldn't be able to access the account to receive the verification email. Please help!

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You should not need to verify the old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

the ssystem is recent, 10.7.0 or a bit higher.

she has a back up on icloud but i cannot switch the account from the computer anywhere.
You need at least 10.7.2, check that you do have that, 10.7 is insufficient. Post back with your OSX version.

  • How do i use WGM or dcsl to change the primary groups of users, defined by another group?

i've got a ton of users, whose primary group is "current student". they all belong to the other group "year 13"
they've left school, so i thought it would be easy to do a search of users with GID equal to or containing the GID for "year 13" (in this case 1121) and then change their primary group to "left school"
except that doesn't work. i can only search for them in WGM by primary group, it seems. therefore i cannot do any batch operations on a secondary group.
so. how do i do this? is there a way of scripting dcsl to find users by 'other group' and then change the primary group attribute?
i'm going to need to be doing a lot of this (changing the other gropus of a school full of students). bit stumped.
    help!

ok. for some reason neitehr root nor my account (which is part of the open directory admin group) can make changes using dscl.
when addingremoving users from groups, remember that teh UUID has to be added/removed too
    this is getting there:
    old=year11
    new=year12
    for item in `dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/ read /Groups/$old GroupMembership | cut -d: -f2`
    do
    echo $item
    UUID=`dsmemberutil getuuid -U $item`
    case "$UUID"
              in
"There is no uuid for user $item")
echo "user $item need personal attention"
                        dscl -u diradmin -P 'somepassword'  /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 append /Groups/$new GroupMembership $item
                        dscl -u diradmin -P 'somepassword'  /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 append /Groups/$new GroupMembers $UUID
                        if [ "`dsmemberutil checkmembership -U $item -G $new`" == "user is a member of the group" ]  ; then
                        echo "$item added to $new"
                        dscl -u diradmin -P 'somepassword'  /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 delete /Groups/$old GroupMembership $item
                        dscl -u diradmin -P 'somepassword'  /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 delete /Groups/$old GroupMembers $UUID
                                  if [ "`dsmemberutil checkmembership -U $item -G $old`" == "user is a member of the group" ]  ; then
echo "removal of $item from $old failed"
                                  else
echo "removal of $item from $old succeded"
                                  fi
else echo "append of $item to $new failed"

  • I have 2 iCloud accounts. Can I delete one account so I can make use of additional space I purchased for the secondary account? Also iPhoto seems to only connect to the primary account? How do I send files to the secondary account?

I have 2 iCloud accounts. Can I delete one account so I can make use of additional space I purchased for the secondary account? Also iPhoto seems to only connect to the primary account? How do I send files to the secondary account?

Both accounts are completely independent from each other. In order to use the space that you have purchased for your secondary account, you must change it to become your primary account. Yes, as you said, services like photo stream only work with the primary account. Unfortunately, there is no comfortable way to just transfer data from one account to another one, but you can do it via a third party application e.g. via Dropbox: e.g. for photos: photos stored with your current primary account > manual transfer to dropbox > after you made your secondary account to the primary account,  transfer the photos back to your new primary account etc.

  • Can't use Find My Friends on iPhone due to Apple ID not being verified. Can't do this as I can't access my .mac email any longer and I can not change the primary e-mail address for my Apple ID!

Can't use Find My Friends on iPhone due to Apple ID not being verified.
Can't do this as I can't access my .mac email any longer and I can not change the primary e-mail address for my Apple ID!
    So my options are:
Create a new Apple ID, use that and lose all the apps I've purhcased with it (a fairly substantial amount)
Somehow Migrate these purchases over to a new Apple ID
Apple let me change the primary ID for the account
Anyone else ran into this before?
I've tried accessing the mail through a mail application using the correct server information, and trying both the old 6 character password and the one I had to change it too after they updated the security guidelines - neither work.
Help would be greatly appreciated as I can see more services down the line not working without the address being verified!

  • How to change the primary right in iCloud?

I set up two emails in iCloud account on Macbook Pro. How can I change the Primary right between these emails? Please help with thanks.

Do you mean selecting the address which by default appears as the 'From' address when composing a message? Mail Preferences>Composing and set 'Send new messages from' to the required address.
If that isn't what you mean can you please explain in detail what you are trying to do.

I have clicked on a link received in my e/mai which has put a download  into my download stack which appears to be a Facebook login page to someone who is not me but has my e/mail as the primary account, should I be concerned?

I would do the following just to be safe.

    I would trash the download.

I want to change the primary email of my apple id but it keeps saying that email is unavailable.is there anyway I can make it available because
    I don't know why it's unavailable.please help

You can check if you are using it on any of your iTunes account by logging into each account via this page and seeing it it shows as an alternate or rescue email address on them : https://appleid.apple.com
But there isn't a page that you can go to and see if, or on which account, a particular email address is used.

    Dear Readers,
As Sunqan wrote, above, we here in the Community can not restore account access, and neither can anyone here change or update any Skype accountholder's account details or information.  Please contact Skype Customer Service directly.
Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
Skype is aware of continued website problems, however if you start with temporarily enabling website scripts and pop-up dialogue boxes, that may help.  If you experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented.
Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.
Last and not least, when you reach the last step of the process, remember to click on the "Start Chat" link when you are provided the choice of visiting the Community or starting an instant message chat with a customer service agent.
    Topic now closed.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • I can find no way to change the primary number online

I want to switch one of my two phone numbers to primary with the other - can't find anyway to do it online

Hello keshiab! I see that you've commented on a thread dedicated to changing the primary line on a family plan, with a comment that indicates you would like to know how to reach use. You can reach out to Verizon Wireless' Customer Care team by calling 800-922-0204 between 6am and 11pm daily. Also, please be advised that Verizon Wireless discontinued the price plans that required the designation of a primary line. We now have Account Level Pricing, so there is no need to change the position of any number on those plans.

  • HT201356 I can't change the primary email associated with my ipod touch

my apple account has my primary address but I cannot change the primary address associated with my ipod touch. Any suggestions?

Without knowing what haooens wehn yu try:
I no longer have an email address that was also my Apple ID. Can I still use the email address as my Apple ID?
Apple recommends you change your Apple ID to your current, working email address. This will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
How do I change my Apple ID Name or personal information?
You can change your Apple ID Name at My Apple ID. Click on Manage your Apple ID and sign in with your Apple ID name and password. Click Edit and enter the new information, then click Save Changes. Changes take effect immediately. You can also use My Apple ID to change your personal information, such as your mailing address or email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.

  • How to change the primary outgoing mail server in iphone

I am trying to change the primary outgoing mail server from Yahoo to another mail which is my internet provider. I do not know the steps to complete this in my iphone thanks

If you have more than one email account on your phone, you can change the default account under Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendar>Default Account. Note that this setting does not appear unless you have more than one account on your phone. So, you'll need to add the email account from your ISP under Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Add New Account if you have not already done so.

  • Making a New Account the Primary Account

Hi, I experienced problems with one user account and switched everything over to a new user account labeled "apple". I want to rename "apple" and make it the primary account instead of another user account. is this possible? Thanks!

Hi Alex, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
Yes. First may I note that for security reasons you want to be in a standard account while surfing the internet. Assuming that is not the case, here is how to fix that and maintain your settings.
If the other account is not an admin account, make it into admin level.
Now change your surfing account into standard.
When surfing in an admin account it is too easy to get nasties into your system. There are very few now but who knows about tomorrow.
The concern re renaming accounts is loosing ability to find stuff. I would do a bit of research before doing that. Applications help. A Forum Search. etc.
Hope that's helpful. Post Back. Good Luck, JP
