Changing the Site URL - Sharepoint 2013

Hello,
Currently have a site named https://commissioningtoolkit.sharepoint.com but im wanting to change it to
https://toolkits.sharepoint.com. Ive looked on this forum and there are answers stating that Alternative Access Mapping is the way to do it. However, when I go to find this option it is nowhere to be seen
and there are no ways (which i can find) to enable this function.
Any help would be much appreciated

You cannot do this with SharePoint Online. The original Tenant name is used for the hostname within sharepoint.com. Because you do not own the domain (sharepoint.com), you would not be able to set up any sort of DNS record.
The only way to get 'toolkits.sharepoint.com' is to create a new Office 365 tenant named "toolkits".

Reproducible behaviour

3. Go to List Settings
4. The Content Type order is by default
    a. Task
    b. Summary Task
5. Change the Content Type Order to
    a. Summary Task
    b. Task
6. Go To Site Settings "Title, description and icon"
7. Change the Site Url
8. Go To List "Test" List Settings
9. The Content Type order now is
    a. Task

Is this a bug? Has anyone noticed this behaviour before?

Hi Joachim,
You are not missing something or doing something wrong. i Hope :). This behavior is reproductible.
The granularity of change is better by Powershell. But by the interface is most user-friendly.
Maybe that's the reason of this behavior.

Issue in Custom Blog site definition based on SharePoint 2010 blog site definition after migrating the sites to SharePoint 2013 and site collection upgrade

I have created a custom blog site definition using SharePoint 2010 blog site definition with Configuration ID 31 in onet.xml (new value). This was working fine for SharePoint 2010.
We created new SharePoint 2013 farm and deployed the all Custom solutions in
14/15 folders. After migrating the sites to SharePoint 2013 using Content DB approach, site created previously using my custom definition are working fine.
But after running site collection upgrade these sites stop working. When I post a comment then comments not getting listed on post detail page. However comments are getting added to Comments List but
PostTitle column of Comment is not getting populated.
Also, when we create a new site in SharePoint 2013 using my custom blog template then that is also not getting provisioned. default.aspx and look-up between post and comment list are not working.
If any one has faced such issue then please share your findings and any solution to fix this.

According to your description, my understanding is that the blog based on custom blog site definition didn’t work correctly after migrating custom blog site definition to SharePoint 2013.
If you customized the Onet.xml file in a previous version's site definition, you should modify some sections in the file to work in the current version, like <BaseTypes> and <ListTemplate> etc. More information, please refer

For that the PostTitle column of Comment is not getting populated, please try to modify the view, then compare the result.

Can I Share a document with a user who does not have righs to the site? (SharePoint 2013 on prem)

Joe is in Sales
He must Share a document with Jane in Marketing.
He only wants to Share this one document.
Does he need to go into the Sales site and add Jane as a site user? Jane will then be able to see everything on the site. No good.
Does Joe now need to break inheritance on all the other site libraries from Jane to hide them??
In a perfect world, Joe shares the doc with Jane. Jane gets email with link. Jane clicks link and goes to sale site where all she sees is the document that was Shared- nothing else.

With 2013, you can just Share the specific item. It will automatically break inheritance on that item and allow Jane to see that one document only and Jane will get a link inviting her to the document.

What is the best approach to setup intranet and internet sites in SharePoint 2013?

I am planning to setup a internet and intranet website for one of our client. What is the best approach to setup this kind of environment?
Some of the users (registered users) from the internet should be able to access information in the intranet site. I have created two web applications for intranet and internet. Is it the right way to go forward?

Creating two separate web applications, one for Internet site and the other for Intranet is the right thing you have done.

What are the differences between SharePoint 2013 and Office 365 Team Sites?
If I would like to develop a professional corporate website with SharePoint technology (because the company allready uses Office 365), do you recommend using SharePoint 2013 (in the cloud) or Office 365 Team Sites? And why?

Thread was being aborted Exception while creating large number of Sites in SharePoint 2013

Hi All,
I am getting threading exception while creating a large extent of sites in SharePoint 2013. I am reading data from an excel file and then looping each row. The sites are creating for first two rows then i am getting exception. This code working fine in dev
server but not in UAT server. I tried with changing maxRequestLength in web.config but not working. And also followed the below link.

Do not like the look of Sharepoint 2013 Foundations

Recently, I migrated our Sharepoint 2007 site to Sharepoint 2013 Foundations. We do not like the look at all. The 2007 site looked much better. How would I go about making the 2013 site look like the 2007 site? I found some documents online that show you
can easily do this with Sharepoint 2010 by changing the UIversion # from 4 to 3. Is this possible for Sharepoint 2013? Thanks!

No, SharePoint 2013 does not support the 2007 UI. You'll have to do heavy custom development to get this working. To be honest, the time invested and the ongoing maintenance of such customizations is likely not worth it.

Error creating new Site in Sharepoint 2013 SP1

Hello, I am having an issue creating a new Site. The Environment is SharePoint 2013 SP1 Running on Server 2012 R2 DataCenter. This is a fresh install currently running on 2 Servers (App/Web, SQL Server). I successfully install SharePoint and then the Service
pack, then run configuration to setup the Farm. I successfully am able to setup a Web Application and Create a site collection. When I attempt to navigate to that site collection site on port 80 I get the "Sorry, Something went wrong"

I am sure above tells me exactly what is wrong, but I can't decipher it, so I can forward the info to the correct team to fix (we are a very departmentalized organization). I have already completely deleted both servers in the farm and recreated from scratch
and I get the same error, even tried a 3rd time to remove SP and download the latest patches again.

also do you have user profile services configured, if yes then web App's app pool should have permission on UPA.

Security Groups for the alerts in SharePoint 2013?

By default Microsoft has blocked to add Security Groups for the alerts in SharePoint 2013. It can be enabled but need to change the SharePoint System page setting with the help
of below link:

So my query is if I change the page setting then in future if any SharePoint updates/ hotfixes deploy in system so will it cause a problem??

I would wait as this is not a supported workaround (although it does work).

Podcast is having issues since I changed the feed url

Ever since I changed the feed url for my podcast in itunes I have problems with the feed not working properly.

When I try to download random files or episodes in this podcast it wont download in itunes. I get an error code (-50) saying it could be a network problem. But if I go to the direct feed url which is this in safari browser. I can click on the mp3 link and it plays just fine. Then after doing that I can go back into itunes and click "get" on the exact same file that wasnt downloading earlier and now it downloads. Very odd. Once that is done all files in itunes download without any problems. I thought it was just something wrong with my itunes. But it only happens for my feed when I subscribe to it. I tried it on my windows system in itunes and having the exact same problem. I called a couple people up and its happeing with them in itunes also. When one of us accesses the feed by way other than itunes it will then work for awhile then go back to not working again. It started happening when I changed the url in itunes to have it point to the feedburner url. Im having the issue right now as a matter of fact. I cant even listen to the preview of each episode. Maybe someone can try the itunes feed and check it out for me. Any ideas?
Its frustrating. Im wondering if I need to just submit a new podcast to itunes.
PS: I posted this in itunes for windows, Im using both mac and windows. Its not specific to either OS.

Im pretty sure the problem has been resolve. We own both the .org and the .com extensions of our website. The primary being the .org and a redirect if a user goes to the .com address. I use feeder to create the podcast feeds and it has an autofill feature in it. Somewhere along the line on the enclosures I inputed the .com address instead of .org. Why the redirect works just fine in most feed readers. Apparently itunes doesnt support it. One of the users in the feedburner forum picked up on this. I corrected all the enclosure urls to .org as they should be and everything so far works fine.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Change the redirect URL sent to reverse proxy

Hi all,
My system is composed of a reverse proxy(Apache 2.046) and a backend webserver (Oracle HTTP Server).
To connect to a web application on the back end web server, the Internet user connect to reverse proxy via HTTPS and the reverse proxy forward the request to backend webserver via HTTP.
Example :
Internet user type :
https://myreverseproxy/myWebApp
The reverse proxy translate this to :
http://mybackendserver/myWebApp
The problem is myWebApp do a redirect like this:
http://myreverseproxy/myWebApp/login.jsp
How can I config the reverse proxy to change the redirect URL to :
https://myreverseproxy/myWebApp/login.jsp

That is working fine.. Only thing i did is mapping node to /author . But is it possible to hit the author instance only wen i type http://localhost:4502/author . Ie: if I type http://localhost:4502 it should not resolve to my login page

How can I change the default URL for link to external page in the Hyperlink Inspector?

You can't change the default url in the inspector.. but an easier way to do it rather than editing the box everytime you need to build a link is to copy the url you want to link to and then highlight the text or image that users will click on and then click enable hyperlink.. when you do that whatever the last url you copied using "command" "C" will automatically be entered into that box and replace "livepage.apple.com"
It saves alot of time if you are doing alot of links.
