Changing the tempo of multitrack drums

Hi guys,
I am a Scandinavian songwriter-producer and I'm in the middle of an important project that will be mixed in about a week. We recorded the drums originally at the tempo of 145, but decided to change the tempo to 152 (yeah, it's a drastic change). I haven't got much time left till the mixing, but the drums are still at the wrong tempo and thus need to be recorded again or tweaked to the correct tempo if that's possible. To be able to re-record them I'd need to pack all my recording equipment (mixer, preamps, mics, stands etc.) and travel a long way to a different town, which I'd obviously love to avoid if possible.
Since it's possible to move and quantize audio (also multitrack drums) in Logic, Pro Tools and Melodyne, I was wondering if the tempo can be changed naturally enough as well. I guess Melodyne won't work because there are 14 drum tracks and Melodyne only supports up to eight tracks. This would leave me with Logic and Pro Tools. Does anyone know if one works better than the other or if either works well enough? How do I do this so that the phases remain the same? I use Logic much more than Pro Tools, so it'd be great if this could be achieved within it, but I don't mind going into Pro Tools if that's required to get the job done.
Thank you so much!
Toni

Hi
If you are on Logic 9, Flex should take care of this. Group the tracks, and *IMPORTANT* set the tempo to the original recorded tempo, then enable Flex on the tracks.
You should then be able to change the tempo as required.

  • How do you change the tempo of a drum loop?

Forgive my ignorance but I am still familiarizing myself with all the features of the program. How do you change the tempo of a drum loop? I see in the help file where it tells you how to change the projects overall tempo but not where to change the drum tempo itself. Thanks.

    Nevermind I found it, thanks.

  • How can I change the tempo of a drum loop?

Ok so I have the rhythm pack and lot's of drum loops. They are all insanely fast. It's hilarious, I can't find a single loop with just a constant hi hat tap suitable for the beginning of a slow rock song.
More importantly, there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the tempo of just the drum loops. It seems like it should be an easy thing but I've tried everything and looked all over google.
Please, if there's a work around to slowing down these 2000+ super fast drum loops, help!
    Thanks

The drum loops should adjust to the tempo of your song, also in the preview. So if you set your song to a crazy fast tempo, all loops will play very fast!

  • How can I change the tempo on drums in Garage Band 10.0.2? Not tempo of project.

I need to change the tempo of the drums that came with Garage Band 10.0.2 to fit the tempo of the other tracks in my project.  How can I do this?  I don't want to change the tempo of the other tracks.  Thanks.

A drummer track follows the tempo of the project automatically. You can switch between different drummers, and change the drum pattern of the regions in the Track editor by dragging the puck around between simple or complex, louder soft.
But you can only adjust the beats per minute of the whole project, not for the drummer track individually.
If you want to change only the tempo of the drum track, you have to use a work around, for example export your finished drum track as an audio file with a different tempo and reimport it.
silence all tracks but the drummer track.
set the tempo to a different value in the LED display.
Share the audio track to the disk.
Reset the tempo to normal and unsilence your other tracks.
    Reimport the drum track.

  • I am trying to change the tempo of a loop from Garageband.

    Hi,
I am trying to change the tempo of a loop from garage band. I have seen video tutorials where people would do this from just below their tabs in their editor. However I cant get that option to come up.
Also, I have tried using the Apple Loop utility, and I can change the BPM at the bottem but then it wont let me save the file.
I would prefer to change the tempo in soundtrack pro but at this point I will try anything.
    Thx for listening.

Left pane, Project Tab. Scroll down to the bottom and find tempo and key settings. These will control any loops in your project.

  • How to change the tempo in ultrabeat

I simply want to know how to change the tempo of a beat to the desired speed... all i can see thus far is under resolution, 1/12, 1/16, etc. But I want to match the tempo with a sample I am using which I have pasted onto an audio track.. and those increments obviously are insufficient in getting me the desired speed...
some assistance would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

Check your metronome settings first. Either click hold, or right (command) click on the record button.
If everything checks out there, go to your mixer. Check the all (single, arrange, all) button. You should now be able to see instrument track #256 Klopfgeist (sp?). Maybe you deleted it? Add it. Also check it's output is set to the correct channel.

  • Tempo change delay! Why is Logic changing the tempo too late?

    Anyone a solution for this?
My tempo change is set at e.g. 10.1.1.1 from 60 to 30 bpm. But logic is changing the tempo slightly delayed (about half a second too late.)
It looks like logic is to slow to handle the tempo change on time:
When I restart at 10.1.1.1 with the tempo allready set to 30 bpm, everything is fine. Tempo stays at 30 bpm and is not set to 60 bpm during this 0.5 seconds of delay.
But when I start at an earlier position with a different tempo, I get the wrong tempo again during this 0.5 senconds after the set tempo change at 10.1.1.1

Yeah that was it, I realised straight afterwards (I'm just impatient lol). Thanks anyway

  • Is it possible to change the tempo mid-song in GarageBand for iPad? And if so, how do you do it?, Is it possible to change the tempo mid-song in GarageBand for iPad? And if so, how do you do it?

Is it possible to change the tempo mid-song in GarageBand for iPad? And if so, how do you do it?

The tempo setting applies to the whole song, but only to the recorded midi instruments or loops. It's a bit of a kludge, but you could record different sections at different tempos, export each as an AIFF file, then glue them together in a new project.
The same goes for the key.

  • How do you change the tempo after you have already openned the project

Is there a way to change the tempo? I know you can set it as you create the new project, but once you have created it, can you change the tempo, particularly on the metronome? And is there a way to hear it without hitting record?

on the left side of the numerical display click and select "project", then click on the tempo to adjust it.
the metronome can only sound during record and playback (if selected to in prefs)

  • How To Change the Tempo of Just One Track?

I want to change the tempo of just one track of a song, but when I change the tempo of one track, the tempo of the whole song changes and gets messed up. Does anyone know how to just change the tempo of just one track of the whole song.

You can not change the tempo of a single track, in GB it's one tempo per song.
The only workaround would be to change the tempo, export only that track (soloed), and then drop the export back into your project (with it set back to the proper tempo)

  • How can I change the tempo and pitch of individual tracks on Garageband 10.0.3?

I just recently started using Garageband 10.0.3 and it's been updated completely, which is good in some ways. However, many things have been cleaned up and/or hidden and it's taken me a while to find certain tools or do certain things.
I've been trying to change the pitch of tracks in my project and it's taken me forever to find out how, but eventually I did. I think, though, that it changes the pitch of the whole project? (I changed the pitch by using one of the plugins, I think it's called AUPitch?) I have to double-check that, but that's how I've been changing the pitch of the tracks.
To the bigger problem... Tempo. I have searched for a good 2 hours trying to find out how to change the tempo of tracks individually and I'm really frustrated. I tried the BPM solution (changing the BPM at the very top), but that seems to change the whole project. I just want to change the tempo of individual tracks, not the whole thing. Is it even possible now?
I'm really considering using a different program. Hopefully this is just me being slightly clueless and not Garageband's fault.

The AuPitch filter will work on individual tracks, no problem.
But you can change the tempo only for the entire project with the global tempo setting or the Tempo Track.
As a work-around: To change the tempo of individual tracks solo each track, change the tempo, then bounce the track as an audio file and reimport that audio file with the changed tempo to an audio track.

  • How can I change the tempo (and the snap grid) of the project without altering the duration of the original audio clips?

This question is for Logic Express.
I have many very short audio clips that I recorded into my project.
I want to adjust the project tempo so that I can use the snap grid to make a beat out of my short audio clips. But when I change the project tempo, it automatically adjusts the lengths of my audio clips.
So how can I change the tempo (and the snap grid) of the project without altering the original audio clips?

The reason some files sound funny and others don't is because audio is handled a few different in Garageband depending on it's source (audio your recorded vs Apple Loops vs non Apple Loop pre recorded audio). Each of these have different color regions with different properties.  I just found this thread that might better explain it:

    I hope that helps!
