Changing Time Capsule IP Address

My internet modem IP address was changed due to recent thunderstorm. Problem now is my time capsule is the old IP address. Can someone let me know where to find my new address at and how do i change it in the time capsule?

By default your Time Capsule will receive an IP Address from your ISP via the Internet modem that it is connected to. That is, typically, because you would have the Time Capsule perform as a DHCP client. (It's default configuration.)
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

Time Capsule ip address problem

I have timecapsule needful to change the ip address.
Timecapsule only helps 10.0.0.1, 172.0.0.1, 192.168.1.1 network.
If i want to change the ip address to 171.0.0.1 to any private ip cannot change.
i want to use 171.0.0.1 network.
Can anyone help me to resolve the problem???????

Sorry, but this is not possible with the Time Capsule as you have pointed out that it can only use the 10.0.x.x, 172.0.x.x, or 192.168.x.x ranges.

Airport Utility won't let me change time capsule settings....

I've had my TC about 2 weeks, and haven't had any problems until now....
when I am in close proximity, i use it with an ethernet cable, and if i am in other parts of the house i will set it to transmit wirelessly. up until now there hasn't been any problems with this. now however, it is connected via ethernet, and when i open airport utility it recognises the TC, but when i click continue to update the settings and change it back to wireless, it get's stuck on the "reading the time capsule's configuration..." page, and after five minutes says "there was an error with the connection-6722".
I can read files from the TC and write to it. i just can't update the settings! can anyone help??

This has me a bit confused as to why you're doing this.
I say this because my Macbook is sometimes directly connected to the TC over a wired network connection, and sometimes wirelessly via the TC. It has no trouble backing up regardless of what connection is utilized. I just leave the wireless enabled on the TC, and so have no need to re-configure the TC. I can read the TC configuration with the Airport Utility via either connection.
I'm not sure this helps, but am I missing something??

HT3728 change time capsule password

I want to change my time capsule password, since it's too simple.

Recently, Apple has been using the same password for both the base station and wireless, but if you only want to allow other users to use the wireless.....and not be able to change any of the settings on the Time Capsule.......then you would need to use a separate password for the base station and a separate password for the wireless.
On your Mac.....
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
To change the Base Station Password, click on the Base Station tab at the top of the window and edit the Base Station Password, then enter again to Verify.
Then, click on the Wireless tab. If you want to use same password as the Base Station, enter the same password and verify. If you want to use a separate wireless password, then enter the password that you want to use in the Wireless Password and Verify.
Then, click Update at the lower right of the window and allow a minute for the Time Capsule to restart with the new settings.

AirPort Utility allows changing Time Capsule disk password with a device password only

I just noticed that changing disk password is allowed for anyone who has a Time Capsule device password. (AirPort Utility WIndows version)
I find that illogical.
Is it a kind of bug or it is intended to be this way?

Well, lets say that you had friends or other family members that use the Time Capsule for wireless connections.
And, you have files on the Time Capsule drive that you only want to share with one other person. If you use a disk password, only the person with the disk password will be able to see the files on the drive.
If you don't set up a disk password, then anyone who is using the Time Capsule wireless will be able to see the files on the drive.
So, if you want everyone to have access to the files on the drive, then use the device password.
If you do not want everyone to have access to the files on the drive, then use a disk password

Changing time capsule

With the failure of my old Timecapsule after many years of great service, I reinstalled a new 2TB timecapsule to take it's place. I used Network Utilities to remove the old timecapsule and connect the new system. All appeared to go well until i restarted my iMac in Final Cut Pro or Pages. Suddenly I started getting this error message.
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again. (and the iMac continues to try and connect to my old Time capsule server.)
I have been through the network Utilites to unpick this but the old timecapsule is nowwhere to be seen.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

You do not setup the new TC with network utility.. you use the airport utility.
I am not sure exactly what you are doing or how the old TC was configured.. but the best way is to start over..
Setup the new TC for your network using the airport utility.
If you already have a router then bridge the TC.. if no router then put the TC in router mode. (DHCP and NAT).
Then reboot everything.. that is very important if you have a cable modem..
If you don't get anywhere give the whole network layout and what the old TC was setup as, modem or router.

Changing Time Capsule Back Up Intervl

I found a post on a site that offered as a way to change the TC backup interval editing the file com.apple.backupd-auto.plist, and changing the startinterval variable. I can't find that file anywhere. Ican find jillions of plist and lost of com.apple files, but none like that. Any idea where that file might be located?

Might be simpler to just take a look at Time Machine Editor. It will let you schedule backups whenever you like with a few clicks.

Hi, my Iphone 4s is no longer picking up the signal from my time capsule, that was after i changed the ip address for the time capsule.

i use to connect my iphone 4s to my time capsule through wirless, for some reason, the time capsule IP address changed and i had to retern it the correct one. when i did this , my iphone stopped connecting to the time capsule wireless . how cn i return the connection to the iphone 4s?

Reset the TC.. use SMB names, short, no spaces pure alphanumeric for everything.
TC name, wireless name, hard disk share name.
Fix the radio channels.. try channel, 6, 11 maybe 1 although I have heard people have issues with 1.
It sounds like the TC is bridged.. make sure the main router dhcp has sufficient addresses available.
There are a few other things but try those and post again if you still have issues.

How to config Time capsule remote access with Motorola SVG1202 router?

I'm having difficulty trying to congif Time capsule remote acces. I have a router Motorola SVG1202 and Time capsule config to Bridge mode, when I change Time capsule config to "DHCP and NAT", an error of "Double NAT" happens. How to correct this? Tried to search what to do exactly but no luck, appreciate anyone support.

Method 3 will work if you have a modem/router or gateway device, as it appears that the SVG1202 is......with the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode.
The method 3 has some differences from my Airport Utility options (v6.3.2), please if there are any image of the screen options would be helpfull.
You will not be using AirPort Utility to set up port forwarding for the Time Capsule, so as long as you can get the Time Capsule back to Bridge Mode, you should not need any additional help on AirPort Utiltiy 6.3.2.
Basically, all the setup will be on the Motorola device.
The first order of business is that you have a Static Internet IP address from your service provider. It is not practical to consider Method 3 unless you have this in place.
Then, the Motorola must be able to assign a fixed IP address to the Time Capsule on your network......probably something like 192.168.1.4.....for example only.
If the first two conditions can be met, the Motorola still needs to have the capability to set up Port Forwarding. If it does, then you would set up Port 548 for both Private UDP and Private TCP.
Then set up a port number....example 8888.....for Public UDP and Public TCP.
Then, from your Mac, you would click the Finder Go menu and click Connect to Server
Enter the following:
afp://12.345.678.910:8888
The 12.345.679.910 is an example of the IP address that your provider furnished to you for your Internet connection with their service.
Then, click Connect

Problems after adding an external HD to my Time Capsule

Hello... I had asked some questions back in July about expanding my Time Capsule capacity for Time Machine in the following discussion:

I have finally recently implemented this solution over the Labor Day weekend. Here is my scenario:
1st generation Time Capsule, 1 TB, supporting Time Machine sparsebundle backups for 2 MacBook Pros, and filling up.
I have added a 2 TB external hard drive via USB. I connected the external HD to a Belkin 4-port powered USB hub using a USB device cable. I connected the hub to the Time Machine USB port using a USB to mini-USB cable.
I then changed the Time Machine backup for one of the MacBook Pros to go to the external drive. I started a backup to allow the sparsebundle file to be created, then cancelled the backup. I connected the notebook directly to the Time Capsule via ethernet cable and restarted the backup so it could write the first complete sparsebundle more quickly.
It all seemed to have worked out perfectly. But since then, I have other Macs on the home network (iMacs and a Mac Pro) which will fire an alert that another device on the network is using their IP address. When looking in the Console app, I can find in the system logs that the device using the IP address of the other Mac is the Time Capsule (identified by the network mac address).
I suspect that something about the addition of the external hard drive to the Time Capsule is causing this. This past Saturday, we shut down all devices on the network (Macs, a printer, Time Capsule + air disk), router, and cable modem.. then gradually brought them back up one by one. I thought it was solved... but it did not stay solved, as we experienced IP address conflicts again yesterday on the iMac and today on the Mac Pro.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions as to a cause and a resolution... Thanks in advance...

I continue to have the Time Capsule hardware address grabbing the IP address of other computers on my home network. Typically, it appears that the IP addresses it takes are those of computers on the wired ethernet network, versus wireless devices. I have not been able to pinpoint whether the IP address grab occurs when the Time Capsule and its external drive are connecting to the MacBookPro to do a Time Machine backup, or at some other time.
Asking another question, therefore.... will I be able to solve this issue if I go to AirPort Utility and change my Time Capsule from DHCP to a static IP Address? I know DHCP is preferable, but when Time Capsule grabs the IP address of another device, DHCP is not assigning another IP address to the computer whose address has been grabbed.

Configure Time Capsule as a wired network drive for Time Machine Backups

I have a 4th generation Time Capsule, a MBPr on OS X Mountain Lion.
Time Capsule/Time Machine work fine in wireless mode. But, that's not what I prefer!
Rather, I want to connect Time Capsule by ethernet cable to my cable modem (VZ FiOS), and turn off the Time Capsule's wireless, and access the Time Capsule as another newtork hard drive and let Time Machine perform backups with my Asus RT-N66U router.
I have got the Time Capsule set up, but can't get Time Machne set up to perform backups with it. Here are the steps I've taken:
Open Time Machine
Turn Time Machine On
Pop-up shpws Other Time Capsule
Highlight Other Time Capsule and click SetUp
AirPort Utility pops up and can't find the Time Machine, of course, since its wireless is turned off.
On the menu, File-->Enter Address and Password for the Time Capsule
The Time Capsule screen comes up under Base Station. No need to change the name or password.
Back To My Mac is set up with my Apple account
Internet shows 192.168.1.101 as the Time Capsule's address
Wireless: Network Mode is off
Network: Router Mode set to Off-Bridge Mode
Disks shows one Time Capsule partition. File Sharing is enabled, and Secure Shared Disks is set to With Device Password.
I have to change something...then change it back...to get AirPort Utility to try to update settings on the Time Capsule. That's where things fall apart. AirPort Utility just spins away. It never finishes. I end up using Force Kill to close AirPort Utility.
Any suggestions? Is there a way to configure Time Machine without AirPort Utility?

There should be one router.. The Asus..
The TC should be plugged into that, not the cable modem. Only the Asus should have a connection to the cable modem. The TC should be in bridge.. which from your other listing it is.
I think this is the actual setup you have..
You should be able in finder to make the TC disk available (alhough I don't use ML yet).. using to server.
And type in AFP://TCIPaddress or AFP://TCName obviously replacing the generic with the actual name.
Does that work?

Airport Time capsule behind cisco router download speed

My airport time capsule is connected to the internet in bridge mode via a cisco router.
The cisco router provides a 99Mbps download speed. However, when I " bridge" my time capsule in between (wired) the speed slows down to 9 Mbps.
I have already tried to assign a static DHCP IP to my time capsules MAC address and disabled DMZ for that specific IP address, but am failing to get the speed up to par.
Any suggestions?

I have used Time capsule 1.5 year behind a copperjet modem on ADSL, no problems.
Changed provider and am connected by cable with new cisco modem including router.
So the set up looks like:
internet>cisco modem/router>airport time capsule>macbook pro
The cisco modem without airport time capsule is working ok: when logged in speed is 99 Mbps as it should be (wired and wireless)
Connecting cisco router with UTP cable to time capsule and time capsule with UTP to macbook slows down speed to 9 Mbps
(time capsule in bridgemode)
Specs:
Macbook pro OSX yosemite
Airport Time capsule 2TB 2013 (v 7.7.3)
Cisco modem/router:EPC3928

Motorola surfboard, Time capsule network problem

I have inadvertently reset my network settings which were previously working fine. The set up was a motorola surfboard 5100 connected to a time capsule via ethernet. Networked to the TC were a couple of MacBooks, and a couple of imacs and a printer all connected via airport. Telstra Saturn refuse support for networks setting or Mac and Mac support direct me to Telstra all to no avail.
I can get one computer networked by:
- manually inputting the TCP/IP settings provided by Telstra into one computers network settings (IP address 203.97.101.47, router: 203.97.101.1)
- and with what I recall were the previous settings for the manually configured Time Capsule (IP address 10.0.0.1, Router 10.0.0.2
- the other Macs IP network settings I have set as 10.0.03/4/5 etc respectively
This set up only allows the one computer with the Telstra supplied network setting to get connected but not the other Macs or printer. They all connect over airport but not to the internet.
I have tried powering down both the TC and modem as well as setting the TC to share a public IP, distributing a range of IPs and bridge mode.

I'm having trouble picking out your new replies from your last two messages.
The main problem with manual settings (as opposed to DHCP) is that the "other" device that a manually-configured device is connected to may refuse to honor those settings. You can tell a computer or router that it should have a particular IP address, but if the device at the other side of the connection doesn't believe that, things won't work.
Let's back up and start over. First, every time you change what's connected to your modem, you'll need to reset the modem to convince it to connect the the new device. The manual mentions a reset button on the back panel and that it can take 5 to 30 minutes for a reset to take effect.
Power down the Time Capsule. Connect your Mac to the modem with an Ethernet cable. Turn off AirPort on your Mac. Open the Network panel of System Preferences and select the Ethernet connection item. (Add one if it doesn't already exist.) Set "Configure IPv4" to "Using DHCP". See if the status is "connected". Note the IP address. Once everything is working the WAN IP address of the Time Capsule should be similar. Verify that you can access the Internet.
Now unplug the Mac and reset the modem. Apply power to the Time Capsule. Connect an Ethernet cable between your Mac and a LAN port of the Time Capsule. Launch AirPort Utility and put the Time Capsule into "manual setup" mode. In AirPort Utility's Internet panel, Internet Connection tab, set "Connect Using" to "Ethernet". In the Internet panel, TCP/IP tab, set "Configure IPv4" to "Using DHCP". In the Internet Connection tab set "Connection Sharing" to "Share a public IP address". Update the Time Capsule. Now connect another Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the Time Capsule. In AirPort Utility check the AirPort panel, Summary tab to see if the IP address is similar to what you saw on your Mac earlier. If that's what you see, try to access the Internet from your Mac. If that works, you're just about done.

Time Capsule 4 and Netgear DG834G router.

Hi - help required please! . I've replaced by old Time Capsule with a shiny new 4th generation, but cant seem to get it playing with my original Netgear router. I had previously had two wireless networks running - one from the router and one from the time capsule. With the new TC this seems to give all sorts of conflict problems. Rather than trying the bridge mode I thought I would disable the Netgear wireless network and use it just as a modem. I got as far as then creating a new wireless network just on the time capsule, got the magic green light going ... but no Internet access for my Mac! There must be some settings that I need to change, but after two hours on the phone to Netgear they could not work it out.
Does anybody here know how to finalise this set up/

Does the Time Capsule reside on the same sub-net as the Router. e.g. do the first 3 numbers in the IP address the same 192.168.0.xxx.
Have you told the Time Capsule that the DNS Server is the IP Address of the router?
I would setup the IP Address on the Time Capsule to be static, and disable the DCHP server.
I don't have a Time Capsule but this what I would do.
Router
IP Address 192.168.0.1 (default)
Router Sub Net 255.255.255.0
Router LAN settings
DHCP Server Enabled, Range 192.168.0.20 - 192.168.0.80
Time Capsule
IP Address 192.168.0.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0

Connecting Time Capsule to PS3 Slim

We are having a heck of a time getting our new PS3 Slim to work with our TimeCapsule (wireless internet connection). The PS3 sees the Time Capsule, but the PS3 queries against the Time Capsule and then times out before it ever gets an IP address from the Time Capsule. We have WPA2 incryption. So we looked on Google, and someone said we needed to convert the password to a hexidecimal string (which we did using Airport Utility). When we got this string, it was all cap letters and numbers. When we entered it, the PS3 told us the format was wrong, which we assume is because it needs a lowercase letter, which the Aiport Utility did not give us.
We have other computers using our network, so we know connectivity is not the problem. We can't seem to get the PS3 to talk to Aiport.
Anyone had this problem and have a solution? Do we need to change to WEP? Do we need to change the Time Capsule password to a numeric string? We are at a loss.

We have our PS3 connected wirelessly to our Time Capsule > ADSL Modem > Internet, first I used the Easy option to configure the PS3 then once I had a connection went back and Customised the settings.
One thing to make sure of is the *WAP2-PSK (AES)* Key make sure you enter it correctly as mistaking a capitol I - i for a lowercase l -L will mess everything up.

Another thing to note after you have successfully got your connection running is the DNS addresses. I did have ours set to Automatic which was then using the Time Capsule, however going onto VidZone I could not get videos to play, Playstation Home was fine. So I went back into the settings and changed the +Primary and Secondary DNS+ addresses to the ones my ISP states on their website. After this all the videos in VidZone run like a dream.
