Changing Time Signature within a song

Hello smart Logic people,
To be specific: how do I change from 4/4 to 2/4 for one measure then back to 4/4?
I've found great answers on how to change the meter but not how to change a meter within a song.
I apologize if this has been answered -- but I was unable to find it after an extensive search.
Thanks!

Disregard this post. I stumled upon the answer! I was only able to do it by going to the measure location I wanted to change and changing the meter in the TRANSPORT WINDOW. The Global area changed the entire song.

  • Can't change Time Signature before Bar 1

I have a song that I want to have a 2 bar count in of 7/8, then go into 13/16 starting on bar 1. Somehow the count-in time sig got changed to 18/8, and everytime I try clicking before bar 1, and re-setting it to 7/8, it just stays on 18/8. I can't figure out why it won't let me change it. I can change the time sig on bar 1 and every thing after it, but not the count-in. Is there somewhere special I'm supposed set that count-in time signature? Maybe there's something I've hit that locks the count-in time signature?

As a workaround you could just start your 7/8 count on bar 1, and change to 13/16 at bar 3. Then after you get it recorded you can move it back to bar 1. I've tried to do what you're trying on my settup and can confirm that it does not work.

  • How can I set time signature for my song?

I wanted to compose a song in Garageband in a time signature 3/4. I couldn't see any setting which lets me set it. Also I wanted to know what all time signatures do Garage Band support ?E.g. 2/3/, 4/4, 6/8,7/8 ...Would really appriciate if someone can help.

As far as I'm aware GarageBand for iPad only supports 4/4 time, at least in it's present form.

  • Fast Dup of Time Signature Change

    Hi there,
I've got a song that changes Time Signature for each bar from 3/4 to 5/4 and on (which is in fact 3+5/8 if I'm not mistaken). Now how can I set these and then simply duplicate it thru-out the whole song instead of setting each bar manually?
    Thanks in advance!
    Micha

Again, not the answer I wanted, but its the right one I am finding.
You might consider to upgrade to Logic, if you need this feature frequently and would profit from the other more advanced options. Not to be able to change the time signature, is the one thing about GarageBand that I really don't like. But I decided to stick with GarageBand anyway, because I like its simplicity.
Perhaps one day this will be added to GarageBand - when I started with GarageBand, it was impossible to change the tempo, but now you can.
You may want to send feedback to Apple, that you need this feature:

  • Time signature changes

Hey everybody. I got a song I'm sending to a friend who is a drummer. He needs a click track. Problem is, the song has several different time signatures throughout. A 4/4 click track makes things pretty confusing running through a whole song that isn't all in 4/4. Does anyone have a work around for this, or an idea they can throw my way? Is there a way I can program a click track as a single track of it's own? And if so, can I program it at different time signatures at certain times? Apologies if that's confusing. Only way I could think of wording it. Thanks.
    Eric

Neither GarageBand on the iPad nor GarageBand on the Mac allow different time signatures in one song.
The best you can do in a project would be to set one Time Signature, and then ignore it in the sections of the song with a diferent signature.
To create a click track with different signatures, create a new project for each of the sections of the song with different signature, then share these as audio files to a computer and sync the audio back to the music app on your iPad.
Then create another project for the combined click track: import the audio sections as loops to one track (using the loop browser) and combine them to your click track.

  • Copying multiple time signature changes

I suspect this might have a really simple answer but I can't seem to work it out..
I'm working with a 16 bar section in the arrange that changes time signature every bar or two - all working fine with changes showing in the global tracks area. How do I copy this section in the arrange while also copying the appropriate time signature changes? My normal copy/paste routine doesn't copy the signature changes as well.
    Thanks,

    Ah yeah that worked

  • Wierd Time Signature Changes Within Song - HELP!!

Hey all, I am recording a song with a combo of real vocals & instruments, some loops, and some parts played via soft synth. Many of the recorded parts were originally recorded in Ableton Live, but I slaved it to Logic and re-recorded the parts in Logic tracks so I can continue and finish the song in Logic. It's all been done to a click track at 127 bpm. Between bars 17-20, the time signature changes radically, and it shows in the display at the top above the tracks. I don't know how this happened, or how to change it. Everything gets condensed to a smaller signature, although I cannot think of a better way to explain it. I took a screen shot and would be happy to email it to anyone (I don't know how to embed images in these posts). I am in desperate need of help here as this little glitch throws off the click for the remainder of the song. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Just position the playhead to bar 17 and change the time signature in the transport window to how it should be (e.g. like the rest of the song). Do the same in the following bars if needed. This actually deletes the "wrong" time signatures and sets everything back to "normal".

  • How do you change the time signature in Ultrabeat? I want to record something in 3/4. Thanks

    Hello,
I want to record a song in 3/4 using Ultrabeat. I can't figure out how to change the time signature in Ultrabeat. Any ideas?
    Thank you,
                        Evereman

    Hi
You need to take into account the Resolution (how big is each step) and the number of steps (the Length)
For example, with a resolution of 1/16, one bar of 3/4 would be 12 steps, 2 bars 24, etc
You can set these parameters at the bottom of the UB interface

  • Anyway to set the time signature mid song?

I'm making a song in garageband and i need to change the time signature for one bar from 4/4 to 2/4 and then back again, is there anyway to do this?
    Your help is appreciated.

Sorry, GB only allows for one time sig per song. As long as you don't need the notation, you can probably live with it that your bars now are shifted two quarters - until you insert the next 2/4.

  • When I edit a song in itunes (i.e change the year) on purchased songs, the next time I return to itunes, the information has reverted back to the original information. How can I change that?

When I edit a song in itunes (i.e change the year) on purchased songs, the next time I return to itunes, the information has reverted back to the original information. How can I change that?
When I purchase ITunes music, and it is a song from a Greatest Hits album, the Year of the song shows the year the CD was released and not the year the song was released (i.e. a song may be from 1986, but the Greatest Hits album was released in 1999, so my songs in ITunes show 1999).    So, I go into each of those songs and change it to the year that I want to be displayed. As long as I don't exit out of ITunes, it will show the year that I changed it to (i.e. the 1986 year in this case). But if I exit out of ITunes and then return to ITunes, the year reverts back to 1999. The same happens if I change the genre of a song from, say 'Pop' to 'Alternative', it will revert back the next time I log in.
Oddly enough, as soon as I right-click on that song to change it back, the year/genre that I had entered returns.
How can I make it so my changes are permanently displayed as I want them?  This is pretty annoying when I try to find a song on my Ipod under a certain genre, but it doesn't appear in that genre because the incorrect information gets synched to the Ipod.

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:
Then exit iTunes and open it up again.  Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match).  If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

  • My ipod nano 7th gen. won't save the changes I make to a song's start and stop time. How do I fix this?

So I have a few songs that I don't like the intro to or the end of it that I had cut to where I wanted on my previous ipod. When I try to do the ame thing with this one with the start and stop time, it will work for awhile and then randomly start and stop where it had originally. I have done it like 4 times now for some songs and I can't seem to get it to stick. Suggestions?

If you use the Sync feature in iTunes, then it needs to be done to the song in your Music Library, then synced with the iPod.  If you do not use the Sync feature and are performing the changes to the song on your iPod specifically, then the setting may be getting overwritten when you drag the song that's already on the iPod back onto the iPod.  It will overwrite all local settings for the song on the iPod with the settings in your library.
Try performing the changes to the song in your music library, and then dragging it back over to your ipod (or Sync your iPod if you use that feature).  This will make sure that the setting are consistent in both your library and iPod in-case you were to ever overwrite the song once more.

  • In iOS 4, you could make separate photo slide shows with separate songs.   In iOS 5, this has changed. Now only 1 song is allowed at a time. It will not save separate song selections for each slide show.  Is there any way to fix this? This is something I

My Photos app works the same on iOS 5 as it did on iOS 4 i.e. I can have a different track for each album. When I select a track for a photo album I then start the slideshow so that it shows the first couple of photos with the track playing - I'm not sure it's necessary to start the slideshow but I always do and it remembers that track for that album.

  • How do you set up tempo for compound time signatures? ie if I have a song that starts in 4/4 then goes to 12/8 but I want the same tempo

Logic doesn't let you set a bpm based on a compound time signature
So for 12/8 it gives the tempo for the 8s not for the dotted 4s
In order to get Logic to deal with this, I had to manually increase the tempo from say 90 for 4/4 to 135 for 12/8
    Am I missing something?
    Thank you
    David

    Hi
Yep... Logic's tempo display in the Transport etc. is always based on 1/4 notes (crochets), regardless of time signature.
You can get the "correct" tempo to display in the Score by using "dotted crochet=" or "quaver=" symbols, which may help with the necessary tempo calculations.

  • Time signature Automation

Does anyone know if there is automation options for time signatures, say I wanted to go from 4/4 to 7/4 mid song, and not have the metronome be the death of me? I know '10 didn't have them

No, GB only allows for one time sig per song. But you can just ignore the bar lines. If the downbeat of the metronome bugs you, create your own clicktrack with a drum instrument, there you can even create your own downbeats according to your changing time sigs!
