Changing to another exchange for Infinity

Hi, I have a question for you guys, I've already raised this with BT and am awaiting a response....
I have one line coming into my house from the cabinet some distance away, the local exchange I am connected to has just been upgraded. Due to the distance from the Road side cabinet BT are only able to provide me with 'faster broadband'
I'm getting 9Mbps (ish) down and 800Kbps (ish) up.
Anyway, the pole that that feeds my phone line is outside my driveway... HOWEVER... my neighbours phone line (from a different exchange) is at the side of my garden. I have done a check on his postcode and number and am being told he can get Infinity up to 40Mbps down and 10Mbps up.
I'd like to order another line, dedicated to Internet access, I'd like to know if I can request that the new line is added to my neighbours exchange thus giving me a better internet speed. (It's hard work with kids in the house all wanting to watch Netflix at the same time)
Do you think this is a resonable request? and is it likely to be done?
My only other option after that... NO, NOT MOVE HOUSE, is to pay my neighbour for him to get Infinity and me run a Cat5/6 cable over to my house. I'm not yet convinced he would like me doing the cable thing.
Any thoughts would be great, thanks.

That rules out that theory then, CAT cable it must be, all being the neighbour will agree to my request.
Something interesting I have found on the Connecting Cheshire website's FAQ's.....
From Spring 2013, anyone in an FTTC-enabled area can upgrade to FTTP.  FTTP allows any end-user to have a full fibre connection installed to their home or business premise. There will be a charge for the associated network build and an installation charge – all based on distance from our nearest network nodes. FTTP will allow access to speeds of up to 330Mbit/s downstream and 30Mbit/s upstream.
Enquiries about FTTP should be directed to your ISP. Please note that orders for FTTP will be subject to a detailed local survey and additional connection charges.

  • Too close to exchange for Infinity?

I live about 100 yards from my exchange (Almondsbury) and see from the BT website that, as I'm connected direct to the exchange, I can't get Infinity. Why is this and will I ever be able to get it? According to a BT engineer there's only one joint between me and the exchange.

  • Going for Infinity - will BT agree to cable change...

When I upgraded to ADSL2 I soon found out that my internal extension wiring was not up to the job and had to plug my hub into the master socket. This means that I am having to use wireless from my PC to my hub so may be losing a bit in the process as they are in different rooms. I have a Smart TV with Wi-Fi access in the same room as the hub and the connection is flawless. Given that the Infinity speeds should be 5 times as fast ADSL2 I am thinking of changing my set up so that the extension becomes the master so that I can have the hub by my PC and ethernet into my PC which would mean placing the hub in a different room to my Smart TV. I also have a very long length of external wiring that runs far longer than it needs to around the property from the BT pole. I would like to eliminate that length so that the wiring takes the shortest route from the pole to what I would like to be the new master socket. I have had new fascia boards and these are over the existing wiring but to my mind it should not be insurmountable to change the outside wiring as the the connection bracket that the cable from the BT pole leads to has not been touched.
I have drawn up a basic plan showing the existing layout and my proposed changes. Would this be deemed as being to great a change to wiring as part of the Infinity installation? Would BT want to charge me extra for this?
Property is a typical double fronted bungalow with hall between lounge with existing master socket and my study area where I want to move master socket to.
The advantage for me is that I would be able to have PC plugged directly into the hub and reduce the distance to the FTTC cabinet by the width of my property, and would free up a window sill where existing hub sits. Looking at the size of the new hub's I am not convinced my other half would be happy having it all in the lounge especially as the double socket that is there has the phone and hub plugged into it so I don't think there would be enough sockets. I would also probably need to add an extra power socket in the room where I want my hub to be but as I have an electrician in the family this would be relatively easy to achieve and everything would be out of sight behind my computer desk.
If I were to get BT to agree to make the change - given that I would be increasing from 13mb that I can see wirelessly from my PC at the moment to a predicted 66mb service would moving the modem result in any Wi-Fi signal problems for my smart TV which would then be in a different room.
Who do I need to contact to run this by and obtain agreement as it is obviously not something I can hit the engineer with when he comes to do the installation.

I know this may be a silly question but how? If the internal wiring was not good enough for ADSL2+ to cope with how come it is good enough for Infinity? By default if the wiring is left as it is the signal will come into the existing master socket which will be in effect an extension and then the signal will have to travel along internal wiring of indeterminate age and quality.  It is a BT socket so assume that the extension was first installed by BT in the days before cordless phones but I have subsequently moved the socket from another room, so it could be used by my PC in the good old days of dial up and beyond to ADSL2+.
Is the idea that the master socket will remain the master socket with the so called 30 metre extension cable being run from it to the extension so that it can take the hub? If my understanding of the video on this website is correct this cabling will not be hidden and will go along ceilings and door frames? - Well having placed all electric and phone cabling in ducting before replastering every room I most definately do not want any new unhidden cabling. I doubt anyone would who has a visible cable free property. One solution could be for the engineer to feed the cabling along the path of the existing extension cabling so that the new cabling is hidden from view? That may be a workaround but it seems a waste of cable to be honest when there is a far easier solution available which is to move the master socket.
Whilst upgrading to ADSL2+ I was told that distance to the exchange was a crucial factor and that issues such as wind on the line, ice, a DACS unit on the pole, christmas lights and other sources of interference would affect the speeds and that any reduction in distance would help the speed. Surely it must be the same for Infinity because as far as I have seen BT have not been digging holes up to lay fibre optic cable around town and certainly the cable from the cabinet to my master socket definately will not be fibre optic.
I do need to be absolutely sure of how the installation would work before ordering which is why I am highlighting these issues to avoid problems down the line. I was quoted £134 subject to survey by Openreach to move the point of entry last year (when Infinity in Spalding seemed a pipe dream) - so it is theoretically possible to move the phone line entry point so that the extension can become the master socket in the true meaning of the term. It seems logical if Openreach do the installation for Infinity that they should be able to make the shift at the same time.
As for Wi-Fi TV it is a top end Sony with its own Sony dongle and the wireless apps are pretty much instant. If there is a delay it is when the programme is being downloaded, but even an hour programme takes less than 30 seconds to start up. Absoluletly no lags on BBC iPlayer or You Tube and it performs better than my PC or even my laptop when the latter is in the same room.

  • Exchange upgraded for Infinity, but online checker...

    Hi all,
not sure how simple this question is, but I'll ask it anyway as the online live chat with BT doesn't garner any useful info - they probably don't have it readily available.
I live in Fair Oak, and the exchange here, as well as Eastleigh, have been enabled for Infinity. Eastleigh is 2 miles down the road. My parents live in Eastleigh and they are able to get Infinity, but I'm not. The online checker states that it isn't rolled our here yet, but I know that Fair Oak exchange has been upgraded (again, another BT online checker states it has been completed already - as has Eastleigh)
My question is this; how long after an exchange is upgraded are all numbers migrated to use the Infinity service?
    Thanks

  • Here's a fix for "This item cannot be updated because it has been changed by another user or process"

    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/System-Center-Service-fca7af29
A few months ago on the Technet Gallery, I submitted this custom control to be used on SCSM console forms. The purpose of the control is to eliminate the "This item cannot be updated because it has been changed by another user or process" error
message that we all have seen at least once (a day :) ).
The details are in the gallery description (along with installation instructions for existing forms and your own custom forms).
Here's a "short" description (nothing I ever post here is short :) ): This is a custom control that can be applied to an SCSM form like the Service Request form or Windows Computer form or your own custom form built with the authoring tool or Visual
Studio. When you click "OK" or "Apply" on the form, this control scans the form and Service Manager's database for any changes to the object you have open. If a property that _you_ have changed on the form was _also_ changed in the CMDB
(by a workflow or another user), this control will present a dialog box letting you know what happened. It will also let you choose which value to keep (yours, theirs, or the original value).
Just as importantly (and important in a greater percentage of cases), if a workflow changes a "background" property (like FirstAssignedDate) while you have the form open and you click OK, the control will detect the change and allow the form submission
to go through while keeping your changes and the FirstAssignedDate change that the workflow made. You won't get an error message or even a warning. And most importantly, you won't lose your changes.
That's where the "optimistic" part of the control's name comes from. It applies optimistic concurrency control to SCSM forms, while also providing an anti-collision interface for you to use so you no longer lose any of your changes.
Furthermore, this control will work on related items that are opened in memory; for example, the activities on a Service Request. So if you change an activity's title while the workflow engine sets it in progress, you won't get an error. The activity will
be in progress and will get your new title when you click OK or Apply.
Lastly, (and I admit this part is getting into the deep inner workings of console forms) if your form loads a sub projection at run time (to the root object) this control will detect the load and treat that sub projection as if it were apart of the original
    form all along.
I've gotten a little feedback about this control, but I'd like to get more since it's a work in progress. So, I'm announcing it here on the forums. Please give it a try and let me know if you have any questions. I'll be happy to answer them here. Thanks,
    folks!
Oh, and to answer the most common question right away: It's free. There is no paid version or anything like that. This is something I built for the SCSM community.

    Great job!
    Will definitely try it out.
    Best regards,
    Marcus

I would contact Apple directly and have them work with to get the iPod shipped to a new/different address.

I moved to another country and would like to change the billing country for the credit card. It doesn't allow me to switch the country only street etc.. Do I have to create a new account separately for a new country?

Nope. You can only have one credit card attached to an account at a time. Its not that big of a deal to use two accounts, users do this all the time. Create the second account(UK Account) in iTunes on your computer...sign out of your Italian account first. Then authorize your computer for this new account: Store>Authorize this computer. Then sync your phone. Now, to switch accounts on your phone: Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...then sign back in with the ID you want to use.

Apple will repair or replace at its discretions, parts found to be defective in materials or workmanship.
You will have to discuss whether your history warrants a complete replacement with the folks at the Genius Bar.
I do not speak for Apple, but it sounds to me like you have been unlucky, but not unlucky enough (or have spent so much time with your MacBook in the shop) to warrant a complete replacement.
You have not provided any details of what the faults were or what was replaced. If they replaced the motherboard, you already got a new computer -- because everything except the drive and the display is on that board.

How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Polegate Exchange is now ready for Infinity.

Your site shows that Polegate is now ready for Infinity, but checking my phone line I cannot get it (nor can about 20 of my friends in Polegate as I have put their numbers in your checker).
On your forum you give four reasons why this may be the case.
Your phone line may be connected directly to the telephone exchange and not to a local street cabinet.
Your line may be too far from the local street cabinet to have a stable BT Infinity service.
Your local street cabinet may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
We haven't yet got the council's planning permission to do the necessary work at your local street cabinet
1/My phone line is not connected directly to the exchange.
2/Your new local street cabinet is directly outside my house - approximately 10meters away
3/I have talked to your workmen over the last two months as they installed and commissioned the new cabinet andthey have confirmed that it is for Infinity.
    4/Planning permission was granted.
Are there any other reasons why I cannot get Infinity?
Is there an actual contact number / email address where I can get specific answers about my line?

Hi thanks again for your reply.
Unfortunately I am technophobic and do not understand what p1 or fttc are.
I did manage to follow the link you kindly inserted and the response is as below. I assume from this that I cannot get Infinity.
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 8Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 7Mbps and 8Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 10.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 8Mbps and 12.5Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1Mbps and downstream line speed of 10.5Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 8Mbps and 12.5Mbps.

I couldn't change the billing address for another country!
It was UAE, nowaday I'm living in Brazil. How can I do it?

Your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."

  • Some help with migrating exchange 2010 to exchange 2013 + installing another exchange 2010 to be edge-forefront-proxy server

    Hi guys (and girls)!
Hear me up. The idea is like this:
A friend of mine has currently Exchange 2010 SP3 in his environment with Forefront Protection installed on it. As we all know Forefront Protection is discontinued in Exchange 2013 environment because Exchange 2013 on-premisses is using integrated tool for
doing that, but a friend of mine would really like to stick with Forefront Protection because it is "much better tool" then integrated stuff in 2013.
Ok, so here's the idea. Exchange 2010 SP3 with Forefront is installed on Phisical machine (so, not virtualized) on 2008 r2 std OS. We decided to move to Exchange 2013 because we wanted to achieve DAG on Exchange 2010 but we realized that is not possible
because 2008 R2 STD OS does not support failover-clustering functionality, but you are able to achieve that on newer OS for example 2012? Ok, so we bought another server, where we are planing to install Vmware Esxi and put two virtual machines on it.
One Will be 2012 r2 STD OS with Exchange 2013 on it, the other Will be 2008 r2 STD with Exchange 2010 Edge role + Forefront on it. We are planing to move Exchange 2010 production server to virtual machine Exchange 2013, and newly virtual machine
with Exchange 2010 edge server will only be "a kind of Proxy server with Forefront functionality". What concers me?
Should we install Exchange 2010 edge transport 1st, or Exchange 2013? I think I have read somewhere after you put Exchange 2013 in production you are "unable" to install any previous Exchange versions is that true?
One more question about what happens after you install another Exchange 2010 with Edge role in production enviroment? Does installation effects a production enviroment, let's say we do just a clean installation of Exchange + ran updates?
Which roles do you need to install on Exchange 2010 to achive Edge role? Do you need to have all the roles install for having Edge server (mailbox, hub, cas?).

No it does not as long you don't make any changes on send/receive connector and do the EdgeSubscription. As soon as you do the Edge subscription there will be send/receive connector created, so pay attention how to setup the Edge Server.
Which roles do you need to install on Exchange 2010 to achive Edge role? Do you need to have all the roles install for having Edge server (mailbox, hub, cas?).
Just install the Edge Transport Server and make sure you install ADLDS services.
as you have mentioned you are doing to install both Mailbox and Edge server on the same VMware - it is a single point of failure.
