Changing to jpeg

How to change a 30mb tiff into 30mb jpeg.

Very simply, load it in Photoshop, and 'Save as' choosing JPG.
If the TIFF file has layers, then they will be lost in the JPG.
If the TIFF file is 16 bit, then you'll lose some of the bit depth as JPG only supports 8 bit.
You might also need to think about colour space i.e.  sRGB, Adobe RGB
You can expect the JPG to be in the region of one tenth the size of the TIFF depending on the quality setting you use.  I tend to use 10, which is good enough for just about anything, and if you want ultimate quality, you wouldn't be using JPG anyway.

I edit my RAW photos in Photoschop CS3, save as jpeg then import back into iPhoto 11.  If I add text in Photoshop I can't save as jpeg but as psd.  Is there any way I can change to jpeg in iPhoto?

Yes you can. But you need to flatten it as jpeg doesn't support layers.
While the final JPEG can't have layers, it is not necessary to flatten the original Photoshop file to create a JPEG. There are two ways to make a JPEG while not losing the flexibility of preserving layers, and they both flatten on the fly while saving.
I just tried this in Photoshop CS3 myself. When I add a text layer, and choose Save, the Save As dialog box comes up and defaults to PSD as was described. But... that is just the default! Go ahead and choose JPEG from the Format pop-up menu down below the file list. JPEG is in there. So what happens to the layers? Notice when you choose JPEG, the Layers box grays out and the "As A Copy" box grays out and is checked (i.e. you cannot uncheck it). What is going on here is Photoshop will gladly make a JPEG of your layered file, but it will force the JPEG to be a copy, so as to not overwrite the original layered file. This is good, because your Photoshop file with its editable text layer is preserved, and you get a JPEG copy to put in iPhoto.
The second way is, instead of doing Save or Save As, choose File/Save for Web and Devices. This will also give you a JPEG choice, and also create an exported copy. Because this way makes files for the Web, they will be smaller than JPEGs from Save As because they will lack built-in previews (which you don't really need these days) and other extra metadata that take up space.
Either way you get a JPEG you can toss back into iPhoto.

    Only by exporting.
The Export menu in Photoshop CS3 does not have any direct choices for JPEG.

  • RAW images  change to Jpegs when moved

When I move a folder of Raw files from iPhoto to Canon Image Browser or to a folder in Finder, they change to Jpegs. Is there a way to keep them as Raw CR2 Files when moved. Thanks for any help

No they don't. However it sounds like you're accessing the Jpeg previews that iphoto creates on import. So, how are you trying to "move a folder" of images? There are a couple of ways, depending on what you are trying to do.
    Processing Raw in iPhoto
When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically makes a jpeg Preview of the shot. Why? Because you can't do anything with Raw - can't print it, share it online, use it in other apps etc. So to allow you to use the file immediately the Preview is available.
You can, however, also process the Raw in iPhoto simply by editing it. The Raw processing engine in iPhoto the same one used in Aperture, but with less fine control. (Think of the differences between Word and TextEdit, iMovie and Final Cut). The output from the processing then replaces the preview. You can choose to save your output as either jpeg or tiff in the iPhoto Preferences.
When you are processing Raw in iPhoto you will see the Raw badge on the bottom of the iPhoto Window
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Note: After you have processed a Raw, subsequent edits to the photo are carried out on the processed jpeg (or tiff) not the Raw. If you want to go back to the original then you need to use the Photos -> Reprocess Raw command.
Processing Raw in a 3rd Party Application
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. *But* iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.
ANd, you can always access the Raws simply by exporting with the Kind set to Original

  • I have a nikon 3200 and i took pictures in raw format and now want to change to jpeg format

i have a nikon 3200 and i took pictures in raw format and now want to change to jpeg format

Bridge is just a file browser.  It does not contain any photos inside the application itself.  Bridge will see and display your photos wherever you put them.
You cannot "transfer the edited images to Bridge".  That is wholly nonsensical.  Just use Bridge to navigate to your image files, wherever you put them.

  • Change a jpeg file

how can i change a jpeg document to a word document? or to a document which i can copy & paste?

Well, you can copy & paste JPGs just fine in Leopard, either within Finder or directly inside certain applications. The easiest thing is to just drag and drop the JPG into the application you want to put it in.
If you double-click a JPG on the Desktop, typically it should open in Preview. Once you're looking at it in Preview you can now just push command+c to Copy it to the Clipboard. From there, open the application you want to paste it into and push command+v to Paste the image.
Or, if it's a JPG that's on a website that you're looking at in Safari, just right-click the image and choose Copy Image. Again, this puts the image on the Clipboard, ready for you to Paste into whatever application you want.
If you want to turn a JPG into a PDF, rather than a Word document, just double-click it to open it in Preview, then push command+s to Save, and choose PDF from the list of Formats.

  • How do I change the JPEG image size in PSE-12 when opening from RAW

Switching from PSE-9 to PSE-12. When a JPEG image is opened RAW in PSE-12 the size is 18.72" Wide x 12.48" high 300 DPI. The same image in PSE-9 is 23.4" wide x 15.6" High 240 DPI. How do I get PSE-12 to open the image as in PSE-9?

Uncheck the boxes at the bottom of the dialog Scale styles and resample Image so that only constrain proportions is checked. If you the change the resolution box from 240 to 300 you will get back to your original dimensions.
This is a meaningless thing to do, you still have the exact same number of pixels, you have only changed the metadata number in the file for ppi, and your prints are not affected by this number.
You could also use the same method to change the dimensions to 6 x 4 or 9 x 6 etc.
There are some cases (actually most cases) where you need to CROP the photo to change the dimensions, when the aspect ratio of the original photos is different than the aspect ratio of the final photo; the specific case in 99jon's example is the only case you ever want to change dimensions using Image->Resize->Image Size, where the aspect ratio doesn't change from 6x4 to 9x6 (or 12x8 or 18x12 or ...), and even then, you could do the same thing simply by telling the printer the size you want, you don't really need to do anything in PSE.

  • Changes to Jpeg not Showing in other programs

I made changes to a JPEG using bridge and the raw filter and notice it does not show those changes in other programs. I usually use DNG's and notice that other programs show the image correctly modified, I think there is a new thumbanil embedded. Do changes I make in Bridge using the Camera Raw Function only show in Bridge? Is there a workaround, or a way to show the changed version? I have a ton of JPEGs lately that I noticed show no changes.

Well, that isn't what I do. I guess we all have to develop a workflow that works for us. I treat the downloaded JPEG files as "master" files. I do the adjustments in ACR because, as you say, it's always possible to go back to the original image. So my workflow involves saving copies of the images (not overwriting the original images) in a separate subfolder. Yes, that involves more disk space, but that is how I prefer to work.

  • Will adding keywords or other metadata changes to jpeg cause file to be compressed?

Hi, I've been searching on this for hours and not finding a definitive answer.
Will adding/modifying keywords or metadata (ok if this is two seperate questions)
cause a jpeg file to be compressed again while the changes are saved to disk?
    thanks for any assistance,
    William

Thanks for the reply. I am somewhat clearer on exporting and I understand the non-destructive changes concept for LR.
Maybe a better question would be " Does Lightroom recompress a jpeg when writing to the XMP space in the file?" please correct me if "XMP space" is not he correct term for where keywords are stored.

  • Changing default jpeg compression for Web Gallery files

I have created several web galleries from both Raw and Jpeg files with Iphoto '08 that suffer from serious jpeg compression artifacts. I haven't found any way to change the compression amount to reduce the artifacts. Is there actually a way?

    papasteveo:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There is no way in iPhoto for the user to manage the jpg compression of the web gallery photos. If the option for visitors to download the photos is selected the copy that's uploaded is compressed approximately equivalent to an Photoshop quality setting of 8 or 9 out of 12. The pixel dimensions are the same as the original unless the max dimension in the original exceeds 3054. The the file is resized to 3054 max dimension.
If the gallery is just for viewing the image is resized to 800 x 600 with additional compression.
You could manually replace the file with one that you've prepared but it would be very tedious as each file has it's own folder and the file name is changed to web.jpg (viewing only) or large.jpg (download). You would have to rename each file to be uploaded to the new name and make sure it's placed in the correct folder.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Change format: jpeg to jpg

I need to change the format of some photos from jpeg to jpg; not change the extension, but actually change the format.  It's for work and it has to be changed or it won't upload.

    Chorelle wrote:

    Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG
In computing, JPEG (/ˈdʒeɪpɛɡ/ jay-peg)[1] (seen most often with the .jpg or .jpeg filename extension) is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital images, particularly for those images produced by digital photography. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.
The most common filename extensions for files employing JPEG compression are .jpg and .jpeg, though .jpe, .jfif and .jif are also used. It is also possible for JPEG data to be embedded in other file types – TIFF encoded files often embed a JPEG image as a thumbnail of the main image; and MP3 files can contain a JPEG of cover art, in the ID3v2 tag.
Older DOS-based computers were designed to handle a maximum 3-character file extension which is why JPG was attributed to compressed image files. Modern operating systems can handle longer extensions.

  • Album art. Shown as bitmart. Need to change to jpeg.

    Can anyone help please.
I have a 5th Gen ipod video. Album art shows up as bitmart. I have had a Parrot Mki9200 car kit installed but this shows artwork for one track then on change to the next track Parrot switches itsself off. Reboots then plays the next track without artwork. On to track 3 and artwork reappears. Track 4 powers off again.
According to Parrot artwork should be saved in jpeg format only. I have tried to copy artwork to Paint then convert it to jpeg. Then I copy the jpeg to itunes and it shows it is updating artwork but when I copy the artwork back to my photos to check it out it comes up as bitmart.
    Help!!!!!!!
I am fairly new to all this so if you can help I would be happy if you explain it in the simplist of terms.

  • Removing Camera Raw changes to jpeg

Just upgraded to CS3. I mostly shoot jpegs, but do like being able to edit images in camera raw. My question is: If I make some changes to a jpeg image in camera raw and decide that I want to restore the image to it's original state, what do I do? I know the changes are not saved with the image, but I just want it to be just like the original so I can start from scratch editing in Photoshop.
    Thanks

"Clear Imported Settings" sets all "invisible" controls to their default values. "Invisible" control are controls that the engine supports, but don't have a UI. For example, many of the new Lightroom controls when running in Camera Raw 3.7. If these controls are set using Lightroom, Camera Raw 3.7 will obey them. This command allows the user to remove them if they need to.

  • PDF change to JPEG

Can i change pdf file to jpeg ? what are the steps. thank you

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. iPhoto does'nt support pdf files for importing but Preview will do the job as Terence mentioned.
If you want to get the jpg into iPhoto after converting use the following workflow:
1 - open the pdf in Preview
2 - start to print it but in the Print window click on the PDF button and select the Save PDF to iPhoto option.

  • IPhoto - changing to jpeg

How do I change pictures into jPeg format?
    Thanks, Marianne

If you loaded them into iPhoto as jpeg then they will still be jpeg.
You need to be more specific about what you are trying to do.
Do you have photos in iPhoto?
Do you want jpeg versions of the photos for something?
If you need them for another application then you can select the photos in iPhoto and the select the 'Export' option from the File menu.
In the options there you can select the file type and location for the files to be exported.
REMEMBER - Do not touch the photos store in the iPhoto Library Folder, if you do you will stop iPhoto from working
