Changing track order?

i got itunes 7, played around with it for a bit, and ejected my ipod, to find that one song from each of the albums of the artist I was listenign to had been moved randomly to a different spot in the album order. All these songs have track listings set in the "get info" page. i noticed that the track order would change based on whether i was browsing by artist or by album, which should not happen, and then, after clicking "get info" it would correct itself. Is this a bug? I don't look forward to plugging my ipod back in, and fixing the track orders throug itunes every time I want to play my music through my computer speakers. Also, it seems to "determine gapless playback" for every song on my ipod any time i transfer any music to it. any way i can tell it not to do this..its a very time consuming process... thanks

It looks like you are not the only one. How frustrating.
Here's two posts with the same problem, but no fix.

  • Changing track order in Library

I recently purchased 6 songs from the Bowie "Heroes" album from the iTunes Store. But looking at them in my iTunes Library, the title track had the wrong album information. It said it was from somebody's iMix, and had that person's photo in the artwork. It also had the wrong track number. (For the record, I never accessed this person's iMix, and was very careful about the order that I downloaded the songs.) I went to Get Info and changed everything about the song to the right information. But even though the album and track number is now listed correctly, the song still isn't in the right vertical order in my Library, and consequently, won't play in the right order of the original album. I know I can always make a playlist and change the order there, but I want it to display correctly in the main Library. After all, I didn't create this problem. Any suggestions?

DVDAFTEREDIT (dvdafteredit.com) lets you get more under the hood if you want to clean things up more - helps but not needed.
DVD SP has an abstraction layer which makes things easier to author, but may not be the most effective ccoding, though for many things it is ffine
What I was sayng (borad stroke) is let's say you have a track that has a few scenes and you have a menu that targets scenes in the track or does a play all - the menu to select the scenes or play all would be best to be in the same VTS for thhat track
If you have couple of tracks with the same set up (few scenes and play all) the menus for the respective tracks should be set up the same way

  • Change track order

For some reason when I dowloaded an audio book, the trracks are in the wrong order.  What is the fastest way to get them in the correct order.  The Chapter names are not alphabetical so I would like to click and drag the tracks within an album to change the order of the tracks in my music library?  I don't just want this order on my nano, I want the correct order within the album.  Thansk, Gina  (going into each "Get Info" takes too long.)

View > View Options.  When the View Options box comes up, set "Sort by" to "Manual Order."
Once this is done, you will be able to move songs up or down by drag-n-drop.

  • Changing track order after importing

I am trying to import opera CDs into my iTunes library. Operas usually take up 2 or 3 CDs, and when I try to upload the multiple CDs to my library, iTunes mixes up the order of the tracks so that I can't listen to the opera in order. How do I change the order of the tracks in the iTunes library so that I can listen to the opera in order?

Try this, I found that it works for me. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album by year column. If you like you can then click on Artist, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Track Number>Album>Artist. Make sure the little triangle on the right side of the track number column header is pointing up. In that direction the column is sorted in Ascending order (lowest to highest).

  • Sb CS4 multi-track file how to change track order

I can't figure out how to change the order of the tracks in my multi-track file. Can anybody advise? Thanks.

Thanks for checking. BTW are you using CS4 or CS5? I wonder if that has been added in the new version. I might install the trial version to see.

  • ITunes changes track order when burning discs

When burning a playlist to disc iTunes changes the track order.  I want the disc to have the same track order as my playlist.  How do I do that?

    Jim VanLeeuwen wrote:
How your CD appears in iTunes depends on the column selections. In list view in iTunes, select the column to the left of the track names to see the CD track order. To see the actual order of the tracks on the CD, open the CD in Finder by double-clicking the CD on the desktop. The tracks will be preceded by a number corresponding to their order on the CD and that is the order they should play in your CD player. If you use the Finder's list view, your CD should reflect the order in the playlist you burned it from.
Play the CD in your CD player? Does the order match the original playlist?
Nope, when I put it in my car CD player the tracks are randomized. On the playlist I can put the tracks in the order that I wanted them in and when I burn them iTunes randomizes the order on the cd. I've burned it 4 more times and each time the tracks have been randomized. This is also with a cd that I bought from the ITS. So the playlist is in track order and I even checked the tags and the numbers are in the correct order.

  • Can't change track order for a CD I'm trying to burn - Help! :-/

I'm trying to put together a CD for my girlfriend (yes I know... sappy) but can't seem to change the order. I'm feeling a bit like an idiot because I was able to change them just hours ago but not anymore. I also noticed I can't drag items from other playlists into this one. It's NOT a SmartPlaylist and no I don't have any of the sort headings selected besides the first one (little arrow thingy).
I've read everything I could find in the forums and none of it's helped.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Indeed it is. That is what I meant by "bug."
I've compared my itunes setup to another computer side by side and can't see why it won't work. I've tried restarting the program, the computer, etc but it still won't allow me to drag songs to playlists or reorder them within the playlist.
Did you try the "Add To Playlist" approach that was suggested? That should help you get around the first problem. As a workaround for the second, start a new playlist and add the songs one at a time in the order you want.
    Hope this helps.

  • Changing track order in playlists??

Hello. I will probably sound really silly asking this but it has been a problem for me since i started using iTunes (which was ages ago - ha!). I'm trying to burn a CD from a playlist but would like to change the order of the songs. Is this possible and how?? I remember reading a reply to a query similar to this and it was simply to click the numbered, blank title column and then click and drag. I tried this but it still doesnt work. Im sure its just me missing out on something really obvious but please help because as i said its been an issue for a while. Thanks guys

Normally u should just be able to drag n drop to the place that you want it to be? take the song u want n click n hold, then drag 2 where u want it n there should be a little black arrow/line thingy showing where its going to be put?

  • IPod changes Track Order upon transfer

Okay, so, when I import a new album into iTunes and then transfer it to my iPod, the iPod will not keep the track order, no matter what I do in iTunes beforehand. I make sure that the album is organized by track before transfer, but after I disconnect my iPod, track 5 becomes track 1, and all kinds of craziness. When i connect the iPod to my computer again, I notice that the track numbers are correct (1 of 10 is still 1 of 10) but that they are in the wrong order (1 of 10 follows 5 of 10, which is follwed by 2 of 10). Why does the iPod do this, and how can i fix or stop it?
    Thanks,
    -dan

highlight all of the tracks in the cd *hold shift, click first track* then *hold shift, click last track*
then hold *control, I* set the disc number to "1 of 1" it might work. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Created playlist.  Went to change order of tracks in list.  Cannot move track to change location within the playlist or figure any othe way to accomplish this.

  • HT2455 How to change track order when uploading CD?

When I am uploading a CD into my I-Tunes Library it is coming in alphabeticaly by artist and not in numerical order by track number.
Most CD's this does not make a difference but there are many that have to belitened to in order.  This appplies to Classical and show albums.
How does one re-organize by track number?   1,2,3,etc

You don't need to go to the Gear.
In Finder, simply click any Header Column to sort (or reverse-sort) by that column. Click again on the same Header Column to reverse the sort order. Click on another Header Column to sort by that column instead. I used the Date Modified header column rather than Date Created but it works the same in any header column.
EXAMPLE 1 : sorted by Date Modified, oldest first (Arrow in blue Header Column pointing UP)
EXAMPLE 2:  sorted by Date Modified, newest first (Arrow in Header Column pointing DOWN)

  • Changing track order in DVD outline

How do I do this. My DVD seems to play the same track (not my primary video but an "extra feature video" that I don't care about). I want a different track to be recognized as Track 1.

  • Compilation Track Order

I have a couple albums with different artists (Example: Timbaland Feat. Justin Timberlake). I would like for the albums to appear together in the Album view, but I would also like the track order of the songs to go in order (in Album view you cannot change track order). I have checked the compilations box in the Info for the songs, but it does not stay checked.
Can someone tell me how to get this working correctly? I was able to on my old computer but now I cannot anymore and it frustrating.
    Thanks.

Exactly the same has happened to me since upgrading my OS from XP to Vista Home Premium. Not impressed at all with itunes. I think it is very user unfriendly considering all the hype Apple make about their products. Has anyone any answers on how to fix this problem???

  • How can I change the order of tracks in iTunes?

When I changed the information of certain tracks such as the track title, album name etc. on some of my books on audio (because the information did not import with the audio, except to name them "track 1", "track 2" etc. or I changed the genre or whatever) the order of the tracks were changed in the iTunes lirary and subsequently on the iPod as well. Now of cource the chapters of the books play in an obscure order. Not good for audio books! I tried to "drag and drop" the tracks in the desired order, but that does not seem to work. Next I cleared them from iTunes altogether and sent them to the recycle bin and then restored them. Before I put them back into iTunes (when they were still just a file in a folder and not associated with any particular player) I even alphabetized the titles beginning with "1 of 5", "2 of 5" etc. but now the volumes of books are in different orders. As an example, in the "Left Behind" series by LaHaye and Jenkins now the book Apollyon plays first instead of it's correct order in the series which would be fifth. There must be a simple way to change the order of the way a book in a series of books or tracks of a book plays within iTunes without creating a seperate playlist for every book or series of books this happens to but I'll be darned if I can figure it out. Can someone please help me?

No, iTunes does not put these in order when the top "Album" or "Name" tabs are clicked.
I tried that first of all, but failed to mention it in my original message. I appologize.
For instance, there are twelve books in the left behind series and each book (exept for two of them) has 5 tracks each, the two exceptions have four tracks each.
Using "get Info" and clicking the "Info" tab, all tracks of all books are labeled "Left Behind Series" in the field titled "Album".
On the right side of the dialoge box all tracks associated with the first book are labeled 1 of 12, second book, 2 of 12 and so on in the two boxes marked "Disc Number".
In the two boxes marked "Track Number" each track is labeled 1,2,3,4, or 5 of 5 for the corresponding track.
In the "Name" field for each track I use, for Example, Volume 2, Tribulation Force: Part 1 of 5.
The fourth book in the series is called "Soul Harvest" and is recorded on five rather lengthy tracks. The information for the third track of this book is labeled as follows:
    Track Number: 3 of 5
    Disc Number: 4 of 12
Name: Volume 4, Soul Harvest: Part 3 of 5
Artist: Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins
    Album: Left Behind Series
I am using the latest version of iTunes, Ver:6.0.4.2, for Windows xp. I am resonabaly adept at moving around in the program and was certain that by changing the information as I did, I would not only make the information easier to see and use on my iPod but that the books would finaly play in order as they never have been in proper order before.
For the life of me I can not seem to figure this one out and find myself spending far too much time on this.
