Changing variable values in query navigation

Hello,
We used to use the functionality of a user exit variable for a web template query and could enter a default value for a query, like yesterday's date. This allowed the web template to be presented without a user having to enter variables in order to initially see data. Then either dropdowns or the navigation block objects could be used to navigate the query. To do this the, "Can be changed in query navigation", was set to on. In BI 7.0 this functionality has been removed. Is there a way to provide a default value to a characteristic that can still be changed during query navigation?
According to documentation this functionality has been enhanced with default values in the variables but there does not seem to be a way to enter a non-fixed value and still change it during navigation.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

This can be done by changing the variable to be processed with user exits and changing the user exit for variables to populate the variable value at runtime.

I have a requirement regarding passing variable values to the navigation block. User requirement is first give the selections on the selection screen and then after executign output should display in browser. In the output page we have a navigation block. So when user gives selections those selections should also populate in the navigation block. Your help will be appreciated.

Hi,
if your variable is 'Changeable at Query Navigation' the chosen values will appear in the Navigationblock.
Variables which are 'Not Changeable at Query Navigation'
will not appear.
You can set this Property when you create a Variable.

BEx crashes when changing variable values

Hi all,
We're having a problem with BEx.
It crashes when trying to change variable values.
We've been looking into syslogs and dev logs and so on,
and found that the cpic connection has been disconnected
before the crash. BUT we cannnot find out what is actually
disconnecting the session.
Well, at least F/W wasn' the cause. Have check the logs.
Any ideas? Thx in advance!

Just FYI.
After all, we ended up applying BEx addon patch 9.
The problem about the BEx crash seemed to be fixed in patch 8, but another problem (I heard it was about something to do with report jump function) was not fixed. As a result, we skipped patch 8 and applied 9.
Both problems were fixed in patch 9.

How to change variable values dynamicly in broadcasting

Dear Friends i am scheduling workbooks using broadcasting feature.
i want to know how can i change the variable values of report in broadcasting dynamically.
becuase i dont want to schedule report again and again after changing the variable values.

i did the same but its not working.
i create one variant for the query ABC using RSRT now if i look into table RSRVARIANT we can see that variant
entry in this table. Now i create variant by bex on this query with the same name.
now i schedule it using broadcasting but its not takeing the values of RSRVARIANT table.
Its taking the value of variant which i save in bex.
By default variant which is save in bex not appear in RSRVARIANT table.
But i f you make a variant in RSRT you can see those entries in Table RSRVARIANT.
But RSRT variant is not showing in Broadcast scheduling. Only Bex variant are showing.
Where should create the variant in Workbook, in Bex web analyzer, or in RSRT.

Change variable values in a class without acessing it's methods?

I have the following scenery, a main class with:
-ArrayList of strings.
-Class frame (with textfield and button) supposed to add strings to that Array.
Ok, in main class i set the frame to run, but how to make the frame to change the ArrayList of the main class in a easy way? What is the easiest solution and the best without hurting the paradigm?
1-One solution would be to make a method in frame that returns the string and IN MAIN CLASS add it. But is this too straightforward? Like, if i had to manage 7,8 frames that must acess 7, 8 ArrayLists of main class as well as other frames recursively (Example: main class start running frame 1, then if button1 pressed go to frame 2, if button 2 pressed get textfield and chang ArrayList)
2-Another solution would be to set all ArrayLists as static variables so i can change them freely? Is this a good paradigm?
3-Pass the own main class as parameter throughout the frames? Is it possible? If so please post a 10, 15 line code in which i could do that.
4- Put the main class as mother and all frames as son and put all arraylists as protected?
I feel like im lacking one good paradigm, it should exist some concept in which the created object could change the value of the variable passed as parameter in the class that created it.

I tried to pass a simple variable (a string) as parameter through the constructor to one frame, like any other class.

But it returns a compilation error, maybe is something in it's main method? I didn't change it:

The main class has a 'new TelaLogin' that looks very suspicious. Is it that?

Changing Variable values and saving it across sessions.

I've have an requirement like counting the number of times a form is opened and number of times a button is clicked.For this I tried to use global variables.I tried to increment the value of the variable each time a form is opened or a button is clicked.
opencount.value += 1;
But it didnt work for me.I tried to hardcode a value like
opencount.value = 5;
Even this is also not working.Do I need change any settings or extend rights.Is it possible to save the values that are persistent across the sessions.

I have another apporach using an extras object.
What you is a script object 'Actions' with this script, to create a counter in the extras object in any form object.

Then you need another script, to call the function in the script object and raise the counter, when the form opens.
I used a floating field in a text on a master pager and put this script into its initialize event.

Change Bex Variable Value every time refresh query!

I'm looking for solution at this problem:
1) I've create a formula variable
2) I've assign to this variable a value in EXIT_SAPLRRS0_001 (step 2)
3) When run my query it's OK but the value of my variable is static!!
The problem is to change variable value every time the user change a filter like when do "Select Filter Value"...
How can I do this?

I know step 2 and this step is usefull for the first valorization of variable
but, for example, if I run the query with initial filter and after, in the navigation, I restrict the filter using "Keep Filter Value" on a single value of one characteristic the system doesn't execute the SAP EXIT and variable is the same of the first initial value...
I need a SAP EXIT or anything like it for change Formula Variable Value every time I change any filter during the query navigation.

How to change text variable value in bw3.5 query

include it into some header and you will have
&<your text variable>& - click on the same and a drop down will come asking you to edit or remove the same and choose edit.

Hi ste,
I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve.
The navigation block will display the characteristics and key figure structure from your query / view.
Why are you trying to pass the variable values to it? Are you trying to display what the user has selected to run their report? If so - just used the Text Elements web item and display the values there.

Web report - Variable values while switching between views.

Hi Gurus,
We have a query which has a few variables that are getting populated with default values during query execution[customer exits].
We have added this query to the web.Now there is a date variable which gets populated with the current date value by default.Suppose the users don't vant to run the report for the current date, they are able to change the date in the variable window and execute. But once the report is run, and we try to choose a different vieew for the report, the report automatically gets refreshed with the selected view, but for the default current date value (because of the customer exit).Shouldn't the selected view be getting refreshed with the date values that the user had entered while executing the report?
Also when navigating between the different views, shouldn't a variable window pop up? Is there any setting to have the variable window pop up when navigating between the different views of a web report?
Would appreciate a quick response.

we need to go to Query properties -> interaction tab-> remove reuse variables to populate the variable screen everytime or "Save and reuse variable values" to supress variable window
or
Problem could be due to any personalisation.try this:
One the query is executed, click on the button which says change variable values.
In the variable pop-up screen which comes up click on the personalization button
In the new screen which comes up click on reset personalization button
Enter new variable values and execute the query.

Need to place a variable value at the end of report heading in BI 7

Dear All,
We have to place a variable value at the end of the report heading and the value should get refreshed whenever we change the variable by using "Change Variable Value". I have created a macro and the value will get triggered unless and until we click on any where on a sheet. But, we want to automate this one by using a macro.
Ex: Quarterly TA Host Country Details As Of "Variable Date" Variable is created on TA Date characteristic. User can enter date on Pop up window box at the time of changing a variable TA Date. We need changed date at the end of the Report heading Qua----

No need to use Macro. You can use text variable.
Goto the Query Description and click on the Text variable icon.
Create a text variable of processing type as REPLACEMENT PATH and replace it with the characteristic for which you have a ready for input variable that will be eneter by the user.
This will populate the text variable with the value entered by teh user.
Use this text variabkle along with the Query Description. So your description will look something like REPORT_TITLE&TXT_VAR&

BI 7 list of variable values not shown in chagne variable values option.

In BI7 queries i face a problem like the first time you execute a query it asks for selection options ,then the next time if we want to change the variables we have a option "change variable values" in the menu bar to change it,but unlike BW 3.5 it is not showing the entire list of values it shows only the history or the present values we choose,this restricts from selecting any desired values from the list.
Is there any way to resolve this problem,your suggestions will be really helpful.

After you click on the box in the variable selection screen you will get another window "Select Values for XXXX". In the first box you will have a drop down box which will show "History", Favorites", "Single Values" & "Value rabges". Then in the bottom right there is a button "More" when you click on it it will open to show the selections already made.

We are facing issue with opening a web link with passing a variable value as query string parameter. We have added a form button on the pdf page, on click of it we have opened a web page and we want to pass a variable value in the query string. We can not give the hard code value in querystring, as the value keeps on changing.
Please refer to the images below.
here the data will be my variable name, which contains some value. When i execute it, it passes data as a string, i want to pass its value in the query string parameter. How i can do this?
I had found one more way, is to call a function on the form button click, and in that pass the query string parameter as a variable, it works. But the problem in this case i am faceing is, in the app.launchURL command i have to provide a http path, means something like http://www.google.com, then only it works. I have that page on my local (no server), so i want to add the path as onlu page.html

Thank you for the response. This process that we are looking to do is necessary. We have 400+ OLD PDF forms that currently are printed by our print shop and then manually filled out and scanned into our system. The current process requires a clinician to log into our scanning system, identify a patient chart, and then identify the type of report they are scanning in. This process is time consuming with possibility of errors (wrong chart selected, wrong form, etc.). Plus, we have to stock up to 400 forms at each location.
We don’t have the funds to convert 400+ complex forms into electronic submissions where the form fields are discrete and file accordingly. So, what we have come up with to save costs of a new system and reduce potential errors is to add a barcode to each existing form.
Basically, each form will get a barcode and a javascript function in the onload event to process and parse passed in link parameters.
So when a clinician clicks on a form link in our EMR system the form will load passing in the patient acct. number and form name into the link parameters (all on our local intranet) so it will get embedded into the barcode on the form. They will then print the form fill out the data (or have the patient fill it out) and then drop it in the scanner. Our scanning system will automatically see the barcode and file the form under the correct patient and form folder based on the barcode info. (A scanned image of the form will save to the patient profile).
Ultimately we would like to convert all of these forms to electronic signature/submission but we do not have the funds or the time to do this.

BEx Analyzer Not showing report result in canceling "Change variable Icon"

Hi Experts,
Do we have any settings in BEx Analyzer for retrive the Result set even after I click 'Change variable Icon' in Toolbar and cancel the variable pop-up window??
Eg: My query Result is displayed in Analyzer selecting some vaues in Selection screen.And when I click the Change Variable Icon from 'Analyzer Toolbar' its showing me 'Select values for variable' window.If I select the cancel button in it, then Query result becom blank showing the message "There are variables; change variable values". Do Analyzer having an option or settings to keep the result even if i cancel the variable selection from "change variable icon".

If SAP provides such a function, I have not found it. The way I understand it., the change variable value initiates the OLAP back end. This clears the Presentation Manager front end, and clears the 'results' that are displayed on your workbook. If you cancel the OLAP run, the front end clear still executes.
HOWEVER... if you turn OFF Automatic Refresh before clicking on Change Variable Values and then clicking on Cancel, the presentation manager will not write any changes to your workbook. So that is your best solution.
