Changing View Menu default

In PSE 9, when clicking on File/Open, the dialogue box lists the photo files in a "list" mode.  In the view menu, you can choose between thumbnail, tiles, icon, list and detail.  How does one set the default to "thumbnail" so each time that I go to File/Open, the files appear as thumbnails?  As of now, the default is "list" and I can't change the default opening menu.  Thanks!

In Windows go to Pictures and select a folder and change to thumbnails. Then click Tools >>Folder Options.
Click the view tab, then click the “apply to folders” button.

  • Changing 'View Options' defaults

Is there any way to change the options selected by default when a CD is read in or when a playlist is clicked. I find that I virtually always have to go to the 'View Options' command to enable the 'Composer' field. How can I make this field be displayed automatically?

PS I posted this question already but in the wrong forum -sorry! Is there any way to move a question from one forum to another, if you post it wrong?

What we were referring to is what happens when you create a new folder and bring up View Options: at the top the default that is automatically checked is All Windows. If you unthinkingly set various view options for that folder, without checking the This Window Only, then those options will be applied to all new folders, and all folders that do not already have settings of their own. However, folders that you have at some point selected and checked the This Window option, then set custom view options for it, will be unaffected.
I suspect the problem that you are running into is that folders you have previously worked with will not be changed. Try this:
    1. Create a new folder, bring up View Options, leave the All Windows checked
    2. Run through List view and Icon view and make some settings
    3. Leave the View options window open and then start opening some folders that you are unlikely to have ever opened before
    4. Those that you haven't worked with should show the All Windows box checked, and display your new settings when you change to the various views
    5. Windows you have set before will have the This Window Only box checked, and display whatever options you previously set for them
While this can all be confusing, and frustrating, it works for people who use different options in different folders for different purposes. If you could inadvertantly wipe out all the choices you had made for special purposes with one forgetful moment people would be even more distraught than they are now.
To accomplish what you want leave the settings you want check for All in a new folder. Every time you open a folder that isn't that way, and it has This Window checked, you'll need to change it to your preference. Eventually all the folders you use will be what you want, and all new folders will inherit the All Window settings you have chosen.

  • How do I change Dreamweaver CC default view from split to code?!

In Dreamweaver CC, everytime I edit a .html file it defaults to the split view; I want it to open everything in code view! I have tried EDIT>PREFERENCES>FILE TYPES/EDITORS and added it to the open in code view option. But when I do this there is no option to switch between code-split-design when editing the file. I just want it to open everything into code view by default. I never had this problem with any other version of Dreamweaver and its driving me insane. I am only trying CC but this is a deal breaker for me, I would rather keep using CS6 if I cant get this changed. Please help! Thanks.

This is Adobe. They are too busy adding really obscure features to worry about your ability to control the work interface simply.
    I too have this problem.
I think however, the best way would be for us to exchange lives as I have code view as the default and cant change that.
I think it would be simpler for us to exchange lives then it would be for adobe to fix the problem with their live cloud based software that you cant own and constantly reminds you of that fact by forcing you to register your product again and again.
No point in troubling their development staff who all seem to live in India even though I thought Adobe was a US company.
I hear they are busy with a module that allows people that use SASS and LESS at the same time as Fluid grids to make tea remotly thats dispensed via the USB 3.0 socket of any SkyLake equipped 14nm processor based laptop.
    Im holding my breath.
Meanwhile, i'll send you a letter with my address so you can move to my address and take up my identity and me vice versa. I think the letter will be faster than using this forum as I see this responce has already taken Adobe 2 years to ignore it and not sort it out.

  • I am not able to view the default view of FF 4.0, It is showing menu bar with the windows border. When i turn off menu bar, the strip which should be present above the tabs goes missing.

I have recently downloaded FF 4.0 and using a lot of add-ons. I am not able to view the default view of FF 4.0 with no menu bar. Even after turning off the menu bar from customization, I am able to see only the tabs and FF button, but not the strip over the tabs.

When you hide the menu bar to display the Firefox button, the titlebar (strip above the tabs) is only displayed if the Firefox window is not maximized. If you always want the Window titlebar, you can use the Firefox 4 UI Fixer extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/firefox-4-ui-fixer

  • How do you fix this problem with the View Menu?

Hi. This is my first time on this forum so please forgive me if not worded correctly.
I have recently installed CS5 on Windows 7. I work with large folders of images. When I open the folder the images are spread out with a big gap between each row of images. It is much easier when they are close together especially when I am selecting a large number of images to transfer or copy. If I change the menu view to details and then immediately back to list they display as I want. As soon as I open any folder again they go back to being all spread out.
I thought it may be a Windows problem but I have set it up correctly in Windows Explorer and saved it as that option for all files. They display perfectly on that and also other programs I use where I need to view large amount of images.
Can anyone suggest what the problem may be and how I can fix it? Please see the following screen grabs which will show what I mean.
The top version is how I like the files to look. The bottom version is what I always get in CS5. If you can solve the problem I would be very happy.
    Thanks Carol

What you are seeing is a windows folder option.
In Windows 7 click the start button, choose computer then open your C drive.
From there you will see something similar to this,
Click on the sort options and choose list. Now we need to make it the default so when you look in photoshop it remains as a list.
to  do that from this same window choose tools then folder options.  A new window will pop up called folder options on the second tab called View is an all folders button, this will apply this view to all folders. if you have Photo shop open close it re-open it and how you will always get the view you want.

  • I upgraded from 3.6 and could not get the orange Firefox button but only a grey one with misaligned commands. When I hit View/Menu Bar even this button has vanished and the screen resembles 3.6

I use Win7 on a desktop PC. I upgraded Firefox 3.6 to 4.0. Where there should have been the orange firefox button was a grey button 'Firefox' with a small arrow. on clicking this the commands were there, but not properly aligned. There was also no minimise/maximise/exit buttons on the top right of the screen. I checked 'Help' and found no info. I then turned on View/Menu Bar. The minimise/maximise/exit buttons appeared; the grey button vanished and the screen now resembles FF 3.6. However About tells me that I am using 4.0.
BTW, I also tried various Beta versions in 2010 and abadnoned them because the same problem happened.

The orange Firefox menu button will only appear if the menu bar is hidden.<br />
    Are you using a custom theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes) ?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Changing live trace default setting

    Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone would know how to change illustrators live trace function the from the standard default setting to one of my presets as everytime I run a script, it automatically picks the default setting.
    thanks.

Scott he is correct and even in the Illustrator Preference file there is no mention of the Live trace. It must be some where in one of application support directories or in the packages.
But I would like to suggest that caution should be used when altering the preferences as sometimes the settings are enforced this way to avoid general conflicts and close common or potential avenues of corruption.
That is you might change it and some other software you have installed when launch could read that the wrong way. There are enough times when one has the experience where you have had to trash Illustrators preferences. Inviting new ones might not be the wisest.
Although I agree overwriting the default settings might also do such a thing.
I think this is a good feature request I have tried to create new user define defaults as well and it would be great to have that ability for different work space.
You might try this Nick load your brushes and your trace settings and the go to the View Menu and save that as a New View which you should be able to load in other documents.
As long as you have save your brushes to a brush library and your trace options with its own name, it should properly set.
Or save it as a workspace might work as well?

  • How can I get Thumbnails back in the file View Menu?

My computer died and I had to re-install CS6.  I had originally installed it to an external hard drive expecting that I could just hook up a new computer when the time came and everything would work as before.   Not to be.   I contacted Adobe and got the program re-installed.  Now, when I open a file, I am unable to change the view in the View Menu to 'thumbnail' because 'thumbnail' is no longer an option.  How can I get that option back?
    Thank you.

Are you talking about in the File>Open dialog in photoshop cs6?
Could you post screenshot of what you see?
Windows 7 doesn't have a thumbnail option as windows xp, but you should be able to at least see the jpeg thumbnails without any third party programs.
If you pick Tiles or one of the three Icon options at the top, your not able to see the jpeg thumbnails?

  • Opening windows in column view by default

    Hello all,
I just got a new iMac 24” aluminum a few days ago and have set up all of my apps, defaults etc. I want my windows to always open in column view and have used View Options to set it that way. Each day when I start up though, the windows revert back to Icon View and I have to reset them again. On my old machine I had them opening in column view by default and they always did so. And I remember that there used to be a button at the bottom of the View Options window that, when clicked would keep whatever you set your options to as a default for all windows. That button no longer exists. Possibly somewhere in one of the updates along the way it’s been removed. Anyway, I want to set my windows to always open in column view by default and can find no way to do that anymore. Does anyone know how?
BTW, the new alu 24" is GREAT!!
    Rick

Then there's something wrong with you OS installation. Not really sure if there's an easy fix other than an Archive and Install. But you can try a few things first.
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Delete the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist file.
    3. Create a new user account and log into that account. Does the problem cease?
    4. Boot into safe mode. Does the problem go away?
    5. Use a utility such as TinkerTool System and clean system and user caches.
If none of these have any effect then an Archive and Install may be necessary:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Menu defaults to widescreen in Encore CS4

    Hello all!
I've looked this question up a bunch of different ways on this forum, and haven't seen it asked, so I figured I'd ask it. I am working on a full-screen program for a client, and brought in a full-screen PSD menu. It is in proper 4:3 ratio, with NTSC PAR through Photoshop. When I clicked on it, Encore brought it in as a widescreen menu with black bars on either side. I clicked on 4:3 in the Properties window, but it will not change it to a 4:3 screen. I messed with it for about a day and a half, changing PARs and so on, but it would not let me use the menu as a 4:3, even though it automatically resized to full screen whenever I'd play one of the video clips. I ended up taking the project into CS2, which promptly let me change the menu screen to full size.
Has anyone heard of this problem with CS4, and if so, were you able to fix it? Thanks!
    Brooke

    Hey folks,
Thanks for the responses! I've been out sick the past few days but managed to drag my sorry behind into work today for a few hours. Ok, to answer your collective questions, when I open up one of the library full screen templates, the program does automatically default it to full screen in CS4. For aspect ratio of the menu I was using, it was set to 720x480. I've been using Encore for about five years, and can't for the life of me figure out why it's doing this goofy thing now, when I haven't changed the way I import or the size of the files I'm importing. The PAR was set in Photoshop to DV/NTSC .91. The presets were all set to do a full-screen project, and as I said, the videos themselves go to full-screen just fine, but the menu just won't work for me! Thanks again for your help!
    Brooke
