Changing Where a New Window Opens

Whenever I open Sarfari 3, the window opens flush along the left side of my screen. I reposition the window so it is flush along the right side, close the window (not Safari), then open a new window. Again, the window opens flush on the left.
Does anyone know how to get the window to open in the last position?

I think you have to resize the window after repositioning, using the bottom-right-hand corner of the window control. Then, when you close the window, Safari should remember it.
I finally set a javascript bookmark in the bookmark menu, dragged it to the top of my bookmark list and I use Apple-1 (= command-1) to resize my windows. Here's what I used:
javascript:self.moveTo(0,0);self.resizeTo(1440,screen.availHeight);
The values can be edited to make it work for your situation. In other words, when you "Show All Bookmarks" in a window, you can edit the value "1440" or either of the values "0,0" to bet it positioned exactly as you need. Please post back if you need more specific instructions on any of this.

  • How do I change where a new tab opens?

When I used to open a new tab, it would be a blank page. Now, a new tab opens to the AVG Secure Search page. How can I change it back or change it to, say, the Google search page? Thx.

To change the option in AVG, see second section, "AVG search on newly opened Firefox tabs", of the following page:
I am not an AVG user, therefore I do not know what options are offered in the above. '''''After setting the above''''' to "None" or similar option, if offered, you can install the following and set the options to load whatever page you want to open in a new tab (''Add-ons > Extensions > New TabURL > Options):
    *'''''New TabURL''''' --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/newtaburl/

  • On eBay, when I click "enlarge" for item picture, the new window opens off screen; how can change the default location?

It used to be that when I clicked "enlarge" under the item picture, on items that offer this feature, the new window opened to the left of the screen, which is useful. Now, however, only the left-hand edge of the new window with the enlarged image is visible on the right hand side of my screen and I have to pull it across every time, which gets annoying. I think this started after I created two windows in eBay, one of which was on the right of my screen. Now it seems that the enlarged image window always opens where the second of the two eBay windows was located.
I look forward to your suggestions.
    Thanks, Simon

Ok, I figured it out, I clicked "i don't have device available" and it let me log in to my account.

  • New windows opening behind current one?

I can't seem to find a preference to change where you can have new windows open in front of the current window when you command-click a link...
I'm ready to downgrade from what is turning into a truly annoying experience...

I don't use tabs, they hinder my work...
I turn tabs off.. then command click links to open in new windows.. but the new windows now open behind the current window... which is counter intuitive. the new window should open in front...
I can't seem to find a preference to change it to the way the Safari 2 works...
I think I just need to downgrade Safari.. there's too many irritating "features" in it that can't be turned off..

  • New Window Opening Behind Browser Window

I have produced a page in DW3 for an artist where you click
on a thumbnail and it opens a new window with an enlargement of
that image. (I use the DW3 javascript behaviour to do this).
When I test it on my browsers the windows open in front of
the main browser window and all is hunky dory.
When my client does the same, she claims that some of the
windows open in front of the main browser window but some open
behind the browser window and are obscured. She says she perceives
a "flash" if the new window opens behind the browser window. She is
    using Firefox 2.0.9.17
Has anyone experienced this behaviour and figured out a
    fix?

Usually the user/browser decides where new windows/tabs will
    be opened.
But why open a new window at all? Why not use something like
    Litebox?

  • Why when I click on a link a new window opens instead of a tab, this is new

When I click on a link a new window opens instead of a new tab. This is new. I've gone into tools and checked my settings and nothing changes it. It annoys me.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.<br>
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • New windows open with different toolbars (and missing URL bar)

When I select the "New Window" button or "Open in New Window" from the context menu, a new Firefox window opens - however, the toolbars are completely different from the original open window. Specifically, the URL location bar is missing.
I can add it back, but the change then modifies my original toolbar setup.
More bad behavior: Even if I modify the new window back to the way I wanted it, new windows opened from that window revert back to the modified version, with no location toolbar.

  • New window opens behind existing window - how to modify?

Sometimes when I select another program or function, the new window opens up behind an existing window on the screen.  I know there are ways of getting to the new window, but how can I make W7 operate like earlier Windows in this respect - i.e. always open a new window in the foreground?

This is an OLD POST, but I think I need to contribute my two cents!
In Windows 7, window pop-ups are control by FOREGROUNDFLASHCOUNT and FOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT in the REGISTRY (You need to CLICK ON the START ICON at the leftest of your TASKBAR, and type REGEDIT in the SEARCH PROGRAMS and FILES field).  Go to the REGISTRY
EDITOR and it is at this path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROL PANEL\DESKTOP.
One click on the DESKTOP (Manual Display), and your will see the detail populate at the right side of the REGISTRY EDITOR window.  Go to fine the FOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT, and double click on it.
The EDIT DWORD small window will pop-up.  Change the VALUE DATA to ZERO.
Yes, you must restart your PC in order for the change to apply.
Here is what is telling us in the Windows 7 manual:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc957205.aspx

  • New window opens behind, etc.

I'm running Safari 4.0.5. Several things are happening. I can't launch Safari directly from the dock. The Safari icon on the dock open a finder window with the Safari icon, from which I can launch Safari.
After several minutes of inactivity, the address bar will not accept input. Clicking on the bar moves the bar. I'm lucky if re-launching Safari solves the problem. Then there are the windows. When I click on a link, the new window opens behind the old one. Clicking on the window does not bring it to the front. I have to move the original window out of the way in order to enter text or click on links in the new window. Sometimes, the dock indicates Safari is running, and there is a Safari window open, but not active. Clicking in the window does not make Safari active. Sometimes Safari is active and I want to go to the Finder. Clicking on the desktop does not take me to the Finder.

    HI John,
Move the current Safari icon off the Dock. Just click and drag the icon straight up until it goes "poof".
Now go to your Applications folder and try launching Safari from there. If you can, then you will see a new Safari icon in the Dock. Click that then click: Options/Keep in Dock. or just Keep in Dock.
You may need to reset Safari and empty the cache also.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems...go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • When I open a new tab, a new window opens instead. I have set preferences... doesnt matter. Help please.

Everytime I open a new link from an originalpage a new window opens instead.

    Are that JavaScript links?
You can look at the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction (0)
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.link.open_newwindow (3)
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • New windows open as something ridiculously small. How can I reset default window size?

New windows open in a space the size of a postage stamp. Quite literally. I have to grab them and expand them in order to even use them.

Firefox should remember the size of the last closed window. Once you have stretched it out to the desired size, make it the last window you close. If Firefox stubbornly refuses to remember settings changes, then you might want to consult this article: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Preferences+are+not+saved Preferences are not saved].
    Any luck?

  • Is there any way to have new windows open in a different location besides on top of the current one?

I work with a data entry company and I'd like to have a New Window open on the right side of the screen instead of constantly opening directly on top of the current window (which is about 1/2 the screen on the left). Is there any settings or add-on that will let me do this? I have to do this a lot when I'm working and constantly having to drag the new window to the right so I can see it and work in the window on the left is a pain.

You could try using the Custom Geometry extension and see how that works for you. ''I have been having problems with it on WinXP since Firefox 4.0 was released last year, maybe it will work better for you on Windows7.''
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/custom-geometry/
In Options for that extension setup additional Custom Geometry options ''(height, width, left, & top)'' with different offsets, and when you open an additional window use the drop-marker on the CG toolbar button to select the offset you want for that new window.
That drop-marker menu hasn't been working properly on my PC, but I use still use CG when running multiple Profiles - each with a different offset, so that I have access at the edge of the current window to "grab" another Profile when I want.

  • Using firefox 14.0.1. Loading a link using right-click and "Open Link In New Window", results in new window opening but address bar does not show URL..

Using firefox 14.0.1. Loading a link using right-click and "Open Link In New Window", results in new window opening but address bar does not show URL. However, if I right click on a link and select "Open Link In New Tab", the Tab shows URL in address bar. So it's working when it's a New Tab but not a New Window.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • When a window is open and I try to go to a new bookmark or a link in an existing site, the new window opens behind the old window.

It isn't every time, and sometimes doesn't happen for a long time, then I'll go to a bookmark or toolbar link and the new window opens behind the one I was on. Example: I just opened a second window (CTRL N) and clicked on a bookmark. It opened a new window behind the one I'm on as I type this. I did the same steps again and it opened the new window in front of this one. It doesn't seem to make any difference which site I start from or go to or if I use CTRL N or let the bookmark do the opening.

This can happen if you have a tab open in the main browsing window that uses the plugin-container process (e.g. Flash).
