What files are you trying to change the location of?
Music? Apps? Backups for devices? All iTunes related files?

  • Downloading csv file does not ask for where to store file

Firefox is set to "Always ask me where to save files".
I have a WebService from which to download a download.csv file via a POST request (must be a POST request and not a GET request due to data issues).
I'm using jquery.fileDownload.js in the Website to achieve this. When pressing the download button, the screen 'Opening download.csv' opens with the option 'Save File' preset. After pressing OK, an explorer window should occur to be able to choose the file location. But it is NOT shown. Instead nothing more happens.
    What could be the problem?
P.S.: in other browsers it works fine.

    Hello gnittala,
    thanks for your response.
    1. MIME type is set correctly.
    2. When using this config, the file is downloaded correctly.
Now I found out, what was the problem:
the jquery.fileDownload.js plugin was deleting the internally used iframe too early, so that the explorer window could not be displayed. Keeping the iframe longer (at least until explorer window is shown, or easier reuse it in next download call) solves the problem.

  • Change where Mail stores my email messages

Mail (Mavericks version) seems to be taking a lot of space on my small SSHD boot drive to store my email messages.  I can't find how to change the location to my 2TB HD (which is also internal to my iMac, but not the boot drive).
    Can anyone assist?

That article gets around to talking about it half way through, but you can simply move a single folder in your home directory someplace else and make a link (alias) of it in your home directory.
I already do this with my Mail -- i put my actual Mail folder in an encrypted sparse image, then in my ~/Library i link the moved folder "Mail" to where it sits in the encrypted volume.

  • Change where ITunes stores my art, etc

I have a company computer and an external hard drive connected to it which is mine. My company does not want me to store all songs on their computer and I have not issue with that. I only store Itunes program on the computer because, obviously, you need and operating system to run it. My issue is the Itunes puts all my album art and other data in MYDocuments in MYMusic....WHY? I want everything except the program on the external drive. After I dragged that folder to the external drive and put it in my Itunes folder (in my external drive) and opened Itunes it did not have any songs there. I had to go find the folder and the artwork was all messed up. And then, it started putting artwork again in mymusic folder in mydocuments.....sorry for the long message, can I combine all this data into one folder?

+Itunes puts all my album art and other data in MYDocuments in MYMusic....WHY+
Because that's the way it's designed. But it's easy to change - just consolidate your library to the exHD.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364?viewlocale=en_US
Then move the ITL file to the exHD and use these directions to open it
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.6/en/15502.html
After that, any iTS artwork should get stored on your exHD.

  • HT4946 Is there a way to change where itunes stores its iphone backups?

My primary drive is a small 120gb SSD, and backing up my 64gb 4s is really not an option. I have plenty of storage on other drives on this computer (windows 8) but itunes doesn't seem to give me an option to save my backups to a specific location.
    Am I missing something obvious?

    Relocate iOS device backups
Assuming you're running Windows Vista or later you can use the following steps:
Using Windows Explorer move the current Mobile Sync Backup folder from C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to your chosen location, e.g. as  X:\Backup where <User> is your Windows user name and X: is your preferred drive.
To make iTunes look for the data in the new location open a command prompt by hitting the start button and typing CMD<Enter> in the search box that opens up, then type in this command and press <Enter>
    MkLink /J "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "X:\Backup"
If your external drive has a different letter or you already have a folder called "Backup" then edit "X:\Backup" accordingly.
Anyone still running Windows XP can use Junction (cmd line tool) or NTFSLink (shell ext). In either case move the existing folder to a new location, create an empty folder where the old one used to be, then use one of the tools to get the operating system to link the two together and silently redirect any file operation on the old location through to the new one in a similar fashion to MkLink.
Note that while this method works for iOS device backups it cannot be used to redirect sections of the media library. iTunes will break the connection the first time it tries to write a file to the target folder.

  • Changing How iPhoto stores files

    Hi,
Okay so while i plan on dumping my webmail accounts for a .mac account, im still curious about the answer to this question:
    - Lets say i want to email photos through my university webmail. Lets assume im not using the (unsupported) httpmail extension for mac mail client either . When i get to "upload files" and start browsing my harddrive, the 'photos' directory is a complete mess! All the photos are stored by the date they were saved, instead of say, the album they are in. Which makes it very difficult to find the photos i want to send. Now, obviously one solution to this is - everytime i want to send something via webmail, goto iphoto, select the photos, and then export to some temp folder on the desktop, and then select that folder when uploading, and then delete the temp folder. But this seems like an unecessary extra step. So really im curious if its possible to change how iPhoto handles the storing of files on the HD (I think this is due to my ridiculous Windows behaviors coming out).

    Marjorie,
The titles you give the photos stay within iPhoto. The file name of the image in the Finder stays the same. I don't know about how you have your window views set up, but for me, when I navigate to the iPhoto Library to find a photo after hitting the attach button, I get a preview of each image I highlight. It may be because I have my Finder window set to columns, and in the Finder view (View>show view options) I have "show image preview" checked.

  • Where does iMovie store the individual clips?

I know where iMovie stores the project file (which has all the clips inside it), but where does it put each individual clip itself? I want to edit them using another program, but the only way I can do it for now is by opening the project file and exporting each individual clip.

    Hi Steve
My bet is that it will crach Your project.
I would if satisfied with my editing. Copy back to Camera to TWO new miniDV
tapes. Carefully secure that there is a great overlap - say several minutes.
(Why - errors on miniDV tapes are more common in beginning and end of tape)
Then when ready - delet the movie project and - re-import tapes into a
    new project.
ALL editings will be un-undo-able. So this is a nerve shattering experience.
Alt. Get a big external hard disk !!! Mac Extended - formatted !!!
Mac Exchange / DOS / UNIX formatted WILL NOT do.
And copy the movie project to this for further editings or just to store it.
(I don't use "Empty - trash" in iMovie even if several in this forum says that's
not so destructive as in previous versions of iMovie)
    Yours Bengt W

  • How can I change the location where itunes stores my backup?

I don't know how to change the location were itunes stores my backup and my transfer purchases. I don't have enough memory on the hard driver where the windows is installed. Please help me!!!

Transferred purchases usually get stored in the iTunes Media folder although if your library started life back on iTunes 8 or earlier then apps could be stored within the main iTunes library folder. This post gives an overview of how to restructure your library on a different drive. I can give specific instructions if you tell me more about your current setup.
To change where iTunes stores iOS device backups redirect <Profile>\<AppData>\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to a folder on another drive using NTFSLink (shell ext., might only work on XP) or Junction (cmd line tool). In essence you move the existing folder to a new location, create an empty folder where the old one used to be, then get the operating system to link the two together and silently redirect any file operation on the old location through to the new one.

  • How do you CHANGE the location (away from Drive C) where Firefox stores temporary files?

I know where Firefox stores temporary files. I want to CHANGE this location away from Drive C to decrease writes to an SSD. Thank you.

    Thank you.
This function may be one of the few things that IE does better than Firefox. IE lets you change the temporary file location in Tools - Internet options - Settings. Firefox developers should make this task easier and put the instructions in the Help file where they can be easily found.
Since I use an SSD for Drive C, I have learned that any file(s) that are frequently written to should be moved elsewhere to a conventional HDD.

  • Any way to change the location where itunes stores the backup files?

I am running low on my C: drive in XP. Any way to change the location where itunes stores the backups of my various devices?

i am currently in the same situation. i purchased an external hard drive and set itunes to save to it in the preferences, and this worked, but only for new additions. all of my current music still plays from my mac HD and not the external. i am assuming i will need to re-add every song. the only plus is that when i transferred my songs to the external, it saved my settings. hopefully it saves the play counts.

  • Where does Premiere Elements 8 store files?

I recently bought a new computer and installed Elements 8 on it. I was in the middle of a video project in 7 on my old computer, had a project folder on my D drive with what I thought contained all my photos and captured video. I moved that folder to my new computer and have been able to link up my photos but cannot find the video clips. I went back to my old computer in the the organizer the frames were there with the clip names but it couldn't link to the actual video clip anymore. I've searched everywhere I know, but can't locate them I 've seen the PREV folder but need to find I guess the project folder. I sure don't want to have to recapture all the footage again if at all possible. Any answers to where Elements stores the video??  Lesson learned, don't upgrade / change computers in mid-project.    Thanks

I didn't think PRE does anything with the source video. It stores project details in and under the folder you select when you create a new project. These project files tell PRE what to do with the clips but does not affect the clips themselves.
To see where the source clips are just hold the cursor over a clip in the Organize tab and up it pops with the path details.
    Cheers,

  • Where does PSE store files on a Mac

I just installed PSE 10 on my MacBook. I had been using Iphoto'08 but when I bought a new camera, I wanted something more sophisticated both for organizing my photos and for editing and enhancing them.
So far I installed PSE 10 successfully and have been playing with it. The Organizer works well and does what I want it to do. My intention is to use Organizer for new photos and leave the old ones on Iphoto for now. However, what I cannot work out is where PSE stores the files on the Mac after I work on them. It does not look like they are back in Iphoto as I have made changes to photos that are not reflected in there.
Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Just to clarify: Under normal circumstances the organizer is nothing but a database. It doesn't move/copy/etc anything, just makes a note of where it is. The one exception is when you use the From iPhoto command to import. In that case, organizer makes a duplicate to avoid writing into the iphoto library, which could easily make you lose all your photos.
If you mean you have images in organizer and you want to find their physical location, right-click the image in question, choose Show Properties, and then you should see something like this:
Where you can see the full file path next to the little folder icon.
