Changing Wireless Networks w/o Setup CD

I need to setup my HP Officejet 6000 Wireless Printer on a new wireless network but have not been able to find a method of changing the network SSID and password the printer looks for.  The HP website and User Manual both require that you use the Setup CD that comes with the printer to setup wireless configuration via a USB connection to your computer (MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.3) and I have long since misplaced it.
If you don't have the CD, the HP articles tell you to download the drivers online; however, when I went through the steps for installing the wireless driver and connecting to the printer it assumes that the printer is already on the correct network. The printer does not seem to be equipped to auto-detect the network, use the WPS method, nor does it have a control panel to run a Wireless Setup Wizard. The "Wireless Network Test Report" from my printer shows that it is still trying to connect to the old network SSID as expected and recommends I "run the wireless network setup to configure your HP Printer" - how?
Similarly, I don't have an HP Device Manager or HP Printer Utility on my computer as expected in some of the help articles.
Any advice would be welcome - Thanks!

Thank you for your helpful reply.  I believe I understand how this would circumvent my problem; however, I cannot get the printer to reset the wireless network settings using the button presses you described.
I held down the wireless button (replaces network button on my model) and pressed the resume button 3 times before releasing the wireless button - the printer then prints out the Wireless Network Test Report as if I had soley pressed the wireless button.  I verified that this was the correct way to to reset the network setting in the user's manual (checked method & button diagram - I am using the correct buttons) and retried it multiple times varying hold long I held the buttons down, restarting the printer, etc. and received the same result each time.  The Wireless Network Test Report continues to show the settings for the previous network and the hpsetup network has not appeared in my computer's list of available networks.
Please let me know if you have an idea what I could be doing wrong or suggest another method.  Thank you again for the prompt and useful reply.  (I will likely not be able to respond to any reply before tomorrow evening)

  • Time machine setup - how to change 'wireless network name' and settings?

I have moved laptop to Mountain Lion.
This is the first time to backup to Timecapsule.
I went to Settings then Select Disk and selected existing Time Machine.
It took more than 30 minutes and seemed stuck on 'Preparing ....".
I cancelled and tried to 'Setup Time Capsule not  listed"...
The system recognised the Time Capsule but I see that the network settings is my old 'wireless network' name.
How do I change this to the correct network name and ensure that the settings are correct?
I think if this is corrected, the backup will work.
    Thanks in advance.

On the Home screen of the product control panel, touch the right arrow ( ) to view more options.
    Touch Setup ( ).
    Touch Network .
    Touch Wi-Fi Protected Setup .
    Touch PIN .
Touch Start . The product displays a PIN.
NOTE:The product begins a timer for approximately two minutes to allow you time to enter the PIN on the networking device.
Enter the PIN on the WPS-enabled router or other networking device.

I cannot print documents from my network and I think it it because of network confusion. The test page prints fine so I know I have connection to the printer.  I have two wireless networks in my home and the printer display shows network#2.  I want it to use network #1.  How do I change the network name on my printer display panel?

  • Airport Card won't connect after changing wireless networks

    Hello,
I have a black macbook with an internal airport extreme wireless card. I use the computer at school and at home. Both school and home have functioning wireless networks in which other computers are connected and running with no problems.
When I open my laptop and wake it from sleep after changing from school to home or visa versa the airport card often will not recognize the wireless network. On many occations, even when the network is recognized it will not automatically connect to it (I have it set to do). A message saying "There was an error joining the network" comes up. The only resolution has been to reset the computer (which doesn't always work) or reset the PRAM.
Sometimes after reseting the PRAM the computer doesn't even recognize that I have an airport card installed at all. When this happens I have to reset the PRAM again to resolve it.
As a final note, when the computer doesn't automatically recognize the network and I click on the desktop wireless network icon, I get the "spinning beach ball" for a period of time before the drop down box with the available networks shows up. This seems strange to me because it shouldn't be a RAM issue as I have 2GB of ram installed on this computer.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Try the following:
    Delete Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
    - Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
    - Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    - Restart, or log out then back in.
    Add Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
    - Restart or log out then back in.
If you haven't already, you may want to consider creating a network location for each (school & home) with the appropriate network settings required for connectivity at each. For each location, you can set the preferred network.

  • Arris CM820 - Change Wireless Network Name for Arris CM820

Hi-How do I change the wireless network name for Arris CM820? The support page lists many other kinds of modems but not this one. Thanks. Hardware: Mac OSX 10.9.95

The AirPort Express is exactly what you need, but when you attach it to a cable modem, you need to power cycle the modem to pickup the MAC address of the new device.
I suggest you do a full reset of the AirPort by pressing the reset button on it for over 30 seconds, power down the modem, connect the modem to the AirPort, then power up everything, then use the AirPort utility to configure the AirPort and your wi-fi settings from scratch.  If everything's good, then the LED on the AirPort will be green and you will have connectivity.
One warning, if you have 105 service from Comcast, the Express will limit your speeds to 90 or so as it has a 10/100 WAN / LAN ports.  For 105 speeds and higher you would need a AirPort Extreme.

  • Had to change wireless network, how do i get the required wpa passphrase? 6510 photosmart

    See subject line

The WPA passphrase is set in the wireless router.  The printer itself does not have anything to do with the passphrase, but it does need it to connect to the router.  The passphrase should be the same you used to connect other wireless devices to this new router.
If you have a computer on the wireless network, you can try using the Print and Scan Doctor to retrieve your WPA passphrase.  The provided link has the steps included on how to do this using this tool.
What brand and model is the router?

  • Changing Wireless Networks

Ive moved my Apple TV to a different location, and so now it connects to a new wireless network.
Ive noticed that my iTunes doesn't synch with the Apple TV anymore? -- i would expect it just work as before as its already paired between ATV and iTunes.
I really hope i don't have to remove my ATV from iTunes and re-pair it again..

so long as apple tv can connect to the itunes store and download movie trailers, and the mac can also see the internet, I think the next thing I would try is to ping the apple tv from your mac. Get the IP address of the apple tv from the settings>>about screen and use the network utility on the mac to ping it. I don't think you should need to unpair and re-pair your computer and apple TV.

  • Wireless Network Management with Multiple SSIDs in one Wireless Profile

Could anybody explain me about how Multiple SSIDs in one Wireless Network Name (Network Profile) ? Configuration will be pushed to Windows 7 Pro from Wins Server 2008 R2.
Objective: Multiple office locations will have different SSIDs and when the laptop user travels one location to another, he/she could connect to wireless networks at any offices without any configuration change but utilizing "Automatically use my Windows
logon name and password (and domain if any.)" setting in EAP MSCHAPv2 properties.
    Network Name: Enterprise
    SSIDS: SFO-WIFI, LAX-WIFI,CHI-WIFI,NYC-WIFI,
    Network Type:Access Point
    Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
    Encryption Type: AES
    Network Authentication Method: Microsoft:Protect EAP(PEAP)
My question is: (1) Will Windows try all the SSIDs in order to get connected to the Wireless Network at the office? (Let's say, user is in NYC, but will Windows try to find SFO-WIFI SSID first, wait until time out, retry?, and moves on to LAS-WIFI SSID,
wait until time out, retry?, and moves on to CHI-WIFI and finally tries NYC-WIFI SSID and found the SSID in the beacon from Access Point and authenticates through RADIUS?
    (2) If the answer is YES, what is the waiting time/timeout setting for one SSID before moves on to another?
    (3) If the answer is NO, what is the process to get user connected to NYC-WIFI SSID when he/she is in NYC office within the range of that SSID?

    Hello Ninjago_2224,
About the multiple office location have different SSIDs, does the location A has the signal used in
    location D?
Please go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center
, and then click Manage wireless networks.
The windows will try to connect to these networks in the order listed.
Please check if the four SSID pushed by Windows Server 2008 is listed as mentioned above.
If the location A have the location D SSID and the location D SSID has higher priority, the Windows will connect to
    location D SSID.
So about the question 1, the Windows will try the SSID in order.
About the question 2, I can’t find the accurate time that test one SSID and move to another. But based on my test, it is very fast.
For more information, please take a look at the following article.

  • Why is my Wireless Network so painfuly slow ?!?!?!?! [Im using WRT54G Router]

I have a wireless network/internet connection setup in my house. I have Wireless G Linksys Router sending my 10mb Internet signal to my Laptop PC and G5 Mac, the internet works fine, great speeds on both pc and mac, however...
When i try and transfer files between my mac and pc on the wireless network its painfuly slow [it takes about 5 minutes to transfer a 60mb file]. However when i plug them in together using an ethernet cable the speeds are great and 50mb will transfer in a matter of seconds rather than minutes.
My problem is that having them connected via an ethernet cable is far from practical and i really want to be able to do fast transfers via the wireless network iv setup, this must be possible ?? this why i purchased this router after all !!
If anyone has any idea why the wireless network is so slow or how i could go about sorting it out then please let me know...I cant stress how much it would be apreciated !
Some Relevant Info which might be handy in diagnosing the problem:
    - Im using a Linksys WRT54G Router with the latest firmware
    - My Internet goes from the modem into the Router downstairs which then sends the wireless signal to my pc and mac upstairs
    - Wireless Reciever [airpot extreme card] on mac is wireless G
    - Wireless Reciever [Intel Pro Wireless] on pc is wireless B
    - Transfering from mac to pc or pc to mac makes no difference to speed, its extremley slow for each.
    - Im the only person using the network
    - Im running the latest version of Windows XP and OSX Tiger
    - The Signal Strength when recieving the Internet is Excellent
    - Iv tried disabling any firewalls within the network [on the router/pc] and it makes no difference
PLEASE HELP !!!Message Edited by Altair on 10-08-200608:34 PM

Part of the problem is your wireless B.  This will limit any file transfers to a maximum of 11 Mbps = about 1.1 M byte per second, after allowing for system overhead bits.
Therefore the minimum possible transmission time for a 60 M byte file, through a wireless B, would be about a minute.
Your wired connection runs at 100 Mbps, so the same file would take only about 6 seconds.
This may explain part of your problem.  This is part of the reason your system is taking much more than 6 seconds.  However, I do not know why your system is taking 5 minutes instead of 1 minute.

  • How do I create a wireless network using iMac as base station

How do I set up a wireless network using my iMac as the Base Station and boosting the signal through an Airport Extreme?
Physical connection would be DSL Modem> (ethernet) iMac >(wireless) Airport Extreme (as a wireless router for other Apple products i.e. TV, iPhone, etc.)

How do I set up a wireless network using my iMac as the Base Station and boosting the signal through an Airport Extreme?
Unfortunately, the wireless network that is setup from the iMac cannot be "extended".
Your setup will need to include two Apple routers and look like this:
                                                         > Ethernet to Imac
DSL Modem > Main Apple Router    >>>Wireless to nearby wireless devices
                                                         >>> Wireless to Extending Apple router
You may also connect the iMac to one of the Ethernet ports on the Extending Apple router if you wish

  • HT2497 Airport is not recognizing my wireless network because my wireless network has the same name as another apartment in my builing.  I cannot change the name because my room mate controls it, is there any way I can make it find my wireless network?

It used to be that the other apartment with the same name didn't have theirs password protected so even though only one or the other would show up, I could always get onto one.  Now, they have password protected theirs and it seems to be that 100% of the time only theirs shows up which I only can tell because it says "invalid password" when I try to connect to the Internet.
I have asked my room mate to just change the name of the network but she is really slow to do anything about it and I need to be able to get the internet at home and the internet is in her and set up through her computer so I really don't have any way of being the one to just go in and fix it myself.
Is there any other way to make Airport recognize that there are two different networks with the same way so it will find mine?  I feel like I have tried everything including mannually typing in the name of my network and typing my password and it still just says "invalid password."  I have also double checked that I was typing in the correct password and I am.  My room mate is not having any problems accessing the Internet so I know the problem is not with our connection (she also has a Mac, almost the same model as me, I have a MacBook Pro purchased in 2011).  I am also able to connect to the Internet on my Mac at coffee shops and the library so I know that the problem is not my computer or my wireless connection so I'm pretty sure it is just that Airport is somehow only recognizing one of the two "WLAN" networks
    Any help???!

Hi - you can do what you want to do with AirPlay from your iPhone - but unfortunately it is not as easy as the people in the Apple store told you - your first problem is that you have a non Apple router - you cannot extend a non Apple router wirelessly with the Express - you can only join the network and connect an ethernet device to it - you can however connect via ethernet and have it create a wireless network of its' own - you can set this up from your iPhone or the XP - but this is a complicated setup and would involve many different discussion areas of this forum - therefore I would suggest that you use your 90 days of support and consult directly with Apple to do this - go to this link - http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

  • Changing the network name on my wireless router?

I bought my linksys router a few months ago and did all the setup stuff that day, including changing the network name from the default. I want to change the name to something different, but when I went to the setup address, there was no box in which to put the new network name [I was on the Basic Wireless Settings Tab in the Wireless section]. Help please?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What is the model number of the router?  Access your admin pages again and select wireless tab and then select the MANUAL button.  There you will find what you seek (SSID).

  • Wireless network setup problems [SOLVED]

    Hi!
I'm trying to set up the wireless network here, and have been for the last couple of days. I'm following the Arch Linux Wireless Setup guide http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless_Setup and I've come to the point where I should have a connection, but I don't. I can't get an IP from dhcpcd and setting it to static doesn't help me. Wired network with dhcp works fine, but I can't connect to the router on 192.168.1.1 as stated by my ISP or any other address, I shouldn't have to as the essid and key seems to work but it's suspicious.
Be advised: This is the first time I'm in contact with wireless networking, I've been using wired since the dawn of time.
Running Arch i686 on a Compaq CQ60 laptop
    Router is a Xavi 5258
These are the steps I've made:

    // After installing madwifi:

    # route add default gw 192.168.1.1
// This results in nothing other than breaking all connections until I shut down wlan0.
    I have some thoughts:
Is the key right? How do you know if it's wrong?
Why can't I connect to the router on any of the standard IP:s nor the one given to me by my ISP? Hardware error?
Is my eth0 dhcp connection in some way conflicting? I've tried the whole set up from a fresh boot with the wire disconnected.
Have I confused something in the stage of installing and modprobing madwifi -> ath5k? Seems like the card is supported but I don't know how far into the set up process you can go with an unsupported card.
Heh-heh, that's my post, sorry for the length of it but I don't want to leave something out that could've been useful in troubleshooting.
Thanks in advance for any help, be it simple pointers or complete walkthroughs.
Edit: There was something, somewhere about country codes, but it said it's probably not an issue. Could it cause any trouble? I live in Sweden.

    I solved it!
I had to change my eth0's IP to 192.168.1.2 before I could access the modem!
The key was not at all the one my ISP specified, it was a 10-digit number. NICE.
After I set wlan0 up with that key dhcpcd worked flawlessly and I'm writing this post through my wireless network!
Now, how do I mark the thread as solved?

  • Changing TimeCapsule from main WDS to create wireless network

My timecapsule is set up as main WDS unit, because I had an old Airport Express without 802.11n, so setting up WDS was the only way i could use the Airport express to extend the range of my network. I now have an airport express with 802.11.
How do i change the settings on the timecapusle to create a wireless network, instead of WDS, and then use the airport express 802.11n to extend it? Do i have to deletee the current settings? Do I change them? Do I set it up from scratch?

I would recommend that you start from scratch to set up both AirPort for the 802.11n version of WDS. The following are the basic step-by-step to do so. I would also recommend that you perform a "factory default" reset on both base stations to be sure they are in their "out-of-the-box" configuration. Note: This may not be necessary for the new AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) that you just got, but I would strongly recommend it for the Time Capsule. In addition, this reset will NOT affect anything that is already on the TC's internal or any external drives.
Dynamic WDS - Extending a Wireless Network Setup
If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
Open AirPort Utility, and then, select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then, click Wireless.
Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then, choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
Enter the base station network and base station password if necessary.
Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.
