Changing xterm font changed cursors, reverting font doesn't fix...

I changed my xterm font, adding
xterm*font: -*-terminus-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
to .Xresources, and
xrdb ~/.Xresources
to .xinitrc. I restarted X, and my cursors had changed. This makes no sense to me. Reverting to the default font by removing the lines above doesn't reinstate the default cursors. Help appreciated.

I can't figure out what happened. It seems this cursor is a part of the default cursor theme. But I could swear it wasn't there before and I don't like it.
Tribly wrote:
Usually WMs set the mouse cursor as the default X11 cursor is just a big "X".  If you want, adding the following line to your xinitrc should get a more traditional cursor back, but I'd be curious to find out what's changing it in the first place:
xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr
The command does nothing. The current cursor theme is the default. To answer your other question, firefox is the only graphical app I use at the moment, and it appears over firefox. I get the big X over gimp.
drcouzelis: I have read that page and it doesn't help. As I said, there are no custom cursor themes installed. I can set a custom cursor theme, but can you recommend one that's simple and looks like the default, but without this weird looking pointer?
Edit: Is there a way to edit the picture for one of the cursors of the default theme? Where are the pictures for the default theme even located? They aren't in /usr/share/icons as far as I can tell.

  • Fonts changed to Arabic in the Transformation Values of Smart Cursors

Something wierd has happened in my InDesign CS5. The fonts in the Transformation Values of Smart Cursors have changed to Arabic!!! How to I get them back in English? And can I choose the font?

Gents, no wild goose chasing please
The default font for your documents has nothing to do with the interface font.
The interface font is a modified Myriad Pro, or perhaps its source was Myriad Web, the screen-optimized nephew -- and it's "modified" because it also contains characters for space, en-space, hard return, tab, etc., as well as tons of extra characters to display in the Find and Change box (you may never have noticed this before but the Find/Change edit fields can display an enourmous amount of characters). It probably contains some of the interface graphics as well.
Daniel, why do you think this is Lucida Grande? I can't tell the difference, but here is how the Arabic numerals 0 to 9 appear in my Find/Change dialog:
displayed with ID's "native" font, independent of any selection in the document. Do these match the ones on your screen exactly? If so, ID itself is confused. If not, there must have gone something wrong with your native font in ID. Either way: re-installing InDesign ought to fix it. Peter Spier can point you to the required steps to ensure a clean install, and how to safeguard your personal preferences first.

  • Why does the state of my fonts change from time to time?

Every few days/hours I have to go to FontBook and switch fonts off and on to have FileMaker Pro 5.5 behave properly with greek fields.
I don't understand: if once I've setup my fonts how I want them, why do they change by the next time I fire up FMP 5.5?
In any case, how can I set up my fonts once, and save them in a collection so that the next time a mess occurs I only have to click on the Collection icon and revert to how I want them? Sort of like clicking on a playlist in iTunes. So far, clicking on Collections I have created doesn't affect the on/off state of fonts.
    Many thanks, as always.

    Hi, Alex.
Are you running any "maintenance" software that performs a regular system cache cleaning? If so, that will enable fonts you've disabled. See the "How disabled fonts are handled in Font Book 2.0 under Tiger" section of my "Undoing Font Book" FAQ.
Cache cleaning should not be part of regular maintenance: see my "Maintaining Mac OS X" FAQ. It covers my advice on "regular maintenance" and dispels some common "maintenance myths."
    Good luck!

What do I have to do in creating a Keynote presentation on my MAC so that when I send it to my iPad, I don't have to re-do the presentation all over again as the fonts have changed, sizing has changed and everything is basically a mess?
I have downloaded many of my previous Keynote presentation into my new ipad mini and not ONE has opened properly
Rather defeats the purpose of icloud, synching, Keynote on IOS etc doesn't it?
    Any tips anyone?
    Cheers
    Philip

Thanks for this Gary. Much appreciated. Will help with future ones.
Still a bit like using keynote in 'safe mode' and very limiting.
If anyone produces an 'auto convert' app that will save me the work of fixing existing presentations slide by slide, I'm buying it :-)
    Thanks again

  • Font changing in Outlook 2010

    Hi All,
Weird one here that Prof. Google cannot answer.
I've got a user who uses Outlook 2010 as part of Office 2010 and then getting email from a particular customer the reply font changes from the standard to Sim Sun and sometimes it's just the body of the email and sometimes also the header too.
Does anyone have an idea why this is happening and more importantly, how to stop it?
    Thanks
    Liam

    Hi Aravindhan,
Yes, only from an external recipient, when emailing colleagues the font issue is not apparent.
The font of the inward email is Sim Sun, the font is not being changed at all.
Here is the diagnostics I have carried out so far:-
    Repaired and reinstalled MS Office
Sending and replying internally does not replicate the issue.
checked the Font used by going to FILE>OPTIONS>MAIL>SIGNATURES>FONT, confirms this is not the issue.
Equally the 'stationary' being used is the default MS stationary within Outlook.
Changing the stationary doesn't improve or worsen the issue.
The issue is only present when using HTML as the email format.
I've logged into the users machine as them and not been able to recreate the issue by sending test emails to myself and others.
I have recreated the local user profile on the machine and the issue also persists.
Formats and Regional settings are all US under control panel except for the time zone.
The issue does not show on OWA.
No other user in that office has the issue, the issue doesn't stop the user from working, the user percieves it as not appearing professional hence their concern.

  • Why no redo for font changes?

When adjusting things like font tracking in Keynote, one has to go several layers deep in the Format menu each time, and each time one gets only a tiny change. Thus in such a circumstance, one typically needs to redo this cumbersome process over and over to get a piece of text to look right.
Why doesn’t "Redo" work? In such a circumstance it is grayed out in the Edit menu.
What it should do is apply the same font change again, so that one can shift-cmd-Z as many times as necessary to obtain the desired tracking.
This issue is of course more general than just font tracking - it applies to e.g. font baseline as well.
    Can Apple make this change?
In the mean time, is there a good workaround?

    Fair point.
A work around would be to set styles in the slide Master. That would work for tracking at least once you've got the style established.
Another is to set a keyboard short cut for tighten and loosen in System Preferences.
Open System preferences in and choose Keyboard - keyboard shortcuts
    Add application, other, keynote.
Add one shortcut for tighten and one for loosen.
    etc.
    Hope this helps.

  • Fonts Changing between DW, Safari & FireFox???

So I am experimenting with my new web layout and I have it looking pretty much exactly how I want it in DreamWeaver CS4, but when I preview the page in Safari or FireFox each one changes the font into something different. The font should be Alternate Gothic LT No3 which is what I am using in DW and how it looks in DW and how I built the title block in PS. It reverts to arial in Safari and some sort of Time Roman in FireFox. I have looked through each line of html and cannot figure this one out. Why is this happening?
Here is one of the pages I am having trouble with.

    Why is this happening?
Because whatever font you specify in your web page must be installed on your visitor's computer. If not, and you don't specify an alternative font, the browser reverts to its pre-programmed default font which varies browser by browser.
Alternate Gothic LT No3 is unlikely to be an available font on many computers so those without it won't see it.
    What to do?
    1) Put your font into an image and insert the image on the page - bad idea for many reasons including download times and search engine visibility.
    2) Try a font substitution method: http://thinkclay.com/technology/cufon-sifr-flir
    3) Specify alternative fonts for those who don't have your Alternate Gothic LT No3
    .style1 {font-family: "Alternate Gothic LT No3", Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; }
PS There is no text on http://www.kellendengler.com/10-30-09.html, only images, so the problem is not showing up there.

  • Font changes when pasting between InDesign documents

I'm copying and pasting the content of one InDesign CS5 document into another and am finding that the font of my general body text is changing from Times to Minion Pro.
This occurs with all the following methods:
Copy and Paste multiple text frames
Copy and Paste single text frames
Copy and Paste content of a text frame into a new text frame
Drag and Dropping multiple text frames
I can't see any option in Preferences or Character pallette along the lines of 'Paste Remembers Fonts' (in the same vein as 'Paste Remembers Layers'.
I've change the default font in my existing documents to Times and also changed it with no documents open so all new documents have Times as the default.
I've also changed the Basic Paragraph style font to Times.
The correct paragraph styles already exist in both documents and remain in place when I copy and paste. Fonts for all other paragraph styles (eg headings etc) come across correctly, it's only my main body text that changes, with the font of the style showing as overidden.
Of course, I can simply select all the pasted text and clear the overides but I'd rather solve the problem properly.
One glimmer of hope: If I start another new document since changing the default font for new docs, the copy and paste retains my Times font.
Any thoughts? Can I fix my existing document's bad habit or will I need to start again?

When I paste the text frames, the paragraph styles remain intact but the font changes to the ID default, Minion Pro. When I click the Clear Overides button, the font reverts to the correct font for the style. There are no Character Style issues that are causing this, it seems purely related to the default font setting.
However, I've found a nice simple solution that I should've tried in the first place. Now that I've set the defaults to what I want them to be and tested this with a new document (as mentioned in original post), it was simply a matter of doing a Save As to get those changes to apply to my existing document.
    Thanks for the input everyone.

  • Default font change after upgrade

I'm NOT very technical....Downloaded most recent upgrade (10.6.8 I think)..Font/text and size changed for everything. How do I restore pls.

    Hi, Bob -
Does this also apply to various websites I access?
No - the items I mentioned apply only to Finder views, meaning to items on the Desktop and open folders.
The chosen font and size of font in a browser is controlled from within the browser (as is true for most every program). If you are using Safari, open its Preferences (in the Safari menu in the main menubar), click Appearance in the header. In the new screen you can change the defaults. Howevrer, it is not unusual for a webpage itself to override those settings.
Other programs often (but not always) have similar adjustments available.
Things you can do if webpages and other things remain too small -
    • In most browsers, pressing Command + (Command and the + key, which on the short keyboards is the = key (meaning do not add Shift)) will increase the size of the text displayed on the page. This is a step up function, so subsequent presses will increase it further. To reduce the text size, press Command -
    • You can use Screen Zoom, which is always available by default (it can be turned off in the Mouse pane in System Preferences). To use Screen Zoom you need to have a Magic Mouse; if you do, hold down the Control key and use the finger-gesture for scroll up (stroke away from you). This will enlarge the entire screen display, centered more or less on the location of the cursor. To bring it back, hold down the Control key and use the scroll-down finger-gesture (stroke toward you).
    • You can also activate the Zoom feature in the Universal Access pane in Stsrem Preferences; in that pane click the Seeing item near the top to switch to that page.
    • Check the resolution setting for the display in System Preferences > Displays - it may have got changed from what it should be. What the default is depends on your model, mainly the screen size.

  • Font-changing with RW-file?

Is there any way to use a RW-file to change the font on a single character during import of an xml-file?
The std-font I use doesn't have all the characters I need to present, so I have to use an other font for the greek-characters. Have spent some time with the Structured Application Developer Reference, but have not found any solution yet...
    DagB

Does this question belong in the Structured FM forum?
    If so, I can't answer it .
If the troublesome characters are coming in as uniques, or can be made to do so by R/W rules, then you might be able to use Find/Change to batch change [By pasting] them all to Variables (or to characters with the necessary Character Format applied).
I'd be tempted to buy a more fully populated Unicode font (or use one of the free ones).
    Thread moved to Structured.

  • How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window?

    Hi champs,
Just a simple non-technical question: How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window on Windows 7 desktop?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Did you mean change the Lync: Change the Default Font and Color of Instant Messages just as Edwin said above?
If not, as I know, there is no natural way to change it.
If yes, on the latest version of Lync 2013 client, there is a new option “IM” on Lync client “Options” list. And you need to change the default Font and Color of IM in the interface of “IM”.

  • Report Server 10g - unexpected font change on second page of the report

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with Oracle Report server 10.1.2.3.0.
It's sometimes using an unusual font (It think it looks like a Greek one).
One example would be when a text overflow from page one to the second page it will change from Times New Roman to a "Greek" font and switches from bold to normal font it still happens in the same "Text" type item just on a new page. However when I update the text in the DB to a longer one so it flows through the whole second page to the 3rd page then it's using the correct font again.
When I open the generated PDF file in a text editor I see an unusual value in one of the font settings "/BaseFont /#53#79#6D#62#6F#6C" when I edit it manually to the value taken from another occurrence of the "BaseFont" in the same file it helps and changes the font to the correct one.
When I export the report to the PDF from report builder it's always using the correct font.
The encoded font "/#53#79#6D#62#6F#6C" translates to: "Symbol"
    select CHR(TO_NUMBER('53','xx'))||CHR(TO_NUMBER('79','xx'))||CHR(TO_NUMBER('6D','xx'))||CHR(TO_NUMBER('62','xx'))||CHR(TO_NUMBER('6F','xx'))||CHR(TO_NUMBER('6C','xx')) from dual;
The correct font is as expected "Times-Roman"
I noticed that this happens only when HTML code is allowed in the Text/field. When I generate HTML version of the report I see after the page break and new table on the new page the following tag <font face="symbol">.  When I set Web Setting->"Contains HTML Tags" set to NO then font stays the same even after the page break.
    Did anyone experienced something similar?
    Thank you,
    Palo

We have had this a few times before and there are 2 ways that most likley will fix this.
If on mac close all adobe apps, do a find for all files with the .lst in their file name. Delete all you .lst files, they are font database files that go corrupt and will regenerate themselves when needed and usually a working copy.
    Close any multiple master fonts you have open in fontbook, and other utility such as Suitcase. Multiple master fonts will have a filename like "Kronos mm", and in the adobe illustrator type >> font menu i believe they have a different icon (possibly a mm) than the others {a(type 1), tt(true type), O (opentype)}
Your problem is likely the 1st option, as the mm problem usually happens while editing the file, while the other is after you open the file. If you still have the problem, you then may have 2 different fonts sharing the same FOND ID number. Close as many fonts as you can, especially the one that looks like your wrong font.

  • Is there a way to do a global font change in iWeb '09?

    Hi,
I inherited a web site, created in iWeb '09. I've got the site files on my Mac ... when I start iWeb,
and select a page to edit, it complains:
The following errors occurred while trying to open this page:
    Missing Font TrajanPro-Regular
    Missing Font TrajanPro-Bold
    Missing Font HelveticaNeue-Roman
Many (most or all) pages in the web site need these three fonts.
Thru googling, I know that those three fonts are proprietary fonts that I could purchase.
However, it seems silly to buy and install a font when the web server and end-user's
browser won't have it (and will therefore get substituted at their end).
Therefore, I think that my best choice is to change all uses of those fonts in the web site to
be uses of some "standard web fonts".
So, how do I do a global font change or substitution in iWeb '09? It seems like an awfully
obvious thing to want to do. (Finding each instance of use and manually selecting the text
and doing a font change is simply not feasible.)
(E.g.: Change "HelveticeNeue-Roman" to "Helvetica Regular")
    thanks,
    Stan
