Changing your desktop picture

I've upgraded to 10.4.9 and have noticed that I can't change my desktop picture.
I go to System Prefs>Destop etc and when I get the change box, I could click on a pic, and the desktop behind would change to the pic, but now it doesn't.
I've got a 12" powerbook and after it's update, it can change no problem.
Any ideas?

  • How do I change my Desktop Picture to a solid color?

Hello folks, I'm trying to change my desktop picture to a solid black color in Leopard. How do I do that? I went into the desktop preferences under System Preferences but under solid colors, they do not have black. And I have no idea how to add more colors to the few selections there. Can someone help me out please? Thank you.

That's one idea, they have a solid black .png file on there, and you can either set it as your desktop and tile it, or follow their instructions.

    MOD EDIT:
    Hey everyone
Just to clear up any confusion, this post was originally started with a handy way to upload your own picture to the Spotify Community, and use it as your avatar.
Currently, the only way to have your own image within the Spotify app is by connecting your account to Facebook.
If you'd like to see this feature in the future, make sure you add your Kudos and feedback here.
    Thanks a lot.

For some reason I don't feel like spotify has enough personality as a service. Yeah it has a **bleep** ton of music but not allowing me to create my own profile with background and custom profile image, so i made the switch to beats music. Yeah it doesn't have the music catalog that spotify has but it has personality. The playlists feel more personal and the sentence actually works really well I am still surprised by it. So sorry spotify it doesn't seem like you give a **bleep** about your subscribers. We have been asking you for this one thing for years and it's something that should have been put in day one but whatever partnership you have with **bleep**ty facebook seems more important so whatever. I will take my money somewhere else.

  • How do I change the desktop picture on *all* windows with Lion?

I'm sure I'm just missing a simple setting, but ...  I changed the desktop background to something I found I thought I'd like, using right click/use as desktop background.  Didn't like it.  Went to System prefs to change it, and selected the Pond Reeds pic that comes preloaded with Lion.  Great!  Except it only changed it to that in one workspace.  All the others still have the background I don't like, and going to each workspace, right clicking and choosing "change desktop picture" just shoots me back to the system prefs workspace and doesn't change anything.  What's the right answer   (It's an older MacBook Pro, but running Lion, just upgraded to it a few days ago.)

Thank you!!!  I knew it must be something simple, that I just haven't had time to figure out yet (the day after I upgraded, my son went into the hospital and had to have heart surgery, so I haven't spent a lot of time getting to know Lion.).  Your help is much much appreciated!

  • Changing my desktop picture??

I have tried to change my background on my MacBook Pro to images from the internet by "right clicking" on the image, then going to "use image as desktop picture," but my desktop will not change to this image. Any way to fix this?

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown, then "Preferences" folder.
    Look for these three files.
    com.apple.screensaver.plist
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Right click each  one of those and select " Move To Trash" from the contextual menu.
    Restart the computer.

  • Facebook for webOS - Changing your profile picture

Hello Facebook for webOS developers! Can you advise if the ability to change one's own profile picture will soon become available in upcoming updates to the Facebook app please? Also, the ability to send a direct message as well? I know this can be accomplished via the web version, however it would be much more convenient if it were integrated in the app version as well. Thank you and keep up the awesome work! CujoQ37

  • Can't change desktop pictures(error)

When i try to change pictures on my decktop, error comes out.
i can only see the message "Loading images" but i can't click any button.
Please help me to solve this problem.

    Hello, sounds like maybe this...
OS X: System Preferences stops responding after viewing Desktop & Screen Saver pane
    Products Affected
OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion, iPhoto
    Symptoms
System Preferences may stop responding if you select an iPhoto Event that is no longer available in iPhoto as the source for your desktop picture.
    Resolution
        1.    Quit System Preferences if it's running.

If System Preferences is running but not responding, choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, or right-click its icon on the Dock and choose "Force Quit".
        2.    Open iPhoto.
        3.    Select Events in the Source list (on the left side of the iPhoto window).
        4.    Double-click on any of the events shown. Verify that the name or date of this event is now shown under RECENT in the Source list.
        5.    Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences.
        6.    Click Desktop & Screen Saver, click on Desktop, and verify that you can now select a new desktop picture.

  • Can i not change my desktop to a picture?

i just got this today and im so confused with everything! i just dont understand how anything works..

Anytime you want to change a system preference like this, you can click on the apple in the top left and choose system preferences.
In the first row, you will see desktop and screen saver. Go in there and choose your desktop picture from the default ones or pick one of your own in your iphoto library.
    hope that helps~!

Simply reset your desktop picture. It's not unusual for the plist that saves info gets corrupted and resets to the default setting.

  • Changing desktop pictures locks system preferences

Re MacBook Pro laptop (OS 10.7.5)
Problem: Changing desktop pictures locks System Preferences
If I try to open System Preferences, I get windows for the Change Desktop/Background and the whirling beach ball begins until I go to Activities Monitor to Force Quit System Preferences, which informs me that my "System Preferences is no longer responding."
I have no trouble booting my Mac,
checked my Disk Utility informing me that there are no errors,
    checked Permissions without errors,
went to Users>"my name">Preferences>found the plist for com.apple.systempreferences, moved it to my desktop, tried the Apple System Preferences option with same result. Returned plist .  Hmm, just noticed that I have com.apple.systempreferences with one directly after Library ( i.e., not in any folder), and the other in the Library>Preferences folder. Could that be the foul up?  Perhaps one of these plists is misplaced.
    Any suggestions?

First follow the instructions in this support article.
If an iPhoto or Aperture library is the source of your desktop pictures, it may need to be rebuilt, or you may need to update the application to the latest version.
    Otherwise, continue as below.
    Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
              Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following items to the Desktop, if they exist:
              Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db
              Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the items you moved to the Desktop back where they came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the items.
