Changing your main email address.

Ok so I have a email address that is set as my main email address that I no longer use and I really want to change it to my apple email address but it won't let me. So what can I do.

Hello Sally445,

    Hi Julee09,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You can't change your @icloud.com email address, but you can have up to three email aliases with your account.

  • How do you change your rescue email address if it's wrong and you need to update your security questions for your Apple I'D?

When downloading apps I am asked for my apple ID which works but I can't get past the security questions. Then when I ask to reset the questions it sends an email to a rescue email address that no longer exists. Does anybody know where I can reset this email address?

On your computer or safari on your iOS device navigate to:
              For Canada - https://appleid.apple.com/ca.
              For United States - https://appleid.apple.com/us/.
Click the "Manage your Apple ID" button, and sign in to your iCloud account.  Once in, on the left side select "Password and Security", and this will populate our options on the right side.  You should see an option to reset your security questions.
Also see this article - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312.
If for any reason you can not reset these security questions, or get an error, then you may need to contact Apple directly at 1 800 692 7753.  Explain the issue, and they can get your to a "Account Security" agent, who will be able to verify your identity, and assist in resetting the security questions.

  • I'm back! How to change main email address and make i WORK?!

Okay, so i got my mail app. back ( thanks guys! you know who you are!) But, I had tried to change the email address to my last one, which didn't work. So now that I have a .mac account, I'd like to know...how can I change my main email address to a .mac account ( I think i know how to, but i was wondering what i should change everything to ie. when it says outgoing mail server...what do it put) Thanks guys! I know someone will know...you guys are like....REALLY SMART!!
    haha Thanks!

Is your main email account/address provided by your internet service provider used for connecting to the internet and is this email account still active?
If so, you need to create this account in Mail and must know the account type - POP or IMAP, the incoming and outgoing mail server settings, the user name format - usually the portion of your email address in front of the @ sign only but with some providers the user name is the entire email address. You can get this information from the email account provider for the account.
You can't change your main email address to a .Mac account if not provided by .Mac.

  • How do I change my iCloud email address? Do I need to create a whole new account?

I have an icloud email address, it isn't very professional and I would like to change it to something more professional like my name @icloud.com

Once created, you can't change your main email address, short of creating a new iCloud account.  What you can do, however, is create and alias address to use that will receive email in the same iCloud inbox.  This explains how to do this on icloud.com: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a.

  • I think I need to change my primary email address

Hi, I am a newbie on here, not awfully techy minded but have struggled my way to this forum as I cannot make sense of the BT help.
I get huge amounts of spam emails usually via mailerdemon that despite setting to spam still get into my inbox.  A lot go straight into my spam.  They all seem to relate to cameras and sales and they started when I ordered a remote control ages ago from what was probably a less than reputable company.  Sometimes these up are to 20 or more all sent at the same time. and from all different addresses.   I could tolerate this, it was a nuisance especially when addressing emails all these recipients come up when I type in the first letter or two of a contact but when I got into work this morning, I found an email that I defintely hadn't sent at 4.20 am this moring (I was tucked up in bed) asking how I was and giving a lucky link.  Embarassing as it had somehow apparently come from my home email address and had been sent to a lot of people I had emailed in the last couple of weeks  but not everyone in my contact book and also sent to some old defunct contacts that I haven't sent to for ages.
So now I've got to do something.
Thinking about it, I had to challenge a credit card transaction a while ago, and could only prove against the company because the IP address they said my email address had come from was not mine.
I have Bullguard installed on my computer, I thought that would stop this sort of thing?
So here's what I want to do.
Change the password on my current by yahoo email account.
Change the email address of the primary account holder (me).
Make sure the old email address is closed.
And make sure that in future I use sub accounts for all non important emails.
What is the quick and easy guide please to changing the main email address and closing the old one.
Will I lose a sub account I already have (my son's).
And what should you use your main email account for only?
Any other advice? When I did speak to someone from BT they just wanted me to set up a new sub account, but I don't think that willl solve the problem.
I really would appreciate your thoughts.

  • I have changed my apple email address and icloud is asking me to sign in under my old email then saying my password is incorrect how can i change it pls

I have changed my apple id but when i try to log into icloud etc it lists my old id therefore my password is wrong as there is no such account now, how do i change this to show my new id and get into my account

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

If the old ID ("email address") is your ID, and if your new ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. how do i change my icloud email address from the one i already have input?

    Hi sparkie,
You cannot change your iCloud email address. It is an @me.com address, and is associated specifically with that iCloud account. If you want a different @me address assigned, you have to delete the current iCloud account and set up a new one.
Here is a link with all the support information for iCloud:

  • How do I change my iCloud email address as it is different to my Apple ID which I recently changed?

I recently changed my Apple ID password however it didn't allow me to change my iCloud email address either so they are both different and I can no longer sign into iCloud, what shall I do to change the email address on my iCloud to the same as my Apple ID one?

You have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. • Can I change my iCloud email address and keep all of my music, apps, files and mail in the cloud and on all of my devices?

Ok, so here's the deal. I want to change my iCloud email address. Ultimately I want to keep the same Apple ID and simply edit the part before the '@icloud.com'. If this is not possible, can I make a new Apple ID and transfer all of music, apps, files, and mail to the new Apple ID and all of my other devices?
                        Thanks in advance, Scotty P.

You cannot change your iCloud email address but you can setup a new alias: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a
You cannot transfer purchases from one AppleID to another.
