How can I change my apple ID on my iPhone 5 for my iCloud account information?

I tried this but it requires the password for the old account and I don't have it. If I ask to reset the password for the old account, it changes the password for the new account and not the old account.

Went to Settings where?
If you want to use your exisiting Apple ID on your iPad, you need to:
1. Go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and sign out the new ID, and then sign on the old one
2. Go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and delete the iCloud account, and the sign back onto iCloud using the old ID
You still have not indindated why you are saying that using your old ID originally "didn't work". What do you mean by that? Did you get some sort of error when you tried to sign on with your exisiting Apple ID?

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

If you don't receive a reset email or you don't have a rescue address, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your account/security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

They should have one in Stock, but you never know. Call your Apple Store and tell them you have an iPhone 5 color and GB, and that you most likely will need a replacement, do they have any in Stock. If yes, go in, if not ask for advice on how to handle your problem.

Turn off iCloud completely
Depending on whether you want to stop using iCloud on all or only some devices, do one or more of the following:

How can I change my Apple ID in my iPhone for everything.. Not just for iTunes. When I use my iPhone anything related to Photo Stream it asks me with my old Apple ID. I've changed it and it worked for everything except for Photo stream

If the old ID ("user name") is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

If you're trying to change the iCloud ID on your phone, you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're running iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.

Log in difficulties for icloud acct set up for a child

I set up an icloud acct for my under-13 child -- so that we can use Family Sharing. Thought it was successful, but now can't login or retrieve pw. Think maybe I miss-keyed the bday -who knows - but is there a way to retrieve it? Won't accept my or my daughter's bday in order to get to security ?s. It sounds like you are trying to reet the password for your childs account but the email doesn't seem to be coming through. It should come to the email that was setup for them to use, and if you check that and still don't see it, you should use the information in the following article to help locate it, named:

Settings>iCloud...turn everything off here, including Find My Phone. For Contacts, Calendars, Notes, etc. you'll be prompted to keep the data on the phone, or delete it. Select keep. Then, turn off iMessage & FaceTime. Then, delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Now, set everything back up using your new ID, then turn both iMessage & FaceTime back on, after you've setup the iCloud account.

Purchased new iphone 5s, installed with itunes restoring backup from iphone 4 (which was too old a backup). It restored an old apple id (which i do not use anymore) in the iCloud settings while having my new Apple Id in the Itunes & App Store. The Apple ID exists. The email address you used to create it may not, but the Apple ID does. Call AppleCare and ask to speak to someone in account security.
