  • How can we find the hostname of the devices connected with the interfaces of switch?

    how can we find the hostname of the devices connected with the interfaces of switch ? I have tried mac address and ARP, there are lot of servers connected with the switch having multiples LAN cards. So mac table shows the mac of physical machine as well as virtual machines. But i want to know only the physical machines. Is there any other method to find out the IP address, hostname of the physical machines only?

    Hello Leo Laohoo
    Thanks for this information
    In our network most of the Servers are not of Cisco. Some of them are Vmware machines, some are Hyper V machines, etc.
    Does IP device tracking show us only the IP addresses of the Physical Machines of the Vmware Server not of Virtual Machines?

  • If changing the hostname of the Audit Vault Server version 12.1.2 please wait until the system reboots automatically.

    Hi everyone
    when changing the hostname of an AV Server in the newly released version 12.1.2, it can take up to 10 minutes from the time a user click ok on the pop-up message "Are you sure you want to reboot the Audit Vault Server for the changes to take affect" to the system actually shutting down for the reboot. The machine must not be manually rebooted as this will cause errors.
    Some background information was provided by one of Oracle's developers for this product:
    AVDF 12.1.2.0.0 uses Oracle Grid in Restart Configuration. This is needed to leverage the ASM infrastructure to create diskgroups etc. So, when a hostname of a system is changed, the entire Grid stack needs to be re-configured to work under the new hostname. This re-configuration is needed because Grid creates a lot of directories with the hostname in them and when the hostname is changed, it tries to look for critical configuration files under this new "hostname" and of course, they would not be present. Hence, when we change the hostname, an entire re-configuration of the Clusterware is attempted, at which point a new set of directories with the new hostname will be created by the Grid software.
    This reconfiguration operation may take a few minutes to several minutes depending on the hardware/resource specs. This is because re-configuration of the Clusterware stack is a heavy-weight operation and takes time (It needs to shutdown all the CRS services and re-configure them and bring them back up). Hence, the long duration it takes before re-boot. You *MUST NOT* reboot it manually before the system automatically reboots -- otherwise the re-configuration operation will only be half-done. The chances of this re-configuration operation failing is very, very minimal (based on our tests). So, given enough time it _WILL_ complete eventually and the system _WILL_ automatically reboot. You just need to wait for it to happen.
    Hope this will avoid any issues,
    greetings,
    Harm ten Napel

    I may add it was my personal impatience that lead to this discovery: I was re-imaging my virtualbox install with the new 12.1.2 version (for testing purposes) and I want my AV server to be called 'auditvault', when it appeared nothing was happening (but there was) I rebooted the system manually with said results...

  • RMAN to disk script - how to get the hostname into the directory?

    I see you can get the Oracle SID in there but how to get the hostname?
    We have a NFS device where the directory is
    /backups/<hostname>/rman
    Ideas?
    This is not a unix script, ideally its run thru OEM.

    You never mentioned a version.
    Version is always important.
    From 9i and higher you don't need to allocate a channel, and you can CONFIGURE the default channels.
    You can also include a format specifier in the configuration command.
    This needs to be done only once.
    Apart from that: with that number of databases one would probably create a catalog and work with stored scripts, which can be called from a generic RMAN job.
    Stating 'it isn't possible' is too early, especially as you are scarce on information.

  • CSA MC 6 - How can I create an SSL Certificate that points to a name other than the hostname?

    I have just installed CSA MC 6.0.2.  My company has a bunch of customer's that are on different domains.  We are all linked through VPN tunnels and would like to have all the agents point to a specific URL for updates rather than the hostname of the machine.
    FQDN:                    testserver.abc123.internal
    URL:                       thisserver.abc123.com
    We already have everything setup so that the clients can reach thisserver.abc123.com but I need to create a certificate with this name without changing the server's hostname.  We also don't wnat update their host files.  Any ideas?
    If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it as we're looking to start upgrading the agents on all servers ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Cory

    What about putting the CSAMC in your DMZ and allowing those ports through your firewall?
    The nice thing is it allows hosts to communicate with the MC no matter where they are.
    You'd have to open up 80 to the MC for software updates but we haven't had any problems in 6 years with that setup.

  • Why AP can not modify the hostname

                 Modify the hostname of the AP, but the tips below in the WLC WEB

    The error message is telling you that on your High Availability tab you have an IP Address in the Primary/Secondary/Tertiary section but do not have a WLC hostname there.    High Availability is done by WLC Name with the IP Address Optional.    The only way you'll be able to make a GUI modification (change the AP name for example) will be AFTER you fix the error [remove the ip address in the HA section, or add the WLC name like is required for a valid HA config).

  • After change the hostname oracle is not available

    i changed the hostname of the server.after restarting the server.i try to login as sysdba but i recived the message oracle not available.It is an oracle 8i database.I anybody aware of this problem.please replay as early as possible
    Regards
    Senthil

    Try to start the related oracle service and feedback the output.
    When changing the hostname database itself shouldn't be affected by this change, but connectivity files are, so verify the listener status and make sure you have changed hostname references too at the listener.ora file.

  • Mail Server presents the hostname, instead of the domain name.

    Either I'm really dumb or perhaps Mac OSX Server wasn't the right choice for this - please tell me that I'm dumb...
    So, I've gotten a domain for our school, and also gotten my ISP to setup PTR Records. MX records are set correctly for the new domain (set to an A record), and all is working well, according to "nslookup" and "dig".
    But! Why are all our mails defaulting to the hostname? At install time, I called my server leopard.example.com. When my MBP was connected via Directory Utility, it set Mail up automatically, and also showed that domain is example.com / leopard.example.com, but for I get email addresses of [email protected], not [email protected] - so Digging around, it looks like either I can change it from WGM or I need to delete the information from Mail client and then reset everything.
    So the problem now is that since I've only added the MX for only example.com, it fails when someone recieves and email from leopard.example.com! (ofcourse!, since there is no MX records for this!)
    So, is there a better way to do this? or a patch for this? It just seems ridiculous that we need to go and modify couple of hundred Mail clients to change their email addresses back, or modify each entry in WGM to get this changed.
    Any comments are more than welcome, but I just feel so dumb at the moment! - Luckily I have my Linux host still running at the moment...

    Solved it by doing it manually in advanced mode.
    Basically, when I changed the entire OD to come up with the Kerbero Realm of dc=example,dc=com, Mail automatically picked up example.com instead - even though the DNS was set to server.example.com. (looking up the changeip -checkhostname). So, it's imperative that when you actually set up the server, you just set the hostname as the domain instead and that seem to have solved the problem for now.
    It is kinda flakey, the fact that Apple didn't seem to have taken into consideration that ppl would need something like this, even in the Standard Configuration feature.
    Frank.

  • How to resolve the hostname by ipaddress of the service like ftp, smtp..?

    Hi,
    Can someone help me in identifying the hostname of the machine thru ftp or smpt address, assuming I have this application running in a LAN where these services are existing.
    I tried using gethostbyname by passing each of the computername in the LAN . What I get is hostent struct, but when I tried to match the ftp address with the address returned by hostent I doesnt match.
    I have not yet tried using gethostbyaddr, I think this may not work because the address that it expects there is the IPaddress of the machine but not the service IP address such as ftp address.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Changing hostnames in a portal environment

    Anyone know how difficult it is to change all the hostnames in a portal environment once everything is up and running? What files need to change? Anything embedded in the db or db changes that have to be made?

    I am certain there are some hostname entries that are written to the DB but I don't have a comprehensive list of all the entries and certainly don't have a list of the corresponding DB fields. A good place to get a sense of what may need to change is by searching the PTE files that were originally imported after the install for the various machine names. Another technique that may help identify the places that need to change may be to do an Advanced Search to locate all the Remote Servers and to make sure their names are accurate. Another place would be to make sure the Portal URL Manager settings under the Portal Settings utility in the Portal's Administration tab is accurate.
    Of course there are probably a fair number of configuration files that need to change too but simple searching should be able to handle much of that.
    Good luck.

  • How can i use the ACL file to control the access from the other website?

    Hello all~
    My Sun one is 6.1 sp3 on Windows 2003 SE, and I am try to use the ACL file to control the access.
    My ACL file is below:
    version 3.0;
    acl "path=my_path_on_HD";
    deny absolute (all)
    (user = "anyone") and
    (dns = "*.my_site.com");
    deny absolute (all)
    (user = "anyone") and
    (dns = "*.other_site.net");
    Once I add the "deny", anyone include my site is decline for vist the path specify in the ACL file. But if remove the "deny", everyone include other one's website can access the file.
    Can anybody tell me how to make it work?

    I think you've misunderstood what the dns attribute is for. The dns attribute returns the hostname of the client accessing your website, not the hostname of the website that linked to your website.
    For example, when someone using the Comcast ISP goes to a malicious website at example.com that loads images from your website at www.amigoo.net, the dns attribute will be something like "c-1-2-3-4.ca.comcast.net", not "example.com". ACLs are used for authentication and authorization of clients (not the websites those clients chose to visit), and they don't provide the functionality you're looking for.
    If I understand correctly, you want to prevent websites other than amigoo.net from linking to files in your d:/webserver/imat/pics_upload directory. You can achieve this adding the following lines to your obj.conf configuration file:
    <Object ppath="d:/webserver/imat/pics_upload/*">
    <Client referer="*~*amigoo.net">
    PathCheck fn="deny-existence"
    </Client>
    </Object>

  • Getting the name of the host that the forms server is running on?

    Hi
    I have a very simple question, but can't find a simple answer at the moment.
    Is there something like GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY within forms 10g that I can use to return the hostname of the machine that the form is running on (i.e. the name of the application server).
    I know that I could use one of the calls to query an appropriate environment variable (COMPUTERNAME on Windows or HOSTNAME on UNIX), but would rather have something that is platform independent if possible.
    Does such a call exist?
    Thanks
    Steve

    If you looked up the "weblogic.management.adminhome",
    home.getMBeanServer() returns the Admin server's mbean server, and
    remoteMBeanServer.getServerName() returns the admin server name... :-)

    I don't follow your reply...
    In the weblogic example for creating connection pools, I first must get the mBean
    Home interface and then call getAdminServer. But must pass the name of the admin
    server, which I don't have. So when you say ServerMBean, are you talking about
    the Managed Server MBean? It can have a different name than the Admin Server.
