Chaning the Logical network of a VM network

I have 3 x 2012 R2 hyper-V hosts in the same data centre.
They are stand-alone and some virtual machines use Hyper-V replica.
Each host has 4 NICs, 1 for management (not available to Hyper-V), 1 for "external" services (physically plugged into DMZ switch) and 2 for internal services.
In SCVMM, under the "VM Networks" node, I can see External, Internal1 and Internal2, each are associated with a logical network that auto-created by SCVMM.
I would simply like to use "External" and "internal" as my logical networks. I have created these logical networks, associated the IP ranges, but am unable to change association in the "VM networks" area.
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks.

Hi Sir,
Yes , you can not change that association in "VM networks" .
I would suggest you to refer to following article regarding " Configure NIC teaming using VMM ":
http://blogs.technet.com/b/privatecloud/archive/2013/04/03/configure-nic-teaming-and-qos-with-vmm-2012-sp1-by-kristian-nese.aspx
It will help you understanding the function of common "network configuration" part  .

  • Logical Network not showing up in Cloud Settings

In my SCVMM environment, I had the default Logical Network that gets added as soon as you add a cluster or host into it. Since, I wanted more Networks like DMZ Network and Networks based on Departments, I went ahead and created those in the Logical Network
and defined IP Pools in it so that When I provision a Virtual Machine through Windows Azure Pack, Users can be see all the Networks.
I am facing a problem when I try to add the Logical Networks in the Cloud.  I am only seeing the default Logical Network and unable to see the Logical Networks that I created manually?  What could be the reason?  How can I troubleshoot it?

I don't know if they have been uploaded or matched.  I did see the tracks on my phone of the new album I imported into my computer.  So I think some syncing has ocurred.  But there is no download button on my phone like there is for other tracks I have uploaded.  All the tracks are greyed out and I can't play them on my phone?  Any ideas?

  • Logical Network question

I created a logical network on one of my OVS 3.1 servers, but I'm not sure how to use it. I already have a standard network created for my VMs but I thought that I could use a logical network for the VMs on one physical server to all talk to each other more efficiently. I just don't know how to make that actually happen.
After I created the logical network my VMs on that server all created an eth1 device. I haven't done anything to further configure eth1 on those VMs and I'm not sure what I should do. Has anyone used a logical network in OVS effectively?
Here's an example of the ifconfig output for eth1 on one of my VMs:
    eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:21:F6:AA:00:19
    inet6 addr: fe80::221:f6ff:feaa:19/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:100 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:27 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
    RX bytes:6600 (6.4 KiB) TX bytes:5927 (5.7 KiB)

My understanding is that you would go into Networking, and select the network where these servers all exist... and remove the VM role from that project. Then you can add these servers to the new network.
But you may not be able to do that with the servers up.

  • Logical network advice

    Hello Guys
I have recently installed scvmm 2012 r2 and would like to manage a few hyper-v hosts etc...However since installing i have realised that i may have a problem setting up the logical networks. Let me explain. Currently our department shares a large network
with other units with the overall dhcp and dns structure being outside my direct control. for example, we get assigned an ip based on the mac of the vm, client or server. now this has implication when it comes to creating the ip pools etc...in vmm, since i
dont want to have it assign ip's to machines that have already been assigned ip's by the main dhcp pool (i.e. want to avoid conflicts).
is there a way in which i could still make use of scvmm in this case?

    Hi

  • Logical Network issue

I am using SCVMM in windows 2012 R2 standard and Hyper-V role enabled in Windows 2008 R2 sp2.
I've created logical netwok in VMM but here it is not deploying the local switch in hyper-v, I need some assistance on logical network communication between vmm & hyper-v.

It's hard to tell where you are in the jungle of configuration here, but I would recommend you to read the following whitepaper which covers the entire setup of the logical network/logical switch deployment to the hosts:
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Hybrid-Cloud-with-NVGRE-aa6e1e9a
I did also do this session at TechEd last year, showing how this should be deployed from the ground up:
    http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/TechEd/Europe/2014/CDP-B327
And last but not least, here's a Powershell script (purely demo based, unpolished, ripped rout out of an open - ongoing editing ISE session :-) ) that shows how these things are related to eachother:

  • Logical Network - Cloud

I have a defined a Logical Network and have added a Site into it. Also, I added a pool of IP Addresses as well so that whenever a Virtual Machine is being made through VM Templates, IP Address is available for it.
I am unable to see this Logical Network in the Cloud.  There are currently two Logical Networks, default one and the one that I created.  I can only see the default Logical Network in the Cloud and cannot see the Logical Network that I created.  What
    could I be Missing?

The logical network(s) are associated with host groups, so ensure that they are associated with the host group(s) you have added to your cloud, or else they won't be visible.

  • Removal of Virtual Switch Logical Networks

    Hi,
I've recently managed to get SCVMM 2012 R2 up and running and it's currently managing 2 hosts in a cluster. I've migrated both hosts onto a logical switch, and I'm now at the stage where I'm ready to delete the LN's created for the per-host switches. I've
deleted the Virtual Switches and deleted the VM Networks associated with the switches successfully, but when I go to delete the LN's associated with the Virtual Switches, I get a 25100 error.
In dependencies, it shows that each LN has one of the hosts as a dependency but when I log into the hosts, there's nothing to indicate that they're in use. Is there any way to fix this or do I need to manually delete them from the database?
    Cheers,
    Ed

    Hi Sir,
    >>In dependencies, it shows that each LN has one of the hosts as a dependency
    If you mean this :
Please open the hosts' properties then check the hardware option and uncheck the "logical network connectivity":

  • Partitioning a Logical Network

    Hi,
I created a logical network with 60,000 Nodes and about 100,000 Links.
Based on the Network Data Model Process
    1. Set up the network data model:
              • Create the node table and the link table.
              • Insert metadata into USER_SDO_NETWORK_METADATA.
    2. Load network and user data:
              • Use SQL/Loader, insert statements, or programmatically
    3. Optionally, partition the network:
              • Node-based partitions
              • Optional partition BLOB generation
    4. Analyze and/or edit network data:
              • Application
              • Java program
My problem is during the partitioning of my network it takes too long to partition the network and created thousands of Tables that reached more than a hundred thousand. The partitioning did not complete since it consumed the whole disk (500gb) of my Test Server in its partitioning process.
According to the steps and samples i found, to partition a logical network I just needed to execute sdo_net.logical_partition.
This is the script that I executed:
         EXEC SDO_NET.CREATE_LOGICAL_NETWORK('ROADS_NETWORK',1,FALSE);
         ......INSERT NODES AND LINKS DATA.........
         CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY ROADS_NETWORK_DIR AS 'D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\ROADS_NETWORK';
         EXEC sdo_net.logical_partition('ROADS_NETWORK', 'ROADS_NETWORK_LPART$', 5000, 'ROADS_NETWORK_DIR', 'ROADS_NETWORK.log', 'a');
Is there something that I missed during my process? Or are there configurations that should be set before partitioning my logical network?
    I am using Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.1

    Is you network scale free?
If the logical network is a power law (scale-free) network, do not use this procedure to partition it, but instead use theSDO_NET.LOGICAL_POWERLAW_PARTITION procedure.[here]
If that's not the case, please provide us with a test case so we can reproduce the error?

  • Partitioning Logical Network

    Hello,
I need select a storage for a very big graph (>20mln nodes, > 45mln links). I've looked at Oracle Network solution.
I don't have any geometry or topology information in my data (the graph is more like social graph) so I decided to use Logical Network.
I've created Logical Network, inserted nodes/links into corresponding tables and run several queries over database:
    SELECT SDO_NET.GET_IN_LINKS('yl_net', 1) FROM DUAL;
That queries took too long time (>2sec) to complete, so I decided to load model into memory to speed up queries.
I would very appreciate if you help me to resolve following questions:
    1. Is is mandatory to partition Logical Network in order to load it into memory?
    2. How to partition Logical Network?
I've tried to use SDO_NET.SPATIAL_PARTITION function and faced with the exception "ERROR: network: XX_NETWORK is not a spatial network, partition aborted".
(Link to forum were people came across the same problem Make Partition Table in Logical Network

  • VMM2012 SP1 console giving error message when trying to assign logical networks

    Hello,
we are encountering the following Situation.
I have a new Hyper-V Cluster (2012) with at that time two nodes.
When I try to configure the Logical Network connectivity on a virtual Switch (Preparing the use of multiple VLANs) it works on one of the nodes but on the other one we are getting the following error message:
    Virtual Machine Manager
VMM is unable to process one of the provided parameters for the cmdlet (Set-SCVMHostNetworkAdapter):
Cannot convert 'System.Object[]' to the type 'Microsoft.SystemCenter.VirtualMachineManager.HostNetworkAdapter' required by parameter 'VMHostNetworkAdapter'. Specified method is not supported.
    ID: 12416
Does anyone has an idea what I am missing here?
    Thank you
    Sascha

Could it be possible that your network adapter does not support VLAN tagging?
I've run into this issue in my lab using consumer oriented NICs and trying to VLAN networking. A good test would be to do the following:
    Go to Hyper-V Manager
Create a Virtual Switch and set it to a VLAN.
Do you get an error message? If so, your NIC (or NIC driver) does not support VLAN tagging. If not, then you are fine and you have a problem with VMM somewhere.
This issue can also occur due to bad drivers on a NIC card as well.  However, for troubleshooting purposes, you will want to go down to the lowest level (Hyper-V Manager) to make sure that this isn't a Hyper-V issue and really is a VMM issue.
    Hope this helps!

  • Unable to remove Logical Network. Multiple dependancy problem.

    Hi,
I am having problems removing tyring to remove a Logical Network from one of my hosts.
It is saying that I have multiple dependencies, and that I need to amend them before I can remove the Logical Network.
(The problem is that I can't amend any of the dependencies and I am going around in cirlces)
The depdencies are of the Logial Network are :
    The host machine.
    Uplink port profile
    Site
    What can I do?
    Thanks

    Hi Sir,
    Sorry for the delay .
You may need to remove the link of logical network from the list :
Host , please check the properties of the HOST's logical network connectivity :
Site , please check network sites and remove it  :

  • Bare Metal Deployments: The BMC can't have IP Address defined in logical network?

I have defined a logical network, a logical switch, and a port profile.  I apply the logical switch (the NIC teaming settings) and a virtual network adapter that inherits the hosts network configuration (pass through config. no software defined networking)
to each of my Hyper-V hosts successfully.
The issue occurs once I have defined that logical network, I can no longer deploy bare metal hosts because the BMC obtains an IP within that logical network.  You see the BMC IPs and NICs are on the same subnet/VLAN.
What's the best practice or perhaps best method to get around this issue?

I am not sure if I follow you on this one.
You have created a logical network for your BMC in VMM? If so, why have you done that?
The bare-metal process requires both PXE and
DHCP during this process, and the scope should therefore be in DHCP and not VMM for this purpose.
Can you try to do that? (If this is a lab environment, you could add the DHCP service to your PXE server or even VMM server).

  • I am having a data excess usage issue with my Jetpack although I did not use the VZW network at all.

Background: My home does not have access to landline internet and I am relying on a Verizon Jetpack device rather than satellite cable for internet access.  Within my JetPack wireless network I have several devices connected, iPADs, PC’s, printer, etc. (up to 5 devices can be connected with my system).  Recently, I had one device within my immediate wireless network that I needed to transfer data via FTP to another local device within my immediate network.  The receiving device FTP’d data from device (198.168.1.42) to local IP (address 192.168.1.2).  To understand the data path a Trace rout for this transfer is 198.168.1.42 (source) to 198.168.1.1 (Jetpack) to 192.168.1.2 (receiver).  Note that the VZW network ((cloud)/4G network) was NOT used in this transfer nor was any VZW bandwidth used for this transfer (of course less the typical overhead status/maintenance communications that happen regardless). Use of the VZW bandwidth would be something like downloading a movie from Netflix, (transferring data from a remote site, through the VZW network, into the Jetpack and to the target device).  I also understand if ones devices have auto SW updates that would also go against the usage as well.  I get that.  My understanding of my usage billing is based data transfer across the VZW network.
Now to the problem: To my surprise I was quite substantially charged for the “internal” direct transfer of this data although I didn’t use the VZW network at all.  This does not seem to be right, and doesn’t make much sense to me.  Usage is should be based on the VZW network not a local Wi-Fi.  In this case, Verizon actually gets free money from me without any use of or impact to the VZW network.  Basically this is a VERY expensive rental for the jetpack device, which I bought anyway.  Considering this, I am also charged each time I print locally.  Dive into this further, I am also interested in knowing what is the overhead (non-data) communications between the jetpack router and devices and how much does that add up to over time?
Once I realized I was getting socked in bandwidth, as a temp solution I found an old Wi-Fi router, created a separate Wi-Fi network off the Jetpack, but the billing damage was already done.  Switching each device back and forth to FTP and print is a hassle and there should be no reason the existing hardware couldn’t handle this and charges aligned with VSW usage. Is purposely intended by Verizon? Is this charging correct? And can I get some help with this?
Logically, usage should be based on VZW network usage not internal transfers.  All transfers between IP addresses 192.168 are by default internal.  Any data that needs to leave the internal network are translated in to the dynamic IP addresses established by the VZW network.  That should be very easily detected for usage. In the very least, this fact needs to be clearly identified and clarified to users of the Jetpack.  How would one use a local network and not get socked with usage charges?  Can one set up a Wi-Fi network with another router, hardwire directly from the router to the Jetpack so that only data to and from the VZW network is billed? I might be able to figure out how to have the jetpack powered on but disable the VZW connection, but I don’t want to experiment and find out that the internal transfers are being logged and the log sent after the fact anyway once I connect…. A reasonable solution should be that users be able to use the router functions of the Jetpack (since one has to buy the device anyway) and only be billed for VZW usage.
Your help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Logical Switch and Logical Network

Hello All...................I have Hyper-V Failover Cluster based on 5 Hosts and I am managing it with VMM 2012 R2. I was slightly confused with respect to Logical Network and Logical Switch in the Fabric Settings.  I would appreciate if someone could
shed a little light on the difference between them.  Also, while there is a Logical Network defined by default (Name of the Virtual Switch of Hosts), there is nothing defined in the Logical Switch.  Which one is mandatory? Logical Network or Logical
Switch? Can I delete the default Logical Network?

    Hi Nick,
Please find below link for the whitepaper mentioned by Kristian.
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Hybrid-Cloud-with-NVGRE-aa6e1e9a
For a complete reference please refer below series. This covers VMM 2012 SP1 but should be fine with R2 as well.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2013/01/08/virtual-networking-in-vmm-2012-sp1.aspx
Logical Network is defined for easier management and used in Network Virtualization where as Logical switch is used to configure networking in multiple Hosts rather than creating individual Virtual switches in each host. If it were me I'll leave the
default logical network as there is no harm of doing nothing in it.
I hope this will shed some light into your situation.

  • Why can't Apple TV's and iOS devices see home sharing on my Windows 7 computer when iTunes libraries on other computers on the same network and connected to the same Home Sharing can?

I have never previously had any problems with Home Sharing, I have always found it to be completely reliable as advertised. I have 2 computers in the house, (one MacBook and one Windows Desktop) connected to the same Home Sharing account, connected to the same BT Home Hub 4. My situation is that I have nearly 2TB of data of which I would like to share with the home wirelessly, in my mind the desktop is the logical place for this to be shared from.
When running, iTunes on this desktop broadcasts to other iTunes libraries, but no other iOS devices or Apple TV's connected to the same Home Sharing account cannot see it.
I have tried turning Home Sharing off, and then turning it back on, closing iTunes, restarting the computer, going to Network and Sharing Centre and unticking IPv6 in the network adapter properties, even completely wiping the computer and reinstalling Windows 7.
One of the Apple TV's in the house was recently purchased by my parents with the promise from me that everything would work seamlessly... so far it isn't and I am frustrated that the Apple technology that I have come to rely on isn't working as expected.
One thing that has occurred to me upon writing this is that it is a very large amount of data, and I have not attempted to share this with another computer that is currently working and broadcasting it's Home Share fine.
I am sorry if I have ommitted any important details, any further questions don't hesitate to ask. I would be so grateful of any suggestions, my parents are depending on me.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!
