Channels 2 and 3 100 times more sensitive than 0 and 1

I am using a PCI-6052e device with a SCXI 1000 chassie.  The module is a SCXI 1121 with a SCXI 1321 terminal block.
I am using differential voltage.  On the PCI device test using a DC power supply, I have good agreement between channels 0,1 and the indicator on the power supply.  However, channels 2 and 3 show about 100 times more voltage than is applied.  (ie .05volts on the power supply = 5 volts on channels 2 and 3)
what could possibly be going on?  They should be identical.

There could be a few different things that may be happening.  You mentioned that it is reading 5V.  Is there a linear relationship between the input and what you read?  For example if you increase the power supply to 0.07V does it read 7V or does it stay around 5V.  If it reads 7V, make sure that you don't have any scales configured in the software when you read.  Also check the gain jumpers on the module to see what configuration they are in.  You can read more about the jumpers in the users manual on page 24.
SCXI-1121 Users Manual
http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/320426c.pdf
If the voltage doesn't change much it might be floating and not have a good connection to your power supply.  In this case double check your pinouts and make sure you have the correct channels connected and that the terminal block is properly connected to the module with no bent pins.  If you are still having issues, what behavior are you seeing on the other channels?  Are they reading correctly or being multiplied?
Have a great day,

  • OLAP taking 5 time more space than RDBMS?

    Hello,
I have been investigating Oracle's OLAP capabilities for about 2 weeks now in an effort to determine whether OLAP would be a feasible solution for my company's data warehousing needs.
I have created an extremely simple analytic workspace that is based on a single relational fact table. The fact table contains both the dimension values (integers) and the measuers (floats). There are a total of about 300,000 dimension values all of which reference measures (the data is perfectly dense).
I created a dimension and a data cube using the Enterprise Manager OLAP interface. Next, I created the analytic workspace using the Analytic Workspace Manager wizard. This AW building step took an extraordinary amount of time considering the simplicity of the data. In fact, I started it on a Friday afternoon, monitored it for about 2 hours, and it still hadn't finished, so I let it run over the weekend (for this reason, I am not sure how much time exactly it took, but it's definitely quite a few hours). Is this normal? Copying the relational table takes 10 seconds, and I find it hard to believe that building an AW with the same data would take so much time.
Finally, coming back on Monday I see that the AW was created successfully. I went into the tablespace map to look at how big the binary blob is. To my great surprise, the AW was taking up about 5 times more extents than my relational table (contrary to what I've read so far about OLAP and its supposedly very storage-efficient data cubes).
I was wondering if anybody could advise me on what I could have done wrong and/or inefficiently? Am I missing something here, or is OLAP really consuming much more space comapred to relational tables?
    Thanks!

    Gotcha.
Well, here are a few ideas:
    1) There is a bug in the 9i OLAP where dimension loads take WAY too long. I have a dimension with approx 77,000 members. On 9i, it took hours to load. On 10g 10.1.0.3 it loads in under 1 minute. You might want to open a TAR, the bug was something about one of the patch sets not being applied right
    2) From a space standpoing, I wouldn't worry about this too much. When the AW wizard creates an "empty" workspace, it already has lots of items in it that support the metadata, etc. Also, there is the concept of "free pages" that get allocated but end up not being used (they are "temp")
To check this out, attach your AW and then fire up the OLAP worksheet. To see "free" pages vs. "used" pages, do the following:
    show aw(pages)
    show aw(freepages)
One last thing you can do, to see the size of all items in the AW:
    attach AWname ro first
    limit name to all
    sort name d obj(disksize)
    rpr w 40 obj(disksize)
This will show the "relative" size of the items, I think in "pages" (to see how big a page is just do a
    show aw(pagesize)
    Hope this helps!

Get rid of the tracking cookies. They are used to profile and track your browsing history. While they are privacy invading, by calling them spyware, MacScan is being a little dramatic in trying to sell you its crap. And in the future, for whatever browser you use, don't allow third-party cookies.
To prevent tracking, get Ghostery. In addition to having Ghostery and forbidding third-party cookies, I clear out all cookies from one browsing session to another. If you always do that, you won't have any tracking cookies to worry about, so you won't need MacScan to find them for you. Btw, MacScan finds the tracking cookies in the first few minutes of scanning; if you want to use it for that, then that's all the time you need to run it for. But, as I said, you won't have any tracking cookies around if you just remove all cookies and don't allow third-party cookies. As soon as you visit a site that needs them, you'll just get new ones. No problem.

  • How do I change back to having "bookmark this page" on the top of the list and subordinate "all bookmarks" lower since I use former 100 times more than the later on a daily basis?

I create about 25 -50 new bookmarks daily for my business. So, it would seem user friendly to put that command at the top of the scroll down list. Maybe I am unique and others want to "show all bookmarks" repeatedly. I can't understand why one would need to do that more often than add multiple bookmarks on a daily basis. i look forward to your response,. Respectfully MC

cor-el, as you said, that solution puts the "show all bookmarks" all the way at the bottom. How do you either make "bookmark this page" first without changing the order of the other options or force "show all bookmarks" to be second instead of last, the way the menu was before?

  • Why acrobat 9 pro take 6 time more memory than acrobat 8 pro ?

I have tested acrobat 9 pro on a web capture pages (local files) and did the same with acrobat 8 pro.
At start acrobat 9 use 260 ko ram instead of 43 ko for acrobat 8.
the capture could never end with acrobat 9 because it eat more than 1 600 ko ram and i have an error : not enough memory.
acrobat 8 could finish the job with 400 ko memory used.
The configuration of the 2 captures are the same.
The result of the capture is different : acrobat 8 add lot of pages return after images.
Could i optimize ram use in acrobat 9 ?

    Good day,
I'd like to confirm a few things:
What action/activity are you performing in Acrobat when it crashes?
Is the crash consistent at the same point?
You stated in the subject '..after upgrading to 10.6.7'
What OS was on your iMac when you purchased it?
Was this problem occuring when using an earlier verion of 10.6.x?
Have you applied to font update Apple released to address some of the problems they introduced with 10.6.7?
Did you perform a clean install of Acrobat on your iMac after you purchased it or was the application transferred in some way?
I hope we can get this resolved for you!

  • WHy does Plug-in -contianter use 1-1/ times more memory than FF itself

So rather than help me fix my problems with 3.6 which was working fine except for a little thing I moved ups to 11.2 because it was suppose to be so much better. Well now Plug-in -container is using nearly 1/2 gig of memory and climbing. FF is using300K. I'm not a gamer. Best i do is YouTube.
So can i disable the plug in and somebody remind me how i did that in 3.6. You go into :about:config" right. Then What :)

Basically "plugin-container" is nothing more than a place for plugins such as Flash, quicktime, etc. to sit. That way if they crash, instead of bringing down the Firefox window, just the plugin crashes. So, if you get high memory usage in the plugin-container, it is the fault of those plugins. You could disable the process, but that would just make the Firefox.exe process use that much more RAM.
What you can try doing is this:
Alot of things nowadays are hardware accelerated, which means they try to use your graphics card to help speed things up. Try updating your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
Also, some extensions can cause problems with memory usage as well. Type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on.

  • Finder reports hard drive to have 2 times more space than Disk Utility does

I have a 1st Gen Mac Book Pro Retina with 256G SSD, OSX 10.8.2
Basically, when I open Macintosh HD in finder, it tells me that I have 91.08 gigs available. Then, opening up Disk Utility and clicking on Macintosh HD, I'm told I have 46 gigs of free space. Just to clarify, RAID isn't set up and I should just have a regular hard drive.

“You may notice a difference in available space statistics between Disk Utility, Finder, and Get Info inspectors. This is expected and can be safely ignored. The Finder displays the available space on the disk without accounting for the local snapshots, because local snapshots will surrender their disk space if needed."

  • Oracle taking 3 times more disk spaces than MySQL for BLOBs?

    Hello there,
We have been migrating one big about 8 TB MySQL table into Oracle 11g R2. The table contains biometric data in 18 BLOB columns - it's a kind of storage table for all biometric information in the form of BLOB. The avg. row length is about 140KB. We had a rough estimation - it might take about 12 TB of disk spaces after migrating the thing into Oracle. We planned to put this table in a 32K bock size tablespace. The table contains about 85 million records.
After we finished loading the data, we discovered that about 20 millions of records already consumed more than 7 TB of disk spaces! In this fashion, we might end up with consuming 30TB of disk spaces after loading the 85 million of records. The only thing at this moment I am thinking about is to reduce the PCTFREE parameter to 2% instead of 10% - the records will be very rarely updated. This will save about 2TB of disk spaces from that 30TB, I guess.
On top of your head, do you have any quick thoughts about the possible reasons of such abnormal (?) disk consumption - it is taking about 3 times more disk than MySQL database. What would be the best way to debug the problem - where to look at?
FYI- All the storage parameters of the table has been kept default - just mentioned the tablespace name while created the table. We have been using SQL*Loader with DIRECT mode to load the data.
    Thanks for your cooperation!
    Regards.

    Hi,
We are using the old BLOB - and not compressed yet.
The machine is not remotely accessible, I will get the DDL later on.
FYI, we did not mention any storage option for the table except the tablespace name. Earlier, I looked at the dba_lobs, dba_segments, dba_extents and had the following few information -
    * All the blob columns has "initial_extent" 163840 [from dba_segments]
    * Block allocation gradually increased, not uniform (extent_id 1 -> blocks 2, ... extent_id 14 -> blocks 32... extent_id 77 -> blocks 256... extent_id 938 -> blocks 2048 [from dba_extents]
    * CHUNK is 32768 for all lob segments
    * RETENTION is 900
    * No value for PCTVERSION
    Thanks for your time!

  • E-mails with attachments, mostly photos, are replicating themselves in my inbox, 100 or more at a time. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

It is an intermittent, but a regular-enough-to-be-really-annoying occurrence........when someone sends an e-mail, to which is attached a photo of some kind, or a picture document, it will replicate in my inbox, sometimes 100 or more copies at a time. I delete all of them, empty the trash, and will also go to the Yahoo web version of my e-mail and delete the offending e-mail from there and empty the trash. Sometimes worked. Now that process isn't working, and this particular e-mail just filled up my inbox with over 100 copies of itself, even after the other steps were taken. Can't get any incoming mail.
This log jam of replicated e-mails prevents incoming and new mail from reaching the inbox.
Needless to say, am not too happy about it. What is causing it, and how do I fix it, other than to go to Outlook for my e-mail client....? :0) This, coupled with the constant "not responding" each time I try to send an e-mail, delete items from the "sent" or inbox folders, is really driving me nuts. We have a crappy internet connection, and that is likely part of it, but the "not responding" is not a new thing with Thunderbird, either.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. I dislike the web version of Yahoo, and don't want to have to switch to that, as it just doesn't meet e-mail needs. Would like to get Thunderbird fixed.

I have not seen your error in either my IE or my chrome. I do note that you are using a "strict" Document Type Declaration.
You might try a transitional DTD, which should be more forgiving than the strict:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
Other than that, I don't see anything particular (because I don't see the error, either) that would cause the menu to drop vertically instead of horizontally.

    Con't
Apple claims that because I did not drain my battery frequently and kept it plugged in for extended periods of time, that it is my fault the battery is failing.  I disagree because I was not ever told to consistently drain my battery before recharging or not to keep it on and plugs in for extended periods of time.  I do keep my desktop computer on most of the time and that is why I have kept my Macbook air on for extended time periods.  I feel that Applecare should cover this battey issue and not charge me for replacing the battey.  I feel I should have been told to not keep my computer consistently running on with poweror the battery will fail.  Has anyone had this problem?  Apple should replace my battery under Apple care as my battery does not keep a charge anymore.
    I'll wait to hear.

You said---Apple claims that because I did not drain my battery frequently
You said---  I was not ever told to consistently drain my battery before recharging
You should never do that on purpose, whoever told you that had it wrong or you misunderstood something
Sure you dont have that backwards? thats exactly what you DONT want to do.
Did you often drain the battery very low? that would explain a lot.
Someone might have been misinformed about "battery calibration" regarding much older Macs with removable batteries (see bottom)
You said-----I do keep my desktop computer on most of the time and that is why I have kept my Macbook air on for extended time periods.
thats a problem there, youre not supposed to do that.
Keeping batteries connected to a charger ensures that periodic "top-ups" do very minor but continuous damage to individual cells, hence Apples recommendation above:   “Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time”, …this is because “Li-ion degrades fastest at high state-of-charge”.
This is also the same reason new Apple notebooks are packaged with 50% charges and not 100%.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
"Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time."
*If you don’t plan on using it for a few hours, turn it OFF (plugged in or otherwise) ..*You don’t want your Macbook both always plugged in AND in sleep mode       (When portable devices are charging and in the on or sleep position, the current that is drawn through the device is called the parasitic load and will alter the dynamics of charge cycle. Battery manufacturers advise against parasitic loading because it induces mini-cycles.)
Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles down on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery, but not plugged in all the time. When not being used for several hours, turn it off.
And best "tip" is if its near a socket,...plug it in as long as you can (especially at home) since cycle count on the battery are the "miles that wear out the tires (battery)", however again, not plugged in all or most of the time.
General rule to remember of Lithium batteries is:
Never drain them LOW  & dont always/often store them HIGH
While cycle count is commonly seen to be the “miles” on your Lithium Ion pack cell in your Macbook, which they are, this distinction is not a fine line at all, and it is a big misconception to “count charge cycles”
*A person who has, for example, 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 50-60% remaining of a 100% charge has better battery usage and care than another person who has 300 charge cycles at say 15% remaining on a 100% charge.
DoD (depth of discharge) is far more important on the wear and tear on your Macbook battery than any mere charge cycle count.  *There is no set “mile” or wear from a charge cycle in general OR in specific.    As such, contrary to popular conception, counting cycles is not conclusive whatsoever, rather the amount of deep DoD on an averaged scale of its use and charging conditions.
(as a very rough analogy would be 20,000 hard miles put on a car vs. 80,000 good miles being something similar)
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your Macbook and therefore you cannot overcharge it when plugged in and already fully charged
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your Macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
A lot of battery experts call the use of Lithium cells the "80% Rule" ...meaning use 80% of the charge or so, then recharge them for longer overall life.
Never let your Macbook go into shutdown and safe mode from loss of power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
The only quantified abuse seen to Lithium cells are instances when often the cells are repeatedly drained very low…. key word being "often"
Contrary to what some might say, Lithium batteries have an "ideal" break in period. First ten cycles or so, don't discharge down past 40% of the battery's capacity. Same way you don’t take a new car out and speed and rev the engine hard first 100 or so miles.
Proper treatment is still important. Just because LiPo batteries don’t need conditioning in general, does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesn’t need conditioning.
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
    Storing your MacBook
If you are going to store your MacBook away for an extended period of time, keep it in a cool location (room temperature roughly 22° C or about 72° F). Make certain you have at least a 50% charge on the internal battery of your Macbook if you plan on storing it away for a few months; recharge your battery to 50% or so every six months roughly if being stored away. If you live in a humid environment, keep your Macbook stored in its zippered case to prevent infiltration of humidity on the internals of your Macbook which could lead to corrosion.
    Considerations:
Your battery is subject to chemical aging even if not in use. A Lithium battery is aging as soon as its made, regardless.
In a perfect (although impractical) situation, your lithium battery is best idealized swinging back and forth between 20 and 85% SOC (state of charge) roughly.
Further still how you discharge the battery is far more important than how it is either charged or stored short term, and more important long term that cycle counts.
Ultimately counting charge cycles is of little importance.  Abuse in discharging (foremost), charging, and storing the battery and how it affects battery chemistry is important and not the ‘odometer’ reading, or cycle counts on the battery.
Everything boils down to battery chemistry long term, and not an arbitrary number, or cycle count.
Keep your macbook plugged in when near a socket since in the near end of long-term life, this is beneficial to the battery.
    Peace
Battery calibration, battery memory, battery overcharging, battery training, …all these concepts are mostly holdovers from much older battery technology, and on older Apple portable Macbooks ranging from early nicads, NiMh and otherwise; and these practices do not apply to your lithium battery and its smart controllers.
Calibrating the battery on older Apple portable Macbooks with removable batteries.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14087
There is no calibration of current Apple portable Macbooks with built-in batteries.
    http://support.apple.com/ht1490
There is no battery calibration with current Apple portable Macbooks with built-in batteries. Lithium batteries have essentially a 0-‘memory’, and all such calibration involve the estimations fed to the system controller on the SOC (state of charge) of the battery over long periods of time as the battery degrades. The software based battery controller knows the battery's characteristics, or SOC and adjusts itself. This is why there is both no need and purpose to periodically deeply drain your macbook battery, since it doesn’t affect the characteristics of the battery, and further still deep discharges are something you should not do on purpose to any lithium battery.

I synced my iPhone with itunes and iMac and got many more contacts than I wanted on my iPhone. How can I delete quite a few of them at one time as opposed to deleting one at a time?

iTunes does not handle the import of photos/videos from the iPhone's Camera Roll.
If this is not the computer you sync your iPhone with, you should have been provided a warning message that your iPhone is associated with an iTunes library on another computer and when trying to transfer any iTunes content from a different computer, a warning message is provided indicating that all iTunes content on the iPhone will be erased first.
When connecting an iPhone to iTunes on another computer, none of the options under the various tabs for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes are selected automatically. This means you had to select Sync Contacts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on your wife's computer.
Assuming you are syncing contacts with a supported address book app on your computer, connect your iPhone to Tunes on your computer and without syncing, under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences below the Advanced section, select Contacts for replace info on this iPhone followed by a sync.
For importing photos/videos from the Camera Roll which can be done with a computer that is not used for syncing the iPhone since syncing with iTunes is not involved.
