Chaotic bluetooth headset behavior in 10.5.6

I am little confused with my recent (2 weeks) upgrade to 10.5.x Leopard, I had performed clean install, started from scratch and so far I had close to no problems. However, there is one think which bother me a lot. I am using Skype a lot, 2-3 hours a day. In Tiger, I used to pair my JABRA BT135 Headset with my macbook, then I set it as device for Skype in skype's voice preferences, not in MAC OS X. It worked just fine, when I got a call, it all clicked, macbook somehow found my BT device, connect to it without bothering me CHANGED icon to bluetooth with small dots, worked for the length of my call, then when I disconnected, it disconnected as well, Changed icon back, again without any of my interference. I was really happy with it.
Now, with me going to Leopard, things are confusing for me. I paired my headset (BT350) to my macbook (10.5.6), and, when skype call comes, it connects, changes icon to connected, works, but never ever disconnects. Why? That's undesirable.
Sometimes when macbook goes to sleep it crashes whole sysyem, and there are new things in the BT menu, it asks if I want to "manually" disconnect (but it almost immediately connects back) with rather confusing dialog which even stopped to appear. Or I can use as headset (whatever that means) or change sound preferences for whole OS X, which is last thing I ever want. I would like to use BT only an solely for Skype, never ever for iTunes, Safari or anything else. I can't make it working right, can you guys kick me in the right direction? Why it seems to works worse than in previous version? Any tip?

the problem seem to be more serious than what I anticipated, BT sound quality is much worse than with Tiger and same HW and just do not disconnect after call. This drains headset battery power to zero in few hours, rendering it useless and sometimes crashes Leopard.

I've a problem with lovely E75. I just got a new bluetooth headset (HBH-IS800 SonyEricsson) without any volume control. In a normal call the volume adjust works perfect, but in the mediaplayer the volume is to loud even if I press the lower buttom to it says 10% in the display.
I also have the same problem with systemsounds (lika SMS) that plays in the BT headset, they are to load.
Is it possible to change the output volume from this media applications? I cant find any help in the manual or menusystems.

I beg to differ. If SE implements the basic BT protocol set and Nokia will recognize this, and connects, then Nokia's work is done. Nokia is not required to support SE headset but is required to support the BT standards. The idea is to get you to purchase an SE phone over a Nokia phone and vise versa. To not understand this is to miss out on the basics of business fundamentals.
While it may be a great headset, personally I like the fact that I can use my much better headphones (Shure SE 530's) with the Nokia BH-214. I had the SE HBH-DS220 but got rid of it because it too had a very strange BT protocol that would not allow it to connect until music was streaming from the phone. The guys at the SE shop acknowledged this as normal behavior between manufacturers. If you do not believe this, go to and SE shop, or Nokia, or both and ask them to explain it to you.

ITunes starts up whenever I connect my bluetooth headset

I am using bluetooth headset to communicate on Skype. Whenever somebody's calling me, I turn my headset on and it will automatically connect to my MacBook. Every time, however, it will also automatically start iTunes and begins to play. I don't want this behavior, since instead of listening to music I would actually want to talk on Skype. How can I change this?
Possible explanation to this could be that headphones may send "Play" button message to the computer once connected, since this is same button that is used to turn them on/off. I am not sure however, if they actually do send this button. But in case they do, how can I disable iTunes startup on Play button? Is there are an official way to do it or should I really go with something like this: http://superuser.com/questions/31925/stop-play-pause-button-opening-itunes-in-sn ow-leopard/39390#39390.

Does anyone know how to keep iTunes from launching when you turn on your bluetooth headset? It looks like this question remains unanswered and I am really interested in a solution as the default behavior of launching itunes just because I enabled a bluetooth device is extremely irritatiing.

Bluetooth Headset Wacky

I continue to have a problem with bluetooth headsets (on my 3rd one) for which I can find no explanation anywhere. It seems that the device switches into bluetooth audio mode whenever it connects to the Mac. In practice, that means that a Skype call leaves Bluetooth connection active, running the battery down in the process. I must constantly remember to manually select "Don't use as audio device."
How can I permanently alter this behavior to prevent battery rundown? I don't care about using this mono headset for audio; my desktop speakers are much better.
Anyone?

Read the manual for the headset. If it doesn't support A2DP audio streaming, then you can't do that.

Itunes launches when bluetooth headset connects on OS X

OS X: when I connect a Bluetooth headset, iTunes launches and begins playing. Not desired behavior. I see a thread or two from a year or so ago, but wonder if this isn't caused by some recent update. (It didn't do this a month ago).

Found the answer thanks to another post on the Apple Forums. The iTunesHelper app in Login Items was an older location of an older iTunes which was somehow not replaced.
Replacing it was not entirely easy. I could remove it easily enough, but because the current iTunesHelper.app lives inside the iTunes.app bundle, you cannot navigate from System Preferences - Users&Groups - Login Items as it won't open iTunes.app to look for other apps inside.
So, I opened Terminal.app and typed
open /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS
this opens a Finder window. Here you find the correct iTunesHelper.app. That one can be dragged to the login items in System Preferences.

I can pair the headphones with the computer but the sound from GB is distorted and muffled. I can barely hear it. The set works with iTunes, but not with GarageBand.

You can only pair one device at a time to your 8330, or any other phone for that matter. The "pairings" are saved to the phone, you can use one or the other and you won't have to pair it again. Once you turn your bluetooth device on and the phone is on, they will find each other again.

I am unable to use my bluetooth headset to record voice memos, is there a trick to this?

I have a Plantronics Voyager Pro+ Bluetooth headset, I am unable to use it to record voice memos on my Iphone 4, using IOS 6.1.3. The memos record fine when using the built-in mike but not the Bluetooth headset. Does anyone have any insight or comments that might help resolve this situation?

The steps below will help you in resolving this issue of your iPhone giving you a No SIM alert.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Toggle Airplane mode On and Off.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Check for a carrier settings update. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.
Remove the SIM Card and verify that it is a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it is not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
Restore the iPhone.
If you still are unable to resolve this issue, contact Apple support for further assistance.

Play mp3 on bluetooth headset

Just wanted to share this.
Yesterday I bought a Jabra EasyGo bluetooth headset. Unfortunately, it could not bluetooth mp3 songs from my iPhone 4 iOS5. It can only be used for making/answering calls. However, today I found out that the headset can also play Voice Memos. This gave me an idea on how to bluetooth the mp3 songs from the iPhone to the headset:
Step 1 - Convert the mp3 file from Stereo to Mono (I used Audacity to accomplish this).
Step 2 - Add the Mono mp3 file to the iTunes library in the PC (my iTunes version is 10.5.0.142).
Step 3 - Sync the iPhone with iTunes.
Step 4 - In iPhone, open the Voice Memos. The imported mp3 file will appear in the list.
Step 5 - Turn the headset on (already paired with iPhone), then a 'speaker & bluetooth' icon will appear on top-left corner of the iPhone (see photos below).
Step 6 - In the Voice Memos, click on the play button next to the name of the the mp3 file.

I updated to 6.1.4 yesterday
I use Jabra EasyGo bluetooth headset.
Music streaming is fine with the headset.
Problem is it doesnt respond to any phone call or dial commands.
Tried it on another friends iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.3 it works
Please help to solve as I depend on the bluetooth my work drives car a lot.

I don't think I can restore the back up from iCloud, because I did not back it up to iCloud before the update to OS 6.1.4. I don't think this is related to voice samples because it seems to cut in and out, like Siri is not 'hearing' me, due to a problem with the microphone.

Hello, did you ever get an answer to your question? I just picked up a Jawbone Era and using on an iPhone 4s running 5.0.1. Seems to work fine on regular calls, but not on the built in Voice memos application. It worked fine on my older Jawbone Icon, but haven't tested on the 4s or iOS 5.

How do I pair my Bluetooth Headset with ThinkPad with Windows 7

I have got a Plantronics explorer 210 bluetooth headset. I was hoping to pair it with my lenovo E431 laptop running Windows 7 . However, I do not see any application that will allow me to pair the headset. I do see an application to transfer files over bluetooth. I don't see bluetooth device in the system. Thought the specs say bluetooth should be present.

Apple, as I'm sure you know, now manage official phone 'unlocks' directly rather than the Newtork doing so.
When a GSM Network Provider buys a consignment of iPhone's they are locked to that carrier and may only be officially unlocked if said carrier requests it. If so, it is Apple who do this, via iTunes.
I am therefore inclined to think that part of the any generic iTunes syncing process involves the transmission of key hardware data, including IMEI, to Apple whenever the handset is synced.
If this is the case and, as each iTunes account is linked to a credit card, were Apple to maintain a database of genuinely stolen phones (ones reported to Police) they could advise said Police force when a stolen phone stuck its metaphorical head over the parapets once again? They would be able to identify the name & address of the new user.
I have spoken to the Police here in Ireland today and they regularly engage with Apple on such matters.
This may not be tracking as we know it Jim, (not using GSM Triangulation or GPS) but it's arguably even more targetted and leaves an indelible fingerprint of guilt on the thief.
The laws here are simple in this regard, if you are in possession of stolen property, knowlingly or otherwise, you forfeit the goods once the Police show up. Whether you get prosecuted depends on whether you stole the goods or were duped into purchasing them.
