Chapter layout font

Hello!
Is it possible to change the font used to print "Chapter layout" in PDF?
If not, is it possible to remove "Chapter layout" from Printed documentation?
Thank You
Célia Freitas

Colum is pointing you to that because it tells you how to remove what you have referrred to as Chapter Layout and that item is in the third page of the wizard. I suspect however it is the TOC you want to remove. If you remove Chapter Layout in the wizard, you will not have any content.
You can change the font with a different workflow. Generate to Word instead of PDF and you can change the style there. If you are doing this frequently, map to a Word template and amend the style in that.

  • Changing "Chapter Name" font

When making an ePub I can't create a new "Chapter Name" with a different font and still have it behave like a Chapter Name style i.e. inserting a page break. I don't want change the original style because it'll affect all Chapter Names. I wouldn't mind this if I could insert a page break but the Chapter Name is the only to do this. Any ideas?

When I put my book in iBooks there is a white boarder around the cover.
Not sure if you are referring to a an "cover art image" problem or a "device display" problem here.
In the latter case, all hardware devices I own, as well as all of the ones I've looked at in stores, have had one common problem --that of dedicating some portion of the display area for the display of info, margins, and/or the "framing" of text and images. For this reason, it is not really possible "not" to have some sort of "border" around an image embedded on a "page" of an ePUB file when viewing the content on most such devices currently available on the market.
In the former case where a "cover art" image is used, a "white" border could be the result of image dropped/imported into iTunes. For instance, most Amazon cover art images are overlaid on a white 500x500 pixel background. Thus, when they are used are dropped/imported to iTunes as cover art, display with a "white" border on the black default background used by most Apple apps/devices such as iTunes, TV, iPad, etc. Borderless cover art images, of course, do not have this problem.
I can "Get Info", load in my cover in the cover art section and it will work fine there but I won't be able to do that when I put my book up for sale. Any ideas?
It is my understanding that dropping/importing a cover art image to iTunes merely "associates" the external image with the content within the iTunes database which then, in turn, passes the cover art images to other devices in an appropriate manner for display on the specifically supported device(s).
Basically, there are two methods of embedding "cover" images within the ePUB file. The first is to include the image on a "page" (usually the first) within your project. This method has the advantage of making/allowing the "cover" to be viewed as the first page of your book. In addition, most applications/devices automatically use this first image/page as a thumbnail icon for readers employing a graphic user interface. The major disadvantage, as you have noted, is that such "cover" art is invariably displayed with some sort of a border.
The second method is to embed an actual "cover" image within the ePUB file in the "Image Folder." The advantage here is that the image is usually of a reduced size requiring less space than a "full page" image. Again, most eReaders will recognize this "cover" file and use it for cover display and/or the graphic interface. The disadvantage, of course, is that this image cannot be viewed as a page of your ePUB book in the reader.
Different applications seem to use different approaches here. Pages, for instance, will, if you use the option during export, take the first page of your project--be it a "full cover page" in-line image in a marginless document, a "full cover page" floating object placed over a margined page, a text "Title" page, or a combination of images and text--remove it from your document, take a snapshot of the page, and place this "cover-image.png" in the ePUB package "OPS > images" folder. Thereafter, this image will be used in the same manner as cover art manually dropped/import to iTunes--i.e., it will display as a icon in the graphic interface and be used as the "cover" for the book in Books as the book opens on the iPad but is store within the ePUB package. On the other hand, since the the associated XHTML file content was deleted during ePUB compilation, it is no longer available for viewing as a regular page.
Legend Maker, on the other hand, goes in the opposite direction. Since you include a source "cover.png" image in your project to begin with, it creates a "cover.html" page in the ePUB package which displays (with the normal limitations) as the first page of your ePUB book and also places the original "cover.png" file in "OEBPS > images" folder which is available for "cover art" icon/graphic use in apps/devices that use them.
So basically, yes, there is a way for Pages to automatically embed the "cover art" functionality formerly manually applied by you in iTunes if this is what you want. Just remember that your "cover art" must entirely cover the Pages document page since this is what is used as the "canvas" for the automatically generated image. If it does not do so, then the image will include a "white" border for any background area(s) left exposed. This may require distorting or cropping the original art as desired/needed.

  • IMovie '06 chapter url font color

when making some movies i am adding url's into the chapter markers. when i play it back the font color is always blue font color against black. which makes it hard to read. how do i change this to white ?

    Hi
Don't think it's possibly. The blue color is from some general program-code and appears in lot's
    of applications.
If one could make it undetectably - eg mixing in invisible control letters may be this program
would miss to track it as an www address. BUT then it wouldn't be click-able either.
Can you change the backgroud so that the contrast would be better ?
One can in some cases hide the url under a photo with the text in a desired color BUT I don't
think that either is a possible way here.
Sorry. Never seen it working here.

  • Using a page layout as the first page of a chapter/section- not possible?

I have created about 20 or so different page layouts using the right-hand 'layout' menu, all was fine until i wanted to use one of these pages at the begining of a section - it wouldn't work. I can only select 'section' layouts, which I have only made a few of. Does this mean in order to have all my choices as the first page of a section/chapter I have to recreate all the page layouts as section/chpter layouts? is this even possible (as I tried to create a 'flow' text box on a chpter page and couldn't do it.)  Also, why do section and chapter layouts consist of two pages?

The line spacing isn't exact by default. I presume you use Pages 08 or 09. In the Inspector > T tab > Line < Click on the small arrows to the right and choose Exactly

  • Chapter title won't render correct font in portrait mode

I'm trying to change the default chapter title font (Georgia) to Helvetica Neue.  It renders fine in landscape mode and in the TOC, but if I look at it in portrait mode it doesn't render the font correctly and stays Georgia.

Nevermind, I figured it out.  You have to manually change it portrait mode as well as landscape mode while you're in iBooks Author.

  • Change PDF print layout

I am attempting to print multiple pages per sheet.  I have the option to customize the number of pdf pages per printed page.  However, if I were to choose any layout that is 1 across and any number down per sheet, the pages always print down the middle.  There is no way to print everything on the left side.
For instance, I have a powerpoint that was provided to me as a pdf.  I cannot get the original and I would like to print this copy.  I would like the slides to print multiple per page down the left side, leaving the right side to write notes.  However, choosing multiple pages per sheet and then customizing the layout to 1x3 prints three slides in a column down the center of the page.  Is there a way to print them 3 in a column down the left side of the page, leaving the right side blank?

Colum is pointing you to that because it tells you how to remove what you have referrred to as Chapter Layout and that item is in the third page of the wizard. I suspect however it is the TOC you want to remove. If you remove Chapter Layout in the wizard, you will not have any content.

  • Thumbnails wont display pages in a chapter that I know are there and have pasted in

    Hello everyone.
I am an author and have previously published two books in the iBookstore using iBooks Author. The third one that I'm attempting to lay out is giving me major problems for some reason. I have a MacBook Air 13 inch Mid 2013 Processor  1.3 GHz Intel Core i5 running Mac OSX 10.9.5 and the latest iBooks Author 2.1.3. My screen window is as large as it can go on my screen, and everything seems to work fine when I select a chapter layout and just drop the text in, but then when I go back and start modifying some of the page layouts by changing say, from a two column text only page to a one column text and half page image, or any of the other options, it works okay for the first couple of times but then I see that the last couple of pages of text in that chapter have been 'pushed' off the end of both the thumbnail pane on the left hand side of the screen, and in the main window itself. I can't get to them because the scroll bars in both the main window and the thumbnail pane are at the ends of their travel and won't let me see any more of the pages that I know must be there, and were there before I started putting images in... I took a screengrab and on the very right hand side of the main window you can just see a portion of the next text page, but I can't scroll on to it or access it in any way, which has brought everything to a grinding halt. Is there a page limit within each chapter that I don't know about? (I currently have about ten pages in this chapter, but that might go up to about 13 if I was able to drop some more images in.) The images are all jpegs, maximum size of around 13 MB, average around 8MB. I noticed that the 'Media' file took a very long while to load images into from IPhoto, and I don't know whether that indicates a problem between iPhoto and iBooks Author or not? I still have my two original iBooks stored in the iBooks Author memory, and wonder if I have somehow exceeded an overall memory size in the app or not? Or is it something much more basic that I'm doing wrong? I've quit the programme several times and rebooted, to no effect. Any ideas or help would be appreciated please. PS I'm not a tech head, so terminal-speak doesn't mean anything to me by the way...!

Hold everything guys! I think I've solved the problem – by manually adding on extra text pages at the end of the thumbnail pane, it kind of 'catches up' with the rest of the text. I was expecting this to happen automatically, like when you paste in text the first time around, but clearly this doesn't happen and you've got to do it yourself... Note to Apple: a 'flow-on' updating feature for page layout changes would be good to incorporate next time around please.

10 marks for recognising the Latin (sort of) that is the placeholder text in your template.
You are using a Word Processing template. WP templates have content flowing from page to page. As one page fills up, a new one is created. If some of that text is deleted or displaced the pages retract.
When you combine text, invisibles like word spaces, returns, tabs, page breaks etc with objects that have text wrap set, the mix can behave in an apparent odd fashion.
Start with showing where everything is:
    Menu > View > Show Layout/Invisibles
Start with getting rid of any excess returns you may have used to "position" things. Next cut and paste objects like textboxes, shapes, charts and tables "Inline" ie in as part of the text. If necessary also turn off text wrap on objects or minimise it so that doesn't push text completely out of the way.
Insert Section breaks in the Text where you want fixed breaks in the layout these will provide separation between layout on different pages.
Basically you need to clean up your layout or think about doing it another way.
If there is a lot of layout, you will need to learn Pages methods for doing this in a WP template or do it in a Layout template where each page is individual and all objects are floating with no default text area.

    /Weight (Regular) def
    /ItalicAngle 0 def
How to obtain this lines but of another TrueType Font?
Thanks a lot for your help.

The PFB files are printer font binary files and they contain a mixture of 7-bit ascii and 8-bit binary characters.
Read the Adobe Type 1 Font Format version 1.1 book (especially Chapter 2: Font Program Organization on page 11).
I wrote an application in "C" that reads .PFB files and makes .PS files that are used to insert into PostScript jobs. Whether it is easy or not depends on your level of proficiency in "C" or whatever language you use.

  • How to Change Fonts in Oracle Reports

    Hi All,
When ever i am changing fonts in my report it reflects me when i run them on reports builder installed on my local machine.
But when i put them on application server, these changes are not reflected. I am generating PDF reports.
Can some body help me what should i need to do to reflect the font changes.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

    Hi Kamal,
Whether the font used in the report is installed in the machine where Apps server is installed? If not , use the feature ' PDF Aliasing' to substitue for that particular font.
For more information on this, have a look at the chapter "Managing Fonts in Oracle Reports" in Publishing Reports Manual. You can download it from http://download.oracle.com/docs/pdf/B14048_01.pdf.

  • Dynamic layout

How do you dynamically add layout to a group/transparent container. Set it to something like Gridlayout with col values etc.

    Hi Deepak,
U can create UI elements dynamically. For designing layout dynamically use the dynamic layout manipulation correctly, you must understand the structure of a view:
In a view, a number of UI elements is laid out in relation to one another. This is done in so-called containers. To describe it, a layout is selected for every container: FlowLayout, MatrixLayout, or RowLayout exist (see reference documentation, chapter Layout).
Every UI element has layout data, in accordance with the embedding container. This layout data contains the description, at which position in the layout of the container an embedded UI element has its place.
    Hope this helps u,
    Regards,
    Nagarajan.

  • Chapter Title & Introduction text from Pages?

    Hi,
I designed a chapter layout in iBooks Author. But I can't seem to figure out how to get the Chapter Introduction text and Chapter title text from my Pages document into Author.
I've created and applied style sheets within Pages and dragged the document into Author. But all of that text is displayed in a page after the chapter page instead of within it.
And if I go to the first chapter in Author, the text isn't editable. I could delete these text boxes in layout mode, and do every chapter manually. But is it possible for Author to insert text into the corresponding text boxes based on a style sheet?
Has anyone been able to do this?
    Thanks!

    John,
I have not tried this, but you could try creating a master page for the first page in the chapter. Put two frames on the master page BOTH with the flow set to A. Position the first frame where you want the title to be and position the second frame where you want the text to begin. Set the paragraph tag for the title to have no space following. Set the paragraph tag for the FIRST paragraph of the text to Keep X rows together. With X set large enough, FrameMaker would not have room to put the first paragraph in the upper frame, so it will push it to the next frame. If this works, you can even go back to your original side head format for the title. You just have to make sure the top frame is large enough to hold all titles, so that a title does not leak to the second frame.

Could anybody advice as to what is going wrong here. Please don't give me links to refer as I have went across quite a lot of them. I would really appreciate if you could point me what things have been not performed good from step A to E.

Ok, I managed to get my dpi at 140 using this method:
    startx -- -dpi 140
    $ xdpyinfo | grep -B1 dot
    dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (348x195 millimeters)
    resolution: 140x141 dots per inch
I still have the same font problem. Everything is the same. So it's not a dpi problem, back at the beginning.
So, any idea were it could come from?
EDIT: I think this is actually only due to Spotify. Spotify for Linux doesn't scale its fonts correctly, there's nothing to do about it.
I thought it was general to qt applications, but it seems that others examples I've seen, like KeepassX, show the same way on Windows. So it's really an application setting, it doesn't have to do with my computer.
