Chapter markers again

the way i see it: apple cut old ropes with fcpx, and the features the crowd demands the most are re-integrated. like xml and multicam, as we saw recently.
now, apple, hear me: I NEED CHAPTER MARKERS, as i told you in feedback to fcpx already.
i can't sell a music-video to customers without chapters for each song.
i bought compressor 4.0.2, as in the apple store it sais, a new feature is that markers are now chapter markers as default. yes, exported markers from compressor, but not the imported from fcpx. money for nothing.
i tried every suggested workflow, no one works perfect. neither in garage band nor in compressor it is as easy to set markers with frame accurancy as it is in final cut. exporting xml and importing in qt or compressor did not work fine, also.
i really began to like fcpx, as it has some cool new features, but all are worthless for me as long as i can't set chapter markers. i have to use final cut studio again and hope that the next update will bring chapter markers back again.

Why can't you set the chapter markers in Compressor?
Did you see this

P.S. You know you can import chapter markers to Compressor from a tabbed text file list that has timecode numbers?

This is definitely not the behavior I see.  When I left click it adds a marker,
When I right click, I see the following
Do you have any OS hacks installed on your computer or have you changed the mouse behavior in system preferences:  mouse?  If not, I'd suggest you run digital rebellions preference manager and reset your dvdsp preferences.

  • Fix for erroneous chapter markers in Encore CS4

Thought I post my work for all to use. In the mean time, I also hope Adobe picks up this problem and posts a fix for it
If you use Encore chapter markers in Premiere, when you import the media in Encore, your chapter markers are nicely named "ThisIsAChapterMarkerFlag" (at least that is what happens with me and a few others: see other posts in this forum).
I was not so happy with the fix suggested in that post to manually correct the chapter markers in Encore, so I dug a little more.
I have tracked the error down to an error in the creation of the <media.m2v>.xmpses. After having verified that changing that file fixed the error, I decided to write a little program that does this for you, brushing up some very stale C knowledge and picking up a free Visual C++ environment from Microsoft.
Reason for automating is that every time you change the timeline in Premiere and re-export, you would have to do manual work in Encore again.
Well, a few days later, I did build the program and IT WORKS.
So this is how it works:
    * Following the initial suggestion by bowden, when you create a chapter marker in Premiere, copy the name to the comment section of the chapter marker
    * do your export in Premiere
    * run the fix program in a dos prompt in the directory where the exports reside
    * it will convert all the .xmpses files it finds there by copying the comment section to the name section
    * import the media in Encore: voila, there are your chapter markers
If you want to pick up the program:
    ftp://ftp.l3m.nu
    user: Adobe
    password: Xmpses
Oh and no comments please on the style of software writing, it has been more than 20 years since I wrote my last C program :-))
I think this also clearly shows this is a bug in CS4 Premiere (or the media exporter, eitherway). Adobe can you please look into this?
This will definitely work with the integrated work flows supported in CS4 i.e. clikcing on a timeline in Encore, bringing up the timeline for editing in Premiere. But that for know is only a small burden for me.
    Hope this helps

    To All
Well I burnt some time for nothing: it appears that right when I was writing my fix program, Adobe released an update of the Media Encoder that has the problem fixed in the encoder.
So to all: forget my fix, make sure you update to the latest version of AME and you are fine

  • Problem exporting chapter markers

Using iMovie 8.0.5, I created an iMovie project containing 17 chapter markers (total, 3 hours 55 minutes long) which I plan to burn to DVD using Toast Titanium 9. When I export the project (export movie) large or medium, the chapter markers do not export (I opened the created MPEG 4 movie with QuickTime Player, QuickTime 7, MPEG Streamclip, iTunes and VLC, no chapters to be found). I cut the project down to 6 chapters (total, 1 hour 26 minutes). Still no chapter markers exported. However, I cut the project down again to 3 chapters (total, 18 minutes 22 seconds) and I now see the 3 different chapters in the MPEG 4 movie created, using QuickTime Player. I understand that I should be able to export up to 99 chapter markers per project. Exporting such a project is time consuming and I will most likely die before finding the solution. Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

just export a qt ref from fcp and import that into dvdsp and lay it on to the dvd video track. It'll carry your markers over. You can then delete the video from the track and replace it with your compressed version, but the markers from the qt ref will remain.

  • No Chapter markers in share - DVD or blu ray?????

    Hi there,
Latest version of Lion and FCX.
I burned my 1st blu ray for a client last night (wuhoo!). It looks great.  Outstanding actually.  Used a Matrox CompressHD card to compress the H.264.
But I noticed no chapter markers present.
Thinking it was the matrox card, I did some investigation.
Turns out that chapter markers are 'apparently', NOT transferred during the share feature??!??!  It doesn't matter what I use for compression - markers simply don't transfer from FCX to Compressor 4!?!?!
Maybe I did something wrong - I'm just learning FCX after using FCP for years.
I had to re-create the chapters in Compressor 4.
Is that the way to have chapter markers carry across?
If so, that is simply one of the most asinine decisions about this product.  Forget all the hassles about not importing previous projects etc.. as that is a different issue, but discontinuing one of the most basic features from the previous product is just ridiculous.
Can anyone confirm the chapter marker workflow?  Again, it could be me doing something wrong, but I have a funny (and SAD!) feeling I'm not...
    Cheers,
    Keebler

No, you're not doing something wrong, chapter markers are a glaring omission from FCP X but apparently, Apple sees no future in DVD or even Blu Ray, so we're stuck with using Compressor or some other application to add chapter markers.
Fortunately, this is very simple if you list the timecode (each on separate lines in a text file) where you want the chapter markers to be - Compressor will import them and the markers appear automatically.
I agree with you though - it's pretty lame.

  • Why Chapter Markers doesn't jump anymore after updates ?

    Hi all experts out there,
I am faced with a weird problem ...
I use iDvd to create some DVD, the menus & chapters all works fine & perfect. The chapter markers jumped correctly to correct chapters.
Then I wanna make some simple amendment to the movie (ie I wanna add some text to the movie). So I went back to Final Cut and re-render it with the Chapter Markers checked as before. I renamed it as the same file.
Then I went back to iDvd, when I opened it, it is very smart, it detects a new updated file & asked me if I wanna UPDATE. So I click the update button. Very good, all the chapters are still intact, the names for all chapters are also intact, the movie is also updated with the new text.
The only thing that didn't work is that when I click on the Chapter in the Scene Selection, it doesn't jump, it always goes back to the beginning of the video.
Then I re-render again the Final Cut again & try again. This time when I select the Chapter, it always go back to Chapter 2.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

Can someone help me with the above, please ? I ran out of ideas

  • Encore chapter markers off / different when playing DVD and when watching in Preview mode

    I'm using CS6 and Encore version 6.0.0
I have a 120 min project with about 17 chapter markers. The markers were set to a older version of the project and then I extended the project by about 5 min and did a Replace Asset in the timeline. I adjusted the markers in the timeline. When I view the project in the Preview mode the chapters markers start at the right place but then I burn to DVD and they are off by about a minute.
I've tried deleting the cache and buring again but it's still off.
I think doing the Replace Asset messed things up but when it plays fine in Preview but not on the DVD something is really wrong.
    Thanks

Update: I removed everything from the timeline and started over and entered the chapter markers. They are still off and now it's worse.
I have 21 chapters. 6-10 are off the rest are ok. I am burning to a dual layer DVD but I don't think that would be the reason.
Lastly, the DVD player skips over the final chapter it goes from 20 to the begining of the movie skipping Chapter 21.
    What the heck?!

  • Why won't chapter markers in FCP5 import to idvd6?

I recently imported a video project that I created in FCP5 into iDVD6 for DVD authoring. I put chapter markers in the video project with the idea that IDVD6 would create the sub menus. For some reason they are not showing up. I've checked the appropriate boxes in preferances but no luck. Am I missing something? Or is this a bug that Apple needs to fix?
Has anyone else had a problem or a fix for this? Please let me know.

I have also been tearing hair out with similar problems. Found some info similar to those given above. Making sure that chapter markers are at least 2 seconds away from transistions and also away from clip ends( 1second I think is min here). finally after much resaving it all worked as it should.
Now doing seperate project and its here we go again. Have now got chapter markers to work fine but now the clips which are 16:9 are showing up as 4:3 but only when you "play movie" or preview scenes. The menu's look fine.
Something very weird is going on.
The real pain is its soooooo easy when it works..............

  • Reset chapter markers to 1

I create chapter markers on FCP. When I select where I want to start and set marker, it start with odd number like 53. I want to start number 1. I could not figure how to reset to 1. How?

First know that when you create a Marker you have to tell it to be a Chapter Marker. So to create the marker press the M button twice. This will bring up a dialogue box where you can pick the type of maker you want and, to get back to you question, name the marker whatever you want.
If you've already created the marker you can put the playhead on the marker and choose MARK > MARKERS > EDIT and you will get the dialogue box again where you can re-name it whatever you like.

  • FCP 7 Chapter Markers

I have a ProRes 422 clip (captured from Canon XHA1S - HDV) when I 'M' and 'M' again to place a marker and description including ticking the 'Chapter Marker' button it all works. I then export from FCP using current settings and export all markers. The produced .MOV file has the chapter markers ok( I can see them in Quicktime player) but when I workflow thro Compressor (to get my .ac3 and .mv2 files) into DVDPro the chapter markers are gone. I know I have left out a lot of detail about settings in Compressor but in effect I select the Make DVD template option with no changes but can you spot anything obvious I am missing or do you need mor info to tell .. if so when else would help you determine the cause. Many thanks in advance !
    Jim

I'm still learning Final Cut too, so I hope I'm not misinforming you, but I've had that problem before and it was b/c the markers were on the clips themselves or on the audio track vs. on the timeline. When you hit "M" for marker make sure nothing is selected so the marker goes onto the timeline itself. You should see them along the top under the render bars, not within the clips or audio.
I think that might be your issue. I've had so many people on here helping me, I feel inclinded to try to help others, but not sure I'm in that category yet

  • Chapter markers don't appear in Encore after Export from Premiere

I have to admit that I am really frustrated by this whole Adobe Cloud. Every time I 'upgrade' to the latest version, there is some new bug that REALLY hampers my workflow, and in the meantime I find no new features that are really all that useful to me right now.
Here is the latest: After creating chapter markers in Premiere and exporting the timeline as an m2v, I bring the file into Encore and none of my chapter markers are there. This worked up to two days ago right before I 'upgraded'. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Also, if I export a file that uses the Warp Stabilizer effect, the word "Stabilizing" appears on the output during any clips that use it. This was a little embarrassing to discover after I sent out a DVD to a client. I have found a work around for this, but seriously WTF??
I don't feel confident that I should ever upgrade any more, but then what am I paying for?
Does anyone know if it is possible to revert to an old version once you've upgraded.

I am on a Mac 10.9.3, but I don't think that would have anything to do with it. I did output an .mp4 last night and brought it into Encore and the cahpter markers came in fine. So it must be something about the m2v file it doesn't like. Obviously, .mp4 is not the ideal way to bring the file into Encore because then the program has to transcode again, but yet another work around I have to come up with to make up for the program's shortcomings.
I will open another thread about the "Stabilizing" issue.
    Thanks.

  • Chapter Markers with Media Encoder.

Is it possible to export media with the media encoder and include chapter markers that will be picked up by encore? In the past few PP versions I have been using export movie and it imported into Encore with all chapter markers named as I named them in premiere. Now when I export a video and import it into Encore it doesnt recognize the markers. Maybe I need to add more info, I'm attempting that now. I know if I export directly to Encore it does, but I like saving my final projects as stand alone avi's for future use and it would be nice if I could save those markers along with it. I guess that brings up another question, if they don't show up in Encore, do they show up in premiere? If so then I guess its not a big loss.
    Thanks Again!

You need to use DVD Markers in CS4 for Encore to recognise them.
See: FAQ:How do I export chapter markers for use in Encore?

  • Quicktime X does not recognize Chapter Markers

I am exporting media in Quicktime format with H.264 codec.
I have three markers labeled as Encore Chapter Markers.
When I open the rendered .mov file in Quicktime Player 7, there are three chapters at the correct timecodes (0:03, 0:18, 0:33).
When I open the rendered .mov file in Quicktime X, there are three chapters all at the first chapter’s timecode: 0:03.
    Why is this not working?
I am using Adobe Premiere Pro 6.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.8.4.

For those with a similar problem, I read somewhere on the Apple forums that Metadata Hootenanny will add chapter tracks that appear correctly in QuickTime X. http://www.applesolutions.com/bantha/MH.html
I can confirm it works for me!!!! The chapter tracks show up in Metadata Hootenanny just fine, so it’s a matter of importing the file and saving it again with Chapter Track enabled. Yayayayay!

  • Sequence within sequence... do chapter markers come with it at QT?

    Hi,
I've had a look around, can't see this and have searched. When I drop a sequence into a sequence, do the chapter markers come with it so when I QT them and send to IDVD, the sequence chapters will be there or on the new timeline with the completed sequences, should I (again) add markers?
    Thank you.

Never used that feature, wouldn't have known it would keep the timeline markers, but a good solution.
Only caveat is that it doesn't show the markers in the nest itself. (if one wanted to have the visual reference.)
I've never been really hip on using nests, preferring to dupe seqs, with incremental naming...personal preference.

  • Problem with creating chapter-markers

    Hi everyone,
as the title already says it, I've got a problem with creating chapter markers in Quicktime Pro 7.6.4. There's something wrong with the font, displayed in Quicktime. The problem first appeared a few days ago. Before this, everything went fine and I don't have a clue what causes the problem.
Please click HERE to see a screen-recording of the steps I do to create chapters:
    - convert the chapters into unformatted text and save it as Unicode (UTF-16) text file.
    - open it in Quicktime and everything (including the german umlauts) is displayed correct.
    - export it into a Text-file with description
when I open the new text file in Quicktime, the fonts are displayed in asian letters, but when I view it in the Texteditor, the text is almost correct, BUT the umlauts are not ok. So I go on with...
    - correct the umlauts and save a new file as Unicode (UTF-16) again.
After I open the new file in Quicktime, the text is completely gone. As the text file seems to be ok in the Texteditor, I guess there must be something wrong with Quicktime. I tried to reinstall Quicktime 7 from the "Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard" Installation-Disc, but the problem persists.
    I' would appreciate any help...
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Michael

I'm having the exact same issue. I have created my movie in IMovie 09 then under the "share " menu I sent the movie to iDVD. Everything looks fine on screen, but all I get on the final product is the movie.
After digging deeper into the tutorials all they show is dragging a movie into the idvd shell, not sharing via imovie.
Thus I'm currently attempting to create a quicktime movie then drag it into the IDVD shell. I think that way the chapter markers and everything should show up and burnt into the final project. I'm guessing the "share" option with the IDVD from iMovie doesn't work properly???
