Chapter Markers are off from where I set them in FCP HD

I just completed editing a Hip Hop concert with 12 performers. I put chapter markers at the start of each groups performance in FCP HD. When I exported my project I included the chapter markers as well. I used the new iDVD5 to burn the DVD. I DO have DVD Studio Pro but am not effecient with that yet. Anyway, after the long encoding process and burn, I watched the DVD on my set top DVD player.
When I tested out the DVD skipping from one group to the next, it wouldn't go right to the next group! For some reason the markers were coming up 20-30 seconds before the next performance! So you would see the end of the performance you are currently watching before it switched to the next scene or in my case next group.
The Chapter Markers are placed at the very begining of the groups performance so why after I burn the DVD is it putting the markers up to 30 seconds before where I want it?
Should I try to move the markers forward about 20-30 seconds or so? This is annoying because its perfect in FCP HD but its not placing them in the right places in iDVD5. I should be able to skip to each group as if it were a scene in a movie.
Any suggestions?

All your problems are related to not having the Record Keyframes button on (A). If you create a keyframe point for your mask position and then advance a few frames in the timeline and start moving those mask positions, a new keyframe is NOT created. Instead the points for the mask shape, INCLUDING the the keyframed position are re-positioned relative to the amount you moved them.
If you are going to manually set keyframes (not at ALL recommended), then you have to set the keyframe BEFORE you make any changes to the mask.

  • TS1233 How do I get chapter markers for iDVD from Final Cut Pro X?

It seems like a tremendous short-coming that Final Cut Pro X doesn't allow for chapter markers that can be used in iDVD or DVD Pro. Surely there is some way to get used-defined markers from Final Cut Pro X or at least re-define the Final Cut Pro X markers in the DVD authoring applications. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have decided to say that my problem is solved by the work-a-rounds that have been submitted. I STILL don't like the fact tha Apple has decided that DVD's are a thing of the past and therefore (chapter) markers are of no use. That may be true is the publishing world of YouTube, Vimeo, etc. but it certainly NOT true for many of us advanced hobbyists that still like distribution on DVD's to our friends or a more localized (private) community -- especially to those who are not computer literate. If Apple wants to exclude us from their customer base, I suggest that base will become even smaller than their competitors who still have chapter markers in their products. I'll get off my soapbox now. . .

    Regards,

    Hello,
Yes... you need to set the indicator M Ref to billing Document  in the debit memo request in field called Reference mandatory. The transaction for the same is VOV8.
Once you set this, whenever you create a debit memo reques, the system will ask for an Invoice as reference.

  • Scratches on the back of my MacBook Pro, are these from where they machined the aluminium or was this a worker at the factory being careless?

There are lots of uniform scratches that are evenly spaced on on the back of my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), are these from where they machined the aluminium or was this a worker at the factory being careless? They are pretty light scratches and sometimes not visible, has anyone got the same on their laptop?
    Thanks in advance!

There's no way to know the reason why they are there, but it looks like a human mistake.
You have 14 days to return your Mac if you bought it from Apple, so do it and get a new one. This is what you should do if you have any problem

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You need to use the Apple IDs that you created for them for iCloud as well as iTunes. You will also find that you need to use them for messages and face time.

  • Chapter markers and exporting from FCE

Hi guys, hope you can help.
I am trying to export a film from FCE (latest version) into iDVD 08 retaining the chapter markers.
The problem is that it is not happening when I export using the QuickTime Conversion option, since there appears to be no 'chapter markers' option in any drop-down menu there. Of course, there IS that option in the 'Make QuickTime File' export BUT the film (which is in widescreen) then doesn't export as a widescreen file. That only happens if I use the Conversion option and set the size to 1024x576 or whatever. Since this option to set the size doesn't exist in the simpler 'make quicktime file' export option, I'm at a loss to know what to do.
Basically, I either export as a squashed image but keep the chapter markers OR export the film in the correct ratio but with no chapter markers.
    It's really frustrating. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    TP

If you have Quicktime Pro the 16:9 fix is easy.
From FCE export the .mov with Export/Quicktime Movie together with its chapters.
In the QT Pro Player open the exported .mov movie, open its property window (cmd-J), select the Video Track, then open the Visual Settings tab, uncheck Preserve Aspect Ratio and set the Scaled Size to 1024x576, and save.
Now when you import this .mov to iDVD it preserves its 16:9 aspect ratio.

  • VBR to high, what settings and where to set them?

    I have a 40 minute video. In DVDSP preferences I set Mpeg-2 SD 4.3
field order auto, two pass VBR, Bit Rate 6.0Mbps, Max Bit Rate 7.0Mbps,
    motion estimate Best. Background encoding
I got the message back "Video Bitrate Too High"
I thought this would be fine for a 40 minute video. Any advice would be appreciated! Where do you set it and at what numbers??

Glad to help. Thanks for marking the thread as solved. Just so you know you can mark users posts as helpful and solved also. This rewards the helper points and a star as well as making it easy for people searching/lurking to find which specific replies solved or helped the original poster on longer threads.
You probably could of solved your problem by re-encoding and tweaking the bitrate setting but its tough to know where the spikes are unleass you get an analyzer like Digigami's MPressionist Pro. Very cool but its not free so using AC3 audio is often the fix people go for,

  • Photos move from where i place them once published

i've created my site and it's been working great for a couple months. I just added new photos to several pages and they all look fine once published except one page! have tried moving them again in iweb, saving, then publishing again, but same thing - the photos are misplaced and covering text.
    any ideas?? thanks!
    site is http://www.luminousadventures.com
and then on the "Reiki and Bodywork" page is the problem.
(I haven't figured out yet how to have my url forwarding go to individual pages - that's another question!)

well, I solved my problem with a very low-tech solution: since every time my photos would appear about an inch higher than where I'd placed them while in iWeb (once published), i intentionally placed them an inch lower than I wanted (had to do a bit of adjusting since I was guessing where they'd show up), but it worked!
I still don't know why this is only happening on this one page, when all the others I did the same and they are fine.
here's the results: http://www.luminousadventures.com Reiki and Bodywork page

  • Chapter markers lost from quicktime MOV in compressor

I searched on this topic and can't seem to find it specifically. Soo....
When we export from FCP through compressor to an m2v, chapter markers come through fine and appear in DVD SP just fine. However, an editor of mine exported to a quicktime MOV with the chapter markers. The file, when opened in quicktime, show the chapters there.
However. If I run the MOV through compressor using the same set ups, the chapter markers are striped from the resulting file.
I am wondering if there is something I am missing when I have to do this from an MOV with chapters.
    OR
If there is some way to export or extract the chapter marker information in a way that DVD SP can import. The text track that is in Quicktime has a good deal of other information that DVD SP won't accept as a chapter marker file. Argh.
Can FCP export JUST the chapter marker text. I am obviously going to just go in and add the chapter markers to the track in DVD SP myself. But, as everyone knows doing this after compressing to M2V I will no longer be able to have those markers on the exact frame I want due to GOP.
So, I am asking this for the next time I have an MOV with chapters that I want to convert to mpeg2 and retain the markers for DVDSP.
Just so you know... yes. These markers where properly tagged as chapter markers. (obviously because quicktime shows them as such.)
Thanks guys. I know someone else has had to deal with this somewhere.

I must be losing it. I meant to post in this thread.
My chapters are clean. Pretty good at avoiding anything problematic. I even keep spaces out of my folder names because when I learned to use computers they weren't allowed. (only 128 characters too, if I remember correctly)
I have the previous versions of Final Cut Studio. The recent decline of DVD and the economy has eaten my departments budget to upgrade the OS to Leopard and to Studio 2 so FCP 5.1.4, etc.
Maybe this has been fixed in the upgrade?
My editor has upgraded. So, this would be entirely a moot issue if Apple saw fit to make their projects backwards compatible. (Don't get me started on that) I guess I will have to stay on top of my contract editors and sending me an XML so I can work in their projects. Or giving me the M2V's I ask for already rendered.
Until we can upgrade around here.
    thanks for the help tho.

  • Chapter markers offset

I've exported prem pro cc media, opened in Encore and the chapter markers are in different places? They are all displaced from where I set them in prempro cc. Have i got the wrong export settings?

Sorry  you did not get a response to this; it is in a subforum rather than the main Encore forum.
I think.... There was a bug for H.264 that is corrected in the newest update for PR CC.

  • Keeping chapter markers intact when exporting as QuickTime file

Created a 30-minute video in FCP7. Exported using QuickTime Conversion (H.264 file).
When I pulled that QT file into iDVD (wanted a menu from there for this project instead of DVD Studio Pro, this time) -- chapter markers are gone.
    How to get them back?

Exported using QuickTime Conversion (H.264 file).
Why are you exporting as QT conversion to H264? The iDVD authoring process automatically encodes your source files to MPEG 2. You are going through an unneccesary compression cycle that is degrading your video.
Do this from FCP instead: File > Export > QuickTime Movie > Current Settings > Self Contained.
Make sure the marker selection button shows "All Markers" or just "Chapter markers"
Bring that file into iDVD and let it do the rest.

  • Chapter markers

When I first purchased my MacBook Pro, while using Final Cut Express (3.5.1), I would put chapter makers on the time line. As I would use the go to previous edit buttons below the canvas, the cursor would stop on my chapter markers. When I exported in Qtime making sure to select the chapters markers option, and then imported my file into iDVD the markers worked without a problem. Now, after sometime, not really sure when it occured, no matter what I do, I cannot seem to get the chapter markers to work. In Final Cut Express, I notice that the cursor does not stop at my chapter markers. If I export the file (as a QTime movie) and open it with QTime pro, the chapters are visible on the lower right frame of the QTime window. When I take this same file into iDVD, the markers are not there. Not really sure which program is causing this problem. Does anyone have an idea? First time Mac user.

When you export from FCE be sure only "Chapter Markers" are chosen from the Markers pop-up. I have read others who report this is the procedure to get chapters markers to show up in iDVD. If you choose "All Markers" it won't work with iDVD...at least version 6. I find this to be true in my experience. And as Tom notes be sure chapters markers are turned on in iDVD preferences.
