Chapter markers menu out of alignment

When I set chater markers in iMovie and then share to iDVD, I am never happy with the alignments of the "buttons" for the scene selections. The are never positioned nicely and tend to overlap a lot. If I set to "free float" and line the buttons up nicely, then the directional buttons don't operate logically when I operate the final DVD (that is I press down on the remote and it goes left, or something like that).
Does anyone else have this problem. How do you get around it?
Thanks,
Tony

Hi Tony:
Read this regarding chapters in iDVD (it says iDVD 4 but it's the same for 5)

  • Spry menu out of alignment in IE

Not sure if this is the right place ... I am new to Dreamweaver and CSS but I have created a spry menu (horizontal) and everything looks good in all browsers except IE, the main container which is green is out of alignment with the menu bar at the top. I have been fiddling with this for weeks. Any help would be much appreciated. The link is as follow:

PS please reply in language that a rookie can understand.

    Hi Gramps
Thank you … I took a look at the web address you sent me, but couldn’t figure out what I was supposed to do with it! Then I tried setting the individual widths of the menu items and this has improved the appearance in IE to the point where I can live with it. What puzzles me though is why, if the cumulative total of the menu items measure 946 px and the ‘main‘ div also measures 946, they don’t exactly match up exactly lengthwise.
Also your comment about not using ‘absolute’ positioned divs … I have been learning Dreamweaver from the Adobe manual and it recommends that you use absolute positioning for the ‘main’ div and so I thought everything else within the container (other than the container itself which I have set to relative) should be absolute. Are you saying that I should not use absolute for the main div or are you just referring to the menu div? If I don’t use absolute what should I use?
Thanks so much for your assistance, most appreciated.

  • Main menu out of alignment, when first opened in dvd player

    I have a strange problem.....
I have authored a very simple 1menu 1 track 4x3 dvd, something I have done a thousand times..
I have created a .img file.
When I open that file and open the DVD files in dvd player to test it, the menu come on all out of wack and the overlay is not over the button.
It kind of looks like a 4:3 image that is stretched vertically (like anamorphic 16x9) but not centred, the bottom of the frame is cut off...
    BUT
as soon as I got up to the DVD Player menu to "open DVD media" it immediately corrects itself. and all is ok.
any ideas where this glitch is coming from?
    I am running
    Macbook pro 10.4.11
    DVD studio Pro 4.1.2
    Thanks!

I have seen this in the past when the dimensions of the overlay don't match the frame size. It has been a few versions since pixel aspect ratios have been an issue, such as on 16:9 Pan&Scan menus. However, I bet if you go to your photoshop file, you may find that there is some layer in there that has some leftover pixels outisde the canvas. A quick select all-crop will do the trick there. By opening your build or the image in DVD Player you should be seeing pretty much what any othe player would show (avoiding any Simulator-specific anomalies) so I would definitely try to track this one down.
    Hope this helps -

  • Chapter Pics Appear out of order on the iphone with latest update

    Re: Apple's latest update Jan 15th 08
The latest update for the iphone makes it possible to see your chapters and its corresponding pic (chapter guide) in addition to just using the forward and back buttons. Great:)
When I play my movie on the iphone, and I press the chapter button, the chapter titles display perfectly the "chapter guide" list, and when I press the chapter title button it navigates to the correct chapter. However, the pictures next to the chapter titles are not in order. For example, one of them repeats twice for no reason, or might be missing. This causes the rest of the pics to be off by 1. All the chapter markers seem to be aligned correctly in Final Cut, and I am using an apple preset setting for export the iphone in Compressor 3.
Does the iphone read the nearest Keyframe for the pic. I have tried moving the chapter markers 15 frames into the clip in Final cut and still get the same result. My chapters are only 1 min clips. Is that the issue?
Please Help, I am ready to release a new product on the web.
Any help to solve this one would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Craig Donen.

I am using the latest version of Final Cut.
I want to know if this a Final cut issue or an iphone issue. Do my chapter markers have to be positioned further into the middle of each clip in Final Cut to get the iphone to show the correct pic on the new chapter guide feature. This is a brand new feature of the iphone, and I am sure many others are having the same issue.
    Thanks,

  • Chapter Markers won't show up on Chapter Menu when trying to burn a DVD.

    Help,
Trying to burn an SD DVD disc in FCP X from the Share menu.  I've set Orange Chapter Markers with Titles in my project from the timeline and these don't appear when I check the box to use chapter markers for Subtitles in the Destinations box to burn a DVD.  I've set a photo in the main menu and it appears with the Title of my Project, but in the Chapter Menu it only shows the default list of Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc.  Shouldn't my Chapters show up on the list after they've been set up on my timeline in the project?  Also, I tried burning a disc with my Chapters not showing up on the chapter list and my disc only plays from the Main menu where the picture is inserted.  There's a slash line in the Chapter list button stating I can't use that option and I can't play chapters.  Trying to get this project out the door before January 20, 2013.  Can someone please help?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Can you post some screen shots? The chapter marker dialog box in the timeline. The DVD menu.
    What's playing back the DVD?
Have you tried it without the background image? Build a disk image rather than burn a disc.

  • Is it possible to get Chapter Markers out of FCPX?

It seems like a tremendous short-coming that Final Cut Pro X doesn't allow for chapter markers that can be used in iDVD or DVD Pro. Surely there is some way to get used-defined markers from Final Cut Pro X or at least re-define the Final Cut Pro X markers in the DVD authoring applications. Does anyone know how to do this?

I couldn't figure out any way to do this. A workaround I used was to send to Compressor, add chapter markers there, and burn a DVD from Compressor (with a very limited menu), or export media from FCP X and import into iMovie to add chapter marks, then send to iDVD.
I agree that lack of DVD publishing support is a tremendous shortcoming of FCP X.

  • Chapter markers work with menu, need to use chapters without menu

I have made my video in FCP and followed all instructions found on discussions and in the manual on how to make chapter markers and export using QT with chapter markers. In iDVD the chapters show up under scene selections, but I don't want to use them this way. I only want to move forward/backwards in the movie using a remote, without going back to the menu.
Do I need to use a specific template to do this, what else could I be doing wrong?
The video is for an opera, I can't have the video going back to menu during the performance!

Are you trying to do this in iDVD or how to do it in DVD SP, was a bit unclear and it sounds like you were asking how to do this in DVD SP as an alternative?
Anyway if you drop the video into a track the markers should import and then you just create a button on a menu with the action set to the start of the track and the next/back remote will go back and forth. You can also set scene selections by targeting the markers.
Or is this an iDVD question?
EDIT: iDVD should give you a play all button and a scene selection button but the scenes should play through, I just broke out an old project to double check

  • How do I get chapter markers defined in a compound clip to show up in the DVD menu?

I have created a timeline to burn a DVD/Blu-Ray. The timeline contains 3 compound clips. Each compound clip contains roughly 25 chapter markers.
When I open the Share > DVD dialog, it shows the Chapter button in the preview, but the DVD itself doesn't have the chapter markers.
Expected Result: When I define Chapter markers in a compound clip, they should show up on a DVD burned from a timeline that used the compound clip.
Actual Result: The DVD does not contain the chapters button, nor do the chapter skip buttons do anything. It's as if the chapters were never defined.
Workaround: Redefine all the chapter markers in the new timeline over the compound clips - Annoying!
Is there a simple way to get FCPX to recognize the chapter markers defined in the compound clip when I burn the project? It would save me quite a bit of time!!
    Thanks, all, for your help!

Thanks for the tip. I was looking for this feature, but it was not included in the context menu. It can be found in the "Clip" menu.
I think the best workflow for me would be this:
    Edit in a master timeline
Select the entire master time line, send to compound clip.
Create a new project, add the compount clip
Add the chapter markers to the new project
Select everything in the new project, create a second compound clip. This makes the chapter markers portable.
Open up the "burn" project, insert the second compount clip.
Select the newly inserted compound clip, and select "Break Apart Clip" from the "Clip" menuThe result is a managable compound clip with chapter markers.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!

  • Chapter markers out of FCP???????

I've read some previous posts but am still confused? I've been exporting straight into Compressor with chapter marks and it's been working great in DVDSP.
Now I'm exporting using File>Export using>Quicktime. I did a test with all the examples with chapter markers, DVDSP markers, etc. BUT none of my markers come up in DVDSP after using a Droplet on my desktop????
Please help. Why is it when I use a Droplet from an exported quicktime movie that my markers are not showing up in DVDSP????
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

Hi everyone and can I just say thank you to everybody who helped me on this and other requests for assistance. This is a formidable forum. I've learnt so much just by browsing through the topics in general and there are clearly people out there who care very much about sharing tips and experiences.
Anyway back to the topic - chapter markers not coming across from FCP.
Yesterday, my revised workflow succeeded in getting 16 out of 18 chapter markers across ( which I can live with though not sure why the delinquent two failed to complete the journey ). So what I learnt ( and this contradicts the manual and the Lynda.com tutorials ) is that it is important to put no text into the Marker Dialogue box where it says Comment ( one of you guys stated that ) , it is really important not to make the marker both a Chapter marker and a Compression marker ( I know that that's stating the obvious !! but I was desperate to try every set of possibilities ) and the workflow only then works when you select Chapter Markers when making the QT movie. It DOESN"T work at all when you select DVD Studio Pro markers for some reason.
One thing I've inferred from the forum is that these things tend to vary according to which versions of ( say ) Leopard, FCP, Compressor and DVDSP people are using. A number of people have mentioned that workflows that worked previously no longer work, as newer versions of the various programmes are installed.
It's a minefield but at least it's not Vista !!!!!!
Thanks again to everyone , I've learnt so much from this forum. Cheers Doug

  • Is there any way to add chapter markers running Mavericks? Is there a reason they have been stripped out the new OSX?

Is there any way to add chapter markers running Mavericks? Is there a reason they have been stripped out the new OSX?

Is there any way to add chapter markers running Mavericks? Is there a reason they have been stripped out the new OSX?
Depending on your choice of workflows, it appears you can still
    1) Add chapter marks manually with QT 7 Pro,
    2) Add chapter markers graphically using GarageBand,
    3) Use a video editor to set chapter markers graphically,
    4) Use a DVD conversion/burning app to set specific or add equi-interval chapter markers, or
    5) Use a media/device player that adds playback only chapter makers when no chapter track is embedded within the file.
What kind of chapter markers are you referring to here? Mine are not "stripped out" during normal use but can be automatically removed during various conversion workflows.

  • Refresh chapter index menu after I move chapter markers?

    Hi
Does DVDSP4 have any automatic way of refreshing the chapter index menu if I move, delete or add chapter markers in my video track? Or do I have to trash the chapter menus and recreate them?
    Thanks!
    Matt

If you only move the markers then the menus you have got will still work. If you remove or add markers then you'll need to re-create the menus... they do not automatically update.
Just delete all of your chapter menus from the outline view, then add a new menu. Drag the track icon into the menu editor for this new menu and hold it a moment before releasing the mouse button. Choose the option to create chapter menus, and select the theme that you want.

  • Chapter Markers without Chapter Breaks in the menu

When one plays a rented movie from Netflix et al, it is possible to skip to key points in the movie by pushing the skip button on the DVD clicker. I would like to create such invisible "chapters" without having an addl menu with 4 5-minute chapters for each 20 minute chapter I create for a longer DVD. I'm putting (lots of) old 8 mm film on a DVD for family members to scan and find old friends. I want them to be able to quickly get back to scenes they remember.

Are you using iDVD to burn? If you create chapter markers in the FCE project then export to Quicktime Movie and import to iDVD it will create a Scene Selection page, but you will also be able to use the skip button on the remote to skip between chapters while watching the movie.
It might be also that you can delete the Chapter Selection window if not wanted, and this "skip" function will still work, but I don't know for sure.

  • Forgot chapter markers...out of luck?

So i just sent my sequence through compressor and forgot to add chapter markers. I want to import the m2v into dvd studio pro and have dvdsp automatically make a chapters sub menu, but it can't do that if this file doesnt have markers. is there anyway i can add them now before importing? thanks!

Here's the possible problem. markers can only be on Iframes and audio wouldn't have Iframes. I seem to remember that there was some sort of xml utility that would extract the marker locations and bring them into dvdsp, but again, there might be a problem with markers being on illegal frames.

  • Getting Chapter markers out of Compressor

I have a 70 minute timeline in FCP with Chapter markers defined. I output it to a Quicktime.mov and use Compressor 2 to MPEG it.
Seems that no matter which way I ask Compressor to encode it, it never seems to bring those Chapter Markers through. I take the completed .m2v and .ac3 file into DVD Studio pro and there is no hint of the green Chapter markers in the DVDSP timeline.
I set Compressor to use FCP metaData and/or bring Chapter markers ONLY across the encode, but Zilch!
    Any ideas?
    G5 Quad 2.5 Ghz with 2.0 TB RAID   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    John:
Try selecting your video track in DVDSP timneline, Ctrl-click and select Import Embedded Markers.
Remember that you must crate your markers in FCP timeline and NOT on the sequences items. Check this link: Chapters and Compression Markers (from www.kenstone.net site)
    Hope that helps !

  • Encore chapter markers which move with clip

Problem: Encore chapter markers which move with clip
    CS4 Production Suite
    XP Pro SP3
I have 9 sequences with each containing 4 Encore chapter markers. As expected in the real world, the end users continually want edits to the sequences. If I razor out a piece of a clip in the sequence, the Encore chapter markers stay fixed to the time ruler and do not move with the clip. As a result, one has to manually move each Encore chapter marker to re-align with the proper location on a clip. This is time consuming and makes no sense. Is there anyway for the Encore chapter markers to act like clip markers so they move with edits?
If not, does someone have a plugin which would look at the Encore chapter markers in a sequence and place corresponding clip markers on Video 1. After editing, the plugin could re-align the Encore chapter markers with their respective clip markers.

What is needed are Encore Chapter Clip Markers so Encore markers follow the clip. Just as you would move the current-time indicator to the frame where you want an Encore chapter point and then right click (Windows) in the time ruler and choose the type of marker, a new context menu item "Encore Chapter Clip Marker" would be available which would place an Encore chapter marker on the clip in the currently selected video track. With this, one could edit the sequence and know the Encore chapter point is still at the same frame of the clip.
I encourage others to either copy this feature description or their own version and submit it to the Feature Request Page for Premiere.
    Feature Request Page
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
One should submit this Feature to both Premiere and Encore since both are effected. By the way, Encore has a Feature Request user form you may also want to submit this to. Premiere does not appear to have a Feature Request user form so I used the Feature Request Page mentioned above.
