Chapter markers not working

I have a Quicktime movie created in Final Cut with chapter markers, but they are not being recognized by iDVD. None are anywhere near the beginning or end or each other. The show up and work fine in Quicktime Player.
iDVD is supposed to create a scene selection menu along with the movie start button but it is not happening. I tried exporting the Quicktime with various marker settings, export chapter markers, all markers, and DVD Studio Pro markers. Nothing works.
Any thoughts?

First repair permissions on your main HD. Then drag the plist for iDVD6 to the trash. Empty it. Then restart the computer. plist looks like this:
com.apple.iDVD.plist
Now try again to reposition the back button after selecting the buttons pane and checking the box that says "free position."
(You should see a tiny hand in the preview window that looks like a clutched fist. You don't have to actually select the back arrow button but simply move the mouse over it and then keep the left mouse button down to drag it about the preview window to the desired position within the TV safe area).
I'm currently using a Logitech 2 button mouse. If your own apple mouse only has one button, then the above procedure could be a bit more complicated.
Post back and let us know if this helps.

  • FCP video chapter markers not accepted by DVD SPro

When I had FCP chapter markers in the timeline and then used compressor, they appeared in DVD Studio Pro. But in realizing that I couldn't cut out any footage in FCP without ruining all of the markers I had made following that point in the timeline it was suggested that I add chapter markers onto the video itself. The markers were no longer visible as windows in the Canvas, we got them to appear in the Viewer (view-playhead sync-open). BUT... Now, these markers attached to the video (and not the Time line) appear to not be working when I open a compressed sequence in DVD Studio Pro. How can this delemna be solved?

Ok, so if this is true (about "Chapter Markers set in FCP to work in DVD-SP, they HAVE to be set to the Timeline"), does it not seem a little silly for FCP (using latest Studio updates etc) to give people the option of utilizing "chapter" markers set to the video if they don't actually work?
By the way I'm using all of the latest FCS updates and exported using File: Export: Using compressor and then opening up DVD SP and importing assets etc.
Could there not be an easier way rather than having to wait until the VERY end of the editing process to add Chapter markers to the Timeline because otherwise they get all wacked out of sink if you cut out or add any video/audio?

  • Solution to chapter markers not showing up in iDVD

I've been having a problem with my chapter markers from FCE not transferring properly in iDVD06. I'd export a QT movie from FCE HD, the chapters would show up fine if I opened the file in QT, but placing the movie in iDVD would bring in the movie sans chapters.
I've been using the "all markers" option in FCE's export window, but today I discovered that I needed to select "chapter markers" instead. When I choose the "Chapter Marker" option, everything imports fine into iDVD.
I haven't tried using markers otherthan chapter markers along with chapter markers, thus I don't know if the "all markers" option would work if I had additonal types of markers present.

You need to toggle on "show overlays" in the canvas and/or viewer display.
You access it via the rightmost icon of the three above the canvas display or from the VIEW menu or with SHIFTOPTIONW

  • Chapter markers not appearing in DVDSP

I have a movie in FCP (NTSC, 4:3 SP) with several chapter markers. I exported the movie from FCP as Quicktime with "All Markers" selected. I viewed the file with QT, and the markers showed up. I compressed the movie using compressor. I imported the compressed movie into DVDSP, and the markers didn't show up.
I looked at the various related messages here, and the suggestion to use the uncompressed file to establish the markers sounded good. I imported the uncompressed file, oops, no chapter markers.
I checked my software revisions, and updated Quicktime to 7.1.1. per the Apple site. I re-created the Quicktime file using FCP and imported it, uncompressed, again into DVDSP -- no markers.
I exited everything. I started FCP, created a brand-new project, imported a small clip, set 3 markers, 1 chapter, 1 chapter+compression, 1 chaptercompressionscore. I exported the file as QT with "all Markers" selected. I viewed the file with QT, and the markers are there. I put this QT file into a new project in DVDSP -- no markers showed up at all.
We can ignore Compressor for the time being, as DVDSP doesn't see the markers even if Compressor is not used. The culprit seems to be DVDSP. Is there some DVDSP setting that needs to be set to get it to recognize markers? I've had it work ok in the past, I don't know what's changed.
    thanks for any help!!!

I don't know why people post that advice. It's flat out wrong. Sorry you got bad directions.
Anyways, If you're exporting out to DVD and your QuickTime Movie will be compressed via Compressor or DVDSP's internal encoder, do not export using All Markers because that embeds the marker data in a way that DVDSP and Compressor cannot properly parse. If you're going to send to Compressor or DVDSP's internal encoder, select DVD Studio Pro Markers during export from FCP.
Selecting DVDSP Markers exports Chapter, Compression and Cut markers. Cut markers are created by FCP whenever you make a cut in the timeline. With cut markers present, every time your start a new clip - or you simply use the Add Edit command (Control-V) - it's the same as adding a compression marker, in that it greatly improve encoding forcing an I-frame in the GOP.
And, for what it's worth, there is no need to flag a marker as both a chapter and a compression marker - chapter markers are automatically compression markers. They force an I-frame in the GOP structure, just like a compression marker

  • CHAPTER BUTTON NOT WORKING ON FINAL BD-DISC

    Hello,
I read several posts here about chapter issues but none of them addressed exactly to my problem.
So I have my HD (blu-ray) project on Encore 5 and have set 8 chapter markers. Each one is linked to a menu button that works perfectly.
It`s a simple project and works fine on the preview. But not on the final disc when playing in the BD player.
The next button on the remote control does not works. It also shows chapter 1/1.
The end actions set on each chapter is a link to the next chapter. E.g - The end actions set to chapter 2 a links to chapter 3. Except to the last chapter that has no end actions set.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    I appreciate any helps!
    Bruno

I'm not sure if this is a playlist.
I've just set the chapter markers on the timeline.
Anyway, Is possible to use chapters on Encore for BD discs and have them work on blu-ray player remote control?
    Thanks!

  • Video chapter markers not showing in iTunes

I used Metadata Hootenanny to add chapter markers in a movie.
When I play the movie through Quicktime it shows the pop-up chapter selector, but when i import the movie into iTunes and play it through iTunes, the controls don't show the chapter markers.
I've seen the chapter markers working fine in iTunes for movies purchased in the iTunes Store.

  • Premiere CC Chapter markers not frame accurate in Encore CS6

So I just made a video with 30 chapter markers at distinct cuts in the timeline using Premiere CC and exported that to an MPEG-2 video as I would in CS6. After importing the MPEG-2 file into Encore CS6 and making a New Timeline the Chapter Markers do show up but they are now all 3-15 frames early per chapter which also means none of the chapter thumbnails are going to be accurate. It's easy to check this with both programs just compare the timecode number at each chapter point in the timeline of Premiere CC then Encore CS6.
Also noticed that the Add Chapter Marker tool that was in the Premiere CS6 timeline is missing in CC, just the Add Marker tool is there now. Couldn't find a way to add the Add Chapter Marker tool to the timeline group of tools.

The .xmpses file contains the chapter information, at least for CS6 and earlier.  You can test this by removing that file before importing into Encore.  You won't get any chapters.
Not sure where Adobe is putting chapter data for CC, but it must be somewhere because the chapters are there.
So I ran two tests, one from CS6 and one from CC7.  In both cases I added three chapter marks, two where I knew there would not be an I-frame in the exported .m2v, and one where there would be.  Both exports came into Encore with the chapter makers right where I put them, which surprises me because there were no I-frames at two of those points and Encore did not 'legalize' them as I'm accustomed to with my production machine.  (Ran this test on my personal machine.)  I could move the markers off those points, but could not put them back because, like I said, the DVD spec only allows them on I-frames.
I did not burn to test whether or not Encore would move the chapters that weren't on I-frames.  I'd be confused if it didn't, though.

  • Premiere CS4 DVD Chapter Markers Not Exporting

The Encore chapter markers do not appear when I import the files into Encore. I am exporting with the "MPEG2-DVD" preset and importing into Encore.  I tried Dynamic Link in both directions to/from Encore. btw, Dynamic Link "Send to Encore" creates a new Encore project. I want to add to an existing project.
I see no settings in the Media Encoder prefs or in the Main Concept "H.264" preset. This used to be automatic. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you used Encore DVD Markers in your Pr sequence and not just ordinary sequence markers.
Make sure you named the markers and didn't leave the Name field blank.
Make sure you export XMP Metadata like so:
And to add more than one Pr sequence to En, or to add Pr sequences to an existing En project, you have to start from inside En.  Open the En project and use the File | Adobe Dynamic Link command.

  • Chapter markers not making it to DVD SP

Hi everybody. I don't see chapter markers I expected to find in my DVD SP project. This was my first time placing chapter markers in FC and it was my understanding they would appear in the DVD SP timeline. Here's my workflow:
I exported a sequence from FC that had four chapter markers using 'quicktime movie'/current settings/not self contained/'include DVD SP markers'. Opened in compressor and exported at best settings for 90-minute film for SD DVD with 'include DVD SP metadata' selected. (should I have also selected 'include chapter markers only'?)
I brought the clip into DVD SP and placed it into track one. No markers. Do I have to do something to make DVD SP find the markers? Have I made a mistake?
Note: the chapters show up when I open the .mov file in Quicktime but not when I open the M2v file in Quicktime.

In FCP, how did you create the Chapter Markers? The proper way is to hit the m key twice, then click the CHAPTER button. The markers HAVE TO BE on the Timeline - not on the clips (deselect any clips BEFORE adding Chapter Markers).

  • Chapter Markers Not Encoding Correctly

    Greetings:
I saw a similar situation as this in a previous post on here....has anyone had success in finding a solution to the problem?
    Problem:
Chapter Markers with an indicated end jump point of the previous chapter marker do not loop back when triggered during playback; instead the viewer is taken 2 chapter points back etc.
Can't preview or simulate the burn because it crashes DVD SP each time now
    Project Details:
1 Track with various clips expanded for time etc. (if a still image) and broken apart by chapter markers geared for live-action performance
Specific chapter markers are set to have an end jump set to the previous chapter marker to act as a looping video element which a user can advance out of by selecting the next forward chapter on their DVD player
Any thoughts as to why this project encoded weird or ways to avoid the same problem if I remove the build files? I am running ver. 3 and I have done this before without any problem.

    figured out a workaround

  • How do you get Chapter Markers to work when burning a Blu-ray Disc in FCP7?

I created my first-ever Blu-ray disc yesterday, using FCP7. My edited video was 95 minutes long -- it took 10 hours to encode and burn the disc, using an external Blu-ray burner.
The Blu-ray disc looks and sounds great -- but my 21 chapter markers are nowhere to be found. When I play back the disc in my standalone Blu-ray player, clicking "next" on the remote simply advances the video in 30-second increments (instead of taking me to the chapter markers I'd carefully created in FCP -- because this was a music concert performance, the markers are important and I need them to work.)
    Somebody please help ...

    Hi Larry,
just to clarify in the 'edit markers' dialogue box you have clicked 'Add Chapter Marker' button and this has added the text '<CHAPTER>' to the 'comment' box.

  • Chapter Markers Not Recognized

I am using iLife09 and have been unable to have iDvd recognize the chapter markers created in iMovie projects. I have set iDvd preferences to accept the markers. What am I doing wrong?

    Two thoughts on this
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapter mark set in very beginning of movie
*iDVD BUG* - is provoked by creating an iDVD project, finding something that needs to be
corrected in movie, close iDVD and correct movie, open iDVD and it will ask to
Update or Cancel ? - Neither works - All chapters points to same place and other nasty
    things happens.
    Medicine
Start a brand new iDVD project and import material/movies and re-do.
*Chapter at start of movie* - Doesn't work - iDVD has to set this by it self else it gets confused.

  • Blu-ray disc chapter buttons not working on authored disc.

    Hi all,
I've created many SD dvd's with chapter menus without problem. However, my first attempt at a blu-ray disc is causing me trouble.
I'm running Enore CS4 under Windows 7. I had to install the "pxengine4_18_16a" driver because Encore CS4 was hanging up when i selected the "BLU-RAY" format under the Build tab. After i got Encore CS4 working, i started assembling the BD video.
I linked all of the chapter menu buttons to chapter playlists pointing to single chapter points in the timline. I tested the BD in Preview. It shows that the menu buttons are linked properly and are functioning. However, the authored BD disc isn't playing the chapters after selecting the chapter menu buttons. All of the other BD disc buttons work like; PLAY ALL, RESUME, MENU, MAIN MENU, just not the actual buttons that play the various chapter points on the timeline.
Is this a result of installing the "pxengine4_18_16a" driver or something else?
Has anyone encountered this problem with BD authoring?

The BD is not playing properly on the pc or a standalone?
I test BD first as an iso with Power dvd ultra with Virtual Clone DVD.
If the menu works properly its the standalone, might burn with a lower speed.
When dvd came out first there was a lot of incompatibilities, history is repeating itself.

  • Markers not working properly?

    Hello,
Here's what I'm doing - I drag a movie into FCP. I then double click it so I see the video in the preview window. I'm not moving through the video with the play button, scroll bar, etc... and when I see video portions I want, I hit "M" for "Mark". Everything seems to mark fine. I can even click on the marks and see what I want. However, When I go in the "Browser", under the video you'll see a list of all the marks. I double click on one and it brings me to part of the video, but never the place that I actually marked. Any ideas?

    Hey!
The video was ingested by someone else for us and given to me as 1 file on a firewire hard drive. It's ProRes 422 HQ, Standard Definition. Someone else showed me that you can do a shift-up arrow/down arrow or something which is taking me to the next/previous marker just fine. For some reason though, when I try to double click them in the browser is when it takes me to another part of the video instead of the marked one. Is the double click supposed to work in the browser?
    Thanks!

  • Podcast Markers Not Working in IOS 5?

I have noticed podcast bookmarks getting "lost" on the iphone since updating to IOS5.  Turning OFF wireless syncing over WiFi seems the correct the issue, but I'm not certain yet.  Will do some more testing today.
Example:  A podcast I listened to conclusion yesterday, was marked as "unlistened to" in iTunes after a wireless sync.  As soon as I turned OFF wireless syncing (in iTunes, for the iPhone) and synced over the cable, the podcast was correctly marked as "listened to".
Looks like wireless sync isn't the issue.  I was listening to a podcast when a call came in.  After I ended the call, the podcast started over from the beginng instead of where it left off.
Also noted that the NEXT episode of a given podcast does not automatically start anymore, as it did in the previous IOS.

I am also having difficulty with podcast bookmarks in IOS 5 on my Ipod Touch 4. It no longer remembers where it was if I play a song and then return to the podcast. And it does not mark the podcasts as listened to. The podcasts return to the beginning.
Is there someplace we can report these bugs to Apple?
