Chapter question

Hello.
I have a question about creating chapters in iMovie 5.0.2 and then burning to iDVD 5.0.1. Here's what I have and here's what I want to accomplish, if possible.
I have imported a total of about 1 hour of video into iMovie. It's from a concert band performance. The footage was on a total of 3 different tapes, each with different sections on the tape.
The final "look" of the DVD is to have 3 "titles" on the main menu - tape 1, tape 2 and tape 3...then when you click on tape 1 it would bring you to another menu with 5 or 6 choices or diffrent "scenes" from within that tape...
WHEW! Is this possible with iMovie and iDVD?
If I'm unclear about what I want to accomplish, please let me know and I'll try to explain better.
Thanks for any input!
Mike

Yes it is possible, but you need to ask yourself whether or not you want chapters or a lot of separate movies. The difference? When you select a "chapter" that selects a start point, but the movie will keep on playing into the next chapter - that is it does not return to the submenu when the chapter is over.
I think you want a lot of separate movies. If you create 3 "folders" this makes 3 submenus. Call them "Concert A" "Concert B" "Concert C".
Then select each "song" in iMovie and export to full quality DV. Choose "selected clips only" to keep from exporting the whole tape.
Then drag the exported DV movies into each submenu you created.
This will then play just the selected song when the button is chosen on the submenu, and return to the menu when that one song is finished.
Make sense?
Also try reading this for more help with iDVD.

  • IDVD create chapter question

hi all, I just want to verify something about chapters, if you'll help me out. Here is how I understand how chapters are created:
I am using Final cut express, putting in chapters where needed. I export to "quicktime movie" . Then, I import that MOV into iDVD and my "scenes" menu is generated. great.
Using FCE, when I "export using quicktime conversion" I cannot get my scene menu generated. Is that true? Is this just a restriction on the way it works. I really need that Scenes menu.
The reason I want "export using quicktime conversion" is because I want to modify the settings - I want H.264 and higher quality. The default quality is just not good enough.
If I cannot get Scenes generated using my method, I will have to render each chapter and there are 14 of them! ugh. Please advise. Thank you!

I think you will get a better response if you post this in the FCE forum:

I am asking the hosts to move this thread to that forum.

  • Another Chapter question....

    Hi FCE users...
Having a few chapter issues here...I've followed Ken Stone's instructions to the letter (and the posted suggestions here) and export to Quicktime, choose chapters etc, and when i open the file in QT it sees the chapters. iDVD preferences have chapters checked.
Disc one is 50 mins long, 6 chapters. But they don't show !
I'm really sure i'm doing all the right stuff....am I?
When i put the disc into the DVD player, i didn't even get the 'front page' from iDVD, it went straight to play.
I UN-CHECKED auto play in the first place !
I use OS 10.4.5, FCE HD 3, iDVD 6.o.1 and FWIW I have Toast 7.0.2
I'm coming under pressure from work, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
If it comes to it, I'll import to iMovie and do it that way, but I am loath to do that....
    cheers all...

If you get no joy on the iDVD forum, can you post a step by step of what you are doing. A simple thing may be overlooked.

  • Audiobook Questions

I have a second generation nano. I am running iTunes 7 on a XP PC. I have a few questions about audiobooks. First, I have 3 complete books bought from iTunes that I have transfered to my nano. From the documentation I have read, it sounds to me like you are able to skip "chapters" by pressing the FF button. When I do this, the nano skips to the next "part" of the audiobook. What I mean is when I bought these books, they came down in multiple parts (ie. Rainbow 6 part 1 of 3...and so on.)So, since I have 3 books all with multiple parts when I hit the ff button it skips to the next part in line whether it is part of the same book or not. Is this normal? It would make sense to me that hitting the FF button would skip to the next chapter in a selected book and then stop at the end of that book. I have read on a few posts that some folks are combining the parts into one mp4b file (if I got the file extension right). This makes sense to me but how do you go about merging the files into one.
I am more concerned with the chapter question. I have both a printed version and a iTuens downloaded version of the same book which I would like to read and listen to. It would be great if I could skip chapters on the audio version instead of trying to seek to the desired spot.
I know this is a little long in the tooth but I wanted to be as clear as possible.

I figured it out ... I turned off Shuffle and the books flow straight through now. (I didn't think Shuffle affected these files since they were saved as audiobooks instead of as music, but it did.)

  • Study source for 1Z0-051 exam Oracle11g SQL Fundamentals certification

    Greetings,
What are some good sources for this exam that are legit. I have the OCA/OCP Oracle Database 11g All-in-One Exam guide, read the whole section regarding SQL and have practiced the test questions until I scored 100% multiple times. Yet (with all humility), I failed the exam. I don't want to cheat and will keep trying until I pass it the right way! I'm going to keep studying the areas I need to really master., but I noticed that the real Exam was nothing like the practice exam. For me, the real exam was a lot trickier and there were a few questions that the book didn't cover. The guy working at the test center recommended testking but upon further research, some sites consider using testking as cheating. I have not purchased any new study guides and would like feedback to some legit study guides. Is the transcender study guide legit and worth it? Please pardon me if this question has been asked a dozen times. I will scour the forums for more info regarding this but also wanted some direct feedback.
    Thank you,
    A mon

    Rene,
Thanks for the link and the advice. Very helpful! And yes, it got to the point where I knew some of the answers before I finished reading the questions.
    Thanks,
A monI was going to say possibly the cheapest way is buy the sybex Book : ISBN-13: 9780470395127 which is like the Watson Book ... but it isn't that cheap andalso coves 1z0-052 which you don't need.
( Selftest Sofware is reputed to be good, Transcender a little better (they are both Kaplan Brans and overlap common material). Ucertify may be cheapter but quality may be less. And make sure you get the right site and not a phishing link pretending to be them.
.... wsa it you who i said to try the exam and see where you were really at ? .. if so sorry and better luck next time. Perhaps though it is an opportunity to revise study technique.
    See: http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/entry/question_of_the_day_how_to_pre
.... Doing your own flash cards and notes can be useful.
I always regard practice questions as precious and leave it as late as possible in study before doing questions.
(If you must peek ahead choose a chapter just before half way through the book and do end of chapter questions for that only).
But I won't even do end of chapter practice questions until I think I know the whole exam topics and have notes on all the material.
Only when I think I know it all will I do even end of chapter questions.
And I wont do them if I have read up on the topics during the day. I will wait until the next day.
And after doing end of chapter results I re-read the chapter and topics and practice. But I wont redo those questions for a few days
And only when I get good enough practice score from the chapter do I take a full practice test.
Basic principle is concentrate on learning and use the precious study ids to fill the gaps. It's a little slower getting there that way but these is more chance of a pass.

  • 1z0-052  11G Admin 1 Exam

Please can i get some feedback on the "difficulty" of the 1z0-052 admin 1 exam? Sometime ago I passed the Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i DBA 1 course, and wondered how it compared to these.
I am using the ORacle Press OCA book, by John Watson, and I have just about passed the practice tests, so also wondered close these are in "difficulty" to the real thing?
    Thanks in advance!

As a rule of thumb 'just about passed the practice tests' is probably not good enough.
Its an indicator more study is required.
IMHO a better target is something like to be 85% certain you have an 85% probability of achieving a mark half way between the pass mark and 100%.
For the practice tests to be an reasonable indicator of exam performance:
-- You must not have seen the questions before.
-- You should not have revised immediately before taking the practice test (this applies especially to end of chapter questions).
-- Assume the practice tests are a little easier than the real one and will overestimate you score by 10-15% (though sometimes the quality may be less .. and some asnwers may be more amibiguous). And sometimes the questions may be shorter .

  • Are there any 1z0-051 Sample Exams?

I am a person working in Java but I am planning to give 1Z0-051 exam in march. Have been studying from SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide - Watson. But reading through threads and seeing people having bad experience with his book questions not matching with exam, I am re-thinking what to do? PrachiMy personal opinio n is if you know SQL well enough, and use the study guide to sharpen the edge of ones understanding, then one should be okay.
    So IMHO the candidate who:
    1) Learns SQL independently of the study guide
    2) Makes own notes and
    3) Downloads study guide errata
    4) Uses the study guide to fine tune knowledge up to exam standard.
    5) Refer to Oracle documentation and practice to resolve any uncertainties, practice this learned, or areas found difficult.
    6) Perform gap analysis against latest published topics
    7) Never take a practice test after revising that day.
    8) Only then does end of chapter questions .. and spend times investigating any wrong answers. ( Yes sometime these books can be wrong/ambiguous).
Stands a good chance of doing well ... provided they are able to understand the questions (ie poor english / japanese might be unhelpful; and an inability to rad a question carefully, exactly and properly will be a problem).
( If all else fails read the question ...... as an ex techer of mine used to drum into us week in an week out ).
    However if a candidate:
    - studies only by using a study book.
    - immediately does questions and repeatedly does same questions.
There is a real danger on overly relying on the questions given rather than being able to answer any question on the given topic and having gaining real practice and understanding of the things being learnt.
If you really need additonal practice questions you can pay your money for these official one:
These are available from the certification website at http://certificaton.oracle.com - preparation - practice tests ..... (and linked to by announcements posts in this forum)... so I guess Oracle would hope Candidates would find them.
... (NB: only buy one of hte Kaplan offerings ... )
At an extreme case if a person had does question 6 fives days in a week by the 5th day the person may know the answer is A,B,D without even knowing the answer!
    7) Then takes the sample exams on the CDROM (One at a time).

  • Books for beginners

Hi is there any good books for beginners in java i would like to buy one for reading over the holidays. To go over what i have learn during the year.Thank you.

I'm sure that there are a great many books on the subject..... one book that I never see among lists that are available on Q/A forums like this is "Introduction To Java Programming 7ed by Y. Daniel Liang." I am still just a beginner like most on this forum, so why would I be so biased? Well I do not own the majority of books on any list, but I can say that my book explains things on an elementary level, up to very advanced. How do I know that? The chapters are many, from; Chap 1, "Intro to computers, programs, and Java programming," to chap 37, "Java Database Programming." Practically every chapter is supplemented with a breadth of work using the current Java classes that are available to anyone, but also many end of chapter questions that reflect reasonable "leaps" form basic to advanced. It includes much more from the companion website as well. In short, you write the programs in the chapter questions, and in doing so become very acquainted with the API. I like the "Head First" book, because it can give a nice angle on a complex subject as well. However, the "Head First" book is kinda written for a separate contingency. If you want to learn to program, you must have many problems to try and destroy. This seems to be the key. You must have the means to try something and try again in order to know where your prior mistakes are. When you realize how you made a mistake, you simply correct it, and this is the very biggest part of learning anything about programming. You have to screw things up on your own!
Again, I am just a beginner like you. But by learning basics, with appropriate chunks of the API, I wind up with an expanding toolkit from chapter to chapter. Get a book that will do this for you. Many books will give you examples for things that you should never be worrying about at first. Then you get used to a "cut/paste" type of situation. Do you really know what you are doing then? Do you think you will get a fantastic response from a learners forum like this? Take it seriously and get the best book you can. It should be very broad reaching and explanatory as well. When I flip through the book that I own, I wonder how I will get to those places. Yet every time that I finish a chapter, I am prepared for the next..... and on it goes. It takes time, and a short book is unrealistic. No book is perfect, but a wise first choice will be priceless.
    Hope this helps. Peace.

You may have  moved or removed content on your page or  its possible you  used the"Adjust Image" and over sharpeed one or more images.
I assume  you mean it does not show up of new Chapter pages... have you checked the  template?
Where you see the  ?    you  need to either reduce teh  box outline size - or drop anther  copy of the original image onto  it, it may  fill the  ? box or sit on top.... delete the ? box.
If its Chapter page only related, its  better doing this in the template.

  • Questions About Chapter 2 in Oracle DB 10g: SQL Fundamentals II

    Hello,
first of all i'm glad to be a member of your forum. I have joined a beginner Oracle Course: Intro to SQL. I'm facing some problems understanding some concepts in Chapter 2 of Oracle Database 10g: SQL Fundamentals II text book. I got about 15 questions. However, i will only ask two questions at first. Since i'm a newbie, please answer it in a simplistic form. Excuse me if you see grammatical mistakes.
Dropping a column can take a while if the column has a large number of values. In this case it may be better to set it to be unused and drop it when the number of users on the system are fewer to avoid extended locks.
    Questions:
"when the number of users on the system are fewer to avoid extended locks."
    1. Can you explain this to me please?! fewer than before? fewer than? What if users kept increasing during the years! then this "fewer" may not happen until the company collapse!
    2. Why do we need to use unused columns? When should we use unused columns?

Great! .... I got more questions, i just do not want to open a new same thread. Thus, i will just post the questions in here and i hope i will get help from experts...Please bare with me guys...The questions are numbered, unnumbered parts are information that helps you understand my question.
Note: just answer what you are willing to, one question or whatever you want. I'm not expecting to get all the answers from one member :)
    Thanks for understanding
    Page 2-7:
Certain columns can never be dropped such as columns that form part of the partitioning
key for a partitioned table or columns that form part of the primary key of an index- organized table.
    Questions:
"columns that form part of the partitioning key for a partitioned table"
*1. Do they mean one table can be split into two different storage? What is the thing that*
link these both tables to make Oracle Server realize these two tables are actually one  table? Is is tablespace_name?
"columns that form part of the primary key of an index-organized table."
*2. Can you clarify the above sentence please*
*3. If i have set of columns that has large amount of data, i rather set them unused then*
drop them because the response time is going to be faster! I do not get it, can you
explain please? What i know is drop drops the column and release the disk space whilst
unused column make the columns useless and does not release disk space yet until we drop them, so
drop column does it in one step unlike taking the unused column process. In brief, i would like to know
why dropping unused columns that has large set of data is faster then dropping the column
    directly...

    4. ALTER TABLE emp2 ADD CONSTRAINT emp_dt_fk
    FOREIGN KEY (Department_id)
    REFERENCES departments ON DELETE CASCADE);
The above query is written in text book. I think it should be written as
ALTER TABLE emp2 ADD CONSTRAINT emp_dt_fk
    FOREIGN KEY (Department_id)
    REFERENCES departments(dept_id) ON DELETE CASCADE;
    Am i correct?
*5. Can you tell me what deferring constraints is in one sentence please? Why do we need it? When do we need it in real-life?*
*7. You can defer checking constraints for validity until the end of the transaction. A*
constraint is deferred if the system checks that it is satisfied only on commit. If a
deferred constraint is violated, then commit causes the transaction to roll back.
I do not understand the above paragraph, please explain. What i know is "end of
transaction" ends with ; or commit
    Page 2-18
    create table test1 (
    pk NUMBER PRIMARY KEY,
    fk NUMBER,
    col1 NUMBER,
    col2 NUMBER,
CONSTRAINT fk_constraint FOREIGN KEY (fk) REFERENCES test1,
    CONSTRAINT ck1 CHECK (pk > 0 and col1 > 0),
    CONSTRAINT ck2 CHECK (col2 > 0) );
-- "CONSTRAINT fk_constraint FOREIGN KEY (fk) REFERENCES test1"
*8. This is wrong isn't it? It references to test1 but no column specified.*
An error is returned for the following statements:
ALTER TABLE test1 DROP (pk); -- pk is a parent key.
*9. We can not drop it because we did not mention ON DELETE CASCADE. Am i right?*
ALTER TABLE test1 DROP (col1) -- col1 is referenced by multicolumn constraint ck1.
*10. I do not get it, can you explain please. col1 is not referenced, i see CHECK constraint is applied*
but no references made. Secondly, is ck1 considered multicolumn because it check two columns?
Or multicolumn here represents something else?
    ALTER TABLE emp2
    DROP COLUMN employee_id CASCADE CONSTRAINTS;
*11. This drop employee_id column and all its child. Correct?*
    ALTER TABLE test1
    DROP (pk, fk, col1) CASCADE CONSTRAINTS;
*12. This drops three columns and all its child if there are any. Correct?*
*13. Then what's the difference between ON DELETE CASCADE and CASCADE CONSTRAINTS?*
For example, What if employee_id in emp2 table definition does not have ON DELETE CASCADE,
will CASCADE CONSTRAINTS work? Please explain...
    Page 2-22
When you are expecting a large data load and want to speed the operation. You may want
to disable the constraints while performing the load and then enable them, in which case
having a unique index on the primary key will still cause the data to be verified during
the load. So you can first create a nonunique index on the column designated as PRIMARY
KEY, and then create the PRIMARY KEY column and specify that it should use the existing
    index.
    Example:
    1. create the table
    create table new_emp
    (employee_id number(6),
    first_name varchar2(10)
    2. create the index
    create index emp_id_idx2 on new_emp(employee_id);
"You may want to disable the constraints while performing the load and then enable them"
so i suggest to load all data i want into new_emp.
    3. create the primary key
    alter table new_emp ADD primary key (employee_id) USING index emp_id_idx2;
What i understand is the following:
If we want to load large data into the new_emp, its better to create the table without any
constraints - in our case the constraint is primary key. After that, we create nonunique
index points to employee_id and then load data into new_emp. Finally, specify employee_id
as primary key using the nonunique index.
    *14. Is my explanation correct?*
"in which case having a unique index on the primary key will still cause the data to be
    verified during the load."
*15. Data to be verified against what? Is it to be verified whether its NULL or NOT NULL? I*
know primary key does not take NULL and every value must be unique.
After loading all data we want, what if i did
"alter table new_emp ADD primary key (employee_id);"
*16. Will i face any problems or inefficient process?*
I do not think we need step two, we could do the following:
    1. create the table
    create table new_emp
    (employee_id number(6),
    first_name varchar2(10)
"You may want to disable the constraints while performing the load and then enable them"
so i suggest to load all data i want itno new_emp.
    2. create the primary key
    alter table new_emp ADD primary key (employee_id);
*17. The above steps are as efficient as the three steps i mentioned above. The only difference*
is we let index be created implicitly. Right? If no, why?
    Page 2-23
    CREATE INDEX upper_dept_name_idx ON dept2(UPPER(department_name));
The following statement may use the index, but without the WHERE clause the
Oracle server may perform a full table scan:
    select *
    from employees
    where UPPER(last_name) IS NOT NULL
    ORDER BY UPPER (last_name);
"but without the WHERE clause the Oracle server may perform a full table scan"
*18. The above query let oracle server perform full table scan anyway! Right? It has to go*
through every field and check is it not null or not. I know we are using function-based
index but there are alot of not null last_name! so oracle server must scan one by one. If
we only had one not null field, then i would say Oracle server can point to that field
immediately by the aid of function-based index we created above. Can you clarify please...
Another related topic statement that i do not get it yet:
"The oracle server treats indexes with columns marked DESC as function-based indexes."
*19. The bove statements is so general. What if we have a column ordered by DESC order and we*
did not create any function-based indexes, will statement be true?!
Lets go back the above query:
    ORDER BY UPPER (last_name);
*20. Its not DESC. To me, the above query does not flow with this statement "The oracle server treats*
*indexes with columns marked DESC as function-based indexes."?*
    Page 2-27
Regarding FLASHBACK TABLE, you can invoke a flashback table operation on one or more
tables, even on tables in different schema. You specify the point in time to which you
want to revert by providing a valid timestamp. By default, database triggers are disabled
for all tables involved. You can override this default behavior by specifying the ENABLE
    TRIGGERS clause.
"By default, database triggers are disabled for all tables involved. You can override this
default behavior by specifying the ENABLE TRIGGERS clause."
    *21. What are database triggers?*
*22. About External Tables. What are external tables? When is it used in real-life? Why do*
    we want External Tables?
    Page 2-30
Oracle server provides two major access drivers for external tables. They are
ORACLE_LOADER access driver and ORACLE_DATAPUMP access driver. ORACLE_DATAPUMP used to
both import and export data using a platform-independent format.
    "platform-independent format."
*23. What is the format? Is it .dat?*
    Page 2-35
    CREATE TABLE oldemp ( fname char(25), lname char(25) )

    ACCESS PARAMETERS
    (RECORDS DELIMINATED BT NEWLINE

    Again, any help is appreciated...

  • Oracle9i OCP questions and distribution of questions from each chapter

    Dear Friends,
Planning to appear in oracle9i Fundamental-I exam. If someone knows that how many questions would come from each chapter. Also if someone has list of questions for the preparation of this exam.
    Regards
    Saeed

  • Question bout chapter marker esthetics for dvd

    Hi
I'm just about to make a .img to burn dvds from. Haven't made dvds in the past couple years. So maybe this is a dumb question, but since I don't want to create a dvd to find out, tell me: Does it look better to leave 'Chapter X' out of the marker name and just have a title? I forget if there's already a 'Chapter X' list in the menu waiting for names for the Chapters so it would be repititious to have it in the title. Tho maybe some designation before the name is better.

No problem, I made a little test dvd of a couple minutes and saw that there is no
    "Chapter 1 ________
    Chapter 2 ________
    etc"
I was worried if I titled a marker 'Chapter 1 Whatever', it would appear as 'Chapter 1 Chapter 1 Whatever'. See what I mean?
So problem solved. I'm working on making an .img for a 2-hour flick so I can knock out a bunch of dvds easily.
it's been 5 hours and I'm at 58%. A tad slow. I thot it would go faster.

  • Chapter Menus - question!

    Hi
I know this has already been asked in previous threads, but as of yet there has not been a definitive answer...
I know iDVD is limited in its function but I would really like to know if it is possible to have multiple pages to a chapter menu... I know you can do it using DVD Studio Pro, but I would like to use one of the iDVD 6 themes that isn't available there.
To explain - I'd like to put the first 6 movies/chapters on the first page, with a right arrow going to the next 6 items, and so forth... Is this possible?
    Thanks!
    :-Joe

    Follow-up:
It took a long time to sort, but I rendered out all my menus in iDVD to a disk image, which I then ripped out using MPEG Streamclip... I used After Effects and Photoshop to add page numbers to the menus, also using Photoshop to create a layer for buttons. I then imported the whole lot into DVDSP and laid the whole lot out exactly how I wanted it.
The results looked perfect... However, my latest problem is that all the edits I've done (uncluding the menus) have resulted in the field dominance being reversed, and although it looked fine on my laptop screen, when played through my PAL TV everything flickers
So now I am on a mission to find out how to flip the field dominance back from lower to upper... I've tried using JES but it didn't seem to do the trick (although I could be using it incorrectly).
I have posted a new question about this here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1102790
If you have any knowledge of how to do this, I'd be very grateful for some information!
    Cheers

  • M4A/Chapter Streaming - question from a professional radio station

My name is Jason Wohlstadter and I run Proton Radio (www.protonradio.com).
We've been broadcasting into Quicktime via Shoutcast for the past four years in MP3 format. We'd like to start broadcasting in m4a format to utilize the awesome Chapter Tool that Apple released, which would allow us to specify what tracks are playing in the large 2-3 hour solid DJ mixes we air.
My question: Is it possible for the chapters to be utilized in a stream? They work fine in a download medium like a Podcast, but when we tried opening the .m4a files via a stream the additional meta data was not displayed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

A lot of radio stations make it difficult to listen to their live stream in anything but a web browser.
Rogue Amoeba have an app called Airfoil which allows you to take audio from any application and redirect it to Airtunes on Airport Expresses, Apple TVs and other computers.
