Chapter Tool beta - recommendable ?

I found just a few side-notes searching through the forum about the "chapter tool beta", so it seems not really being wide-spread.
Is this app from http://homepage.mac.com/applepodcast/podcasts/Resources/static/podcastchapter_toolbeta.dmg being recommendable ?
I wonder if this is an official Apple software or a contribution from a podcaster (personal homepage but distributed by Apple through the iTunes help) ?
Any bugs to consider, since it is stated being in beta version ? Are there alternative solutions ? I just would look for something quite simple here.

Please excuse if my question sounds stupid, but I'm new to podcasts...
Are the chapters created at the XML document ? I assumed that the chapters are created within the mp3 file directly ?
Does this tool also work with Quicktime movies or just audio files ?
GarageBand allows you to set a chapter track during editing. Or Podcast
Maker
I not wanted to invest into a new version of GarageBand, especially since it comes with iLife '06 only (and I don't really need all these apps).
My plan was to use Soundtrack 1.2 that also provides a video track (the final result should be a video podcast in Quicktime format).

  • Looking for Chapter Tool Beta or other app to create enhanced podcasts

Hi all. I am looking at creating enhanced podcasts. On Google I found a mysterious app that Apple has apperantly created - "Chapter Tool Beta". However, all links to this app are dead. Any idea what happened to that app?
Also, what are some alternatives? Garage Band doesn't work well, as in this project I am working on, we have to show a screen shot, then in the next "frame" same screen shot, but with a highlight box over an area. And, it's hard to line up images in GB. Any ideas? Thanks,

I think the Chapter Tool is now dead - though someone did ask about this a few weeks back: it might be worth searching for the thread to see whether anyone could help.
I would suggest you look at Podcast Maker: this will take your pre-existing mp3 files and add chapters and images to make an m4a 'enhanced podcast', and incorporate the information you give it into a feed file. It will then upload the podcast to your iDisk or other server and ping the iTunes Store for you. I've used it for three years now and found it very reliable.

  • Chapter Tool - can anyone help?

Hi I am trying to get my hands on Apple's chapter tool for creating enhanced podcast. I have been looking online but the link on Apple's website is no longer working so i was wondering if anyone has a copy of chapter tool or can point me in the right direction on where I can download it.
    Thanks in advanced!
    Tony

I can't advise you about the chapter tool, but you might like to have a look at Podcast Maker ($29.95) which will take an existing MP3, add chapters, images, description and summary and write the feed file, and post the feed and the media file to a server or your iDisk. I've used it for my podcast for three years and found it does exactly what's needed simply and reliably.
(Since I've recommended it a number of times I perhaps ought to add that I have no connection with this firm.)

  • Chapter tool for windows?

    Hi,
Is this chapter beta tool only compatible with the mac os? Is there a chapter tool for windows xp? And if there is... where can I find it?
    Thanks,
    Kimmi

I never heard of the chapter beta tool. What is it?

  • Chapter Tool

    Hello,
does anyone know where to get the Chapter Tool from Apple? This adress doesnt work: http://homepage.mac.com/applepodcast/podcasts/Resources/static/podcastchapter_toolbeta.dmg
i need it because im using the app join together for my audiobooks and want to create chapters...

Yes please, how about it! It's a kick *** feature but I'd rather not buy a mac just to run a terminal script. I've been looking everywhere but no luck so far.
podguide.net have a pre-chapter-solution, maybe the will make a version that makes chapters... Please do!

  • ITunes Chapter Tool Error Codes

I gave the chapter tool a go but I was unsuccessful. Does anyone have a list of what the error codes mean? Are there any restrictions on the size of the image? I use iTunes to deliver lectures, but if I could embed the sides into the file - well that would take things to a whole new level.

    Hi
I think that -2014 means that I tried to give 2 different chapters the same start time. [I'm not very bright! Sorry to waste your time]
It's good taht the tool doesn't change the aspect ratio of the images. I was worried that they might have to be square.
The side of the completed file seems to be close to the sum of the sizes of the files used to create it. This suggests that the images are stored in full. That's good.

  • Xport OMF or XML from Fcp5 for 5.1 mix?(Pro Tools better?)

Is anyone using Logic to do there fcp project sweetening or is everyone a die hard Pro Tools user? I figured Logic Pro 7 would be the better way to go since I have apples tools. I also found out that PT LE does not support surround mixing. Well fact is I can't afford the PT/TDM gear. So can I get audio from my timeline in fcp to logic and still retain audio attributes and accomplish a surround mix well with Logic Pro 7 or is this left to the big boys with the PT tools? Any direction/workflow? My goal is to recut some real old school short I made and redo it all with fcp studio and freshening up the audio and finally surround mix it. Am I crazy or is someone doing this type of stuff...for fun?
Peace. Thanks any info would be supa fly.
    Ryanb.
    aka:downtownbrown
ps: I also have the Tascam fw-1884 surface to get the mix in and out and m-audio studiphile monitors.

I never use the keyframes for audio.
Because indeed the audio-guy will not receive that info from the omf.
What I always do is add transitions to the audio. sometimes need to scirror the audio. adjust the level on the second part and the ad a transition.
This way your audio-guy will know he needs to do 'something' on that point in the mix. he will not get the level information, but he'll see you made a transition there. together with your scratch mix (see danny boy's post) he'll figure out...

  • Any screen recorder tool to recommend?

    Hi!
I would like to record a screen session. I tried "qt-recordmydesktop" application, but the recording isn't realtime: sometimes it is too fast, and lot of frames are missing (frame skip). Which screen recorder should I use for optimal result? I would like to be played the recording at the exact speed as I did the things on my screen.

    Check simplescreenrecorder.

  • Capturing screens

Which application is suited to do screen capturing for video podcasts ?
There are many podcasts available for software demonstration (video shows the computer screen where host works on together with spoken information). Which software is suited for producing something similar ?

Do you refer to http://www.videolan.org/ ? I shortly read about the page and it appeared to me that this is just some kind as video streaming server software.
When using the shortcut Apple-Shift-3, it just takes a hardcopy of the actual screen, not a video (e.g. that shows moving mouse cursor or while working in a software).
Or have I overseen something at Video Lan Player ?
    By the way, another question:
In order to produce the podcast, I intend to use Soundtrack v1.2, it can export to Quicktime movies and allows having a separate video track.
Does anyone work with this (older) software ? Or would it be more recommended to use iLife '06 (Garageband 3) ?
I found just a few side-notes here, is the chapter tool beta from http://homepage.mac.com/applepodcast/podcasts/Resources/static/podcastchapter_toolbeta.dmg being recommendable ? I wonder if this is an official Apple software or a contribution from a podcaster ?

  • Have I got the right tools?

    Hi all,
I need to acquire/buy the following tools for a lot of my network related activities. I need:
    1) A tool that checks for cable splits/breaks, DHCP functionality and troubleshoot basic network problems and last but not least should be very portable. Ofcourse this could do other things but this is a minimal scope of functionality that should be supported.
    2) A protocol anaylzer.
Upon doing some research I have basciallly outlined the fluke netool device and wireshark (formerly ethereal). I wanted to know if this is a good choice and if you guys have any better recommendations.
    Thanks a lot.

For #1 I use the Fluke one-touch and for #2 Wireshark, I am happy with both and used them both for years.

  • Tools for Oracle Admin.

    Hi Gurus and admins.
I have been lurking here for a while and I think that these groups are wicked cool! I left college ("school" to our American friends!) recently (degree in computer science) and have got a job as a junior oracle developer/dba with a small company near London. The company is "young and dynamic" (i.e. we have to work long hours ;( ), but there are good people here and lots of opportunities to learn. We are allowed choose our own tools for the work we do as long as we use the Subversion server for source control (sql - pl/sql - java - c) and use Bugzilla for reporting. Since these are browser based, this is not a problem and I can use my Linux box (nearly) all the time and the browser of my choice. Sometimes it is necessary to use Windows on client sites - amazingly, they tell us it's for security reasons - go figure! I want a lightweight admin tool that's Open Source (I did lot's of work on open source stuff when in college. Does anybody have any ideas? Mac.

Hi Mac, and welcome to the forums,
I have been lurking here for a while and I think that these groups are wicked cool!
I left college ("school" to our American friends!) recently (degree in computer science)
and have got a job as a junior oracle developer/dba with a small company near London.
The company is "young and dynamic" (i.e. we have to work long hours ;( ), but there
are good people here and lots of opportunities to learn. We are allowed choose our
own tools for the work we do as long as we use the Subversion server for source
control (sql - pl/sql - java - c) and use Bugzilla for reporting. Since these are browser
based, this is not a problem and I can use my Linux box (nearly) all the time and the browser of my choice.
Sometimes it is necessary to use Windows on client sites - amazingly, they tell
us it's for security reasons - go figure! I want a lightweight admin tool that's Open
Source (I did lot's of work on open source stuff when in college. Does anybody
have any ideas? Mac.I looked at this at one point.
There are a number of tools out there that are F\LOSS. There's TOra which is
about the best of the Open Source stuff, however, development seems to have
stopped around 2010. There's also http://www.sqltools-plusplus.org:7676/index.html (Windows only)
from Randolph Geist - but it's ceased development also. Its advantage is that it can
be run from a USB stick - but when I tried it recently, it didn't support the DESC table_name
command - I have to say that I was disappointed.
There are a number of SQL*Plus replacements out there - Go [url http://packages.python.org/sqlpython/comparison.html]here to check them out - most seem to
have ceased development - apart from sqlpython and gqlplus.
You mention security. I was on one client site where all we were allowed use was
vi and SQL*Plus. There is a project [url http://code.google.com/p/vorax/]here which seeks to be a
"simple, yet a powerful IDE for Oracle databases" by sort of combining vi with SQL*Plus. Haven't
tried it, but it might be worth a look.
You have to remember however that, while on client site, you may very well be constrained to use
the tools that they tell you to use which will likely be (boring old) SQL*Plus and an editor.
You may be denied the opportunity to use your latest whizz-bang tool and worse still, you may
be stumped if you have to use tools with which you are not familiar.
Download and play all you like with all of the marvellous stuff you can find on the interweb,
but you must be familiar with SQL*Plus.
As for a GUI tool, my recommendation is that you use SQL Developer if you are mostly running
Linux - it also works on Windows. It's a java app, so it's a bit sluggish on machines with <= 2GB
of RAM, but with laptops now at 8GB RAM and rising, that shouldn't be an issue.
Even on Windows, personally I find TOAD to be very cluttered, but if your employer is willing
to pay the (outrageous) licence costs, then I would make an effort to at least become somewhat
familiar with it - it's pretty much a standard - many Oracle job offers mention TOAD.
You have to ask yourself for your career &c., are you more interested in F\LOSS or becoming a
competent Oracle professional.? It's likely that the latter will pay a better salary and, even if
you don't add in the complcation of learning non-standard apps, there's a heck of a lot to learn
    with Oracle alone.
Best of luck with your career.
[EDIT sb92075 mentioned Squirrel SQL - I had meant to put it down also. If you want a tool to
connect to all major (and a lot of minor) database servers (it uses JDBC - so if you have a driver
you can connect) and perform ad-hoc queries - then Squirrel SQL is your man. I've used it
for Firebird, MySQL (although Workbench is better), PostgreSQL and even Oracle - it's handy!

  • Chapter Markers or Bookmarks in song

    Hey all,
I am working with a dance group and using iTunes to play our song. I want to specify chapter or bookmarks through the song so we can go back and practise a specific section, without going through the whole dance again.
I have heard about some podcasts having chapter markers, but I can't seem to find a way to a: add my own, and b: skip from chapter to chapter.
I tried creating chapter markers in Final Cut and exporting to iTunes but it didn't seem to work. Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

You can download Apple's Chapter Tool to do this:
    http://homepage.mac.com/applepodcast/podcasts/Resources/static/podcastchapter_toolbeta.dmg
Apparently it's not totally user-friendly as it requires use of the Terminal, so if you prefer there are some 3rd party utilities that a better interface to Apple's Chapter tool. Here's one example:
    http://www.rbsoftware.net/?page=ctm
    Hope that helps!

  • ISteup (or other tool ... ?) for oracle CRM, telecommunications service ord

    Hi,
we use oracle Telecommunications Service Ordering 11.5.9. We are looking for a way to get away from manual setup specifically for the modules Inventory, Bill of Materilals, Advanced Pricing, Service Fulfilment management. (Also for configurator but in Release 12 there is an enhanced migration fro configurator)
Can we use iSetup for these modules in 11.5.9 or at least in release 12 ... ? Or is there another tool, better way ... ? FND_LOAD does not help with these modules I understand ...
Any ideas and experiences on that appreciated ... :-)
    cheers
    benedikt

iSetup is available from 11.5.9 onwards. You can have a look at Discrete Mfg. and Distribution selection set. This contains all SCM related setups that are supported in iSetup.
The support for migration of SCM related setups are available in 11.5.9,11.5.10.2 and R12 as well.

  • How do you add chapter markers to your podcast?

Does anyone know how to add chapter markers to a podcast so that listeners can skip to the section they are interested in? And how to change the artwork as the chapters change?

In Garageband 3 - you can build the enhanced podcast right in the Garageband - No more need for Chapter Tool Me.
If you are looking to add chapters to a MP3 file with a Mac or PC, the only thing that comes close is a service called Audio Merge.
    http://www.audiomerge.com/
but this is only if the person is listening from a Web Browser.
But at least it is a way to do something now if you are on a Windows machine.
There are also some other neat features - You can add Polls, Comment Feedback. This works for Audio and Video.
