Chapters in iMovie 10.0.1

In the new iMovie 10, I have not found how to put scoreboards of chapters.
I believe that it is an indispensable function to make a familiar filming for DVD and to be able to locate the different situations.
Does someone know some another way of putting the scoreboards of chapters and that the work in a DVD? (IDVD or another software)
Why the "old iMovie" is: iMovie11, and the "new iMovie" don't is: iMovie12 (i see: iMovie without number) version10.0.1?
Another topic: In order that we use the Imac not profesional, but familiar, and like the DVDs sistem.
Why does it seem that Apple already gives DVDs sistem is dead?

The "old" is iMovie '11 is version 9.
The "new" is iMovie '13 is version 10.
As you've discovered, version 10 doesn't not support chapter makers. However, when you installed it, iMovie version should have been left behind in your Applications folder so you may continue to use it.

  • How to make chapters in iMovie for iDVD?

A long time ago, in iMovie HD, you could make chapters, and iDVD would honor them. Perhaps I still can in iMovie 11, but I can't find it. Please let me know if it is still possible, and how.
Maybe they are not called chapters?

    Hi
    There are Chapters in iMovie'11
Project window - You have to select a project to be edited - so that just this show up - top and right hand corner there are two small brown/red things (to the right of the three blue squares) that Mark or Chapter-mark
    Things reg. Chapters
    • Do not set any Chapter mark at - VERY beginning or End - as iDVD want's to do this by it self and get's confused
    • Do not set any Chapter mark in or within (2 sec from) any Transition !
(This You can do a work around if You MUST - Export out movie as a Full Quality QuickTime .mov file then re-import this into iMovie and use this in a NEW Project - and now You can set Chapters in transitions without any problem)
    • When delivered to iDVD - DO NOT GO BACK to iMovie or FCE/P to make any adjustments - This set off the iDVD BUG resulting in that all Chapters points to Chapter one.
If done Medicine is to trash movie in iDVD and clean Media Assets - then re-import - or start a new iDVD project
    AND
I never use "Share to iDVD" as results get's bad to me - I do "Share to Media Browser" and as Large and in iDVD import from this.
Best result I get is by using iMovie HD6 or FinalCut Express or Pro as they don't discard every second line as iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 does.

I've iMovie 10.0.6 (on Yosemite). And i can't find the buttons to make a chapter anymore. How can i make chapters now? I'd like to export my Movie to iDVD with several chapters.

  • Idvd can't get chapters from imovie

I'm adding my imovie to the idvd and it isn't transferring chapters. help. Thanks it used to and now it all of a sudden doesn't

If you drag the iMovie HD file into iDVD, it should
keep them. If you export from iMovie HD and then
import into iDVD, they will be lost. Who says all
    version upgrades are upgrades???
didnt work for me & it didnt even find the movie in the movie file in the media pane...AND when I tried dropping scenes from the imovie clips into the load zones, that worked, but only had 3 scenes and it still kept 6 load zones and all of them were blank when I tried to preview it...idvd help file said all I had to do was drop the imovie into the tree...sorry but that was incorrect...

  • How can you set up chapters in Imovie, then Idvd?

I have slides, I brought them into Imovie, made my movie, then successfully brought it into Idvd, but when I play the dvd, I have not access to any controls, like pause or FF to next slide.
Can anyone let me know what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks.

Not sure. However, once you bring pics into imovie and export it...its a movie...there are not slides. You should be able to fast forward using your remote control just like any dvd. In order to make chapters, you need to manually add them in imovie by turning on advanced controls in preferences. This will enable chapter markers. You can then pick chapters off the main menu in Idvd.

  • Adding Additional Chapters in iMovie

    Hi All!
I created a nice DVD project using the SHARE/iDVD option from iMovie and included several chapters which work fine. Now I have added one more chapter with some new footage. I save my iMovie project and open iDVD which tells me that assets have been modified and would I like to update - I click yes however the "new" chapter is not displayed? Where did it go? When the movie is played via iDVD previewing the new footage is there at the end of my movie. Do I need to do another SHARE/iDVD function and reacreate my project?
    Thanks for any help!
    Martin

The Chapter button was introduced in iMovie 09 (iMovie 8.0.6 - introduced with iLife 09)
It is not in iMovie 08.
If you are using iMovie 08, use GarageBand to add your Chapter Markers.
You can finish your movie in iMovie 08. Share it to a place you can find it, like iTunes, the Media Browser, or your desktop. Then open GarageBand to a new regular GarageBand Project (not video podcast). Drag your movie into the Garageband Timeline. You can easily add chapter markers in GB and then render your movie in final form.

  • Using GB'08 to create Chapters for iMovie'08 -- audio does not export

After fighting though learning Final Cut Express (oops I mean iMovie '08), I got a movie together. Then I wanted chapters, so I found a great article (http://imovie08.blogspot.com/2007/08/how-to-add-chapter-markers.html) showing that the only way to make them in a logical way was via GarageBand'08.
However, when I send the movie to iDVD, the audio does not make it (silent when I play the movie - either in preview mode or on the burned disc). Furthermore, I tried to "Export Movie to Disk" to see if GB was not outputting or if it was an iDVD issue of receiving. I found that the export also came over with no audio.
    Please advise!

I am having the same exact problem. I have Final Cut Pro on my production computer at work, but I wanted to do some personal stuff at home on my MB Pro. I have like 15 old family 8mm home videos that I want to convert to DVD's for my parents for Christmas, so I used some of my hardware for A to D conversion to get these marathon 2 hour movies on my ext. Hard Drive. But of course you can't make chapter markers in the new iMovie '08, so I have to export to "media browser" and then switch to GarageBand to do this simple task. But unfortunately when I "share" from GarageBand to iDVD, disk, or even iTunes I get absolutely no audio. Ridiculous.
Not to mention the fact that these home videos are two hours long and it takes a freakin hour for it to compress/export just to find out there's an issue. And even before I realized there was no audio, I was having an amazingly awesome time in iDVD as it was lagging so badly that I considered putting my TV on to pass the time while I clicked and held on one of the folders waiting for it to highlight so I could move it. Then it was great to find out that all that time I spent in iDVD was in vain because there was no audio on the movies anyways!!!! yaaayyyy!!!
Obviously other people have presented this same GarageBand movie sharing audio issue and have received no good solutions as of yet, so I don't even know why I'm here posting this. It's 4:00 AM, and I've been fussing with this crap for over 8 hours now. I'm just going to do it all at work on more capable software (Final Cut, DVD Studio).
I just figured that I didn't have to do anything special to these home-videos editing-wise, why not just take advantage of my "cool" new iLife software? And do it on my spare time at home? Why not? Because they've made iLife so retard-proof that it's self destructing before my very tired eyes.
    iLife? more like cryLife.

  • Chapters for iMovie 11 for Mavericks.

I would like to create music videos in iMovie 11 for Mavericks and without chapters I can't go to a particular track when I burn it to a DVD.
Is there any way around this problem? Is there something I am missing?
I would really like Apple to re-introduce chapters in the next iMovie update.

    Thanks for that reply.
I imported the movie into iMovie 9 and created chapters, but the quality of the picture lessened.
The chapters worked perfectly, but the inferior quality of the picture was disappointing.
    I really appreciate your advice.
Maybe Final Cut Pro still has chapters?
Also, Apple still sell their SuperDrive. It's almost ageist to think all generations don't need DVDs now that we have YouTube Facebook etc.
(That last comment was just me thinking out loud)
    Thanks again

  • IMovie to iDvd chapters not showing up?

I have a great film of a relatives wedding that I edited in iMovie I then sent it to iDvd figuring I could chapter it when it got there. I was wrong. You have to enable an advanced menu then chapter the movie in iMovie. I did this then decided to Export at 640x480 so that I would have a real video file to import into iDVD incase something went wrong. (when I had sent the movie to iDVD the first time it showed up in the DVD menu but I did not have a real file anywhere so if I deleted it from the project I would have to spend another two hours to add it back in.
When I added the exported 640x480 movie to a new iDVD project it found no chapter markers. Ok fine so I went back into iMovie and sent to iDVD. This time I let it run over night and when I checked it in the morning it had an error and could not complete. I dont wish to waist another two hours on something that isnt going to work. I have searched all over the internet for how to add chapters between iMovie and iDVD but all of the articles are outdated and all apple has to say is that they both provide support for chapters but no help documentation walks you through the process. Can someone please explain to me the best way to go from iMovie to iDVD and have my chapters? Do I need to use a special project that supports a scene selection or something? I need to make a 4:3 DVD.

Use iMovie 06 with iDVD 08/09, why?
I don't like editing style of iMovie HD. It is painful to follow the subject and change camera angle. iMovie 09 gives freedom of creativity.
    Ziatron wrote:
iMovie 08/09 uses 'single field processing' meaning every other horizontal line of the video is _thrown out_, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 is a "lossless" combination.
With iMovie HD you are right up to the point when you need one project at disk. As soon as you need several clips to be present at one DVD disk this approach is not working anymore.
If you export projects to DV stream by QT _both iMovie HD and iMovie 08/09 do the same bad trick with you - single field._ The workaround of this issue - using FCE for final rendering of DV.
Captured DV is the same quality (both fields) for all 4 of above.

  • Compress from imovie to quicktime, saving chapters

    Hello,
I am creating movies in imovie and compressing them into quicktime movies. I have created chapters in imovie and want to preserve the chapters in the quicktime movie. What compression settings should I use for this?

I can't find a chaptered reference movie from the movies I have created. Not sure if this means you found the proper folder and it was empty or if it means you didn't know how to open the project package files. Not knowing your level of experience, will assume the latter for the moment.
    1) Locate your iMovie project file
    2) Control-mouse click on the icon
    3) Mouse click the "Show Package Contents" option in the windw that opens
    4) Double-click the "Shared Movies" folder to open it
    5) Double-click the "iDVD" folder to open it
    6) Double-click the reference MOV file that represents your current iMovie timeline to open it in the QT Player
If your iMovie timeline contains a chaptered movie/clip segment, the the QT Player should be displaying it with the chapter feature at this time. (Try selecting chapters at random in the chapter pop-up list to ensure the feature is working correctly.)
Is there a way to save the movie from imovie to quicktime with the chapters that is not so huge?If by this you are asking if it is possible to convert the movie to a new format with a much smaller file size (and/or display dimensions) and retain the chapter track, then the answer is no (as far as I know). However, you can extract the chapter data from the reference file described above and apply it to such a converted file.
I also can't find a way to save a text file from imovie. Could you explain a bit more?I personnally would recommend use of a third-party utility to do this -- Metadata Hootenanny 1.1.4 (free) -- if you are using a PPC G5 here. The following would be a typical workflow when using this utility:
    1) Export your chaptered movie from iMovie to your desired format (e.g., "Movie to iPod") in the normal manner
    2) Open Metadata Hootenanny and drop the iMovie reference file onto the "Library/Playlist" work area
    3) Press the "Open Book" icon to switch to the "Chapters" area to view chaptering data
    4) Press the "Save to Text File..." button the save the chapter data
    5) Press the "List" icon to return to the "Library/Playlist" area
    6) Delete/Clear the reference file from the list
    7) Drop your converted target file to the "Library/Playlist" area
    8) Press the "Open Book" icon to switch to the "Chapters" area again
    9) Ensure "Scale Chapters from Files" and "Allow Editing Chapter Times" options are set
    10) Press the "Open File" button and load the chaper text file saved above
    11) Test capter markers using he integrated media player and adjust frames/chapters if required
    12) Return to the "Library/Playlist" area, sace the chaptered file, clear the list, and quit
    13) Open the Movie in the QT Player, test chapters, set presentation options if desired, add graphic and set as poster frame if desired, deselect any active selected area if desired, reset play head to beginning of movie if needed, and use "Save As..." to rename final movie/reset "fast start" option as desired if destined for web use.
Am currrently busy working on a project so I can't prepare a better example of this work flow, but here is a LINK to an older sample file made in this manner.

  • Is there a way to create DVD chapters in iDVD?

Is there a way to create DVD chapters in iDVD? I don't see any options for it in iDVD. Also, I don't want to have to import all the footage back into imovie. Thanks

So, what if iDVD 7.1.2  doesn't recognize the chapters from iMovie 10.0.5?
Apple has removed the ability to create chapters in iMovie 10
I use iMovie 06 to do this. It works perfectly with Mavericks, as does iDVD.  You can purchase iMovie on disk as part of iLife 06, readily available on Amazon and eBay.
It's quite shocking that another feature has been removed from the once mighty iMovie.
