Character limitation to install 11g R2

Hi All,
It's known issue I think that hostname should not be more tha 8 characters where Database - iwill be installed.
I think initially if the server name was bigegr than 8 characters or had any ACSII characters - installer would throw up an error.
You wont get ODBC conection and all.
I have a system - windows 2008 64 bit R2 - Hostname - 9 characters long
Installed 11g R2 on it and do get ODBC conenction success.
Is the limitaion of 8 characters been removed and no loger neccassary to stick to that???????????????

As you sid you have installed DB with 15 characters without any issues.

That is not what I said :-) - pl re-read my comment.
You original comment was

hostname to me means the server name you will be installing on - it has no relation to oracle software install.
If by "hostname" you meant SID, then pl see these

  • ISE delete command 80 character limitation

    Hello Guys,
one of our customers did a backup to local disk on the ISE. Later he tried to remove the file on the ISE node by running the delete command. Unfortunately the name of the file exceeded the 80 character limitation of the CLI delete command.
Is there any other opportunity to get rid of the backup file?

I haven't run into this before but it sounds like a bug Here is what I would recommend:
    1. ISE 1.1.2 just came out so you can upgrade your system and see if that takes care of the problem
    2. If #1 does not fix the issue then you should probably contact TAC and get a root patch installed to gain root level access to the system. Once you have root access you can do pretty much whatever you like including deleting that file. After the issue is resolved request the TAC engineer to file a defect with the development team so they can fix this in the future release
    Thank you for rating!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

For almost all carriers, 160 characters is the limit on text messaging. It is a carier restriction.
If you type more than 160 characters, the message will commonly be broken in to one or more messages.
SMS = Short Message Service, hence the name "Short".

  • How to Install 11g Management Agent

    Hi
I installed 11g EM Grid Control (11.1.0.1.0) on RHES 5U2 64bit server. Installation was successful. Now I wish to monitor my other database servers through this OEM. My servers are RHES 4U5 32bit so I downloaded 11g Agent Software for 32bit. runInstaller doesnt seem to work in GUI hence I had to modify the additional_agent.rsp file in the unzipped directory /../response and included details. When I run the installer with -silent option it fails after 5 minutes with Error: Connection timed out.
Since I cannot access internet therefore I have set these values in the .rsp file
    SECURITY_UPDATES_VIA_MYORACLESUPPORT="false"
    DECLINE_SECURITY_UPDATES="true"
    Is there a workaround?
    Thank you all

    Hi Rob
It worked while I was typing my response. Now I can see the target in OEM but when I try to set Target Credentials for the DB it fails.
    OEM->Home->Preferences->Preferred Credentials->Database Instance->Set Credentials-> Target Credentials
I tried with two different user accounts but both are not accepted. I verified that the accounts are not locked.
Also if I go to Database Instance Page and click on Configure, it doesnt show the property where I can set username and password (dbsnmp). Instead it is showing following error on top
Error occurred while getting information for the specified target. Possible reasons include: the target doesn't exist; connection to the target failed
    Any clues?

  • Web Interface doesn't work after installing 11g

A couple days ago I decided to install Oracle 11g (after already having 10g Express Edition), after successfully installing 11g, I tried to access 10g EE using http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/apex, and it doesn't work anymore. I tried using a java program with Netbeans that connects to my 10g Database and there's connection with no problems and I can upload/download data with no problems, I just can't access the web interface.
    Thanks in advance.

    Check lsnrctl services output.
    Have to have:
    database instance running
    listener running
http presentation service in `lsnrctl services` endpoints
Without the first two, there is no way number 3 will happen. And variations in the networking setup for the host can also prevent #3 from registering with the listener, even when #1 and #2 are working.

  • Warning while running pre-req checks for installing 11g binaries

I am trying to install 11g binaries on my box for upgrading my production db from 10.2.0.4 to 11.1.0.7. I have dev and Prod running from the same box. I already upgraded my dev instance to 11g and its home is /opt/oracle/product/11.10/dev.
I created another path for production as /opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/prod so that I can install the 11g binaries for production in there. When I run the installer, the pre-req checks gives me two warnings -
    Checking PATH environment variable...
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: The installer has detected that the PATH environment variable includes other ORACLE_HOME locations in it.
Recommendation: Restart the installer after removing other ORACLE_HOME locations from PATH environment variable.

Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: The installer has detected that environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes other ORACLE_HOME locations in it.
Recommendation: Restart the installer after removing other ORACLE_HOME locations from LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable.
I ran ther pre-req again after unsetting the PATH and HOME variable. But it still gives me a warning on the PATH variable. What should I do to avoid this warning?

If I were you, I would have defined the HOMEs as "/opt/oracle/product/dev/11.1.0" and "/opt/oracle/product/prod/11.1.0" - that would eliminate the errors you are facing. It is still not too late - you can install the prod binaries as "/opt/oracle/product/prod/11.1.0", then later on "clone" the OH from "/opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev" to "/opt/oracle/product/dev/11.1.0" and delete the former.
You could also simply clone "/opt/oracle/product/prod/11.1.0" from "/opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev" rather than running the the install/patching process all over again.

  • Can't Install 11g Db, Error ORA 28547/24324/01041

    hi,
I was trying to install db 11g and the installation stopped half way through with 3 errors.
1.ORA 24324: SERVICE HANDLE NOT IDENTIFIED
2.ORA 01041: INTERNAL ERROR, HOSTDEF EXTERIOR DOES'NT EXIST
3.ORA 28547: CONNECTION TO SERVER FAILED, PROABLY NET ADMIN ERROR.
I have just trained on oracle application developper and very new to installing a personal database.
My machine is a pentium duo core 1.7, 2gb ram and 120 hdd and my OS is XP professional sp2. I connect through this machine
through my office lan to oracle 9i db in my company server.
I have tried to set up a 11i DB Personal and 10g developer suite on the same machine.
I could figured out the 1st error ORA-01041 and understand that the Environment variables have to be changed before I try to
    reinstall 11g.
As I checked up the variable from System>advanced>environment variables it is showing a very long string which is
    (C:\app\ravid\product\11.1.0\db_1\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program
    Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\;C:\ORANT\BIN;)
After looking this up in the c:\oracle folder trace the string only uptil 'bin'.
I have DEVELOPER 2000 NT with Forms runtime and Graphics runtime already on the machine however i did not see any path in the
system environment variable for this, or could it be that the string i mentioned above has that included too..one thing i know for
sure is there was no oracle home before i tried to install the 11g db.
Could someone also help me out with the 1st and 3rd errors as i don't know what they mean?
Will really appreciate if you can help me through this.
Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

  • 10g listener cannot start after install 11g

    Hi,
I install 11g R2 into one of 10g windows 2003 server, but I did not perform upgrade, I want the 11g coexists with 10g.
But after I install 11g and create a new 11g instance, I found that the listener cannot be started, until I change the environment variable ORACLE_HOME
of windows to 11g home directory.
But when I reboot my server, I found that the old 10g listener cannot be started,
the services cannot be started and if I try to start the listener in command "lsnrctl start", error TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error prompt.
So I changed the ORACLE_HOME environment variable to 10g home directory again and the listener can be started.
And when I want to start 11g listener, I will have to change again the ORACLE_HOME environment variable to 11g home directory.
Is this a normal behaviour to have 11g and 10g co-exists in one server?
    Thanks

Is there any limitation with Oracle 11G BPM on the number of project variable that can be created for a given BPMN processs ??

    Hi,
Oracle doesn't provide the source code 11g Worklist. If you want to customize the existing worklistapp, then you can try modifying the jsfs in exploded directory, but that requires tedious knowledge in ADF.
I would recommend to write your custom worklist app. Oracle provides various taskflows available in JDeveloper, you can just include them in the application to make things work.

  • Can't install 11g after removing 10g "port in use"

Trying to install Oracle 11g XE on a Windows Server 2003 machine after uninstalling 10g XE. However, I can't continue in the install process because it won't accept any of the ports I provide for the HTTP port, it claims the port is in use no matter what number I provide. 8082 is what our 10g XE used so I started with that, but 8080, 8081, 8083, or any number I randomly type in all comes back as "in use." I checked with netstat and these ports should all be free. An antivirus is installed but I have disabled it for the install. I'm logged in as the local administrator. Windows Firewall shouldn't be running either, when I try to access the settings it says that the ICS service is not running.
This issue is eerily similar to an issue someone else had: Win Server 2003 Sp2, 'port 808 is in use' He too was trying to install 11g XE on a Windows Server 2003 machine right after uninstalling 10g XE.
I'm at the end of my rope here, I really can't think of anything else that could be causing this problem.

Looks like I figured it out. The installer defaults to HTTP port 8081, which is used by Tomcat on this machine, so I wanted to use 8082. But seeing as the installer claimed the port was in use no matter what number I entered, I had a hunch it might be continually checking 8081 despite me changing the field. Sure enough, after shutting down Tomcat the installer lets me select other ports including 8082. I have no idea if that's actually the reason, but it seems to make sense given what I've seen. Weird.
    Thanks for the help!
