Character palette no longer works for me with Leopard

I need to use the Character Palette frequently in my work, but since going to 10.5 it is not working. Only the bottom part appears, starting with the "View" drop-down menu, and under that the large character on the left and the "Related" scroll box next to it. Therefore, I can't select any other characters from the categories that should be at the top of the CP (or were in 10.4), and I'm stuck with whatever happens to appear in the large character box. How can I get the whole CP back?

For some unknown reason the international data caches can get corrupted and prevent character palette and keyboard viewer to appear in the input tab of the international preference pane. This also prevent from working the special characters item in the edit menu of many applications, including the Finder, Safari and Text Edit.
If this happened to you, go to System/Library/Caches folder and trash the following files (don't worry, they will be re-created when you restart your Mac):
com.apple.IntlDataCache.le
com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.kbdx
com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.sbdl
com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.tecx
As you are attempting to cancel files from System folder, you will be asked for an administrator ID and password.
If you don't have an administrator ID and password, ask the system manager in your office.
After you insert an administrator ID and password, the files will be trashed.
Restart your Mac.
Open System Prefererences (in the apple menu, or inside the main Applications folder), open the International pane, and click the input menu. You will find again the character palette and keyboard viewer items with their chechboxes.
Click the two checkboxes. Be sure to click also at the bottom of the pane the checkbox labeled show the keyboard menu in the menu bar.
Exit System Preferences.
In the right side of the menu bar you will find a menulet with your nation's flag. Click the flag and you will find both character palette and keyboard viewer.
Also, the special characters item in the edit menu of the applications that have this item will work as expected, and will open the characters palette.

Character Palette no longer works properly

I use the character palette frequently and it worked beautifully in 10.4.4, especially in Keynote. Now I can not use Math symbols unless I select the symbol font. Before the symbol would appear when I double clicked it in the palette window regardless of which font was selected. Further, Keynote presentations I had created under system 10.4.4 were changed so that the characters I had selected previously are gone. Now I have to reenter every character and that means undoing the build that is associated with the line in the slide. Is there a fix for this? Is this a quirk of the latest upgrade to 10.4.5? Any help to salvage hours of work will be greatly appreciated.

I noticed the first time that the character for "proportional to" would not work. Also the Boolean algebra symbols do not work. Only the Capitol Pi and Sigma and integral signs work. The triple equal sign, congruency sign, and nearly equal character do not come through. They did in the past. It is possible that these characters were automatically converted to Apple Symbol or gothic without my being aware of it. I did not check when they were used in the past.
I do not know what caused the loss, but suspect it is somehow part of the new system update. If I can use Apple Gothic or Apple symbol fonts for the symbols I need then I will adapt and use them. On the other hand if I have some kind of error in the code in my system or the application I need to know it.
I would prefer to be able to use the character palette directly as in the past, but perhaps that is wishful thinking.
I did reload Keynote 3 and it made no difference. I am loathe to reload the system and revert back if it can be avoided. thank you for your input thus far, it has helped me sort out what is going on.

Screen Sharing no longer works for me with Lion

I use screen sharing all the time, I have several Macs. Ever since I loaded Lion (on all systems) it opens screen sharing, asks for my username and password and loads the screen; I see the screen(s) for about a second then it prompts me again with my login to gain access. It repeats this over and over with my login.
Anybody know what can be done to correct this issue?

This is an issue I have encountered too. Mac to Mac on Lion its sporadic at best - even when you do get in, you will get a strange jerky beachball on the host computer whilst everything appears to be working fine.
Windows to Lion its seriously borked, and you can't even click on an account to log in. Its something to do with ZRLE encoding of the session, and the fact its the first multi session VNC attempt. It rejects the connection unless its 101% happy with it.
Mountain Lion makes this a bit easier...I think they glossed over this in Lion and released a new one instead.
So whilst its not a solution, more of a workaround - your best bet is to upgrade to ML. By all means try making a freshh account on the host computer that matches the client compuer, and see if that authenticates properly. It should do.
Cheaper option: turn screen sharing off, use Vine as your VNC server instead (http://www.testplant.com/products/vine/). You can even do multi session if you want to tinker with some settings and read the forums.

Pages '09 Character Spacing No Longer Working

So I tried the new Pages 5 today and it is lacking too many features to count, but most notably for me facing pages and character spacing. I went back to use Pages '09 (version 4.3) and character spacing no longer works for many fonts.
For example, with Century Gothic, when I increase the font size, the characters overlap. When I decreate the font size, they space out like crazy. It's like the physical space the letters take up stays the same regardless of the font size. The character spacing slider in inspector does not work at all for these problem fonts.

I am kind of freaking out - I use Pages to lay out books for my clients and I have no idea what to do. Can anyone help me figure out what to do? I suspect Pages '09 is no longer working for me as a result of the Mavericks upgrade, but I really don't know since I just upgraded to Mavericks a few days ago and hadn't been using Pages with anything other than the Calibri and Impact fonts (which are working fine) since then. Today I started a new book in Pages 5, discovered Century Gothic wouldn't work, so tried to go back to Pages 4.3 and discovered the problem.

Okay, so I think I fixed my issue of some fonts not spacing properly in Pages '09 since I updated to Mavericks and installed Pages 5. It's weird though (at least to me)!
1) I tried deleting and reinstalling the font... that didn't work.
2) Per the suggestion in another post, I checked Pages '09 in another account on this computer. I logged out of my account and logged into the guest user account. I opened Pages '09.
3) I typed something into a blank document. The default font was Helvetica, but it was showing up very weird - all these accented, unrecognizable characters. I tried Century Gothic (the font I've been using as an example in this thread). It worked fabulously! I could increase the font, decrease the font, etc. and it behaved normally - no wonky spacing or overlapping characters.
4) Confused by why Helvetica was no longer working now, I opened up FontBook in the guest user account. To my surprise, there were at least a dozen duplicate fonts... this was not an issue in the main account I was having the issue in. Incidentally, Helvetica was NOT one of the fonts with a duplicate - it validated fine.
5) I highlighted all of the fonts and selected to resolve duplicates automatically.
6) I went back into Pages '09 (I may have quit and restarted the application) in the guest user account (same account I was already in). Suddenly, Helvetica was working. Century Gothic was working. Everything seemed to be working.
7) I logged out of the guest user account and logged back into my main account.
8) I re-opened Pages '09 and started a new document. It still works! I looked in FontBook. It looks exactly like how it looked before - no duplicate fonts.
SO: Although no one has ever used the guest account on this computer, it seems to me that somehow its FontBook was totally messed up and somehow resolving the duplicate fonts in the guest user FontBook also fixed my issue in my own account (even though there were no duplicates in that FontBook in the first place).
I am thrilled that this is working, but confused as to why. If any of you smartie pants' out there can shed some light, it would be mucho appreciated.

Command plus is no longer working for me correctly in Safari 8.0.2. When I use it to zoom in a safari window, it makes fonts bigger instead of scaling the entire page bigger like it used to. What changed or what did I accidentally change? This is only happening in Safari. When I use Command Plus in a Chrome or firefox browser window, it works perfectly still.
To explain this a little better, I have a 27" iMac. When I open a browser widow in safari like yahoo.com, The content fits in about a 10.5" section of the screen. If i go to full screen or enlarge the window to fit the full screen the same 10.5" content is centered in my screen. Previously, I could use Command Plus to zoom and the entire page would scale increasing from 10.5" to eventually filling the screen. Now when I use command plus, the font's get bigger and bigger but the page width stays at 10.5"

Welcome to the Support Communities! If I'm understanding you correctly, it appears you have updated Safari to the latest version, but are still using Mountain Lion as your operating system, is that correct?
You may need to adjust your screen resolution, or the zoom settings in the Accessibility pane of System preferences. Usually, zooming changes the size of text or content in a window -- not the size of the window itself. So I usually go to full screen mode in Safari, and then zoom in if I need to enlarge the text.

Re-download the Facebook APP on your computer and then sync it to the iPhone.
Make sure your computer is logged into the same iTunes ID that shows up on your iPhone when you try to download an APP on the iPhone.

Additionally, using an old version of Firefox is ill-advised as old versions contain uncorrected security vulnerabilities. Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

Bluetooth no longer works for incoming calls after recent update

When I updated my Bluetooth to iOS 6, the Bluetooth no longer works for incoming calls. I press button to answer call, it makes a small cracking noise, and then sends the call to my phone. I can use the Bluetooth for outgoing calls and it works just fine. I was hoping when I updated to iOS 6.0.1 that the problem would be fixed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Bluetooth but that has not helped either. I am frustrated. I have a LG HBM-905 Bluetooth that I loved prior to this problem.
