Character tracking in Photoshop Elements

I am using Photoshop Elements version 10. I am trying to increase the spacing of characters. Everywhere I go for help it says to use the character panel under Windows. I don't have that. Am i missing something?

The Adobe Photoshop Elements is the best place for Photoshop Elements questions, so please take a look at the following which may be what you are looking for (straight from the Adobe Photoshop Elements threads)....
Script:  Adjust tracking (character spacing) of text
Please let us know if that worked for you.
From what I have found...you can adjust the spacing between lines of text in Photoshop Elements 10, but there is no adjusting the spacing between letters within the program as offered.

  • Drawing on video in photoshop Elements

It is my understanding that in Photoshop Elements I am able to place a circle around a moving object or person and have that circle stay with/track the moving object or person as the video plays? Is this correct??

No. You need the Premiere Elements video editing program to do that. The feature is called 'Motion Tracking'. Photoshop Elements cannot process video.
Premiere Elements has it's own Adobe forum and, if you've not bought it you can download a thirty day free trial to see if the feature does exactly what you want. The feature is reasonably straight-forward in use but results can be variable depending on a lot of factors. If you have problems using it, then post your question in the PRE forum - http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements?view=discussions.

  • Photoshop Elements Track Pad Bug

Several users of Photoshop Elements have posted to Adobe Forum and Adobe says they are preparing a bug report and urge complainers to send report to Apple. The track pad does not work with various selection tools (Quick Select, Lasso and don't know what else) in Photoshop Elements 11 and 12.  It either crashes the program or just gives a spinning ball  so the user has to force quit.  Yet, these selection tools work with a mouse.  Not sure if Photoshop Elements 13 has the same problem as I have not yet upgraded from 12 to 13.  Not sure what else may be broken in Yosemite track pad use.  Hope someone comes up with a solution soon as users of portable Macs are unhappy to have to use a Mouse when they thought they were getting a truly portable machine.  The iMac trackpad is similarly affected so it seems to be a general track pad problem.

There are guides in the past couple of versions but not in PSE 6. Some of the add-on tools for PSE 6, like the free Grant's tools:
    http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/Tools/Files.html
will give you the ability to create guides in older versions.

  • I want to track the frame number displayed in the camera and match it with the ID of the photo in Photoshop Elements

Since I may take photos of people and many in a row, I want to log the camera's frame number and have Photoshop Elements import that number or at least show it in the photo properties.  Any suggestions, please.  Thanks  I am using a Fuji Finepix HS 30 EXP digital camera.

  • Mac Yosemite Photoshop Elements 12 track pad problem

Is Adobe fixing this? Need it fixed NOW!

    Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
    1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
    2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
    Plug-in installation instructions:
    1. Close Photoshop Elements
    2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
    3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
    • For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
    • For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
    Hope this helps!

  • Negative character tracking

Is there any way to do negative character tracking? Other than to individually separate each character.
It is possible in many other apps such as Muse, Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop. Why is not a feature in Adobe Edge Animate?

Use css letter-spacing, example an element I have on the Stage called 'Text'
// Place code in event handler
// Change the element reference to reflect your element
    sym.$("Text").css({"letter-spacing":"-10px"});

  • Using iPhoto and editing with Photoshop Elements 4

    Hello
I am new to Macs after many years using PC and I am struggling to set up my photo workflow. I shoot in RAW format and input into iPhoto from iPhoto I double click on the photo and which opens the RAW editor in Photoshop Elements. After making changes I open the file in Photoshop and then save as a TIFF.
My problem is I do not see the changed and saved file in iPhoto and if I double click on the photo again it opens back up in the RAW editor not as a TIFF.
Can any one point me in the right direction to solve this or is what I am trying to do not possible
    Thanks
    Grant

    Grant
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
What you're trying to do is not possible.
When you save as a TIFF you create a whole new file that needs to be imported into iPhoto anew. iPhoto will track an edit as long as you stay with the same file - so, edit your jpeg in PSE and use the 'Save' command and the change is reflected in iPhoto. However, you cannot Save RAW files, it's always a Save As... and so the resulting file has to be imported.

  • Using iPhoto 08 with Photoshop elements

I am a recent Mac convert and I'm loving it.
However, I need some help understanding how best to use Photoshop Elements in conjunction with iPhoto 08. I was thinking I could use iPhoto to keep track of photos and do basic edits and link to other iLife apps etc, and use Photoshop to do more indepth editing.
I would like to know the most efficient way to open photos from inside iPhoto, into Photoshop. And how to get them back into iPhoto.
I realise I can drag a photo and create a copy on to the desk top and then open it with Photoshop, do some editing, save it to a/any folder, then import it back into iPhoto but…
    1) is there a better way to do this?
    2) I'm concerned with filling up my hard drive with multiple copies!
I'd be greatful for any help, Thanks

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I don't want to import PHOTOS. I want to get only one into Lightroom for temporary work. How do I do this. (the photo is now in Photoshop Elements).

Don't want to import all photos from my camera or anywhere else. I only want to work on one image then put it back into Elements. Please tell me how to do this and I would appreciate a detailed answer. Please do not be vague.

Lightroom is not a file browser, It isn't anything like the organizer in Photoshop Elements. Lightroom uses a catalog, which is a database. That database keeps track of the location of images that have been imported, as well as all of the adjustments that you make to those images using Lightroom. The import process is a process of showing Lightroom where the images are located on your computer. You can't just open an image in Lightroom, make changes and then close it. Lightroom doesn't make changes to the original image. Your images are left in their pristine state. All the changes are stored in the catalog. And when it comes time to share an image that has been adjusted in Lightroom you need to export a copy that includes all of those changes. It's a different workflow, and one that you need to become accustomed to. I suggest that you watch a series of short tutorials that will help you understand more completely how Lightroom works.

  • FAQ: Why is Photoshop Elements cheaper? What's different about Photoshop?

    What is Photoshop CS/CC (PSCS/PSCC)?
Photoshop is a professional tool used throughout many industries as the standard for digital image manipulation and painting. It has very rich, and often complex, tools and options. As such, it comes with a professional price tag.
    What is Photoshop Elements (PSE)?
Photosohp Elements is a consumer product. It's made for users who don't need as many features and complex options. It has a simpler design, guided workflows, and an organizer to help you manage your files.
What are the some of the specific differences?
Here is a list of some of the major differences between Photoshop Elements and Photoshop:
Adobe Camera Raw differences between Photoshop and Photoshop Elements
Photoshop Elements comes with a database driven Digital Asset Management application called Elements Organizer. Photoshop comes with Bridge, a file navigation system that operates much like Windows Explorer or Macintosh Finder. While there are several functions that both Organizer and Bridge use, they are fundamentally different applications and serve different purposes.
Photoshop Elements does not support the following color modes: Duotone, CMYK, Lab, Multichannel
There is very little 16-bit support in Photshop Elements. You cannot create or convert an image to 16-bit, only open images that are already 16-bit. While working with a 16-bit image you cannot work with layers. The following tools do not work: Magic Wand, Selection Brush, the family of Type tools, Recompose, Cookie Cutter, Straighten, the brush based tools (Paint Brush, Eraser, Dodge, Blur, etc), or the shape based tools (Rectangle, Ellipse, Custom Shape, etc). Many filters do not work, mainly those featured in the Filter Gallery.
Photoshop Elements does not fully support Smart Objects. While you can open files that already have Smart Object layers, you cannot create Smart Objects nor open the files embedded as Smart Objects.
Photoshop Elements does not have a Channels panel. Nor does it have the Channel Mixer Adjustment/Enhancement.
Photoshop Elements cannot merge multiple/bracketed photo exposures into an HDR image. There is no support for 32-bit images. However, Photoshop Elements does offer Photomerge Exposure as a similar function.
Photoshop Elements does not use the same range of Content-Aware functions. While the Spot Healing Brush includes the Content-Aware option in both applications, Photoshop Elements does not have Conent-Aware as an option in the Edit > Fill Layer command (known simply as Edit > Fill in Photoshop). However, Photoshop Elements does use a Content-Aware Fill option when creating a Photomerge Panorama, this is not an option in Photoshop. Photoshop CS6 introduced the Content-Aware Extend and Move tools, which are not available in Photoshop Elements.
Photoshop Elements has fewer vector based tools. The Pen family of tools are not available. The Shape tools do create a vector shape layer, but the vector points cannot be edited individually. There is no Paths panel.
The licence from a boxed purchase of Photoshop Elements is multi-platform (as of version 9). This means you can install on either Windows or Macintosh or both without having to purchase a separate version. This was not true with Photoshop. However, with Creative Cloud we no longer sell boxed products and all licenses are multi-platform.
Photoshop Elements does not have the Subtract or Divide blending modes that were introduced in Photoshop CS5.
Photoshop and Photoshop Elements can both Transform selected pixels in the following ways: Scale, Rotate, Skew, Distort, and Perspective. Photoshop Elements does not have the Warp Transform option.
The Photoshop Elements Color Picker does not include the following options available in Photoshop's Color Picker: the Not a web-safe color alert icon, the Add to Swatches and Color Libraries buttons, and the Lab and CMYK models.
Photoshop Extended CS6 has the following panels that Photoshop Elements 11 does not: 3D*, Brush, Brush Presets, Channels, Character, Character Styles, Clone Source, Color, Layer Comps, Measurement Log*, Notes, Paragraph, Paragraph Styles, Paths, Properties, Styles, Timeline, and Tool Presets.
Photoshop Elements does not support Extensions such as Mini Bridge and Kuler.
*In some release versions of Photoshop, there Standard and Extended variants. Marked features are only available in Photoshop Extended, where applicable.
[EDITORS NOTE: This is a work in progress, this list is not yet comprehensive]

I found 3 crashes under your name.  2 of them are uncommon, but occur in the ExtensisFontManagement plugin and appear to be due to a bug in the plugin.  The first is a crash on quit, and the second is Extensis attempting to override Alerts for some odd reason, and their override fails.
The third crash cause happens more frequently, cause unknown, but it looks very, very similar to the Extensis Alert override bug.
So, try disabling the ExtensisFontManagement plugin, and I suspect your Photoshop CS4 experience will be a lot happier.

  • Can I FTP large photos directly from iphoto or Photoshop Elements?

I have been uploading large jpegs onto another server using ftp plug-in with Aperture. But it strips the photo info, captions etc from the file, which is crucial information for my clients. Does any one know why this is happening, If I could ftp directly from iphoto or Photoshop elements even, it would be easier for me as I don't find aperture useful for multiple batch changes in file names and captions.
Currently I have been editing the file names and comments in iphoto, exporting 'version name' (other wise it exports the original file name) to a folder on the desktop and then importing these files into aperture where I use a plug in AperturetoFTPpro. I do have the export version box checked and not the 'master' box - By now i've lost track of which it thinks the 'master' or 'version' is!
not sure what's causing the problem, iphoto or aperture.
When i look at the metadata in aperture, I can't see the captions, but if i open the same file in photoshop and do 'apple i' the info is there.

To the best of my knowledge, there's no way to FTP directly out of iPhoto that's built into iPhoto, but you can try asking in the iPhoto forum where if anyone knows how you'll be more likely to get a response. There is a third-party product called PhotoUpLink that the developer says works with iPhoto that you could try.
The same applies to your Aperture question; try asking in the Aperture forum, though if you're using the demo plugin that comes in the Aperture Plug-In SDK, that's really not intended to be "production quality" but rather just an example of plugin development, so it may well lack capabilities or otherwise have issues. You might take a look at PhotoUpLink or Uberload for Aperture,
Not using Photoshop Elements I can't say about that, but Adobe runs their own forums for that here where you could ask.
    Regards.

  • Missing profile in Photoshop Elements

    Dear all,
Recently, when I open a file (jpeg or psd) with my Photoshop Elements, it always pops up a "Missing Profile" warning box, saying "This file does not have a color profile associated with it, what would you like to do? Leave it as it is (Don't color manager), Assign adobe RGB or Assign sRGB"
How can I fix this problem?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Many thanks~

The answer is to assign the profile that the file should have been saved with.
JPGs and PSDs should have been saved with a color profile and some of what you’ve been working with have not been saved properly, so PSE is asking you when you open them what to use.
If these are your own images taken with a camera then you should know what the profile was set in the camera as well as if you’ve converted from one profile to another in PSE.
If these are images from somewhere else, then maybe the source can tell you what profile they were saved with.  If you have no way of asking or knowing then try each of AdobeRGB and sRGB and see which one looks better.
An image that should be AdobeRGB but is wrongly assigned sRGB will look faded and greenish.  An image that should be sRGB but wrongly assigned AdobeRGB will look oversaturated a little.  The differences may be subtle but one version should look better to you.
If these are your images, then always save them with a color profile so you won’t lose track of it and have to guess in the future.  If these are someone else’s images, then talk to the other person and see if you can get them to assign the proper color profile to them.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 and 9

When I downloaded Photoshop Elements (PSE) 11 on March 28 it worked perfect as of Friday April 5 each time I try to open the software I get an error message that states "Program unable to open due to missing file(s). Please reinstall" The same thing happens with PSE 9. I have reinstalled both PSE 11 and 9 absolutely no help.  Where did the missing file go???
I called the Adobe help number and was told it would cost $39 for them to help me, after much discussion they agreed to help this one time. The girl who tried to help me first told me I could not run PSE 11 on Windows XP. She later backed down and indicated that I could provided I had service pack 3.  I told her I had been running PSE 11 for 7 days before this proble occured. She took control of my computer and tried a lot of things none of which worked. She finally eliminated or by passed the Welcome Screen and PSE 11 an 9 will now open but they both by-pass the Welcome Screen.  What is going on?
Should I just give up on all Adobe products?  I like PSE 9 and it appeared that PSE 11 would be better. I would like to remain an Adobe customer.
    PLEASE HELP ME
I forget to indicate that Photoshop Premire Elements 9 and 11 work without any problems.

We really cannot know. So far you haven't told us anything about your system nor is there any feasible way to diagnose what this "missing file" could be, no matter what. That is, short of elaborate tracking and observation using specialised system diagnosis tools. The welcome screens can be brough back via the Help menu, but well, this might bring back the problems as well. Anyway, this is most likely nothing that a forum can help you with. If you know a computer geek, give him a call. Otherwise I don't see what we could do for you.
