Characteristic as an InfoProvider

Hello all!
I have the following problem:
I wanted to make a query based on my characteristic alone, but I cannot see it in BEx on InfoAreas tab...
The char. itself is OK: it has transfer rules, transfer structure and is inserted as DataTarget in respective InfoArea. I loaded some data in this characteristic (btw, it has only long text, but has no master data).
What could be the reason that I cannot see it in BEx?
Thank you in advance!

Hi,
After changing the Info object into a Data Target,Close the sessions relevent to reporting(make sure it in also SM04) and relogin. Then you will see the Info Object in the respetive Info Area ,when you are trying to create new query.

    Hello Robert,
    when InfoObject is set as InfoProvider the entry with its name is created in the table RSDINFOPROVDATA.

  • Characteristic as InfoProvider and Key in ODS?

    Hi,
    Can I use a Characteristic as both InfoProvider and as KeyField in ODS?
    If I have to use it as InfoProvider I need to turn on "Character is InfoProvider" in Master Data/Texts tabstrip.
    So will setting this option to effect my using of same characteristic as keyfield in an ods?
    Thanks,
    Pradeep

    The only thing the InfoObject as InfoProvider does is make the master data a reportable target.  You can then build queries to report on the master data, and build Infosets between the ODS and the master data InfoProvider to be able to do some of the slow moving item reporting.

  • Characteristic Relationship Error

    Hi
    I am deriving 0fiscper by concatenating 0fiscper3 and 0fiscyear. This works perfrectly in BPS. However, when I define the characteristic relationship in IP I get hte following error when checking:
    Characteristic relationships for InfoProvider ZSEM_C20 are inconsistent
    Relationship 01 is inconsistent
    Contains generic time derivation 0FISCYEAR,0FISCPER3 -> 0FISCPER
    Not permitted
    The code for this is exacthly the same as for another derivation I did in BPS. How do I do this in IP?
    L.

    Hi,
    In IP, their are default characteristic relationships for time characteristics which are always active. This wont show in the properties of the real time infoprovider (char. rel. tab) but this will be active and cannot be overridden; this is different from BPS where no such automatic chal. rel.s were present.
    Therefore, you need not code them in an IP implementation.
    Hope this clears your issue.

  • Adding characteristic

    Hi'.
    I have added a new characteristic to an infoprovider and assigned it to a new dimension. When I transport this correction to our QA system, I get an error stating : <b>"InfoCube contains data; intentional changes not permitted"</b>.
    I have found an OSS message(934250) which adresses issues around changing line item dimensions (which I haven't) but also adresses an issue regarding partitioning of infocube. We have not partitioned the cube, so I have no clue on what to do as deleting data and reloading is out of the question due to the amount of data. Can anyone help me out on this? I am on a 3.0B system using Oracle.
    KR Michael

    Hi
    You can add charecteristics but after adding the charecteristics you need to do the following
    Remove the data in the cube
    Reload the data into the cube after the addition of the charecteristics
    In Bi7, there is an option called remodelling tool which enables you to add charecteristics without removing the cube data. In all lower versions you have to remove data and reload to capture the records for the newly added charecteristics

  • Difference between data target & Infoprovider.

    Hi all,
    Difference between data target & Infoprovider.
    why cube is best in performance wise other than ods,multiproviders.
    Thanks,
    cheta.

    A data target is an object into which data is loaded. Data targets are the physical objects relevant during data modeling and when loading the data.
    Structure
    Data targets are:
    InfoCubes
    ODS objects
          InfoObjects (characteristics with attributes, texts or hierarchies).
    There are differences between:
    Pure data targets for which no queries can be created or executed. An InfoCube might only be used as a data source for another InfoCube. This is also possible for ODS objects and InfoObjects.
    If you want a characteristic to appear in the InfoProvider tree, you have to assign an InfoArea to it. You can define update rules for the characteristic in the InfoProvider tree, and use them to load attributes and texts.
    You can turn a characteristic into a data target only if the characteristic contains texts or attributes. It is not possible to use update rules to load hierarchies.
    Data targets for which queries can be defined. These are called InfoProviders.

  • Currency Translation feature in BEx reports

    Hi colleagues,
    As you know, when creating queries, you can right click a given key figure and from Currency Translation frame you can select a customized Currency Conversion Key so OLAP engine displays the "converted" value of such Key figure. Standard TCURR table is used for the conversion.
    Also, RRC1 txn. code can be used to create Currency Translation Keys to be used in query designer as described before.
    I have created a "currency translation key" (let's name it ZTAXILOC) in RRC1.
    I have changed my query in the query designer to use this "customized Currency Conversion Key (ZTAXILOC)". My query uses an InfoSet as "infoprovider".
    However, when executing query on BEx Analyzer, I receive error message "Cannot apply currency translation type ZTAXILOC in infocube ZTXA04LA3", where ZTXA04LA3 is the name of my infoset that feeds my query.
    The Diagnosis is: "You tried to translate a query element with the currency translation type ZTAXILOC. The translation type ZTAXILOC, however, has VARIABLE TIME REFERENCE, relevant to "DH Document Date" characteristic, which is not available in ZTXA04LA3 infoprovider....".
    The "DH Document Date" characteristic exists in the ZTXA04LA3 infoset, but technical name changes since for Infosets, BW system dynamically assigns a technical name for each element in the join and it differs from technical in source ODS.
    My question is:
    Can I use custom "currency translation keys" in query designer if my query uses an infoset as infoprovider? or is custom "currency translation key" just allowed in queries that use an ODS/InfoCube as infoprovider? or should I provide RRC1 with technical name for "DH Document Date" existing on ZTXA04LA3 infoset?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.
    Mario Vallejo.

    We are running into similar currrency conversion issues on an infoset.  We have an existing currency conversion key created using RRC1.  The existing currency key is set up as follows:
    TO_USD     Convert to USD (Billing)
    Exchange Rate Type = Standard translation at average rate
    Dynamic Exchange Rate Determination = Yes
    Inverse Exchange Rate = No
    Source Currency from Data Record = Yes
    InfoObject for Determining the Source Currency = No
    Selection of Target Currency with Translation = No
    Fixed Target Currency = Yes = USD
    InfoObject for Determining Target Currency = No
    Fixed Time Reference = No
    Variable Time Reference = Yes = To the Exact Day = Special InfoObject (0BILL_DATE)
    Query Key Date = No
    We convert sales amounts to USD using this conversion key on existing cubes.  When trying to apply the same conversion key to the new infoset, we received the following error:
    Diagnosis:You tried to translate a query element with the currency translation type TO_USD. The translation type TO_USD, however, has variable time reference or variable target currency relevant to characteristic Billing doc. date. Characteristic Billing doc. date is also not available in InfoProvider ZBILLCOST and it references either none or more than one characteristic () of the InfoProvider for Billing doc. date, or Billing doc. date is not a base characteristic.
    We have tried to steps in the response to this thread and continue to receive the error.
    In Step 1, the only thing that we think we can change is the info object text in the infoset, not the technical name, is this correct?
    In Step 2 & Step 3, we have never used variables for currency conversion.  We create the currency key using the RRC1 and select the info object for conversion.  We did try creating a new currency key in RRC1 and tried to find the newly named (text) info-object for billing date on the infoset, but it wasn't listed as an option under special info-object.  Do you have more information on how to create the variable in query designer and how it is used and how to assign to the currency translation?

  • A simple query to show sales versus last year on daily basis/

    Hi guys,
    I want to build a simple query with day (1,2,3,4,5,6) on the rows and "sales current year" and "sales last year"
    on the columns.
    I have only 0CALDAY in my cube.
    How can I have on the rows the day in stead of the full date?
    I would like to see in the sames row sales current year and sales last year.
    Thanks
    Shlomi

    HI Shlomi
    Create a virtual characteristic in your infoprovider that can calculate the day from calendar Day. In ZXRSRZZZ while adding code for this virtual characteristic use the function module DATE_COMPUTE_DAY to compute the day for every calendar day.
    For calculating Sales Current year, create a restricted ky figure with Sales as the key figure. Add 0CalDay to this RKF and create a variable for this infoobject(Eg: ZCURYEAR) that will receive input from the user for the range of dates eg: 08/16/2009 - 08/22/2009.
    For Sales Prior year, create another restricted key figure with Sales. Add 0CalDay to this RKF and add a customer exit variable. In the Customer exit code use the ZCURYEAR variable and offset it to prior year in both the upper and lower limits. This should work.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Change date format in BEx report

    There is a date field in report which is character type.
    ZCOMDAT - compensation date (CHAR 8)
    The output of this file in report is YYYYMMDD (20110422) format which is char
    This should be converted to 22-APR-2011 in BEx report.
    This object is used in many reports but only in this report it should be converted.
    How can this be achieved?

    Hi akshara,
    Apart from the above mentioned approaches i have one strange solution . You might want to consider this .
    You said you have an infoobject ZCOMDAT of type char(8) .
    Proceed like this :
    1) In the infoobject maintain medium text for this . Insert this characteristic as an infoprovider .
    2) Now since this infoobject will have the dates in the master data and hence in /BIC/PZCOMDAT table .
    Create a generic datasource on this table : /BIC/PZCOMDAT .
    Now create a transformation between this generic datasource & the text master data of ZCOMDAT.
    map date and objvers to the text in the transformation .
    And write the following routine at the field level :
    If SOURCE_FIELDS-OBJVERS = 'A'.
    year = SOURCE_FIELDS-/BIC/PZCOMDAT+0(4).
    mon = SOURCE_FIELDS-/BIC/PZCOMDAT+4(2).
    dd = SOURCE_FIELDS-/BIC/PZCOMDAT+6(2).
    if mon = '01'.
      mth = 'JAN'.
    ELSEIF mon = '02'.
      mth = 'FEB'.
    ELSEIF mon = '03'.
      mth = 'MAR'.
    ELSEIF mon = '04'.
      mth = 'APR'.
      ELSEIF mon = '05'.
      mth = 'MAY'.
      ELSEIF mon = '06'.
      mth = 'JUN'.
      ELSEIF mon = '07'.
      mth = 'JUL'.
      ELSEIF mon = '08'.
      mth = 'AUG'.
      ELSEIF mon = '09'.
      mth = 'SEP'.
      ELSEIF mon = '10'.
      mth = 'OCT'.
      ELSEIF mon = '11'.
      mth = 'NOV'.
      ELSEIF mon = '12'.
      mth = 'DEC'.
      ENDIF.
    CONCATENATE DD '-' MTH '-' YEAR INTO RESULT.
    CLEAR:DD,MTH,YEAR.
    endif.
    After this load the the data . Now your text of this object will be having the date required in your format.
    3) In the query level display text for this infoobject .The date will appear in the format as you desired .
    You have to include the above flow in a process chain .
    Using the above method will not effect your query performance also as the calculation are happening during loading .
    Hope the above reply was helpful.

  • What Variables have been used in a Query???

    Hi All,
      how can i find out what variables are being used by a particular standard query in Query Designer level. When we open a query in query designer on the left panel expanding a characteristic we can see what are the available variables in that characteristic for the InfoProvider but i want to know among them which are being used by that query in designer level without going to analyzer.
    Thanks,
    Pritam.

    Hi Pritam,
    You need to use three tables to obtain this informaiton:
    1. rszglobv - List of All the variables
    2. rszetlxref - Cross reference between global variables and query name
    3. rszcomdir - Query Name
    Here is a sample program to obtian this info:
    REPORT  ZLIST_OF_VAR_4_QUERY.
    TABLES: RSZCOMPDIR.
    SELECT-OPTIONS: S_QUERY FOR RSZCOMPDIR-COMPID NO INTERVALS.
    TYPES: BEGIN OF ty_query,
      COMPID type RSZCOMPDIR-COMPID,
      vnam type rszglobv-vnam,
      end of ty_query.
    data: t_query TYPE TABLE OF ty_query.
    SELECT ACOMPID CVNAM
    INTO TABLE t_query
    FROM RSZCOMPDIR as a
      INNER JOIN rszeltxref as b
      on ( acompuid = bseltuid )
      INNER JOIN rszglobv as c
      on ( bteltuid = cvaruniid )
    where a~objvers = 'A'
      and c~objvers = 'A'
      and a~compid in s_query.
    You can output the data from the internal table t_query any way you want it.

  • How can we generate a report in master data?

    hi,
    can we generate a report in master data,if yes pl give me the procedure, i am un able to get it.
    thanks & regards
    venkat

    Hi,
    Once we make the MAster infoobject as the data target, then we can create the report on the master data. to make the IO as Data target , you just need to mention the tick mark for<i> Infoprovide</i> check box  in the <i>MAster data /Texts</i> tab page of the IO.
    help says that:
    <i>InfoProvider:
    This indicator specifies whether the characteristic is an InfoProvider.
    If you want to use a characteristic as an InfoProvider, you have to assign an InfoArea to the characteristic. The system displays the characteristic in the InfoProvider tree in the Data Warehousing Workbench. You can use the characteristic as an InfoProvider in reporting and analysis.
    You can only use a characteristic as an InfoProvider if the characteristic contains texts or attributes.
    You can define queries for the characteristic (more precisely, for the master data of the characteristic) if you are using a characteristic as an InfoProvider. In this case, on the Attributes tabstrip, you are able to switch-on dual-level navigation attributes (navigation attributes for navigation attributes) for this characteristic in its role as InfoProvider.</i>

  • Creating a Master Data InfoObject: BI 7:

    Good day again.
    BI 7
    On the Master data/Text tab when creating an InfoObject...
    I have a question or 2:
    (1) Should the tick for "InfoSource with Direct Update" be selected if I create the IO and using Transformations and DTP?
    (2) If I only want to load MD to the InfoObject, should it be marked as "Character is InfoProvider"? I am asking this, becuase when I create the DTP, it requests that I select the InfoArea for the IO Infoprovider. Do you always have to load master data to and IO in BI7 to an InfoProvider as well?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cj

    Hi.......
    (1) Should the tick for "InfoSource with Direct Update" be selected if I create the IO and using Transformations and DTP?
    Characteristic is an InfoSource with Direct Update": Means that the char itself will be the InfoSource. This is the case with majority BW InfoObjects and in this case you do not need update rules to load data to the InfoObject. Take a look on the InfoSource area of RSA1 and you will see many examples of such InfoObjects.Select this field and press F1............you will get the document........
    Yes.......This indicator shoul be set.....to use the characteristic as an infoprovider.........I mean creating transformation,DTP........But you cannot set this indicator directly..........But rather you can set it by entering infoarea into the respective field...................or after creating the infoobject go to infoprovider tab in the left........Choose the infoarea >> right click on it >> Insert characteristic as an infoprovider..........then this field will get ticked automatically and the infoarea also get automatically assigned.........
    And only IO stores master data...............Infocube will never store master data.............DSO can sometimes store master data...........
