Characteristic restriction

Hello Experts,
In our current BI7.0 security landscape we are facing an authorisation problem. The user executes a particular report the report gets executed properly, but when the user tries to drilldown on a characteristic (say:- salesrep) the user gets a message "You do not have sufficient authorization"
When we switched on the trace (ST01), the analysis file showed missing authorisation is S_RS_AUTH = OBI_ALL. This doesnt seem to be the actual missing authorisation. We have maintained all basic activities like display,print edit messages,display change documents, refresh etc.
Can you please advise on this issue. In anticipation of your reply. Thanks in advance...

Hello,
It seems that transaction SU53 is asking for 0BI_ALL. You should not
use this transaction to analysis authorization. You should record an
authorization trace and analyze it (transaction RSECADMIN). See text
in Note 820183.
"Transaction SU53 (ST01) does not contain any entries that are
relevant for analysis authorizations."
Maybe notes 820183 and 1052242 can help you in this matter.

Hi,
I have given some Characteristic Restrictions in query designer's filter tab.But when i created universe on it,its not working here.
Even i have provided condition in SAP BI query,still this is also not working in universe.

what kind of restriction do you apply (constant values, variables, what kind of operator do you use etc)?
Which version of BO do you use?
Conditions defined in thehe query designer are not applied in the universe. This is by design. Characteristic restrictions defined in filter section should work though.

How to SAVE a selected Characteristic Restriction

I'm using BW 7.0.
How to save a selected Characteristic Restriction so the next time the user access the report he or she can re-use the saved selection?
For a specific SRM report the user can restrict report result selecting buyers, which can be too many (~200). Its very important that the user does not have to select each one every time he or she access this report.
Any tips?

Time characteristic restriction in BW BPS

Hi to all,
I got one question for BW-BPS. This was happened after upgrade of Netweaver
service pack. Before that it was fine. My question is as follow:
Under DW workbench when I create an InfoProvider which included time dimension
that consist of fiscal year, fiscal year/period, posting period, calendar
year, calender year/ month. I try to select fiscal year, fiscal year/period
under a planning level, then I select unassigned(#) time characteristic for
fiscal year/period and save it. System allow for this restriction under time
characteristic fiscal year/period. However, if I deselect fiscal year, fiscal
year/period under a planning level and select calendar year, calender year/
month under the same planning level, then I select unassigned(#) time
characteristic for calender year/ month and save it. System was not allow for
this restriction for time characteristic and generate the following message:
Message: UPC003- Value# is not permitted for characteristic calendar
year/month.
There was no characteristic relationship set for time dimension
characteristics. I still not understand why system is not allow for
unassigned(#) time characteristic selection for calender year/ month
Therefore, I would like to need a support for this. Is it a system error?

Thanks for your guide. I already try as per your instruction but not work because when I create a planning level with only 0calmonth, system still not allow me to include unassigned (#) for time restriction. May be I could explain to you why I need to select unassigned (#) for 0calmonth.
My explanation is as follows:
Actually I already create a planning level with selected time characteristic calender year only for example Year 2008 and input value. Now I want to distribute the yearly figure to monthly, therefore I need to create another planning level and perform top down distribution. In the top down planning level, I have to select calender year/month for time characteristic and restrict the period to Jan 2008 to Dec 2008 and include unassigned(#) for the purpose of running distribution function.
As I have told you in the earlier note which mentioned that the above task was actually worked in the beginning time before we have upgrade our Netweaver service pack. Unfortunately, it not work anymore after the upgrading of Netweaver .
Do you have any idea regarding the scenario of before and after upgrading of Netweaver. Does it affect the previous settings?

Characteristic restricted DP interactive Planning

When I try on my interactive planning, view my table for a object i have a mistake.
The message is :
- Superior characteristic 0DIVISION of characteristic ZBGPCUSSL has to be restricted
- Error reading data - Planning book cannot be processed further

Are the infobjects ZBGPCUSSL and 0DIVISION compounded? In that case you need to add an additional navigation attribute ZBGPCUSSL_NAV (name it any way you like) to the infoobject ZBGPCUSSL. Then you need to activate it in your planning area. And you will also need to populate the navigation attribute during master data loading of infoobject ZBGPCUSSL.
Then you can use the new navigation attribute to do the selection.

InfoSET - Characteristic restriction by navigational attribute.

Created an infoset on 3 ODS's
Checked the navigational attributes i wante in ODS. (eg 0country as attribute from ZVENDOR)
When building the query it is not possible to have the field as a navigational attribute,only as attibute.
When I want to use it as navigational attribute I have to add it to the ODS.
Only then it is available as Navigational attribute in the query.
When I Add ZVENDOR in characteristics restrictions and create a variable with replacement path "Attribute value" I get the message Replace variable with INFOOBJECT.
"Value 'I' is invalid for property 'Replace Variable With' of element 'ZVENDOR_ATTR'"

How do I resolve this variable error ?

navigational attributes are not visible in infoset, you need to include those nav-attrubetes physically in to your ods-data part to be able to navigate/filter.

Characteristic restrictions

Hello Experts,
I want to restrict a characterstic (0CALDAY) for a specific period (one month) - I am using planning filter for this (with variables). This duration restricts the actuals data - important from performance point of view . However, in planning function using FOX formula, I need to change 0CALDAY (add 30 days) for forecast period. But this results in filter selections not being used to restrict reference data and also the results can not be saved in the planning cube as the forecast period is outside the filter duration selected for 0CALDAY.
Any tips/hints to make it work? Thanks.

Hi,
You need to change your Filter Restrictions to accommodate both Actual & Forecast Data.
To Restrict in FOX, You need to Identify Actual & Forecast Record.
Put an If Condition and then you can restrict the corresponding Values for actual & forecast.

Can someone clear my confusion regarding 'filter' in the planning modeler and 'char restriction' in the planning query?
1) do they do the same thing for planning query/ data?
2) If not, can someone give me a business example?

I am not sure that I understand your explanation. Correct me if I am wrong.
1)If I restrict 0plant-5000 in the planning query, I either setup 'filter' in the planning modeler or in the 'CHAR restriction'. If so, which way is better? Why?
2) what is re-usable filter?
3) in the BEx filter, there are two options- CHAR restriction and default. I checked online info and it said that you can change 'filter value' in the run time if u restrict 0plant 5000 in the planning query. However, I found that it seems it is not true, I can change filter value in the runtime if I restrict 0plant-5000 in the 'CHAR restriction'. Did I miss something?

Char restriction in Bex Query Designer

Hi Gurus,
Can anyone explain what is the use of the Characteristic Restriction Area in in the BEx Query designer
If i set 0CALYEAR =2008 in the Char Restriction and in the column definition i set the one of the column to display data from year 2009. Will it work ?

There are two type of characterstic restrcitions in the query. Global and local.
If you are createing a restrcited key figure or selection and restricting calday then it will be restricted to that particular key figure (and show 2008 data) and in the columns it will show you other years data (i.e. 2009 data).
But if you are using a global fiter in the filter tab of query designer, then it will be applicable to the whole query.

Restriction on a key figure

Hi experts,
I need to write a BEx query which has a restriction on a key figure. For example it should display only those records and their details for which the invoice amount is 0. Where invoice amount is a key figure.
I tried adding a condition but it just hides the all the rows and still dispays the total results from the multi. Is there any other way where I could restrict my key figure in the same way as we restrict characteristics (Characteristic restrictions)??

How to restrict material output in the report published in the portal

Hi all,
I am new to BI 7. I have a series of materials that start with the material IDs TR52, RL25, XY56 and son on. Now my user wants to view only the materials that are starting with the ID TR52 when he runs the report from the portal. In the material box when I type in TR I am getting the list of all the materials, the same is happening even when I try TR*. What should I do so that I can restrict the report output only to a particular material ID that my user types in?

Subject: Cannot see the characteristic/variable in a query

I am in a query designer. I am looking at query 0TCT_MC21_Q404. It sees under Characteristic Restriction,
A characteristic 0CALWEEK which is restricted by the variable 0CWEEK-26-0CWEEK which is last 26 weeks.
My problem is I do not see this any where under Dimensions->Time->0CALWEEK->Chacateristic Value Variables why? Where can I find this variable and drag and drop to set another query.

I still do not see them. As I said it is SAP exit variable.
What is intestesrting, it is for a characteristic 0CALWEEk [Week}
but if you look under Dimensions, there is no chacateristic like that, instead it 0CALWEEK [Calendar Year/Week|. Why two descriptions are different even though technical namse is the same.

Characteristic issue in Query

Hi:
I have a question regarding a query. I have a multicube created from the Sales Overview cube and a cube which holds plan data.
I have a a charactrisitcs 0CUST_SALES__0CUST_GROUP (master data) in Identification checked for the both cubes.
When I run a query created on this cube for sales wty, The value shows up correctly. But when I drill down by 0CUST_SALES__0CUST_GROUP, the characteristic value is Not assigned.
I checked 0CUST_SALES and I have the value for the field 0CUST_SALES__0CUST_GROUP. Why system shows #- not assigned when I drill down by this particular characteristic?

Do you have any other characteristic in the query rows , or any other characteristic restricted in the query that is from only one basic Cube?
Also check by running reports if you have data in Basic cubes by 0CUST_SALES__0CUST_GROUP .

Hi Experts,
I have scenario where I dont want to include the values in the output of report.
If you observe above there are some un assigned cost elements and its the report output. I dont want these to be in the report.

Restricting values of charcteristics in the Variable

I have a charcteristic with some values .
I have created a varaible which shows all these values in the selection screen drop down.
I only want 3-4 values from the given set of values of charcteristics in the selection screen

hi dheeraj u can try this :
in characteristic restriction bring ur characteristics say CHARXX
now restrict it with ur variable say varxxyy
in default values drag ur characteristics charxx
now restrict ur charxx again with 3-4 default values as u wish to bring in....
this way upon ur query exxecution it shall display the variable as well as 3-4 values.....
try this work around
or else when u create ur variablexxyy
in its definition move to tab DEFAULT VALUES
in that define ur 3-4 values one by one
this way upon query execution the variable will display ur default values automatically.....
try this workaround..
