Characters don't appear as they should in SMSes

Hi,
This is specific to just these characters that I use quite frequently in my SMSes, the square brackets - [ ]
When I type them in, they appear as they should on +my phone+, but peculiarly, they appear as "<?" and "?>" instead on the receipient's phone.
Here are my settings on the iPhone:
- iPhone 3G
- Language: English
- Keyboard: English
Has anyone faced the same problems? Do let me know. Better yet, has anyone faced and then fixed the problem?

Oh, I missed out adding that when I receive square brackets on my phone, they appear as they should - and it also is part of the recipient's phone set, because it worked fine before, on my other phones, and the square brackets appear as they should when it is in SMSes from them.

I may have solved my own issue. I clicked on one of my clips (or you can click on all your clips for that matter) in the event browser, opened the inspector tab and clicked on the 'Info' tab, then the 'settings' drop down at the bottom of the inspector window. I then clicked on 'apply custom name' and then clicked 'original name from camera'.
So far all my thumbnails are visible and I've been working for 1hr since my last post with no thumbnails going BLUE on me. They are all still visible. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you.

Reports sum don't sum as they should

I created a report where it displays, in order: COST CENTER, PROJECT, EMPLOYEE, JAN, FEB... DEC
Then I check on sum for JAN, FEB.... DEC under columns attributes.
Then I have a break for the first and second columns (COST CENTER, PROJECT), so it will give me a sum for project total, and a sum for cost center total.
The thing is that there is a case that the project is the same, but in different cost center, what the report is doing is that since the project is the same, even though the cost center is different, it's returning a sum for project total combining 2 different cost centers. This should not happen since cost center is highest in the hierarchy so even 2 different cost centers with the same projects, it should return a sum of the projects separtely, since although the same project, they belong to 2 different cost centers.
How can I fix this?

I have no idea if this is "good" SQL or not, I played with it until it worked. :-)
Going through the SQL a line at a time:
select decode(grouping_id(cost_center)+grouping_id(project)+grouping_id(amount),3, 'Report Total:',2,'Cost Center '||cost_center||' Subtotal:',1,'Project '||project||' Subtotal:',0,null) tag,grouping_id(item) is set to 1 when that item level is being totaled, 0 otherwise. So this is basically a case statement. Column 1 is the 'Tag' field, which is just a label and not in the database.
If the sum of the grouping_id values is 3, then select the text 'Report Total:' for column 1
Else if the sum is 2, select 'Cost Center ' concatenated with the value of the current cost center, concatenated with 'Subtotal:' in for column 1
Else if the sum is 1, you're subtotalling the project, so select 'Project' concatenated with the project value and 'Subtotal:' for the 'Tag' column.
Otherwise, display null.
This brings up a feature I'd like to see in ApEx: It would be nice to be able to display not only the column headers in the break row, but also the value/name of the item currently being totaled. Another nice feature would be if I could get around having to use this 'Tag' field and, instead, have column 1 span several TD cells so that I could get the label over next to the subtotal values instead of in column 1.
On to line/column 2. Similar to before, this is a case statement, determining what goes in the cost_center field:
decode(grouping_id(cost_center)+grouping_id(project)+grouping_id(amount),0,cost_center,null) cost_center, If the sum of all three grouping ids is 0 (not rolling up or subtotalling), show cost_center, otherwise show null.
The next line, for project, works the same way.

The next field, Amount, is a little tricky:
decode(sum(amount),amount,amount,sum(amount)) amount, Again, take it as a case statement (or if-then-elseif)...
if the sum(amount) is the same as amount (displaying regular row), show the amount, otherwise, show the sum(amount).
Why do this? Because I don't want two columns for amount and sum(amount). I want the sum to display in the Amount field on a report row. I suppose I could have summed up the grouping_id values as before, eh?
In the report attributes, I suppress the display of the last field, sum(amount).
sum(amount) The final bit defines the grouping sets:
from breakreport group by grouping sets((cost_center, project, amount),(cost_center, project), (cost_center),());This says: Aggregate on amount, then project, then cost center, then give an overall total.

Arabic characters don't appear correctly, why?

i have a problem i think many others have. The problem is that i'm trying to render arabic text in JDeveloper9i and Win2000 proffisional, but the arabic characters are rendered as question marks, although i have set the encoding option of the compiler to many encodings that support arabic and select several fonts that support arabic also, and even i have set the system locale to Saudi Arabia locale but the problem still exists. the very strange action i noticed that i can write arabic in the editor and the property inspector but after saving the file (.java or .xml or any) and then closing and reopening the file, the arabic characters are displayed as question marks, may be the editor encoding and the OS encoding are defferent? so i set the encoding option the "default", but the problem still exists. I don't know exactly, but if any one has an answer or a solution, he is welcome.

You have a byte order mark (BOM: ï»¿) in the file to specify the encoding, but the server may be configured to send the file as western iso-8859-1

Firefox ignores the encoding in a meta tag and BOM directions if the server sends an encoding via the response headers. <br />
It is usually best to make sure that the editor doesn't add such a BOM at the start of the file.
If necessary then you or visitors can change the currently used encoding to Unicode.

I'm doing a vector, however the pen and Elipse tools don't work as they should.

As I said, I'm working on a vector, but now whenever I use the pen or elipse tool, the shape doesn't fill in, even at 100% opacity. Changing to other tools I get a message that always ends with "Because the pixels in a group cannot be edited without merging the group."
I'm left scratching my head, I only started using photoshop a few days ago and would prefer not to merge the groups together.
I'm using CS2 if that helps at all.
Any help would be appreciated.

Shared Reminders don't work like they should

I have set up shared reminders in iOS and iCloud, but they don't seem to work at all like I would have hoped.
Basically, I'm looking for a way for my wife to push reminders to my shared list so that I (not her) am reminded with an alert, and vice versa.
Currently, the way it works is, she can add a reminder to my shared list, but it will only remind her and *not* me.
So it seems like while it was a nice thought, it was more of an afterthought, and wasn't really thought through well -- very un-Apple like.
Or am I missing something?

to point 1) I made a strange discovery - the problem only shows up, when I use the Spotlight-Button in the menu bar... if I'm opening a search window with "cmd +f" it works perfectly... no Safari-History in there...!

I have messed up the settings on my Mighty Mouse and don't know where they should be. I cannot open a document by double-clicking anymore. I don't know what setting adjusts that.

I think you need to un-pair your mouse. Leave it a few minutes than re-pair it as if you were starting from scratch and using the following details. Item 1 will probably meet your needs.

Flash file zooms but buttons don't stay where they should

I've attached the example files I'm working with. I have a zooming component that zooms in my flash file by loading it with an .xml file, but the buttons don't stay over the buttons once it gets loaded into the component. The buttons move off into space.
Do you see what the issue is?

I think what is happening is that the whole file is scaling which is somehow messing up the positioning of the buttons.
Here's what I've done so far:
- create a movie clip of .swf file toolip and center it.
- the zoom_test.swf loads in the 2008_19.swf file to be zoomed and panned via the data.xml file
Since I created a movieclip of the .swf file tooltip, when you open up 2008_19.swf, the tooltip does not rollover the button anymore,
it is a little further away from the button.
I'm not sure what you mean by scaling the parent, because with this functionality, the whole file, 2008_19 is being scaled.

Make FIREFOX stop taking over my documents! I'm a writer, and they don't open as they should after Firefox takes them over!

When I check files, some of my documents--those which have been emailed--are changed from Word to Firefox. The altered documents (some entire novels waiting for acceptance from my publisher!!!!) are no longer Word documents. BESIDES the aggravation of having to handle these documents differently, have any changes been made to the structure or the contained words?

And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)

Chinese song titles don't appear when copied from iTunes Mac to XP

I've tried googling the answer to this but can't seem to find the answer so wondered if anyone can help me. Please?
I use a G4 MacMini at home running 10.4.11 and iTunes 9x and keep all my music on an external hard drive. I want to play my music using ITunes 10x on my PC at work running XP SP3. I need to reformat my iPod on the PC anyway cos at the moment it won't as it was originally formatted on my Mac.
I've copied my iTunes Library and my music files to an external hard drive and am using MacDrive so that I can copy them on to my PC, however I've noticed that the titles of the 20 or so Chinese albums I have don't appear. They appear as underscores not squares. The artists names appear ok but not the song titles.
I've installed the East Asian language pack in the Control Panel on the PC. On the Advanced tab, the Language for non-Unicode programs is set to English (UK) and the Code page conversion tables is set to 10002 (Mac - Traditional chinese Big5).
Is there anything else I should have done?
The Chinese song titles would have been imported automatically when I ripped them off CDs on the Mac.
Any help would be much appreciated.

- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

Built-In Domain Level Groups dont have permissions on domain they should on 2012

First this is a brand new domain environment with everything running server 2012 datacenter edition.
Second I've never seen anything like the following occur in a domain environment. What I had is what appears to be a bad 2012 AD structure however so far all AD tests come back good. The problem is the built-in domain level groups do NOT offer any level
of access that they should. For example if I add a user in the administrators group, they don't have any permissions that group is supposed to have. THe same with every other builtin, backup operators, server operators, account operators and on and on. The
only way a user gets that level of access is if I add them into the domain admins group. As you can imagine this is crazy and not a solution for my help desk crew. (having them all be domain admins that is) So while I could very well use delegation, I need
to find out why my builtin groups don't function as they should. Anyone have any ideas on what to check or where to look? I'm at the point of opening a case with Microsoft on this.

Because those builtin groups AREN'T domain level groups in the way you're thinking. The Administrators group on the server gives users administrator permissions on the server, but that doesn't mean permissions on the entire domain.
If you look in the user list in ADUC you'll see that while Domain Admins are a Global security group, Administrators is only a local group, eg local to the server (or more accurately since they no longer have local details, to domain controllers), so doesn't
grant permissions to anything outside of the domain controller. On all non DC's the machines have their own local administrators group which is independent of the domain one, and can have different memberships.
So if you only need a user to have permissions to the DC then administrators is fine, but if you need them to have access to the entire network, eg other servers and workstations, then they need to be members of domain admins. If you only want them
to have limited permissions then you need to grant those permissions either via a global/universal group, or by adding them to the relevant local group on each machine they need access to.

OEM Locations don't appear for Process Modules

We are using the OEM/OMS agent for our process module deployment locations. However, when we create a process module, none of our process flow locations are available for selection. I dummyed one up using workflow as the location type and it shows up as an available location for our modules. Why don't the OEM typed locations show up in the location selection drop down for process flow modules?

I recently experienced the same problem, but it looks like it's a Windows problem.
What happens to me from time to time is that the files are present, but Windows Explorer does not refresh the Downloads folder view, so any new file seems to be missing, and any downloading file is still shown with the previous download size.
When I change folder view, say for Downloads to Desktop and back to Downloads, or when I close and reopen Windows Explorer, the files appear as they should.
Not sure what causes this bug, but it seems that punctual intensive tasks like unzipping or file copy operations may put Windows Explorer in this stage.

Calendar Reminders for events that don't appear in Calendar

We have a user who created a number of calendar appointments for a shared Calendar. He receives reminders for these, but the appointments don't appear in the shared calender (or his calendar) and no other members of his team who have access to the
calendar receive the reminders. When the reminder pops up, he can view the appointment and it appears normal - it just doesn't show in the calendar.
The appointments are very important and we need to somehow restore the corresponding calendar entries so that they're viewable to him and his team, and reminders are recieved by everyone.
I'm aware of the /cleanreminders switch but can't find anything to allay my fears that these reminders won't be seen as "rogue" and deleted leaving us with no record of the reminders.
I've used the scanpst tool against the ost files he uses, although I've been advised the scan may need to be run several times so waiting to schedule this in with the user.
Worst case scenario is that the reminders are accidently deleted and there is no record of these at all, at least at the moment, one person receives these so they're not running completely blind.
Anyone else had this or have any ideas?

Outlook.exe /cleanreminders switch will clear and regenerate reminders.
Does this problem occurred for just one user?
I suggest the following several methods to check this issue.
Open outlook with command: outlook.exe /cleanviews, this command will restore default views. All custom views you created are lost.
Switch outlook to online mode.
Check in OWA.

Thanks for your replies. The reservation I have around the /cleanreminders switch is that effectively, the notifications are fine (they appear when they should) - but it's the underlying appointment which isn't showing (unless the reminder pops up
and you open the item). Will the reminders be regenerated if the actual appointment doesn't appear? Or will they disappear too?
Only one user gets these notifications, he created the appointments in the shared calendar. The notificiations and the appointments don't show in OWA - I'd expect the same with Outlook in online mode.
The worst thing to happen is lose all trace of these appointments.

Two-thirds of .pdfs don't appear in iBooks after iPad sync

I'm using a 2-month old iPad 3 hooked up to a MacBookPro.
When I sync, using the Lightning-to-USB cable, I can see 34 .pdf files in my iPad, as its displayed in iTunes on the MBP screen.
Yet, on the iPad, only 10 .pdf files appear on the bookshelves.
As it happens, these are the 10 most recent purchases/downloads. (None via the iTunes Store, btw - books bought at the Store appear as they should.)
I have powered down, done a hard reboot, re-installed iBooks in the iPad, checked that the appropriate checkboxes have been selected under the PDFs tab in iTunes, and toggled between Collections on the iPad. All updates are up-to-date.
I also have iCloud on, but the .pdfs are backed up to the MBP, not to iCloud.
This is a recent problem - previously everything was as it should be.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be gratefully received.

The best and simplest workaround for this is to upload the epub/pdf to dropbox on your mac, then open them in dropbox on your ipad/iphone.
I have the first ipad running iOS 5, and this method worked.
