Characters stuck with cambria font in Pagemaker 7

I have stuck some characters with cambria font in PageMaker 7, typing in ms-word its ok, now when I copy and paste in PageMaker 7, i get stick some letters, then i try typing directly in PageMaker, and its the same, anyone know can i solve this ?

Do not copy and paste from Word.

6.8 - Importing Text from Word (*.doc)
Importing text from Word is not as straightforward as it seems, and often does not work out as expected. Read on for a few tips on how to minimise anger and maximise productivity.
It is well known that copy/pasting Word docs directly into PM will cause problems, particularly when style names clash.
You can only 'import' the text from a Word document - no graphics, no backgrounds.
To get the graphics from the Word document into PM:
If you have a graphic in a Word document you want to put into your PM doc, and depending on whether it is a vector (e.g. WMF) or raster (e.g. JPG) export it from Corel Draw as an EPS or TIFF respectively.
This method will retain all the pixel data that was in the original graphic, where pasting into Photoshop/Illustrator or PM itself will not.
To get the text from the Word document:
1. Save it as a TXT file, then place it into PM. Unlink the TXT file from the PM doc via the Links Manager.
2. Save the text from Word as rich text format (.RTF) then use File>Place to get it into PM. Make sure you immediately delete the link to the Word doc in the Links Manager, otherwise problems next time you open the PM file as it will look for that RTF file - bad news if you have made changes to the text in PM.italicising,
Note: Saving in RTF or TXT formats strips out the Word styles. The former however retains all bolding and italicising, the latter does not.
3. Copy and paste the text into a brand new PM doc, highlight all the text and on the Styles palette, click on the [No Style] option. Then recopy the text and paste it into your existing PM doc and apply PMs styles. (Don't save the PM doc where you applied the [No Styles]). Remember, it is far better to apply styles using PM than to bring in Word styles.
4. When you are in the "Place" dialogue box, try checking "read tags." This will prevent the Word document from importing its own styles into your document.

I have tried downloading several fonts, including those from professional societies, but the only way to get Hebrew in my document is to cut and paste. Does anyone know how to fix this? I use an older MacBook running OS 10.9.1. I used to do my Hebrew work in Word, but it is no longer supported by Mac OS.

Just clarifying:
Pages '09 has bad support for Hebrew, Arabic etc but will accept pasted text.
Pages 5 has much better support but with bugs.
If you have columns they are in the wrong order ie Text starts in the left column and ends in the right column.
If you type English into Hebrew text it tends to fall in the wrong position eg instead of to the left of Hebrew punctuation it goes to the right.
As Tom recommends the only real solution on the Mac is Mellel.

Stuck with a bad font in Safari

Safari used to have an option in an appearance setting to select a default font for webpages, and back in high school, I made it something dumb and illegible. It's still set to that same font through transferring my data from one computer to the next, but now the option to change it back is gone. I can't install an older version of Safari to change it, am I stuck with it? My MacBook Pro is completely up to date with all upgrades.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Textfield which accepts multilingual characters with embedded fonts

Hi all,
I have a textfield where I can paste text from different languages with device fonts. Now, I want to input multi-ligual text with embedded fonts.
I have embedded set of fonts, where I can input only english alphabets but not other languages.
Is there a way to input any language characters with embedded fonts?

I have embedded font as follows,

With this, I was able to apply this font for english.
I have tried to paste " मैं कौन हूँ? " on a textfield. But I have not shown मैं कौन हूँ? text.
And setting text programmatically did not work at all as
textField.text = "मैं कौन हूँ?";
If I do this with device fonts, every thing work fine but not with embedded fonts.

How do you define which character set gets embedded with a font embedded in the library (i.e. Korean)?

I have project that uses a shared fonts. The fonts are all
contained in a single swf ("fonts.swf"), are embedded in that swf's
library and are set to export for actionscript and runtime sharing.
The text in the project is dynamic and is loaded in from
external XML files. The text is formatted via styles contained in a
CSS object.
This project needs to be localized into 20 or so different
languages.
Everything works great with one exception: I can’t
figure out how to set which character set gets exported for runtime
sharing. i.e. I want to create a fonts.swf that contains Korean
characters, change the XML based text to Korean and have the text
display correctly.
I’ve tried changing the language of my OS (WinXP) and
re-exporting but that doesn’t work correctly. I’ve also
tried adding substitute font keys to the registry (at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes) as outlined here:

but the fonts I added did not show up in Flash's font menue.
I’ve also tried the method outlined here:

I know that it is easy to specify the language you want to
use when setting the embed font properties for a specific text
field but my project has hundreds of text fields and I'm setting
the font globally by referencing the font symbols in a single swf.
I have looked at the info you've pointed out but wasn't
helped by it. What I'd like to be able to do is to tell Flash to
embed a language specific character-set for the font symbols in the
library. It currently is only embedding Latin characters even
though I know the fonts specified contains characters for other
languages.
For example. I have a font symbol in the libary named
"Font1". When I look at its properties I can see it is spcified as
Tahoma. I know the Tahoma font on my system contains the characters
for Korean but when I compile the swf it only contains Latin
characters (gylphs) - this corresponds to the language of my OS (US
English). I want to know how to tell Flash to embedd the Korean
language charaters rather than or as well as the Latin characters
for any given FONT SYMBOL. If I could do that, then, when I enter
Korean text into my XML files the correct characters will be
available to Flash. As it is now, the characters are not available
and thus the text doesn' t display.

How to find a word written with two fonts...?

I have a 200+ pages document that contains some words with the first letter in Times regular and the rest in Times italic. Is there any way to find those words in the document?

Annabelle, a non scripting solution is the following.
You cannot search for words with multiple fonts. However, since you can search for words in one font, you can exclude 'good' ones.
I will be assuming you have a regular document, with just black text ...
In Search & Replace, GREP, search for "\b\w+\b" with a font style of "Regular" and replace with formatting: text color red. Be sure not to accidentally put anything in the replace text field -- it should be entirely empty. Now all entirely Regular words are red.
Repeat with the font style "Italic". Now all words that are entirely Regular or Italic are in red.
Search for "\b\w+\b" with a text color of Black. This will find all words that are neither entirely in Italic nor entirely in Regular.
In case you never used it before, the GREP expression means "a word boundary -- one or more word characters -- a word boundary". Essentially, it does a 'Find entire word' for any length of words.
Note that if you have words in, say, bold, bold italic, or 46 Light Italic, you will have to mark these as well with the check colour, or else you'll also find them 'bad'.
You might want to create a new swatch for marking, so you can delete it afterwards, replacing with Black again.
... Are you familiar with how to use scripts? It might be a bit easier if I wrote a tiny script, although my method will find all rogue formatted text.

Printing problem when PDF is sent to the printer with certain fonts - missing text

I'm running into a printing problem when PDFs containing certain characters of the Calibri font are used. The text in large sections of the PDF is missing on the paper version, but the text is there on the screen. It's also happened when the PDFs we created were e-mailed out to a client and printed on their printer. The problem is not present when printing directly from the programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, etc.). I've been trying to get tech support from Adobe on this, but every time I call they apologize and say they will call back in 4-6 hours with an answer. Same result each time, no call back. If anyone from Adobe is listening, it's case number 184891587. The font appears as an embedded subset when I look at the document properties. Sometimes deleting one or two Characters allows for larger text blocks to be printed - i.e. removing a long dash in bold from the heading of a paragraph makes the paragraph reappear when printed to paper from PDF. In all cases the PDF appears correct on the screen. Printing as an image allows the text to appear, but the image quality isn't acceptable for small text, even at the 600 dpi setting on the printer. If the PDF is sent out by e-mail, we do not have control over the end-user's printer setup anyway, so we need this to work in all cases.
The setup/process I'm using is as follows:
Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-Bit
Microsoft Office 2013 - problem is present when printing documents from Word, Excel or Visio. Even other variations on documents.
I've tried Acrobat versions 11.0.0 to 11.0.5 as well as Acrobat Pro 11.0.0 and 11.0.1. Same Result
Printing to Adobe PDF as the printer, from the third party application
Printing to a Xerox printer from PDF using Acrobat - Text missing
Client prints to Konica printer - Text missing
I print to the wide-format Ricoh (which also does 11x17) and the text is present.
Is there something I'm missing? Is the entire font not getting embedded into the PDF file? I noticed that rolling back to a much older version of the Calibri font (1.02 compared to 5.72) makes the problem mostly go away, but it's not completely gone. Is it possible the font is too large to be completely embedded? Where can I go from here?

Success! At least for now. It looks like my problem was fixed with Adobe's most recent update, 11.0.06. From the release notes:

I don't know if that's definately what solved the problem, but it sure sounds similar and this is the update that made the printing problem go away. We can't get the PDFs to fail at this point with our printers, even with Calibri 5.72. I'll come back to thread if we have printing problems at the end-user locations.

TLF in Flash CS4 showing ??? with Arabic fonts

I got TLF to function on my work computer (XP-32) with no trouble.
However, at home (XP-64), when I type in the TLF box in CS4, I only get ????? showing.If I copy and paste Arabic from Notepad into the text box, the arabic text shows up with no problem. I've tried using Adobe Arabic, Transparent Arabic, and Standard Arabic font with the same results.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but when I first installed the TLF component, it set it up in my Flash CS3 extension manager. After deleting it from there, I installed it again to the CS4 extension manager.
Has anyone else had this situation? I can't figure out why my work computer and home computer are behaving differently.

I have been learning how to deal with arabic fonts now in flash10 and from what i have read up so far adobe has stopped updating the TLF component and it is been said it will only reappear with flash11 again. So if there is a bug with 64 bit os , then it is stuck like that for now. Another point to mention while using the forums and from personal testing is that the adobe arabic font will not handle diacritics correctly. You should try use Arial version 4 (the arial that ships with vista , the arial that shipped with xp is also faulty).

Whenever you have a question, it helps to post:
(1) The version of Oracle (and any other relevant software) you're using
(2) A little sample data (just enough to show what the problem is) from all the relevant tables
(3) The results you want from that data
(4) Your best attempt so far (formatted)
Executable SQL statements (like "CREATE TABLE AS ..." or "INSERT ..." statements) are best for (2).
If you can present your problem using commonly available tables (for example, tables in scott schema, or views in the data dictionary), then you can omit (2).
Formatted tabular output is okay for (3).
This does what you requested in Oracle 10 (and up):

Prob with chinese font bold, italic... in PDF report

My symptoms (overview) : to create my RDF report, I'm using a font, simsun.ttf, wich allow me to view chineses and french characters. Everything is ok, except in PDF format, all the items remains in "normal" style.
My configuration : Windows NT4 SP6a
Report Builder 9.0.4.2
Acrobat Reader 7.0
Oracle Database 9.2.0.6
In Detail : in report builder, every items (text fields, labels,...) are directly created with SimSun font. Some items are bold, some italic, ...
If i generate the report in RTF format, my items bold, italic, ... are ok in Microsoft Word (SimSun Bold, ...). However, if i generate the report in PDF format, everything is in "normal" style.
I changed the file UIFONT.ALI like this :

Obviously, with an Arial font, we can map the different files Arialb.ttf, Arialbi.ttf, ... according to the desired font style we want, but with SimSun font, there is only one file : SimSun.ttf.
Obviously, i have no choice for the font... I have to use SimSun.
Anyway, if i take a look at my PDF, the used fonts (in file>property>fonts>) i can see several personnalized fonts, each one corresponding to a SimSun style (one for SimSun, Bold, an other for SimSun, BoldItalic, ...) but everything is the same style on screen.
Does somebody have an idea??

chech that if tyep is TYPE3 and font is CUSTOM then it is using subsetting ,and if not then report is using pdfs default font and it is not using required font

Director MX - problem with polish font

Hi everybody!
I have some applications made with Director MX 2004, and I
have to convert the writings to polish language. I have the
translations in a word .doc file, and I found out that when I paste
the text into Director, the accented and special polish letters
don't display in Director correctly. It shows the empty square or
strange wrong characters, as it could not map the font correctly. I
tried to embed the font, but it still does not work. At first I
thought I messed up with the font, as the font was manually edited
to add the special letters (but the font does work in every other
application... photoshop, flash, word et cetera).
But the problem remains even if I use/embed a "standard"
window font like Times New Roman, Arial and so on. It seems that
Director is refusing to use correctly the font, even if I embed it
entirely as full set.
Now, is there a solution to this? Is it "normal"? Or have I
to resign myself and convert all the text to images...which means
LOT of pain :(

This includes both a new unicode rtf member, and a method to
convert unicode
text to ansi text that director can display.
The text member can display any language and also supports
embedding images.
The conversion will not work if the text includes multi-byte
characters -
you'll be prompted if such characters exist.
So, try if it works for your docs, and then we'll see what we
can do so that

What's going on with my fonts?

Does anyone know what is going on with my fonts?!?! When italicised text is shown in Safari (seemingly coded with [em] tags), it gives the following:

From all the other posts on the forum about deleting Time Phonetic, it doesnt exsist on my mac. So wondering if i am gettng same problem with a different font.
Your problem is different and more difficult, since your Latin is not being replaced by junk characters. I think sometimes it is caused by bad font caches and sometimes by duplicated Latin system fonts. For one possible fix you can check out this:

I work on an iMac and use the InDesign CS2 Middle East version. I have to do a brochure in the Kurdish language. The fonts are very similar to Arabic, reading from right to left..
The person who organized the translation sent me some fonts, but they are TT for PC. When I try them, all I see is the default font from Apple which is Arabic. The Kurds do have some characters that the Arabs don't have.
I found some Kurdish free fonts on the Internet. Some do work, means I can see the real font, but the special characters, which are in the set, don't show. I still get an Arab character instead of the Kurdish. I wondered if there is something to be done in the preferences or the style sheets but I could not find anything. I do have the right fonts I believe, but cannot make them work right. I do have Fontographer, so I can convert them, but that did not help either.
Does anyone know something about this??

Did you install any InDesign CC 2014 MENA version, as you can install it additionally with extra cost?

Does the TJ command work with Type3 fonts?

I'm not sure that the text showing TJ works with Type3 fonts.
Attached is a complete PDF file that illustractes the problem. See
how the A characters position are affected by the TJ command when
using the Type1 fonts but not the Type3. Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?

CacheAsBitmap interfering with device font clear type rendering.

I want to use device fonts in my application so the text appears clear on LCD displays and uses the system's clearType font rasterizing system. It is characterized by slightly colored edges of text, as opposed to Flash's purely grayscale text rasterizer. clearType is also what web browsers use, so it allows the text in Flash to exactly match that of the web browser. Otherwise, Flash's text looks blurry when it uses it's own system with embedded fonts such as "anti-alias for readability", which is purely grayscale.
I've noticed that when I'm using a scrollRect with cacheAsBitmp, my text is no longer clear and no longer uses the clearType system, despite having embedFonts set to off. If I turn off cacheAsBitmap, then the text renders as expected.
Is this alteration in font rendering technique by design? I don't understand why cacheAsBitmp doesn't just render normally and cache the results. The cached image will be aligned to whole pixels, and frankly, if it wasn't going to be and the colored edges wouldn't look right, then I wouldn't use clearType rendering, but it should be my decision. cacheAsBitmap seems to exhibit this side effect of altering the font rendering technique, but I wasn't expecting it to have such an effect.

I think you'll find cacheAsBitmap matches the antialias settings built into Flash. ClearType would require OS-level interaction to snap a bitmap capture of the text. Once you tick off that checkbox I'm "fairly sure" flash takes the outlines into its own hands, renders the text and captures the bitmap from its own internal drawing system.
As you know, a bitmap is nothing like a vector. When you enable cAB you surrender the crisp vectors to the speed of a low DPI pixel representation to remove the expensive frame to frame calculations. There has to be some tradeoff and I'm not sure the current monochromatic replacement is any less clear than the interpolated, smoothed ClearType. If anything the monochromatic nature of the built in system adds weight to the characters whereas the summer bevel appearance of ClearType might smooth characters so thin they're hard to read.
