Charge An iPod Touch On A Windows 98se

I have a 98se desktop computer with USB 1, I know the requirements are USB 2, BUT, I read here that people were having problems with syncing with USB 1 and worked perfectly with USB 2.
So the above tells me that it WILL work with USB 1 but it transfers at a much slower rate.
So I have USB 1 with a 4 port hub powered to supply the USB 2 voltage.
Is their a way to get my iPod Touch to charge with this setup? I have tried to plug the powered hub into the computer and the iPod into the hub, the computer finds an "iPod" but no drivers or anything (Duh), I just want to know if the computer can just give up some power to charge.

Just to clear something up, the USB ports, regardless of the speed, should always be putting out power correct?
No not always. On Windows machines, at least in XP and probably Vista, you can set the USB ports to not power up when they are not actively in use. In fact I think, again at least with XP, that is the default setup and you need to go in and reconfigure them to always be powered on.
I am on my Mac right now, so from memory, I think you go to Control Panels, System, Device Manager, then pick the USB Hubs (often there is more than one) and in those there is a setting somewhere to check a box to power down when not being used. You can uncheck that to leave power on the USB port at all times.

Try the following to rule out a software problem.:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • How do I transfer a voice memo from my Ipod touch to my windows 8 laptop please?

How do I transfer a voice memo from my Ipod touch to my windows 8 PC please?

    Hi its pretty simple. So
*First download the latest iTunes version and install it on the PC.
*Plug in your Apple Device to your PC
*The iTunes window will automatically pop up when you have connected your device, if it doesnt happen , open iTunes manually.
*Choose Your device and there it would show you the "Summary","Apps", "Music","Movies" etc etc..
*Go to Music and click on the option "Sync Music"
*When you tick that option , the other options would be enabled. They are the "Entire Library", "Selected Playlists...", "include music videos", "include voice memos".
    *Tick only "Include voice memos"
*Now it should start syncing and show you a separate folder saying Voice Memos on the Left side where all your other folders are there on itunes page.
*You can access those audio files by going to the C:_Users*_My Music_iTunes_iTunes media_Voice Memos!!
NOTE: IF THOSE VOICE MEMOS DONT GET TRANSFERRED TO YOUR PC , THEN IN YOUR DEVICE , NAME ALL YOUR VOICE MEMOS AND THEN TRY THE WHOLE PROCESS AGAIN.
NO NEED TO BE DOWNLOADING THE ITUNES AGAIN AND AGAIN.
    Hope this helps You

  • Why did my iD9 ihome stop charging my ipod touch?

I got the iD9 ihome for Christmas and at first, it played and charged my ipod touch perfectly. Now, however, it has stopped charging and only plays music through the speakers. I'm very frustrated, because one of the reasons I chose this ihome was because it would both play and charge my ipod at the same time. I use my ipod religiously and am constantly draining the battery and hate having to plug it into the computer. Any ideas what could be wrong/where I could take it to get looked at without paying a fortune?

  • I went on a trip and charged my iPod Touch using my MacBook. I had turned off "automatic synch". Now my iPod won't snych. What happened?

I went on a trip and charged my iPod Touch using my MacBook. To do this I switched off "automatically synch" etc. Now I want to synch my iPod Touch but my MacBook keeps wanting to charge it. I can't see the iPod icon nor does plugging it into the USB port automatically start iTunes anymore. I recently upgraded to 10.6.3 from 10.5.8. Now what?

  • Can't charge new iPod Touch from iPod hi-fi

When I plugged my new Touch (late 2009, I think they call it) into the charging dock of my Apple hi-fi, I got a message that the battery could not charge from this device. It played songs just fine. I plugged in my first-generation Touch to confirm that the Apple Hi-Fi could charge it, and it could.
I have other, older, charging docks (including a Bose Sound Dock) at various locations in my house, but haven't tried them yet. Is the new Touch unable to charge from such docks, or is it the Apple Hi-Fi specifically that is somehow incompatible with the the new Touch?

Perhaps I can explain this a bit more.
Originally, iPods charged using the "firewire" connections which are part of the Dock Connector. I believe the voltage used was 12 volts. Later iPods were charged using the USB 5 volt connections, which are also part of the Dock Connector, but I think those iPods could also be charged by either the USB or the firewire connections.
Several manufacturers of chargers/charging stations/Docks for iPods did not add the USB 5 volt charge feature, probably because they were saving money and missed the incredibly obvious - that Apple would one day drop the firewire charge feature.
That day has come; the latest iPods cannot be charged by the firewire connections, so if your Dock uses the firewire but not the USB, then it will not charge an iPod that only uses USB, such as the Touch. I have an eighteen month old Bose Sound Dock and it will not charge my iPod Touch. (I don't know if Bose have rectified this oversight yet.) I also have two Klipsch RoomGroove units. When the iPod Touch first came out, the Klipsch would not charge it. However, very quickly, Klipsch RoomGrooves disappeared from the shelves (here in the UK anyway) and when they reappeared, they did charge the Touch. I saw this happening and waited until the newer version of the Klipsch was available.
Now you may think that Apple were in some way wrong to stop the firewire charging but, think about this. Originally, the iPod's electronics and battery both required 12 volts to work. As technology improved, both the batteries and the electronics could be made to work reliably with only 5 volts, which happens to be the voltage used by USB connections. So if Apple now have a device that can be charged by the USB on your computer, they don't need to include a charger in with the iPod. So the iPods that charged by either firewire or USB were a case of Apple ensuring that old style Docks would continue to work. But that was not going to last forever.
There is no doubt in my mind that designers should have seen the firewire issue coming!

  • Using Flip Video Power Adaptor to charge an iPod Touch

Is it possible to use a Flip Video Power Adaptor to charge my iPod Touch without damaging it?
The Flip Adaptor says: Output +5VDC 1A (5W)
    Thanks

With this sort of thing you have a choice. You can take your chances with the cheap option, or possibly pay more than is necessary, but have what is pretty much a sure thing.
If we were talking maybe a $100 or less MP3 player, I'd say go with the cheap option because the worst that happens is you have to buy a new MP3 player for around $100. Annoying, but generally doable.
With expensive electronics, I'd suggest the sure thing. If you go cheap, and it fries the logic board on the MBP, then you're looking at like $1200 minimum. Probably around $200+ for the iPod, and around $500 for the iPhone. If Apple's gear ends up frying the various devices, Apple would be pretty much obliged to replace them. You buy some third party stuff, they'll just say the fault must have been with the third party adapters, and that you're SOL unless you cough up the cash for a repair/replacement.
So, at the end of the day, is it worth risking around $2,000 worth of equipment just to save a few bucks on a travel adapter? Only you can answer that.

  • My daughter charged her ipod touch on my sisters computer. She managed to login to her iTunes account - now it seems my sisters computer is authorised to access playlists and Apps. How do I stop this?

My daughter charged her ipod touch on my sisters computer. My daughter also accessed iTunes - my fault she knew the password for the account. Now the account information says that 2  computers are authorised to access this account. How can I deauthorise or remove my sisters computer that is now linked?
Any ideas? When i access Store the only option is to deauthorise the computer I am on now. There is no option to remove the 2nd computer that is my sisters.

Very simple....go to itunes store,  on the top right click on your account.  It will ask for your password, then show you a screen where it will have your address on top.  Look 1/2 the way down on the right...it says deauthorize all...click that and then just go back in to your computer and reauthorize your own computer...
