  • Replace content on used iPod with mine?

My iPod touch 2G recently died and I got my sister's old iPod, also a 2G. How do I go about wiping it and replacing her content with mine? Do I "erase all settings and content", then sync to my iTunes like normal?  If I just sync like normal, will ALL of my data from my old iPod still be there, or just program-inherent data? Can I/should I replace with backup data?
    Thanks!

Connect her iPod to your computer and restore her iPod from the backup of our iPod.

  • Charging 30gig iPod with mini AC adapter

My daughter purchased a 30gig iPod video to replace her iPod mini. Can she use the ac adapter that came with the mini to charge her new iPod? The connections fit physically but we don't want to harm anything electrically.
    Thanks.

did the ipod mini come with a wall charger?

  • Charge iPod with the USB cable

When I connect my iPod to a computer whithout iTunes installed, I get a new drive in windows. But on my iPod I get symbol in the display that says that I should not remove the cable before I disconnect the iPod in windows.
In this case the iPod charge until I disconnect the iPod in windows.
When I use iPod with my computer where iTunes is installed, I can press the Eject iPod button in iTunes and the iPod still get power from the USB cable, and the iPod still charge.
Is there any software so can do the same job as in the iTunes for eject iPod? Beacuse then I can charge the iPod with only the usb cable and still listen to the music.

  • IPod with dock connector is not getting charged with car charger and iTrip

My iPod from 2003 with dock connector is not getting charged in my car by using the griffin iTrip with USB car charger. iTrip works, but not the charger. Maybe there´s not enough power output from the car charger? Only 5.0V with 400mA are coming out. iPod needs more? 12V with 1.0A?
Does somebody have information about that problem for me?

Has Apple dropped support for older model iPods?
Nope. Support is still there, even back to the original 1G iPod with the wheel that actually turns. I have a 3G iPod, and it syncs just fine. There have not been any software updates for years, but the old software still works fine with the latest iTunes.
You have to use FireWire, which you seem to be doing.
Try putting it into Disk Mode first, then connect it.

Does the iPod currently play music as it should?
Do you have another docking cable (FireWire) that you can try? FireWire connectors often get worn and they no longer work, although the power connection can continue to work.
Did you try the other FireWire port in the iMac?

  • Charging a US iPod with UK Charger

Would it be possible to use a UK or European iPod Mini charger to refill the battery on my iPod (US) Mini?

Correction to Jeff's post. If the charger is a universal charger, like the original Apple sold charger, then his post is correct. However, if your charger is a third party charger, you have to check the specs on it to see what the input is rated for. Some may be universal but other may be specifically designed (to cut costs) to only take UK voltages.

Where can i buy a new charger for my ipod with click wheel, the old had burnt.tnk.i need it urgent.tnk

By "charger," do you mean a USB power adapter that plugs into the wall outlet (used to "charge" the iPod), or are you asking about the USB docking cable that connect the iPod to the computer?

  • Will one day "ipod with dock connector" be able to be charged by USB cable?

    Hi,
this question has just popped into my mind
a moment ago. it might be very useful if
one day they'll grant us to be able to do that.
but if this request seemed to be too far
from hardware capability, i'd stop thinking
    about it.
could anyone give me a clue? any support teams?
    Thanks,
p/s hope i'd called my ipod right, it's the
one with four buttons outside the wheel, and
it is not a clickwheel one. "ipod with dock
connector" right? :] thank you again

    Hi Kenekeu
I just wanted to chime in and bump this thread. Although I've posted here several times about this exact problem, with no solution found yet, and no response from Apple. I tried rebooting into windows (via bootcamp) and reformatting my ipod from there. However when I downloaded the older version of the ipod updater, i was told that it was expired and a newer version was available (sigh). So I now have a windows formatted ipod that still won't connect via firewire.
I am still able to mount and transfer songs via USB in mac OSX. Luckily I had one of those dual usb/firewire cables, which plugs into the plug charger via firewire, and into the computer via USB at the same time, so my ipod doesn't lose charge.
Hopefully there'll be a fix soon, because this is really frustrating. I've had this ipod for a couple years, and was always proud that it lasted this long... and now this.

  • Charging iPod With Wall Adaptor + Converter?

    Hello,
I am going to Europe in a couple weeks, and I was wondering if I will be able to charge my iPod with the wall adaptor and a converter (since their wall outlets are different than ours in the U.S.) without any problems. Will this work?
    Thanks.

Ya to clarify Chris's post a bit, if the adapter says it takes a wide range from the low 100's of volts into the lowish-mid 200s of volts (e.g. 100-250, 120-240, etc.) then you have a univeral adapter that will take "world" voltages. In Europe they use 240V. here in the USA we use 120V.
Now if for some reason you have an adapter that only lists US voltages (e.g. 120V, 110-130V, etc.) in that case a simple adapter will NOT work and trying to use one will just destroy your charger. In that case you need either a voltage converter to step down the 240V European voltage to 120V USA voltage or just purchase a univeral charger.

  • Charging 80 GB iPod with old accessoire

    Hello,
Can I charge my 80 GB iPod with the firewire-adaptor I got with an old generation 3 iPod with 15 GB?

Firewire and USB do indeed use different voltage levels, but the Firewire and USB power are on separate pins on the iPod's dock connector. So the +5V USB charging voltage goes to one pin while the Firewire voltage (+12V or higher I think) goes in through another pin. So everything is all safe using old Firewire connection devices to charge new iPods.

  • Will Apple replace an iPod with broken charging port

My daughter has had her iPod for a year will Apple Repair or replace an iPod with broken charging port.

If still under warranty, Apple frequently says the damage is caused by operator error and would only be covered by an Applecare+ extended warranty.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs They do not fix yours.

  • Will charging my iPod with a 9 Volt battery damage it?

I made one of those Altoids Mint Tin chargers. It runs on a 9V battery. If I charge my iPod with it, will it damage my iPod? If it can damage it, what would it do?

The voltage required to charge an iPod is the standard USB voltage of 5 volts. Since the device you have built is effectively homemade, and we have no way of knowing which circuit design you have used, you need to decide whether you have built it to provide 5 volts out, even though it has 9 volts going in. If it sends 9 volts into the iPod, that may damage the iPod. The polarity of the supply needs to be correct as well - in other words, the positive and negative need to be the correct way round, otherwise you may damage the iPod.
The second thing that your charger needs to be able to do is deliver the voltage at the correct rate (I believe it's 500mA. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong). In this case, if it doesn't deliver enough mA, then once again, it may not (or more likely, will not) charge the iPod.

    Make your iPod unusable.
Oh! and by the way, if you did damage an iPod as a result of stuffing 9 volts into it, that would void any remaining warranty on it.

  • Bose Soundock - No sound with Mini Ipod

Greetings, purchased Bose SoundDock yesterday. I have two ipods - a Mini and a Nano. The nano works well in the SoundDock, but the Mini will not -- even though it plays fine with earphone headset. It shows that it is running and charging but no sound. I have tried all troubleshooting suggestions in the manual. When the nano is connected to the Soundock the remote works well. When the mini is conncected, only the pause/start button and the fast reverse/fast forward buttons work. The Off and Volume buttons do not, yet they work fine with the nano. The mini is model M9804LL and is running version 1:41. Help.

I know this may sound stupid but I know my ipod mini will not work properly when I have a "jacket" on the ipod and try to place it in the sound dock. It does not seat properly. So just make sure that the Mini is place and seated properly. Hope it works

  • Swapping Power Adapters while using mini iPod with Belkin TuneFM

I recently purchased the Belkin TuneFM so that I could listen to my iPod through any FM radio. The TuneFM comes with a car charger so that I can charge my iPod while I am driving, however when I am at home I cannot use the normal usb cable because the TuneFM attaches on the bottom of the iPod where you would normally attach the USB cable.
    Here is what I have:
    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=257339
My question is that I noticed that my Motorola Phone Charger has the same size plug as the TuneFM car charger, however the car charger can only be used in the car, and my phone charger can connect to a normal outlet. Will I damage my iPod if I use my phone charger to charge my iPod with the TuneFM attached or should it be ok?
I want to think it will be ok, because my phone charges normally in my car and in the house, so wouldn't the iPod work similarly? I also plugged it in momentarily and the iPod did show it as charging, but I didn't want to risk it so I immediately took it off. Thanks.
Toshiba Satellite Notebook Windows XP Pro

This is getting more and more irritating to me, the more I read about it.
I just bought the new Yamaha docking jack for the input to my brand new current technology RVX3800 receiver. This will play the iPhone but not charge, just like all the other recently purchased units, like my $350 Griffin Evolve wireless unit.
If the plug fits, we can't quit... Sorry a poor pun intended.
If the plug fits the bottom of the iPhone, it must have all the same wiring other than the old firewire points are not used. How hard would it have been to make the change as they did on the new iPods and the iPhone to the USB charging, but crossover the old non used points to the inboard USB points????
This would have allow dual compatibility at least until maybe the next generation of "i" stuff. Why even keep the same plug if the function is not doing what we need?
I have a USB power adapter at work and it has the PC plug that plugs into the white 120v adapter on the end and it does not work either.
The whole idea of the "i" family is to be compatible with one another throughout the product line. This is truly a VERY BIG mistake made by Apple.
I'm sorry for ranting on and on about this but it's really got me worked up.
Thanks for all the great input on this issue, I appreciate it very much.
