Charge using AC/DC adapter?

I have a new 30 GB video IPOD. I travel a lot and want to be able to charge while in transit. I bought a car adapter today specifically for IPOD. i can use the car adapter both in auto and on some aircraft. My question: I have an old AC/DC adapter and would like to know if it's possible to use it in conjunction with the audo adapter.
The adapter has a wall plug and is marked as follows: INPUT 100-240 vac; Frequency 50-60 Hz; OUTPUT 12VDC, 0.5A. I'd like to use something to charge the IPOD in a hotel room. I saw the price of the USP/plug charger on APPLE site and thought it was outrageously priced. So, will this gizmo work? Any other alternatives?
I appreciate your responses! Thank you.

  • IPad won't charge using 10W Power Adapter

    The subject states it all.
My iPad displays the words "Not Charging" besides the battery bar even when charged by the 10W power adapter that came along with the iPad.
Used the same power adapter to charge my iPhone and there was no problem.
Charged the same iPad using the same 10W power adapter a few times before and there were no issues either.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your suggestions.
I thought that my USB cable was faulty too at first. But after changing the USB cable and playing around with a few power adapters which did charge by iPhone, I guess the probability that the USB cables are faulty or that the problem lies with the power adapter seems rather low.
    Changing power sockets didn't help.
By elimination, I suppose the only problem there can be should be with the iPad. My only concern is that it happened so sudden without me doing anything to the iPad (using it normally etc.)and how can I be sure it doesn't happen again in the future.
    Pretty annoying.
*If I might add, plugging it in to the computer does not induce a response from iTunes (no detection).

  • After updating to iOS7, i can't play youtube songs while the phone is charging using car usb adapter

I have a iphone 4S and updated to iOS7. After update i am not able to play songs in my car using youtube when the phone was plugged into usb power. The way i play youtube songs (that's how i listen to songs in the car) from my iphone is, i have AUX cable that connects the iphone to AUX port in my car music system. When the phone is put into chaging mode using the USB cable in my car, it start assuming i am connected to apple TV and everything goes blank. If taken out of charging it works as expected.
Now how it worked befoe iOS7? Before everytime i put the phone into charging in the car in-built USB port, after a few minutes a message pops up in the phone "This accessory is not supported ..." I press "OK" and after that playing songs from youtube is business as usual. If i connect the AUX cable before i see this pops up message and start playing songs, it assumes connecting to apple tv and songs would never play.
With iOS7, i waited 2 hours and still have not seen the pop up message "This accessory is not supported ..." and playing using AUX cable all the aasuming connected to apple TV. Can some one please help to resolve the issue ??
    Thanks.

wooh-ho ! I have upgraded iOS 7.0.3 yesteray, plugged the device to my car USB charger while going home from work... guess what to my surprise it popped up the message "This accessory is not supported ..." in a few minutes exactly as it used to be before iOS7. However i did not play any online music since connection was poort is disrupted in my area yesterday. I am sure it will play music while on charge. Many thanks to apple engineering team. They definitely read the forum and picked my issue to address. Great job. Kudos !
I was almost thought of dropping the phone since it became useless in the car i drive. Now maybe i will upgrade to 5S in couple weeks!

  • IPad won't charge using power adapter but will charge via USB

I have an iPad 1 that recently stopped charging using the power adapter. "Broken power adapter or cable" I thought and reached for a spare that I have. That didn't work either. The original power adapter however DID charge another iPad without any problems, so the problem cannot be with the adapter or cable.
Now this is the wierd bit - using the original cable plugged into my laptop I get the usual "Not charging" message but the iPad DOES charge slowly this way.
I rebooted the iPad, restarted it in recovery mode and restored the firmware, cleaned out the 30-pin connector port - all those useful bits of advice that you find on the internet but all to no avail. The iPad just will not charge using any of the many  original Apple iPad charger sthat I have been able to get my hands on but will only charge on an underpowered USB port!
The 30-pin connector must work otherwise it wouldn't charge via USB. Can there be some kind of wierd internal hardware defect that might cause such behavior?
I fear that if I take a 3 year old iPad to the Apple Store they might just give me their best smile and show me the latest iPads but this old iPad works fine otherwise and I don't really want to replace it.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • If you are traveling in Europe, do you need both an adapter AND a voltage regulator to charge the IPad2 and the iphone? Or, the reverse, will it hurt either if I use both the adapter AND the voltage convertor?

If you are traveling in Europe, do you need both an adapter AND a voltage convertoro charge the IPad2 and the iphone? Or, the reverse, will it hurt either if I use both the adapter AND the voltage convertor?

You may only need adapters for the different kind of sockets, depending of the country you want to travel. A voltage converter is not needed.
The Apple power units are multi voltage devices, supporting a range from 110 V to 240 V. as you can see on the labels. O.K. for most of the labels you need a magnifier, but its on them.

  • Can I safely charge my iPad 3 in Europe without a converter, using only an adapter

Can I safely charge my iPad 3 in Portugal and Spain without a converter, using only an adapter?

Yes.  Look closely at the labeling on the charger... the voltages/frequencies are worldwide compatible.  You only need a plug adapter.

  • How smart is my mac? can use the AC adapter as a main power source and not charge the battery when its fully charged?

does my mac use the AC adapter as the power source when its plugged in and the battery is full? is it smart to enough to split?

The charging circuit charges until the battery reaches 100%, then shuts down the charging and goes to powering mode.  When the battery charge trickles down to 93-95% the charging circuit starts again and tops up the battery.  Will continue to operate like that if you leave it plugged in.  Keeping it plugged in does not harm the battery or risk overcharging.

You can use the A1102 charger to charge the iphone 5 as long as you have the lightning adapter.  I just got off the phone with an apple tech, and you can use the A1102 charger to charge the Iphone 5.

  • OK to use iPod Power Adapter to charge iPhone?

At the Apple Store, they told me that I could use a power adapter and cable for an iPod with my iPhone. Seems to work fine, charges the battery fine. But I notice that in the tiny print on the side of the iPod power adapter it says, "Output 12V -- .67A". The print on the side of the adapter that came with the iPhone says "Output 5V -- 1A".
Wouldn't want to fry my phone battery with those extra volts.

It's not $29.99 + $19.99. They include with the iPhone both a dock/charger and a power adapter/wall plug charger. But only one cable between either of them and your iPhone. So, if you have a computer in one room and you charge your phone overnight in another room, you need another cable.
One solution is to to use some cable you already have, that fits, such as I did once, from an iPod 2 or 3 years old. But I had to use the power adapter that came with that cable/iPod, since the USB cable end was different. It said output: 12V. the iphone power adapter said output: 5V.
So, although the cable fit and the iPhone charged seemingly fine, I was not comfortable charging my $600 iphone with a 12v charger when the one that came with it was a 5v charger. I paid just $19.99 for a duplicate cable to the one that came with the iPhone, used the 5v power adapter that also came with it. Just in case. The apple guy at the "genius bar" agreed: it "ought to work" but, yeah...it's disconcerting...
So, that's the story. I now have a dock on my iMac and a power-adapter from the wall in my bedroom. Both supplied with the iPhone. Both using identicl cables.
What I would like to know, from some tech person, is YEA or NAY. The 5v and 12v iphone and ipod adapters are interchangeable OR they are not and WHY. Otherwise, we are all just speculating.

  • Using External AC adapter to charge NE

    Hi,
I have a Creative NEEON 2 Player. When ever I travel I do not have access to Laptop or PC. I have an AC adapter?which came with my previous MP3 player. It has +5V 3.0A which perfectly fit in the Creative USB socket. Can I use this AC adapter to charge? Thanks

Even if you use an a/c adaptor you still need the usb cable to connect it to the iPod. The very same cable you use to connect to the computer.
A firewire cable is something completely different, and although the 5th gen iPod will charge via a firewire cable they are not supplied with the iPod (because the iPod won't accept data transfer via firewire).
When reading about the iPod battery, you should remember that there is an awful lot of nonsense said. I've never found any difference whatsoever either charging via a mains adaptor or via a computer.

  • Using the magsafe adapter

Hi everyone, I am loving my new Macbook Air. It is truly a wonderful computer. Anyway, I noticed that the power adapter that came with the computer is considerably smaller compared to other macbook models. This weekend, I forgot my power adapter at work. Does it matter if I use another power adapter which is a different size, or do I have to use the one that came with the Macbook Air?

    Hi,
You can use any Apple power adapter for the macbook pro range to charge the macbook air, since the charger will scale down the power supplied to the air.
I've been using an old 15 inch macbook pro charger with my air for the last 2 months without any problem.
