Charged $299 for water damage, from an occassional rain drop in top charging port

I have been charged $299 for water damage to my motorola Droid. The water is from an occassional rain drop coming in the top charging port. I contend that is a design flaw. Anybody else run into this?

Of course it is a design flaw.  That is why I have a Casio Commando. My first smartphone was a Verizon blackberry and it was the worst for water damage...it got a foggy screen after being through a rainstorm inside a water resistant bicycle handlebar bag.  No phone should suffer damage from casual contact with water, folks.  People are 70% water after all.  You could put some of these in your pocket, go jogging, and ruin the phone...sort of defeats the purpose of the phone don't you think?
Good to see that Verizon was so reasonable about repairing it, don't you think?

My 1-year ipod nano locked up and would not start overnight. The on/off button will not work and stopped holding charge. No water damage, no fall, nothing unusual. I restored it (twice) but it will still not hold charge and on/off does not work. I tried to restore it again and charged it in three different locations with different cables. etc but nothing. Suggestions?

    - After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod?  If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
    - If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • MacBook Pro Retina, left in bag in the rain. Can I check for water damage?

    Hey all,
Today, while my laptop was in its sleeve in my bag, it started to rain quite heavily. My bag was exposed to the rain for maybe 15-25 minutes and the contents of my bag weren't too wet, however I noticed that there was a late patch of water on the corner of my sleeve. My MacBook Pro was in sleep and the lid was closed but after inspecting my MacBook Pro I found water to have been wedged between my mac and my plastic case I have on it on both the top and bottom as well as some on the black hinge connecting the body to the display and very little on the display side itself. My MacBook Pro woke from sleep fine but I switched it off anyway.
After drying drying my laptop and using a hair dryer to dry within the ports and vents in case , it is now currently drying. I don't want to switch it on in case there is water damage and it might short circuit.
My question is, is there a way I can check for water damage and what should I do now before I switch it on?

Did you take off the bottom panel?  If not do so.
Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them inspect it.  The evaluation will be FREE and they are in the best position to attack the issue.
    Ciao.

  • My sis just got her iPhone 4 , and was told that it has been kept for almost a year. And is now charging it for about 5 hours. Still it is only 7 % charged. What seems to be the problem?

Help! My sister just got her iPhone 4. She was told that it was kept for almost a year. She has been charging it for almost 6 hours! Still, it is only 7% charged. Is it normal? How long will it take to charged it fully??? Thanks!

Not sure what "being kept" means. If it means it was new in the box and not used for a year then the battery is probably near dead as lithium ion batteries need excercise (a full charge cycle per month). If this is what you mean she will need to put a new battery in it.

  • HT1937 Hi, I have an iphone 4 at moment and my contract with tesco ends in Decembe, although after i ight out it stopped working, there is no water damage and its no cracked. I have charging, plugging it into my laptop but its doesnt want to come on?

Hi, i currently have an iphone 4 and my contract ends with Tesco in December. Atfer i night out my phone stopped working and now doesnt turn on ive tried everything. It has no water damage and no cracks and dont know where to take it or what to do. Thanks Charlotte

    Hello Charlotte,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • If ur iphone 4s is covered under warranty is it covered for water damage

is this covered water damage if phone has warranty

Yes the AppleCare+ covers two incidents of accidental damage. But it has to be purchased with in 30 days from Date of purchase. So unless you have insurance from your carrier. You will have to pay a OOW repair cost.

  • IPhone 5C Replacement Fees for Water Damage

If I have an iPhone 5C that does not have AppleCare+ coverage and therefore does not have water damage coverage and I damage it via liquid contact, what are the fees to replace the phone with a new one?

Be advised you will get back the same as you turn in - same color, same GB,
same locked/unlocked status. Even thought the charge is the same, you cannot
change iPhone models or GB in the iPhone.

  • Water damage from 6 months ago

I have a macbook pro that was water damaged over 6 months ago and it now boots but trackpad click doesnt work, number keys, "z" key and computer shuts off after 20 minutes. any suggestions on what to do? will apple be able to repair this?

The Apple technicians are in the best position to answer your question definitively.  They have the diagnostic tolls at their disposal and we on this forum can give guesses and opinions, not facts.
Please understand that once liquid has penetrated a MBP, it becomes a crap shoot as far as it reliability is concerned.  There may be corrosion that will eventually cause serious functional problems.  But it may be the case that it will survive a normal 'life span'.
Book a genius bar appointment and see what they have to say.
    Ciao.

I think you are leaving a LOT out of this message. That bill from 20 yrs ago probably was only for 1 line, included NO minutes(you probably paid at least $0.30/minute for calling maybe more plus long distance) OR data. With you current bill of almost $200, it looks as if you have multiple lines, you DO have minutes, long distance is included, and you have 3G or 4G data(neither of which were available 20 years ago). You can't really compare your bill of $20 to your current bill. They are not the same thing.
If you want to make a comparison, 1 individual line(which includes 450 minutes AND long distance) will run you $39.99/month. This same line with 450 minutes(from 20 years ago) would have run you $20(line charge) + $135 for calling minutes + any long distance you may have had.
You can't compare smartphones such as BB, Android, iPhone, etc... because THEY WERE NOT AVAILABLE. The oldest technology, BB, wasn't available until 13 years ago!

  • Ipod won't charge due to water damage?

Unfortunately, I dropped my Ipod in the sink and as soon as I can, I wiped all the water off and dried it.
    Good news is, It works.
But Its having problems with the speakers and the charging (more importantly, the charging)
I removed any debris inside the charging port but it still won't charge, it does charge IF I push the charging cable really hard into the port but obviously I wouldn't be doing that for a long period of time and it might damage the port (even further)
So what do you guys think?
    Thanks

Make an appointment at the genius bar. It will need to be replaced. And STOP trying to use it. It's a fire hazard now.

  • Out of Warranty replacement for water damaged iPhone 4s.

I left it in rice, didn't work. And so I want apple to give me a replacement but I am out of the warranty. How much would it be for a replacement, and how do I go about getting the replacement?

  • Out of warranty replacement for water damaged iphone??

I went to the beach and forgot my iphone was in my pocket. I remembered it was in my pocket when the water reached my pocket. It totally dead now. It's a black 16 gb iphone 4.
I was wondering if apple can replace my iphone with a refurbished white iphone 4s instead of an iphone 4 for 200 dollars or are they obligated to give me the same model iphone?
My mom canceled my contract with att because they were charging too much --- if that matters

The replacement is exact like for like .
If you cannot turn iPhone on no you cannot
unless you were using iCloud to back up which sounds unlikely

  • Any hope for water damaged iPod?

The iPod received a sprinkle of water and worked fine for several hours after.  Then I could no longer turn it on....I am assuming it is the water.  Any other explanation possible?

Place the iPod is a sealed container with a desiccant like uncooked rice for a week. Periodically change the rice.
    If it does not work
Unless you purchased the optional AppleCare+ extended warranty
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

My iPod touch 2nd generation 8BG fell into water a month ago and doesn't turn on at all, sometimes a grey screen appears but thats all. Does apple still repair it and I was wondering how much it would cost, thank you.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
