Charged for a song I didn't choose to download

Last night I chose to buy and download three albums from the itunes store by a band called Machine Head. I already had another of their albums which is in my library uploaded from a CD I bought in the mid 90's.
I also chose to buy and download a few individual songs from other artists in no way related to Machine Head and which were not, at any time, on an itunes page at the same time as any Machine Head songs.
I purchased the three Machine Head albums separately from their separate album pages on the store and had three pop up windows, one for each album, asking me to continue.
When I looked at my invoice email this morning an additional individual Machine Head song was shown as being pruchased for 99p. This track is already in my library as it was on the CD I uploaded threeish years ago and is not on any of the three Machine Head albums I downloaded last night, nor was it on any of the album pages for it to be accidentally included.
As I didn't purchase any Machine Head albums from anywhere other than each specific album page on which this additonal song is not available, how on earth has it been downloaded (without appearing on a pop up window) and how do I get the 99p refunded?

It's interesting, it shouldn't have made an error like that, but getting any sort of "refund" from iTunes is really tedious and it's not always possible, especially if the amount of money lost is so small. I mean, it's one song, so I don't see what the big deal is. Sure, it may have been charged to your account unintentionally, but it's one song.
You sure that it was not on any of the albums you purchased or in anything else, but it was on the list of things you had purchased? It's easy to misread something, so go over it again.

....... is there a way for me to get my old music library (which was controlled by my dad's apple ID) onto my new mac, but from that point on, start using my own apple ID for purchases?........
Yes, once the content is in iTunes on your computer, just click it to play and authorise your computer to play it by entering your Dad's ID and password.
Log into your own account and start purchasing your own content which will then be added to the existing content.

  • HT1399 I downloaded and was charged for a song on ITunes store but it isn't on my playlist.

I downloaded a song from the I-tunes store and was charged for it.  It isn't on my playlist now.  Something about the playtime ran out or something like that.  Can I just cancel the song purchase and get reimbursed for the .99 cents that I was charged for the song?

You may want to contact Apple directly by phone to report the issue.

It's possible that the message you got was to update the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) firmware...and that something might have gone wrong during the upgrade.
Let's start by performing a "factory default" reset on the AX to get it back to it's original "out-of-the-box" condition.
Then, let's set it up to work with your cable modem...
AirPort Express Base Station Setup (AX) w/High-Speed Cable Modem
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling (optional)
    - Power-off the Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
    Setup the AX
With the network components powered down, set up the AX, using the AirPort Admin Utility, either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Create a closed network (unchecked)
    - Wireless Security: Not enabled
    - Channel: Automatic
    - Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: Ethernet
    - Configure: Using DHCP
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (checked)
    - Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
Do not, at this point, set up any security (i.e., WEP/WPA encryption, closed network, etc.) to first make sure the AX is operating properly. Try to access the Internet wirelessly with your MacBook. If you're successful, go ahead and add any security features you wish.

  • What do I get charged for buying songs

I see the price of a song, but do I get charged for something else? What is the process buying a song?

The price you will be charged will be what is listed against it - unless you are in the US in which case you need to add on your state's sales tax. There are no other charges.
But each time that you add or change the credit card details on your account then you might see a small temporary store holding charge applied to it to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - but that is temporary, it should disappear off your account within a few days or so.
    Store holding charge : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3702
To buy a song just click on its price, and if you are not already logged into your iTunes account then you will be prompted to do so, otherwise you will just be asked for your password - if you make another purchase within 15 minutes of entering your password then you won't be asked to re-enter it. The song will then download into the Music section of your iTunes library

  • Was i charged for some songs?

I loaded some cd's onto itunes then synced my daughters ipod with those songs and all the songs on the store display page ...about 10 songs were loaded also did they charge me for them or are they samples??? if I was charged who do I call to get them removed?? thanks for any help

Sorry, but what do you mean by "all the songs on the store display page"? What "display page" are you referring to?
You can see what items you purchased from the iTunes Store by signing into your account and going to the Purchase History. Unless an item on the iTunes Store was specifically marked as being free or was a Podcast, you would have been charged for any item you downloaded. For those items there will generally be no refunds. But if you did not deliberately purchase these items but were charged for them anyway, you can try contacting the iTunes Store via their web form and asking if there's anything they can do for you:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
For the future, you may want to turn on the Shopping Cart (iTunes preferences -> Store ) so that it's more difficult to purchase something inadvertently.

  • Double data charges for one song!

I'm getting charged for the data on the initial download of a song from iTunes to my PC and then again when I have to download the song from the "cloud" on my iPhone!

I think it was a matter of trying to do it in the car.  I just downloaded one sitting here next to the PC with the wifi on and the cellular data off.  I'll have to remember that.  It ticks me off because I mistakenly did the upgrade to my iPhone and now a bunch of my songs, most that I had even played before, suddenly got put in the "cloud," requiring redownloading.  Frustrating.

  • Charged for an upgrade I didn't fully download and don't need

I started to download the iPhone 3.1.1 upgrade for my iTouch and realized that if I installed it, it wouldn't really give me anything I need more than I have now and I would lose everything already on my iTouch (I just don't want to reload everything as my wife and I have several iPods and several libraries and just finally got everything set the way I want it).
I stopped the download before it completed but was charged for it anyway. Granted, it's only $5 but I never installed it or even fully downloaded it. Can I get my money back? If not, how do I complete downloading it and can I 'save' it for later use w/o installing it on my iTouch right now?

It's doubtful that you can get your money refunded since Apple's terms clearly state that all sales are final. But you can ask.
For completing the download, look under the Store menu in iTunes for the "Check for available downloads" command and run that. You should find the update there to be downloaded. Once downloaded you should have the option of whether or not you want to update your iPod at this time. Just FYI, you should note that a number of iPod touch applications require the 3.x version of the OS, so you may at some point indeed want that update.
If the download won't complete, or if you want to try for a cancellation and refund, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department through the form you'll find by selecting the most applicable section of their Support page and explain the problem to them.
    Regards.
