Charged MBP doesn't turn on & charger is not lit up either

Hi all,
thanks first of all to everyone who can possibly help me, it regards my shiny new December 2012 MBP 15'' retina.
Here's the situation:
- I unplugged my MBP
- Then put it to sleep mode by closing it (then unplugged the mouse)
- When I wanted to turn it on 2 hours later, it didn't turn on anymore
- plugged it into the charger, seeing the green light fainting until it was gone
- checked it with my other charger, which wasn't working either
- tried out some key combinations
- but the MBP is COMPLETELY DEAD
Hope that anyone can give advice soon, because I need this device for work and I have work related stuff on the hard drive which makes it even more sad that a 2,5 grant expensive laptop just dies.
THANKS A MILLION
Joey

Thanks DLMiller,
I am not sure how deep you are in this Apple stuff, but would you think that can be related to the recent software update as this guy has exactly the same problem after the update.
Moreover, do you think they can resolve it right there, because I am under some time pressure? It seems like a software related issue to me, but I can be totally wrong, but in case of a software problem, do they generally have the equipment to dig into it?
I will be in the Bay Area next weekend, would it be worth to pop by in Cupertino?

  • T61 doesn't turn on after BIOS upgrade! PLEASE HELP!

    Hi all,
I just reinstalled XP on my 4 months old T61 and installed Lenovo's System Update thing. There was an BIOS update option there, so I selected it. It downloaded it and then done the upgrade - there were no errors, everything was smooth. All was fine. At least it looked that way. I rebooted it. It hanged on the boot screen (at POST). So I tried to reboot it or turn it off - there was no way to do it - the keyboard was not responding, tried pressing the power button for like a minute, but nothing. It was frozen on the bootscreen logo. So I removed the power plug and then the battery to cut the power and turn it off.
I inserted the battery and the power plug back... and... IT DOESN'T TURN ON ANYMORE. Not only it will not respond to me clicking the power button, but also the light on the backside of the lid doesn't light up when I plug in the power supply. What the hell happened? What should I do?
I tried removing the RAM and replacing it, cause I had a spare stick, but, as I thought it didn't do anything.
Is it possible that the power circuit inside T61 was somehow damaged when I removed the battery when the computer was running?
    Some more info:
The battery was fully charged when flashing, I was on the AC and the BIOS version was selected automatically via Lenovo System Update.
I know how to flash BIOSes, I did it like a hundred times in my life already, even hex-hacked one on a very old PC. Never had any problems.
This is the BIOS I upgraded to:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67988
    My T61's model is: 6465-CTO
OMG I'm so desperate right now.
Please HELP! I don't know what should I do!
And to top it off, I don't know if my warranty is going to be any good in Poland (see thread: http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_General&thread.id=88 )
    Best regards,
    NIXin

    It is disturbing - Yes.
However, I have lost count of the number of BIOS or ECC updates I have made with System Update and have never ever had something go wrong. Obviously those that experience a problem are going to look for help and post in forums, it would be interesting to know how many have never had a problem?? They have no reason to post.
You wrote; "bricks their Txx about once a week", how many ThinkPads are sold per week? It is guaranteed to be an absolute nightmare for the owner, quite understandably, but if I was paranoid I wouldn't drive my car to work - I might have an accident.

  • Macbook Pro, charger plugged in but NOT lit up and NOT charging

I have my MacBook Pro plugged in to the charger but the green light on the charger is NOT lit up and the battery indicator states "Not Charging."  Any ideas/suggestions?

Check the connections both at the MBP and the charger for dirt, debris and discoloration.  The pins in the charger connection should move freely.
    Wall outlet live?
Test the charger on another Mac.  Try a functional charger on your MBP.
    Try a SMC reset:

Some basics please, what vintage is your MBP, have you plugged anything else into the wall socket to verify that it is live? which light doesn't turn on, the charger or the MBP?
Hold the power button down for 15 seconds, wait for 2 then press it normally and see te MBP it turns on

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. I suspect a hardware problem  due to the hotness. If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. If you have an iPod backup you can restore another iPod, iPhone or iPad from the backup to get the data that was in the backup

  • My Macbook Pro Retina doesn't turn on but charger led works

I haven't used my mac for a month but it use to work perfectly fine. I tried to use it but it wouldn't turn on. When i plug the magsafe connecter the led goes orange. But when i press the power button it doesn't turn on. i tried smc reset using left shift, control and option (and power button) while charging and not charging but it doesn't work. Please help.

IF the battery was completely discharged, give it some time on the charger before trying to start up.  The amber LED means it is charging, give it an hour or so before trying again.

Please help me.. Phone doesn't turn on. And keeps on blinking when connected to charger.. The logo keeps coming up and then vanishes..

Similar problem here. Iphone 5 32gb met iOS 8.1.2 keeps blinking apple logo when connected to the charger but doesn't start up. iTunes doesn't recognise it, but i managed to get it into recovery mode. But sadly the update stops with an unknown error 2001. Changing cables, ports or even laptops doesn't help. DFU mode gives similar results.
Any suggestions where to go from here?

Try a #1 SMC Reset and see the Apple links, if that doesn't work make a appointment for a evaluation.

  • SBH20 doesn't turn on - solid purple light on charge

    Hi,
I've had my sbh20 for about 6 weeks now,  and up until now I've been quite pleased with it.  However,  it's stopped working and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this particular fault?
Basically,  it doesn't turn on. Flicking the switch to on does nothing,  no light,  no noise /beep through headphones. Thinking it was possibly out of charge I plugged my usb charger in. The light came on,  solid purple! Strange I thought. I left it on charge overnight and in the morning the light was still solid purple. When switching it 'on',  the light goes out completely,  and still no function.
I have tried the reset as advised in the manual. The light briefly goes from purple,  to Blue and then back to people. End effect,  no change.
    Is this a repair jobbie?
    Thanks.

Sorry to hear this but you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care and have your device inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
