Charger "Charred" my mac book pro.... ?

Alright, for a wile now I have been having problems with my charger.
-Its very "sensitive" and does awkward things like light up green when plugged into the computer but wont be sustaining the power.
Sometimes I have to tinker with it to charge, and when it does, I hear a small little electronic sound coming from the laptop.
The sound isn't a burning or fizzle sound, it sounds like tiny dry gears that need oiling...
Anyway's, Thinking my charger was crap, I used my wife's new one (witch is the older square version)
-but that particular charger will only "sustain" the power, and Ill be lucky if it goes into charging mode, when it does, its not as sensitive as my charger, and seems to stay charging once it lights up orange.
-I also tried my charger on my wife's computer, and mine seems to charge hers ok... so I believe there is something wrong with my laptop.
Then Iike a genius, I decided to "look" at may charger contacts, and I found this:
Seriously guys... what the **** is this?
I realized now that this particular charger has been burning my laptop or something, and thats what the noises have been.
But It does not do this to my wifes laptop,
and her charger doesnt burn mine, the noises only happen with my charger.
*Also, the small noises only happen when it is in charging mode*
-What could have caused this?
-Has this happened to anyone before, and what did you have to do?
-Any tips to try besides bringing it in for repairs?

I just found it very interesting and wanted to know more about what causes these problems
I have explained that to you.
if there are any alternatives I can take to continue playing games.
The alternatives would be not to continue doing what you have been doing unless there was already something defective. But there is no way to know what that would be until it's taken in for repair. Something I have iterated one or two times.
I have no clue why but it seems that I have upset or offended you In some way and I didnt intend to do that man.
I'm not upset or offended. I just don't see the point of continued discussion since it's obvious what needs to be done. That's been presented to you. Your questions have been answered. But it seems you want to persist despite the lack of a reason to do so. I don't see the benefit of doing that. To me it would seem as though your problem has been solved, and your further questions answered.

  • Battery will not charge on my Mac Book Pro.

I recently (as in, a few months ago) replaced the battery on my Mac Book Pro, because I had overcharged my previous one into oblivion. Since I replaced the battery, however, the computer has been working fine - until today, anyways. The computer will not work without being plugged into the charger, and when it's on, it insists that the battery needs replacing, despite having a cylce count in the 80's. In the spirit of full disclosure (and getting help with this issue), I will mention that there is some small damage on one of the corners on the laptop. I don't know how the damage was caused, I just woke up one day and it was there, but I doubt this has any relevance, as the damage is nowhere near the battery. Regardless, any possible solutions would be greatly appreciated, as I would prefer to not replace a (relatively) new battery.

    1. I suppose it wasn't over-charging per se, but instead just that I used it too much while the charger was plugged in and the battery was at full, which can kill your battery.
    2. The damage I described happened unbenkownst to me, therefore, as far as I'm concerned, it was fine one day, and damaged the next.
    3. I realize the damage may have relevance, but said damage would then require a completel overhaul/replacement of the computer, seeing as that would likely mean the damage would be affecting the computer. I am more inclined to believe that the battery is, for some reason, not registering.
If I can't find an answer, I'll simply take it into a store to have it looked at, though obviously I'd prefer to explore simpler solutions, as the closest Apple Store is not close at all.

  • I have a issue with my mac book pro. For some reason it won't stay powered on. I can't get past the apple loading logo. The battery is fully charged so it is not the problem. Can anyone tell me what the problem may be and how can i get it resolved?

  • Does my warranty cover the mac book pro charger?

I got a new Mac Book pro for Christmas and the charger already stopped working. Luckily I had an old one. Anyone know if my warrantly will cover the dead charger? Not trying to spend like 75 bucks on a new one.

The Mac, so they can corroborate the serial no. and confirm coverage. Can check here:  https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
After this experience, consider the benefits of extending the warranty for two more years, post-Xmas, with AppleCare.

  • Can I use an 85 watt charger for my 15" mac book pro

the 15" came with a 60 watt charger - it is okay to use the more powerful charger (that came with a 17" mac book pro) on the smaller laptop?

Here is Apple's official position on use of adapters.

  • How long should the Mac Book pro hold its charge???

How long should the Mac Book pro hold a  battery charge??

For a single use or how long will the battery last until it needs to be replaced?  For single use, it depends on what you are doing when using you mac.  I find that when using mine I get about 6-6 1/2 hours just using it to browse the internet before I need to recharge it.  If it is one of the newer Macbook Pros that claim to have a 7 hour battery life, It can last up to 5 years.  See this article on notebook batteries to get the most out of your battery: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html.  Hope this helps

  • Mac book pro charger

My Mac Book pro charger has broken. The Mac is from the u.k but I am living in South Korea now. Can I buy a charger out here and it will work ok ???

You may purchase an Apple charger anywhere in the world and it will work.  The issue you have to be aware of the the outlet plug type in a given country, thus you may need an appropriate plug adapter.
    Ciao.

  • Mac book pro charger is there a fuse as mine just stopped working?

Just plugged my new mac book pro into the mains and the charger sparked and I assume blew a fuse. Does anyone know where the fuse is? This is a UK computer not US. Thanks

What is the correct fuse raiting for a mac book pro charger? My fuse blew at a practice room and the practice room guy replaced it with one lying around which then blew straight away so I'm thinking (hoping) he swapped it with one with the wrong rating. But now I don't have the original to check the rating!
    Thanks

  • Feeling electric shock while charging Mac book Pro

    Hai everyone!
i just bought a Mac bookPro 15 inch 2.53 Ghz.
i am feeling a mild tingling/ vibrating shock while charging my mac book pro. i can feel the sensation all over the aluminium unibody part- especially while using the Mac book as well as charging it at the same time. is it Earthing/ grounding problem? or is it any voltage problem? or is it any problem with my Mac Book Pro?
    Thanks and Regards

"I bought my laptop from the US, but i am using it in Spain , with the aid of a plug converter (3 pong to 2 European one)...
"1) is this problem i am experiencing due to the plug converter?"
Yes and no. Outside of the US, the AC line voltage is twice as high, and that's why people outside of the US generally experience the "shock". If you use a 3-prong plug adapter inserted in a properly-grounded AC outlet, the problem will be resolved.
"2) I am staying in student resident, and so i doubt that the MBP is not properly grounded.. That would be dangerous, no??"
If you are using a 2-prong prong adapter, your unit is not properly grounded. Using an improperly grounded computer is not dangerous.
"3) Aside from being extremely annoying sensation, is it bad for the laptop??"
    No.
"Because if not, i can always use another keyboard.."
You mean, "if it IS" a problem , you can use another keyboard. Using another keyboard is does not change the grouping scheme of the computer.
"I am not saying whose fault this is, but i only felt this shock with the mac book pro (15 inch).. i owned a power book and a 13 in mac book, and never felt a shock like this before... Could it be because of the placement of the battery on the laptop?"
No, it's because you're using a metal-cased computer, at a high AC input voltage.

  • Mac book pro will not start up.  Charging light is on, but no response from computer.  What happened?

The Mac Book Pro was fine, and then just stopped working.  I connect the power source, and the light is on as if it is charging.  However, when I try to turn the laptop on, nothing happens.  There is no response whatsoever.  Any ideas what happened and what I need to do?

Examine this support article for possible solutions:

If no success, a trip to an Apple store genius bar is the best recourse.
